Fast Heat, Snags A Lot.The positive features of this flat iron are that it heats up quickly, it's pretty lightweight, has a good range of temperature settings and if I accidentally touch the back while using it, it doesn't burn my fingers.
It does a decent job of straightening my hair but my daughter's beauty supply store brand iron does a better job.
The major issue for me is that it snags my hair like crazy! I though maybe it was my technique so I had my daughter iron my hair and it still pulled my hair. She used it on her hair and it pulled her hair too. My hair is fairly thin and fine. Hers is very thick but still fine.

7 Years And Going Strong!I got my first Solia when I was a junior in high school and it is still going strong. I've had 2 Chi Irons in the past and both of them shorted out in the cord. I was hesitant to buy the Solia because I had only used Chi in the past but decided to go for it. I'm so happy that I did. I've had my pink Solia for 7 YEARS and it is still going strong. Caught On Fire!I have gone through 2 of these in just little over a year. The first one quit working after a month or two, and Folica of course replaced it. Yesterday it started acting weird, and then this morning it CAUGHT ON FIRE in my bathroom. I had only had it plugged in for maybe 10-15 minutes. And it was only set on maybe 300 or so, I had it turned down. Horrifying.
It did work very well while I had it, much better than the Chi I used to have. Thank goodness for Folica.com's wonderful customer service and warranty, I have already spoken to them and am putting it in the mail today and they are going to replace it with a different iron, I think I'm going with the HAI as I've read good things about it.

So So ResultsI was expecting this flat iron to be alot better. It snags my hair alot because of the weird shaped plates. Its pulled more hair out of my head than any other flat iron I've ever tried. Best Flat Iron I Have Ever Used.I have thick natural African-American Hair. I originally bought the Sedu and thought it was overpriced. I exchanged it for the Solia. The Solia allows me to get my hair smooth and straight and no one can believe that my hair is not relax. I also notice less pulling, less damage to my ends, and my hair is more humidity resistant than when I straighten it with a hot comb or other flat irons. One Swipe And I'm Done!I am transitioning from relaxed to natural and currently 10 weeks post relaxer. My hair is shoulder length and fine. I bought this iron b/c my FHI is too big to do my hairline (1 & 3/4") and 6 years old so no floating plates. I ordered on Friday and got it today (Monday) I was so excited I used it tonight.
I liked it b/c set at 370 degrees my hair came out very straight, shiny and smooth with a little bump on the ends on purpose. I felt no pulling and only had to run it through my hair once.
I would recommend b/c it does what it says and give great results. I had reservations based on some of the reviews but honestly cannot complain about this item's performance. It arrived quickly, assembled, the off button is not so close that you would burn yourself turning it off, it curls and flips easily if you use the right temperature for your hair. I think it's good for many different hair textures.
I got the pink b/c of price and availability. The one issue that came up is the temperature setting is written in white against a pink background. There's little contrast making it hard to see without my glasses. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase.posted May 3, 2011Link to this post -

Not Quite What I Had Expected ...When I had ordered this flat iron from Folica.com, I was expecting it would deliver & look like the picture. Wrong. first impression : cheap, possibly fake, metal plates NOT ceramic, looks hollow, like someone pasted on the Solia logo... Then I had ordered 2 day shipping, took 1 week, & $11.63 C.O.D. charge.. I thought that was included in shipping ? Then while i was straightening my hair, it smelled REALLY bad and began to steam.... and it only straightens if on a high setting ! It also WILL NOT curl my hair, and the funny thing is, i have fine red hair, VERY EASY to manage , very shiny & soft. Bad PurchaseI wanted a flat iron that could curl and straighten, so I bought this one.
It's a decent straightener except it pulls my hair as I straighten.
As for curling, it's a let-down. I know that I shouldn't be judging a flat iron on its curling ability. But...it says it can flip and spiral! It's very hard to curl with this flat iron. Plus, when I do manage get a curl or two, it falls flat an hour later, even with hairspray.

Super Fast Touch UpsI decided to get the pink even though it was a little extra and I love the color, even the cord is pink!
That aside, I've had it for two weeks now. I takes me about 25 minutes to straighten my hair, which is what I expected. What I love is that it stays straight, not at all poofy all day! And then the next morning re-straightening is like a five minute deal.
When I use the iron to curl my hair, the curls stay really pretty for about 12 hours, with no hair spray! And then straightening the little waves that are left the next day takes under ten minutes, maybe even under five and it looks perfect again.
Super Happy with this product!
I was a little intimidated by the cost, I just DON'T spend money on my hair. BUT I just went for it and now I can wear my hair straight with confidence instead of sticking it straight into a pony because it's too poofy.
My hair is also very long, like down to the bottom of my rib cage and all this length is very susceptable to getting little waves in it - especially when I put it in a pony tail, which I do on and off all day - but the crimp I usually got in my hair I only get now if I leave my hair up for like half the day. But it's so super straight, that one hour in a pony isn't really noticable when I take it out!
And lets see, it delivered a day early and I'm across the country from where they shipped it. Oh and I'm not any kind of expert, I'm a mother of three kids under three and with the speed this thing offers I'm able to do something nice with my hair without spending hours on it! I just take a shower, hop straight into bed with wet hair, wake up with damp hair and about 30 mins (damp hair takes a tad bit longer for me) later, I have beautiful hair!
