Average :/I'm a complete hair-junkie and I just had to try this straightener. The flat iron itself is fairly priced, but the results are not I expect. On the plus side, it heats up quick and makes your hair soft (but not shiny). What put it at 3 stars for me is that it snags pieces of your hair when your straightening it. It doesn't hurt, but it's pulling your hair out pieces at a time! I can't live with that. It doesn't do well on curling your hair, but it does well on almost anything else. I've had mine for about, what two years now? I've only kept it for the money I had spent on it. First Time Using Higher End Flat Iron.. In Love!!!First time trying a straighter/ flat iron that was not from drugstore. Very please with it. Gets hair super flat and straight and shiny (stays straight and everything till next wash). At first, before I tried it, I thought the heat setting would not be hot enough. But in mere seconds it heats up so fast. It takes a while for the light to flash before its ready to use but honestly I wait for like only 20 seconds and I start using it... I don't wait for the light to flash. This is a good investment if you want a good decent flat iron but not pay the big bucks ($200-$300) for one. Buy it when it's on sale. Lots of places have them for about 100 bucks. I only gave 4 stars b/c I didn't know you can't use it with a travel adapters in countries other than north america... it says do not so I wouldn't dare try to. Dont Waste Your Money!!!This straightener works great... when it actually turns on. I've had mine for 10 months and it just stopped working. I was literally in the middle of using it; when it shut off. Farouk ( the actually maker of CHI) has horrible customer service and will not back up their product. If you purchase the straightener online the manufacturer's warranty becomes void. Luckily, Folica.com does honor the warranty. I now have to pay to ship it off, pay to use the warranty, and wait until a refurbished CHI is sent back to me. I sincerely hate this product. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON IT!!!! Can't Live Without This Iron!I love this flat iron--it makes my hair sleek and shiny fast. I've had the same iron for about three years and it still works as good as the day I got it. There do seem to be some quality issues with Chi, as the first iron I received from Folica didn't work (hence the four star rating, otherwise, it would have been five). I returned it and received a new iron quickly. So this iron seems to be a hit-or-miss: if you are lucky enough to get one properly made, you will love it and it will last forever. But if you get a defective one, it will break down and disappoint. Luckily, I got a good one!
On a side note, the return with Folica was problem-free. I was concerned about returning the item, as I don't live in the US. But Folica refunded my return shipping costs and sent me a replacement iron at no extra cost. That's what I call customer service!posted Nov 25, 2010Link to this post -

Farouk Systems Does Not Stand Behind ProductMy flat iron is less than 2 years old and has been gently used. It does not work anymore -- will not heat up or turn on. Works Satisfactorily, Until It Decides To Stop WorkingA friend recommended that I pick up this CHI flat iron to help on those humid or frizzy hair days. My hair is naturally wavy, but I can usually get away with a solid hair dry and a quick finish with the CHI to help avoid my hair getting out of control by midday. For that, the CHI worked fine. It was quick to heat up and lightweight. Mind you, I was using this for maybe 10 minutes 3-4 days per week.
BUT...
I've had the CHI since May (so about 6 months), and over the last few weeks I noticed that the CHI would not turn on. After hitting the Reset button a number of times and trying new outlets it would eventually work. Well, yesterday it finally bit the dust. After reading numerous posts online of other customers experiencing this issue I am kicking myself for not doing more research before shelling out $100 for this item.
In a nutshell: If you are looking for a reliable investment, spend the extra $30 or $40 and get something that is going to last you a long time. The CHI is not going to be good to you long term.posted Nov 11, 2010Link to this post -

Make Sure You Keep The Warranty!This was my first expensive hair straightener as well. At first, it was fine (I don't know if THAT much better than the usual drugstore brands, but OK). However, I have had it less than six months and one of the plates stopped heating up -- for no reason that I can see. I did not keep the sales receipt, so there is nothing I can do. A Big Turn Off....I got my Chi as a Christmas gift, and without even having it for a year- it will not turn on... Performance wise it worked just fine, but I was really hoping it would've lasted longer than 10 months!! It was explained to me that the switch (on/off) was broke and would probably need service work done to it!
