Great For My Thick Wavy Hair!This is my first 'real' straightener, previously I just purchased the Conair or Vidal irons at Target. What a difference this one makes!!!!! Before, I had to blow dry my hair, then blow w/ a round brush to straighten, and use the iron to smooth it out. With the Solia, all I have to do is blow dry, and go thru with the Solia iron, cuts my styling time in half! Simply The BestMy hair has never given me any trouble whatsoever and is really easy to style..thank the Lord lol...BUT after trying the chi and MANY other brands, this is by far the only one that gives me the best results!!! I mean my hair is like, not mine when I'm done using this. It gives you the most beautiful, smooth, shiny, soft, hair ever!!!! And it is also the only one that has given me that perfect poker/bone straight hair that is sometimes difficult to achieve. No Naps! Great Results!OK, so I've never reviewed a product I've purchased online but this one definitely deserved a review. I researched a LOT of flat iron options Friday afternoon and finally decided on this one. I've used friends' Sedu, FHI, and Chi flat irons but I love now that I have my own professional one that is just as good if not better than theirs. The price was great and in comparison to the others, this is just the perfect bang for my buck! I'm African American and have dry and VERY coarse hair that draws up (get nappy/curly) really quickly. I have a sew-in right now but I also have a part in it exposing some of my hair. I used to have a perm but I've let it grow out. This past week it has been very hot and humid here in Michigan and each time I would flat iron the portion of my hair exposed, with my $30 flat irons, it would sweat out in two seconds. HOWEVER today when I washed and flat ironed my entire head I used the Solia flat irons and it has yet to mess up! My hair is so smooth and the part that is exposed looks as if my beautician did it. This Tool Was No Bueno!I bought this around March for a birthday gift. Boy do i wish i should've returned it when i had the chance! I would blow dry my hair straight but at times it gets left frizzy at the ends and need to touch up my roots. When i go over with the flat iron, it seems like its good but then 10min later my roots begin to thicken and my ends become all frizzy again! This soo wasnt worth $80. Great For Now, Lifespan Not SoI purchased my Solia 1 3/4 flat iron about 3-4 years ago. Fell in love! It made my hair silky and shiny and soft. I also use to flat iron my hair slightly, with a midst of water so it wouldn't be so dry and it would straighten my hair without scorching my hair! Well things started to happen...the symbol on the hinge broke and the plate somehow peeled and revealed the metal underneath the blue coat....I'm now natural 4a hair type and tried to flat iron my hair hair and my flat iron just laughed in my face, it didnt do anything! My hair felt dry, and it just loosened the curl not straighten my hair, and the shine was gone! I'm assuming its because of the age of the flat iron...idk. But I'm fairly disappointed. It Doesn't Fight The HumidityI have been using the Solia for a few years and while I get great results with it, the moment I step out of the door and into the hot, humid air, my hair frizzes back out with ease. Yes, I have tried anti-humidity/anti-frizz products with the Solia and unfortunately I see no difference. In the cold, dry months I get to keep my results longer, which I am thankful for. If you live in a climate with lots of humidity, think twice about buying this product. Awesome Results But Not-so-awesome DurabilityI love this flat iron. I've had it for a little over two years and used it 3-4 times a week and it definitely is the best flat iron I've ever used (granted, this is the most expensive flat iron I've ever bought). But I loved how it heated up SO fast, loved the temperature control, loved how easy it was to use and hold.
My ONLY problem was that one of the plates started falling out about a year and a half after I bought it. Using a towel, I would easily snap it back into place and continue using the iron. Fast forward one year (almost 2 1/2 yrs after buying it) and it's no longer usable. As soon as the iron gets hot, both plates keep falling out and won't stay in no matter how hard I push to get them back in.
Maybe I'm expecting too much but for paying this much, I was hoping to get at least another year or two out of it.

Didn't Work That Great For MeI bought this flat iron last year and have been using it for almost a year now. I am African American with thick, long, and coarse hair. I guess type 4. I do not have a perm so I'm not sure if that made a difference. I like how my hair looks when I first flat iron it. But just a few hours after, my hair starts frizzing up and after a day, it looks like I never ran a flat iron over it. My hair usually holds heat pretty well and I never had to flat iron more than once a week before. So this flat iron wasn't the one for me. I tried using anti-frizz products and heat protectants but no difference. I'm purchasing the Croc Infrared Iron hoping that will serve me better!posted Jul 19, 2011Link to this post
