This is a really great brush. I am no hair expert but for the price I got everything I wanted out of the Denman brush. I bought the medium size brush because I have fine medium length hair. It does a great job at giving my fine hair volume and keeps it shiny and tangle free. I would recommend this brush to anyone with finer hair.

  • Love This Brush 4 Star Rating
I have long, waist-length hair that's straight and fine but I have a lot of body. This brush with the mixed nylon/boar bristles is the answer to post-styling finishing and removal of knots at the ends. It makes my hair smooth, shiny and non-static-y. The nylon bristles reach to my scalp and the bristles don't pull or break my fine hair (especially those delicate grays). I did a lot of research, looking at the various options and I think this brush is a great value.

  • Not So Good For Coarse Hair 2 Star Rating
I've always used whatever cheap drugstore hairbrush that had the cutest color---$3 and $4 hairbrushes that you know you're not going to be keeping for a long time---and after I lost my latest sparkly purple cheapo brush, I decided to invest in a nicer one. In my opinion, dropping anything close to $100 on a hairbrush is nuts, even if you CAN afford it, and this Denman brush has good reviews from a lot of beauty websites and personal makeup/beauty blogs.

This brush simply does not work with my hair. I wish other reviewers had mentioned their ethnicity when reviewing the brush, because depending on your heritage or your genetics, your hair is going to be extremely different from my hair. I'm of Asian descent, and not only are my hairs themselves extremely thick and wiry-wavy (not the typical stick-straight, waterfall Asian hair), but I have a LOT of hair. My head kind of expands when it's humid outside... like a pufferfish.

The Denman brush cannot really penetrate my thick sheet of hair unless I put my other hand underneath the bristles to sandwich my hair as I am brushing it. With cheap drugstore brands, I could just drag the bristles through my hair a few times and then be good to go. With this Denman brush I have to work through my head in sections. It used to take me maybe 10 seconds to brush my hair; now it takes me 2 minutes. Of course 2 minutes is not a lot of time, but when you're rushed it becomes really frustrating.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the little nylon tips are quite sharp against the scalp. I think if you have finer hair and not as much of it, and if you don't have to press to get the bristles through your hair, the nylon tips will feel like a nice scalp massage. But given how hard I have to press this brush, the nylon bristles come very close to feeling like they're cutting my scalp. It's not a nice feeling.

My hair moisture is pretty normal---not too dry, not too oily---and this brush makes my hair unbelievably static-y. After I brush, I look like I've been touching one of those silver metal conductors at the science museum. I've had to get a leave-in conditioner just because of this hairbrush. Ugh.

The only good thing about this brush is that the density of the bristles will leave your hair feeling really really smooth and soft. Of course, I use conditioners and products for that... I really just want a hairbrush to 1) untangle my hair and 2) move it into place. This hairbrush fails to do that, and I'm pretty sure it's because of the type and texture of hair I have. If you have finer hair, I bet this brush would be amazing. But I think I might just go buy a cheap drugstore brush.

  • Wonderful Brush 4 Star Rating
I am very pleased with the Denman brush that I purchased. My five year old daughter and I both use this brush on a daily basis, and since using it I have noticed a big difference in our hair. The results are excellent with less breakage, no static and unbelievable softness. Finally, a brush that does not damage our hair!

  • Great Brush 5 Star Rating
My hair is long and fairly thick. I also get tangles on the under part of my hair near my neck. I wanted a brush that would penetrate to my scalp and get the tangles out easily. This brush does just that! If you have a tender scalp, this brush might be a little too harsh for you. Otherwise, it's awesome! I love it! It makes my hair look smooth and sleek! :)

  • Better Than Imagined 5 Star Rating
I have thick curly hair and was in desperate need of a new brush. My brush of 5 years was on its way out and I was having no luck in finding a replacement brush. I purchased several from big box stores, drugstores, beauty supply stores before I found this one. It grabs the hair and really holds it tight so I can blow it out straight. Very very happy with this product and even thinking of buying an extra one for future use!!

  • Great Brush, Should Have Got The Large Size. 4 Star Rating
I love what this brush does to my hair! I have shoulder length somewhat fine, wavy hair. It gives me tons of volume! I bought this particular brush because I didn't feel like spending $150 on a Mason Pearson right now. Turns out, this is a great brush. The only negative thing about it is, that the handle is too small, and makes it hard to get a good grip. I do probably have large hands for a female I guess. I bought a medium size. Should have bought a large apparently.

  • Better Than Others I Have Used, But... 3 Star Rating
I must have more than extra thick hair, because while it does work better than other bristle brushes I have used, it still isn't as good as some of the other reviews on here. It does help keep my hair baby soft, though, and has cut frizz some, too. Overall, I don't regret buying it, but I do wish it would work better on my super-thick hair.

These brushes are good duplicates of the Mason Pearson but the nylon bristles are too sharp. It felt like I was being scalped and it left my scalp very irritated . However the brushes without the nylon bristles are AMAZING!
