NitaHairBlackCurly HairColor Treated HairThick or Coarse HairStraightens Natural 4a/4b
I am African American with very thick, natural, "hard to straighten" hair. I purchased an HSI flat iron last year and it left my hair extremely frizzy. I really assumed that all flat irons would do this to my hair. However, the FHI flat iron did the job. It straightened my coarse hair and it looked very smooth. Once I blow-dried my hair, this flat iron did its magic. I normally just straighten my natural hair three times a year. This flatiron straightened my hair as if I straightened it all the time. I love this tool. I will never try another. I was pleasantly surprised with the unexpected results.

CarolIllinoisHairMedium BrownFine or Thin HairTechnique Okay But Platform Was What I Had And Was Looking To Replace...so Many Options..I previously had the FHI platform although I did not know there was so many options when I ordered the Techinique once my Platform finally broke. I purchased my Platform in the spring of 2006 and it finally konked out during the winter of 2010. I feel that is money well invested because I used it everyday, dropped it a handful of times, traveled with it wherever I went. The FHI product is great for straight hair without split ends. It heats up super fast and allows me to grip the hair tightly for that extra smooth look. The Platform is a step above the Techinique from what I can tell because it can take hair from wet to dry, it has a temperature adjustment which mine shut off after a certain amount of time. The Technique has only a on/off switch so if you're on the run and forget to turn it off it will be on all day heating which we pay for! When I take a shower I found extremely helpful to know that my iron would work on wet or dry hair so I didn't need to worry when I took a shower. This is very helpful with children since I don't always know when I'll get that shower in! I bought the Platform in preparation for a pageant I was competing in and it did not disappoint me afterward either! I still use velcro rollers for volume on occasions but the Platform actually helps my hair stay looking so nice, it actually saves me money because I don't visit the salon as much! Yeah for value here!!!posted Feb 23, 2011Link to this post

Cori K.Vancouver, BCHairBlondeThick or Coarse HairNot Worth ItI bought this iron at a salon for much more than it costs on folic.ca, and its not worth the money. There is no temp. control and it just doesnt take the frizz out of my hair. it straightens ok, but not fantastic. You have to go over each section multiple times to get it straight. I have thick, coarse somewhat wavy hair, and the sedu iron works MUCH BETTER! I have just ordered another one. The only bad thing about the sedu is that it breaks after a couple years. But at least it takes the frizz out and leaves you with nice silky hair!posted Jul 20, 2010Link to this post

HelenUSAJust AverageI have used Metropolis tourmaline and T3 flat irons that I consider to be excellent. I bought this to compare to the t3 and did 1/2 my hair with this one and 1/2 with t3. The FHI did not get my hair as silky or smooth and did not get it as sleek. I also didnt like that there was no temperature adjustment. Overall this is an average iron--go for the t3 instead.posted May 6, 2009Link to this post

Christina ThorstedWorks Ok But...Actually I made an error when purchasing. I had borrowed a similar FHI from my sister. I thought this model had a thermostat I could control. It does not and for my thicker, courser hair and just does not seem to get hot enough to get it pin straight. Works great on my daughters hair which is slightly wavy my finer than mine.posted Apr 20, 2008Link to this post

BreFloridaIt Works Well, But Way Too Hot.I really like the silky glide of this flat iron and it straightens in one stroke, the only problem I have is that it has no temperature setting. It goes up to 410 degrees which can only be used on thick hair and since my hair is thin that isnt a good idea. I would buy another FHI, but it would have to be temperature adjustable.posted Apr 20, 2008Link to this post

Kim BrownLexington, NCAfrican American With An Fhi!!!!!!I am an African American female who have used numerous department store flat irons. My friend suggested the FHI because she went 4 months without a relaxer and it looked as if she had a relaxer. My 5 year old has very thick coarse hair and the FHI straightens it better and quicker than a pressing comb.My caucasian and hispanic co workers want to borrow it all the time. Another good quality is its quick and I only go through my hair once.Definitely worth the money!!posted Feb 21, 2008Link to this post

KimmyGeorgiaWorking Out WellFor all of you ladies who are natural(meaning no perms, texturizers or kiddie perms) this is the flat iron for you. I have been natural for 7 years now and I have used many ceramic irons. This one gets my hair as close the way it looks when I leave the hair salon. The price was not bad either!posted Feb 13, 2008Link to this post

AjcGreat, But Doesn't Curl Like A 1".The 1 inch version curls as well as straightens, so I have one of each. Be careful not to drop to a tile floor, the hinge will shatter!posted Feb 7, 2008Link to this post

HeatherBoston, MassachusettsFabulousI am so happy with this purchase. It works well and is fast! The hair doesnt seem to stick or catch at all..just glides. I notice much less breakage than with the Chi or others that I have used. The size is easy to handle and it isnt as heavy feeling as some. Id buy it again.posted Feb 1, 2008Link to this post
