Nydie E.Ontario, CanadaHairBlackDry HairFine or Thin HairThick or Coarse HairRelaxed HairGreat Price, Great Quality, Great Product! After reading the reviews and seeing all the thumbs up from ladies with similar hair (Afro-American), I decided to purchase this product.Simply put this flat iron gets the job done. It heats up in under a minute, it can get very hot! so you dont need to turn it up all the way (even if your hair is coarse/thick). My hair is newly relaxed so I only need to put up to 290F this thing goes all the way to 450F! and you do not need to put a bunch of products in your hair to get that sheen. It isnt heavy, so that you feel comfortable maneuvering and at the same time is has enough weight that it does not feel cheap. It comes in really nice package with a handy mat/pouch, 2 year warranty and best of all quick and easy shipping! I give this iron two thumbs up and I even recommended to my friend.posted Dec 7, 2011Link to this post

KellyHairDark BrownDry HairCurly HairThick or Coarse HairNot Better Than Chi, But It's Pretty Good.I've had this flat iron for about 3 months now. I still have my ultra chi iron (2+ years), but decided to buy the Solia because of the good reviews and if my chi decides to break, I'll have a back up.
About my hair:
I have thick, coarse, very wavy hair. 100% asian (vietnamese+chinese). No perms or chemicals or coloring or bleaching in my hair.
Time:
-With my ultra chi (which does not have a temp. dial - 425 degrees?), it takes me, on average, 25-30 minutes to straighten my whole head to pin straight.
-With my solia (which does have a temp. dial - I usually have it a little above 290 degrees), it takes me about 30-35 minutes to get it pin straight.
What I Think About the Solia:
When I first got it in the mail, I opened the package and I really liked the box it came in. It was pretty. But I had a hard time trying to squeeze the flat iron back into the box after I was done using it. So, I just threw away the pretty box and used the heat pouch to store the iron.
For the flat iron itself, it wasn't as glossy as my ultra chi, but that didn't affect my judgement of it. In the 3 months that I've used it to curl and straighten my hair, it only tugged my hair a couple of times, but that was because I was in a rush.
I liked that it had a temp. dial. Since I straighten my hair a lot (1-3 times a week), it's important to have to minimize damage.
The swivel is always a must, especially if you are looking for a flat iron to curl.
The plates was glossy and not rough on my hair, so I liked that. It also curls my hair VERY nicely, without kinks.
Cons?
Pretty much, I liked almost everything the Solia had. But there was only one problem. I don't know if this is a malfunction or not, but I like to lower the temperature when I am straightening my bangs.
So I'll straighten my whole head first and then my bangs. Well, while the flatiron was on, I turned the temp. dial lower and all of a sudden, the whole flat iron shut off. When I switched it from off to on and off to on again, it would not turn on.
I thought it was broken.
Then, I unplugged it and let it sit there for like a minute.
After, I plugged it back in (while it was set to 'off') and then I turned it back on and it worked again.
So I guess it won't let you change the temperature while it's still on?
Well, from then on, whenever I want to change the temperature, I have to turn it off, change it, and then turn it back on.
I wished it had a reset button of some sort so I wouldn't have to waste time fooling with it if I forget to turn it off to change the temperature.
Overall review:
I gave this product a 4 out of 5 stars because of the problem I had with it. It straightens pretty good, but I am still an ultra chi lover (and a bit biased). However, if you can't afford a chi, I really do recommend this product as my second choice. I find myself using this flat iron more than my chi nowadays, so who knows?
Since pictures speak a thousand words, I took a few from the times I used this iron.
The first picture is of my natural hair with just mousse and gel scrunched out. Nothing else..
The second one is my hair straightened, but it's not the first day, it's the SECOND DAY. :) Pretty much, I straightened my hair, went through the whole day, put my hair in a low ponytail, went to sleep at night, woke up in morning, and then combed it out and straightened some kinks that my hair tie made, styled and then took the pic.
Hope this review helps!posted Nov 29, 2011Link to this post -
Maggie H.United StatesHairAuburnCurly HairThick or Coarse HairSolia LoveI received my first Solia about 2 years ago. At first, the smell was not so lovely from the plastic, but after a couple of uses, the smell vanished. Immediately, I noticed a huge difference from my previous flat iron (a Bed Head.) It made my thick, fine, medium, curly hair extremely straight. I had a frizz free straight look every time I used it, though towards the end of the day some frizz would creep back up. But, basically, I adore this flat iron. However, it just stopped turning on. This is something I see a lot of other reviewers having as well, but I ordered a new one (after an awesome sale at Folica, I snagged it for $54 dollars!) I'm excited for it to come it, but will definitely look for another brand should this one last a short amount of time.

AlexisHairDark BrownCurly HairI Heart Solia! Finally decided to upgrade after using my Conair Infiniti straightener & I am very glad that I did. I'm African American, White, and Native American so I needed something that could handle my curly hair & the Solia straightener did just that :) Its light weight, has a long chord, a variety of temperature settings, and is overall a great product. I would def recommend!posted Nov 25, 2011Link to this post

LindsayHairAuburnThick or Coarse HairGreat But..Great hair straightener and lighter than my old ones, but died after a year, disappointed and even though it comes with a 2 yr warranty, not worth (I live in Canada) it for me to send it back for a possibly refurbished replacement. Don't get me wrong, this is a great straightener and I have ordered another one, but wish it would've lasted longer!!!posted Nov 21, 2011Link to this post

NicoleAtlanta, GAHairBlackDry HairFine or Thin HairRelaxed HairFab Flat IronI really love this flat iron. It's way better than the Hot Tools and Conair ones that I've owned in the past. The fewer products in your hair, the better this flat iron works. I appreciate the fact that i don't need to put the heat all the way to the highest setting for it do the job. My hair has never looked better, really! Just look at the pictures.

NandiniHairBlackCurly HairFine or Thin HairPleased With My New Solia!I bought this flat iron a month ago after lot of debating and researching for the best one on market. It was quite economical and so I had doubts on how it would work. I have curly to wavy hair and they damage easily. I have tried this flat iron for a month now in rainy, sunny, cloudy and cold days and it works and works well! The only thing I don't like about it is that my hair looks dull and too straight couple of days after straightening. But, I'm still glad I bought it.posted Nov 14, 2011Link to this post

BanditdogUtahHairDark BrownOily HairColor Treated HairThick or Coarse HairDisappointing!Pros - heated up quickly, stayed hot, long cord.
Cons - despite "floating plates", the plates did not come together evenly when straightening, the plates were tight together at one end, hardly touching on the other, even when squeezing
-the unit is bulky, hard to straighten near the roots if you have shorter hair
-difficult to grip
-plates did not straighten smoothly, seem to catch hair and snag it.
-not worth the price!
