CaitlynUnited StatesHairDark BrownCurly HairThick or Coarse HairRelaxed HairChemically Treated HairSedu Vs. HaiI've been using the much-touted Sedu Pro Ionic Tourmaline Straightener for the past year with mixed results. I am half black and I relax my hair but I don't get it to the point where it is completely bone straight. Therefore, i have to constantly straighten my bangs less they look like a big frizzy mess in the front of my head. Since I chemically relax my hair and straighten my hair a lot, I like to use the straightening iron on a low temperature. The Sedu works well for straightening the chemically relaxed portion of my hair but it has been 12 months since my last relaxer and therefore I have a lot of "new growth." The Sedu leaves me with half straightened hair (the relaxed portion) and half fuzzy hair (the new growth portion). Even as I crank the temperature up to attempt to get the new growth portion of my hair relatively straight, it still wont get completely straight or even adequately straight. I know I can't exactly expect to get the untreated portion of my hair as straight as the chemically treated portion of my hair but the results still seemed subpar. I've used the straightener on my friend's thick mexican wavy hair and it seems that the Sedu tends to straighten the hair only to the point of giving it a straight natural look (as in it doesn't leave the hair silky straight). I've recently purchased the Hai Convertible Straightener that seems to lack the technology the Sedu has BUT i used it for the first time today and it got my bangs silky straight from root to tip and was used at the same temperature I normally use my Sedu at. I had long figured that the Sedu was the best option out there because of its reputation on this site, its higher price point, and the added technology, but alas this has not been the case for me.posted Dec 14, 2011Link to this post

PauletteHairMedium BrownNormal HairOily HairCurly HairColor Treated HairFine or Thin HairBest Flat Iron Ever!I bought one of these about 4-5 years ago (forgot when) and its just now starting to short out.....so its time to buy a new one. AnnaLos AngelesHairBlondeCurly HairFine or Thin HairLasts Forever!I bought this approx 4-5 years ago and it is still working! I love it and would recommend it again and again. It straightens easily but without flattening your hair as much other professional flat irons. The straighten lasts until the next time I wash too. It's just now starting to fade - takes slightly longer to heat up and looks a bit beaten. I plan to purchase this exact product again within the next 6 months.posted Nov 30, 2011Link to this post

TinaUnited StatesHairDark BrownNormal HairColor Treated HairWill Die After A YearI bought this flat iron a little over a year ago, and it worked fine up until last week. I read all the reviews about how it will die, and I believed them, just didn't think it would happen to me. Well now I'm without a nice flat iron :( This iron gets pretty hot, I like that I can adjust the temp. I think it's a nice flat iron, doesn't snag hair. I won't buy it again since it only lasted for a year + few months and I hardly used it having a pixie haircut. If you need a hot flat iron that won't snag your hair, gets hot, and think a year is reasonable lifetime for the product, then buy it.posted Nov 29, 2011Link to this post

DamarisArcadia, CAHairDark BrownCurly HairFirst One Was Awesome, Second One...not So Much.My first purchase from Folica was this flat iron. I have bought two of these over the course of 5+ years. The first one was great. Unfortunately, during a trip overseas, it died on me. Naturally, there was no question as to which flat iron I would buy. I ordered a second one. Sadly, about 6 months after I bought it, the "special coating" on the plates began to peel off right in the middle of each plate. I didn't think much of it since it was very little at first, but after almost a year, it's gotten really bad to a point where it now needs to be replaced. I feel my hair is getting burned by the plates, especially where the coating has peeled off. I just ordered a new Sedu Revolution Tourmaline Ionic Styling Iron 1--a lot more expensive-- but I'm afraid if I order another one of these HAI irons, the coating will also peel with time =( Attached are some pictures of what my iron looks like now.

CSeattle, WAHairCurly HairThick or Coarse HairGreat Flat IronI have had this flat iron now for about 2 years and it has been great. I have thick, wavy hair so naturally I go through flat irons every 1.5-2 years. I had a problem with the last one I had and now after 2 years, this one is not getting as hot anymore, so its time for a new one. I decided to move onto the ghd but I would certainly tell anyone who is thinking about this iron to go for it, its cheap and its a good, reliable flat iron.posted Nov 14, 2011Link to this post
