Melissa B.United StatesHairDark BrownDry HairThick or Coarse HairRelaxed HairChemically Treated HairYes, You Do Need A Professional-grade Flat-ironI always used to get those drugstore flatirons by Conair or Revlon or whatever that took a few minutes to heat up, never got your hair that straight and burned the tips. I had been coveting this Solia iron from Folica for a while, but I finally purchased one a few weeks ago and started using it to flat-iron my hair once weekly when I wash it.
SO WORTH IT. The plates close nicely without crimping the hair and leave marks; they slide evenly and it doesn't pull my hair out. The extra 1/4 inch is perfect for my thick coarse African-American hair, which is a bit past my shoulders. I was able to straighten my whole head in much less time than it normally took me with my cheap Conair from Target or whatever.
So it's totally worth it and if you are vascillating, go ahead and buy the iron. This is actually pretty inexpensive for a professional flat-iron.posted Nov 9, 2011Link to this post -
MagenTyler, TXHairMedium BrownNormal HairOily HairCurly HairAmazing!I got this as a Christmas present 2 years ago and it still works just as well as the first time I used it! I have naturally frizzy/wavy/curly hair and it used to take me at least 20 minutes to straighten my hair with my old straighter from Sally's Beauty Supply and it would start to get wavy by the end of the day! Not with this one! I can straighten it in 10 min and it lasts all day! Highly recommend to anyone!posted Nov 8, 2011Link to this post

MaureenMarylandHairMedium BrownCurly HairJust Stop Working :(I really like this straightener, it's the only one I've tried that has ever gotten my hair so silky and straight! But it has broken on me three times. The first one I had for almost 2 years, and one day it just would not turn on. So I went ahead and order a new one, because I loved it so much. That one I had for about 4 months, and then all of a sudden it just wouldn't turn on. So, I sent it back and got a replacement (because it does come with a 2 year warranty) It's now been like 7 months and the same thing happened to the new one. (still has not been 2 years) I just sent that one back and I'm hoping to get one that will work for more the a few months this time! It's to bad because I really like the way it straightens...when it works!posted Nov 7, 2011Link to this post

Laura L.MemphisHairBlackFine or Thin HairRelaxed HairChemically Treated HairGreat For Curling. But Straightening..?I'm African American, and I recently went from natural to relaxed (yes you read that right!) and I bought the solia flat iron to help for when I stretch out my relaxers. Honestly...it's just "ok" It doesn't make my hair soft at all, in fact it feels like straw (expensive heat protectant, hair masks , I use it all). I've only used it twice since I got it back in August. Maybe if I try it again it'll work better. I do have body in my hair when I use it, but who cares about body if your hair looks dry?! However, when you curl your hair it takes absolutely no time and it looks great. Don't get me wrong. It's a pretty good straightener, and if you want body in your hair it'll help you achieve it. I personally just find it very drying.posted Nov 6, 2011Link to this post

KarenMassachusettsHairBlondeDry HairColor Treated HairThick or Coarse HairSmooth And Sleek In A Flash!I ordered this flat iron after my old Paul Mitchell flat iron just wasn't doing a good job. This is the best flat iron I have ever seen - even better than the one my hairdresser uses (I am going to recommend it to him!). It works quickly and my thick coarse hair is smooth and sleek so much faster. I truly believe my hair is exposed to less heat damage because this works so quickly and thoroughly. Love, love, love this!posted Nov 4, 2011Link to this post

LisaPAHairBlackCurly HairLasted 6 1/2 Years!I bought my black Solia 1 1/4 inch back in 2004 and it lasted until this past May---some reviews said that the plates melted off after a while, and that is what happened to me BUT AFTER 6 1/2 YEARS!!! I've been using a $30 straightener since--and I just can't do it--once you go Solia you can't go back. I just ordered the 1 inch pink one and I can't wait for it to come in!posted Nov 1, 2011Link to this post

EricaMississippiHairBlondeColor Treated HairFine or Thin HairThis Flat Iron Is Amazing And Awesome!I have had a Chi iron for about 6 years, and another before that for 4 years. Lately, I could tell it was snagging my hair and breaking it and not getting it really straight. I get blonde and chocolate highlights, so I was concerned about breakage. My hair is baby fine, and this iron makes it even more silky and shiny! It heats up very fast, does not pull your hair, does not burn your hair, and it lightweight. I LOVE THIS THING!!! Also, shipping was fast and I like the heat resistant pad to keep my flat iron on my counter while it is on. Great product!!!posted Nov 1, 2011Link to this post

Kellie S.HairBlackDry HairCurly HairColor Treated HairThick or Coarse HairLove It, But It Broke. Twice.I have never loved a straightener more and i can not think of enough good things to say about it. I have very, very thick, frizzy, wavy, dry hair & this is the only straightener that i've tried that has ever gotten my hair so silky and straight! The only thing that kept me from giving if 5 stars, is that it has broken on me. TWICE. The first one I had for 10 months, and then all of a sudden it just wouldn't turn on. So, I sent it back and got a replacement (because it does come with a 2 year warranty) It's now been like 6 months and the same thing happened to the new one! I was so mad! Because I honestly love this straightener but please, do not waste your money on this. i'm sending mine back a second time and if it breaks again, i'm going to be incredibly mad.posted Oct 31, 2011Link to this post

NatalieSanta MonicaHairDark BrownDry HairCurly HairColor Treated HairThick or Coarse HairDid Not Live Up To The Hype Of All These ReviewsI was not impressed at all with this flat iron and it's already on it's way back to Folica.
First thing I noticed as I flat-ironed my hair was the the noise the plates made as my hair was passing thru. Not sure if it was a sizzling noise or what but needless to say, it made me nervous every time I flat-ironed my hair. I have used many flat irons in my life and never have I heard this noise. It was a very dry, grainy noise if that makes sense.
Secondly, I didn't like how dry my hair looked afterwards. This flat iron is described as one that will provide gentle heat while straightening with no damage and all I thought about each time I finished flat ironing my hair was how dry and brittle it looked. My flat iron before this, which broke and is the reason why I am in the market for a new one, never made my hair look this bad. I played around with the different temperatures to see if that had anything to do with it, but it didn't make a difference. Best way I can describe my hair is that it looked like a tree, with branches sprouting out wildly.
The only reason why I gave it 2 stars is that it kept my hair straight through out the day without flipping out or curling, which is a problem I have with my thick curly hair, but I'd rather have the flipping and curling out problem then this dry hay stack sitting on my head...
And for anyone thinking, "Well maybe you need to get a haircut," I take very good care of my hair and visit the salon regularly for trims--so that isn't it.
And for those thinking, "Why not stick with your old flat iron brand?" Well GHD is too expensive and I wasn't all that impressed with it either. For $185, the flat iron should magically do my hair when I'm asleep.posted Oct 31, 2011Link to this post -
