Not Sure What The Hype Is About??I've had this straightener for about a year now, and always thought it just 'did the job'. I dont have extremely curly hair, just a natural wave. Whenever I would straighten my hair it would do the job, but it never looked sleek and shiny. This straightener would leave my hair frizzy and by the end of the day, not very straight. I always thought my hair was just weird until I used my friends straightener (babybliss) and was completely amazed with the results! Sleek, shiny hair- what I never thought I could have because of this horrible straightener. This Flat Iron Has Been Through Everything!I first want to start with saying that I got this flat iron when I was 22 years old, I'll be turning 30 in 2 months! I've had it for 8 YEARS!! I am just now looking to get another one because the wire is starting to short when it twists, so the power goes on and off when it is in certian positions. When I noticed it wasn't working I was so sad, and then realized why. I have had this for so long it became part of my life!! It's been all over the country, been with me for all special events, saved me on many a humid day! The thought of another flat iron never crossed my mind. It's like replacing a pet lol. With that being said, this is an amazing product!!!! I am the poster child for tight curly, frizzy, dry, damaged hair. I am mixed black/white if that helps. And this flat iron changed my life. I've tired others that my firends use but none compare. I've had friends use mine and they would say "my hair is too flat" lol! It surprises everyone! When I tell people the name or where I got it, NOBODY has ever heard of it. I pass on the word, but I'm just as happy to keep this as my little secret :)
I'm going to replace mine due to the shorting out, but I'm getting confused by a lot of the reviews I'm reading. It seems like everyone is having problems with it breaking down within a year or 2. I'm hoping it was just a defective batch because from my experience this flat iron has gone from my college days to now me having a baby (Due in 3 weeks), and I'm going to trust it will last just as long again :)posted Sep 13, 2011Link to this post -

This straightener has so much hype about it and I just don't understand. Maybe if your hair is wavy or not that curly this might do a better job on those types of hair. I am Latina and have curls. This flat iron is just horrible .. like really just horrible.
1.The plates burn your fingers when you try to straighten your hair,
2. The plates don't GRIP your hair at all to get it straight.
3. The straighteness in your doesn't last throughout the day.
4. This straightener makes your hair fluffy and poofy, NOT sleek and straight.
5. Oh and the plates don't allow you to get to your roots
Ladies with curls, I'm trying to help you out. Do not buy this its a waste of money. It really does burn your fingers and doesn't grip your hair at all to get it straight. It looks nice in the beginning but it won't even last the day. If your caucasian and your hair is wavy and thin then this is the product for you. This straightening iron was just NOT made for girls with thick or curly to semi curly hair. It just wasn't. Love, Coco.

GreatI have had mine for 4 years 3 months and it worked very well until today. It stopped working in the middle of doing my hair. I have thick, wavy hair and it did a great job. I'm ordering another one. Shopping with Folica.com has been a great experience in the past and I hope it hasn't changed. Perfect For Transitioning Or Natural African-american Hair!After 4 years of using the Solia 1 1/4" iron, I was ready to give a new product a try. My needs changed as a result of deciding to stop relaxing my hair, and my Solia was a bit worn out. I love the Solia product, but it is much thicker than the Sedu. I knew I wanted to stick with a tourmaline ceramic iron, and was curious about the Sedu after seeing all of its great reviews and high ratings here on Folica. The design of the Sedu allows me to get to the root of my hair, one of the most diffcult parts about straightening African-American hair. I am also impressed with how lightweight the iron is, and it heats up incredibly fast! The first time I used the iron, I was surprised to feel it heating up almost immediately. It heats all the way to the desired temperature in under a minute, even if you set it to the maximum of 410 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, the plates are incredibly smooth--they feel like glass. There is no tugging of the hair as you glide the iron down. It flips my ends nicely if I choose to use the iron that way. As with any iron, if your hair is resistantly curly or kinky, a good blowout is a necessary step to take before picking up the Sedu if you want the best results. And do not skip the heat protectant! any of such items could last very long if used with proper care yet could equally go bad if handled by amateurs.

It Doesn't Hold UpIt is nice to have the 2 year warranty because we are now replacing this flat iron for the second time in less than a year. My sister and I use it fairly regularly (though not daily) and we both have thick hair. We were disappointed that this flat iron didn't hold up.
