Step 3: Apply Color

Preliminary Patch Test Procedure:
As with any hair coloring product a patch test must be conducted prior to using Satin Cream Hair Color, to ensure no allergic reaction will occur. Gently cleanse a small area on the inner surface of your forearm or behind you ear with soap and water. Apply a small amount of the preparation . After 24 hours, the treated area should be washed again with soap and water. If no irritation is apparent, you can proceed with the application of color. The test should always be carried out before each application. Satin Cream Hair Color must not be used for dyeing eyelashes or eyebrows.

Preliminary Test Strand Procedure:
Always take a strand test before giving color application to preview final results. Prepare a test solution of the exact shade and developer mixture to be used. Cut 20-30 strands of your hair and saturate the strands of hair with test solution. Check color after 25 minutes and every 5 minutes thereafter until desired color is achieved. Note timing and use for full application.

First Time Application:
Mix 1 oz. Satin Cream Hair Color with 2 oz. Satin Developer in a small nonmetallic bowl. With dry or towel dried hair, section off hair into four equal quadrants. Begin application where hair is darkest, (usually nape of neck) then apply color to the rest of hair, leaving approximately 1/2 inch of the roots untouched. Leave on hair for 20 minutes, now prepare to color the roots. Mix a fresh formula of 1 oz. color with 2 oz. Satin Developer, apply mixture to roots and process for an additional 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Shampoo with Satin Shampoo until the water runs clear; then use Satin Color Care Conditioner to remove all chemicals from hair and ensure optimum color longevity.

Retouch Application:
Mix 1 oz. Satin Cream Hair Color with 2 oz. Satin Developer in a small nonmetallic bowl . With dry or towel dried hair, apply mixture to the re-growth and leave on for 30 minutes. At 30 minutes, comb remaining color mixture through the rest of the hair and leave on for an additional 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Shampoo with Satin Color Care Shampoo until the water runs clear; then use Satin Color Care Conditioner to remove all chemicals from hair and ensure optimum color longevity.

For Gray Coverage:
Make sure to leave the color on the re-growth area for a full 45 minutes for optimum gray coverage. Do not leave Satin Cream Hair Color on the hair longer than 45 minutes, even in difficult cases. Do not leave on processed ends for more than 5 min. Do not use Satin Cream Hair Color on hair that has been previously processed with metallic dyes.

I have been using Clairol Natural Instincts in Sahara on my medium blond hair. Over repeated uses the color was seeming a bit brassy and getting too uniform for my liking. I saw Satin Color on folica.com and it had good reviews, and decided to try Satin color in 10N using the semi-permanent developer to see if it would tone it down. Well this is now going to be my new brand of color!! Not only did it correct the tone of the blonde, but it blended in the root area nicely.Although I do like Natural Instincts, the Satin Color semi-permanent is much more flexible because you can mix up how much you need without the color going bad, and one tube of color and one 6 oz. bottle of developer is the equivalent o 2-3 applications of a boxed color kit. The smell is not bad, and it left my hair in incredible condition. I will probably buy also try Satin color in other shades now also.

  • Note To People Who Have Negative Comments 4 Star Rating
To those of you who say that this color "didn't change my hair color at all". I GUARANTEE that is because you currently have color ON your hair. Note: color will not LIFT a color out of your hair that you currently have on it...it will only deposit. Example: you color your hair to a level 3, you now decide you want to be 2 levels lighter, a level 5. The only way to achieve this is to PRE-LIGHTEN the hair with lightener. You can at that point deposit the level 5 color you desire. Just keep in mind...color will not lift color.

I have chemically straightened hair and also have begun to grey, it is so difficult to find a hair color gentle enough for my hair that also gives great grey coverage. Satin hair color is by far the best I've found. It leaves my hair soft and provides excellent grey coverage. I will be using this color for years to come.

  • Sadly Dissapointed :( 1 Star Rating
I was very excited to buy this color, and after reading the reviews, I decided to give it a go. I feel that the color didn't mix with the developer (also Satin) very well. I mixed and let it process just as the directions stated. I then washed out my color and blow dried my hair. My haircolor had not changed at ALL aside from a small bleached section of my hair (from a previous streak). Fifteen bucks down the drain. Don't buy this color.

Not only does it not dry your hair out, but the color stays better than any other brand I have had on my hair. I use reds in with my browns. We all no reds fade quickly, Satin Colror has great fade resistant. I have had everything from Redkin, to every other brand and NOTHING BEATS SATIN!!!!!

  • Always Looks Great! 5 Star Rating
Ive been using Satin hair color, 7mr, for several years, and I really love it. I had tried many drugstore brands, like Feria, etc., and nothing gave me the consistent results I was looking for. The color always looks natural, lasts a long time, and doesnt dry my hair. I totally recommend it!
