Before using colorfix After using colorfix

Directions

For full color correction:

  1. Apply to dry hair.
  2. Mix equal parts of  Colorfix Part 1 Color Reducer and Part 2 Conditioning Catalyst in tint bowl or an applicator bottle. (Mix as much as will be needed for the density and length of hair that requires correction.) Wearing gloves and using a tint brush, apply quickly and evenly to the hair. If mixed in an applicator bottle, shake vigorously until thoroughly mixed (45 seconds to 1 minute). Gently work through the hair to ensure even penetration. After mixing Part 1 Color Reducer and Part 2 Conditioning Catalyst, use as quickly as possible, since the activity of the mixture decrease with time.
  3. Cover loosely with a plastic cap, and process up to 20 minutes. Strand test frequently. Low, warm dryer heat may be used to speed processing time.
  4. Rinse hair for 3-5 minutes and shampoo. If sufficient color is not removed, repeat Step 2 and 3 (this may be done on damp, towel-dried hair). Depending on condition of scalp and hair, do not repeat process more than 2-3 times.
  5. When desired level of color removal has been achieved, apply Processing Lotion for 5 minutes. (Due to the nature of dye molecules, it is possible that hair may redarken to an unacceptable level. If it does, repeat Steps 2-4 on damp hair, until sufficient color is removed.)
  6. Rinse well. Dry hair with a warm heat setting. (A hot setting may cause scalp irritation.) You may now proceed with your color application, if performing a full color corrective service.

For slight color correction (lighten color that has gone too dark or ashen):

  1. Mix 1/4 oz Part 1 Color Reducer + 1/4 oz Part 2 Conditioning Catalyst + 1 oz Shampoo.
  2. Wearing gloves, apply to damp, towel-dried hair. Apply only to the areas of the hair that require lightening, and work into lather. To determine timing, take a strand test frequently.
  3. When the desired shade has been reached, rinse thoroughly and shampoo.

Tips for successful color correction:

  • Always strand test color formulas to be used prior to application. Remember, porous hair will absorb colors more quickly and the resulting hair color may be slightly darker. You may need to formulate 1-2 levels lighter than desired result.
  • Always use a low pH conditioner after an application of Colorfix. This will help protect the hair, and return it to a more normal state.
  • Colorfix is developed to remove oxidative dyes. Since most semipermanent colors are combination of direct dyes and oxidative dyes, Colorfix may only partially remove these.

  • Works, But Really.. Don't Expect Your Natural Color 3 Star Rating
As other people have stated, this product probably wont get you your natural haircolor back. If you dyed your hair, its changed the protiens permanently, so this only can do so much.I bought it because I have been dying my hair for several years. I wanted to go back to my natural blonde color, and there were several layers of dye on my hair. The red dyes in my hair were very persistant, and so I did this to even my hair all out. It worked, but I ended up with apricot colored hair. I then had to bleach it, and now have light yellow bleached hair that I will have dyed back to normal blonde.Personally, I wouldnt buy this product again. It seemed like it worked okay, but its semi expensive, and not worth the money. Go to a professional, or enlist the help of a cosmotologist friend if you want to fix your haircolor, dont use this stuff.

  • Not Good 1 Star Rating
Lets just say that my hair turned orange and it made my hair so unhealthy - crunchy to the touch actually. I regretted using this kind of product. I just hope my hair grows out quickly. I do understand that this product doesnt return your color back to normal; also that you have to re-color it BUT it really damaged my hair. I am not a happy camper.

  • One N' Only Colorfix 4 Star Rating
I found this product to be pretty good actually. I mwas fed up with my dyed black hair and wanted to see if I could remove the permament hairdye off my hair. I searched and searched the internet and stores and found this product. Whilst I did not end up with my original haircolor, it did take off a lot of the permament hair dye and I have been left with a nice soft natural color. Just be careful though - it stinks and the smell will stay in your hair for a while (more so when hair is wet). This product is worth it if you really want to get rid of that permament dye NOW!!

  • Works Perfectly 5 Star Rating
As another reviewer said... you cannot return to your natural color after using permanent color. Colorfix removes the *artificial* pigment, revealing what is left of your natural color, which will be something in the range of red, orange or yellow. THEN you have to tone that color. This product is not for people who have no knowledge of haircolor science and color theory. To that person, I would highly recommend a professional or a LOT of research... That said, this product works perfectly every time, doing what it is supposed to do, which is to remove the artificial pigment.

  • Lightened My Dark, Dark Hair. 5 Star Rating
My hair color was really very pretty, but it was just too dark for my face and age. I followed the directions for lightening one hair on the inside the box (written on inside, tear box apart), did the strand test, and then my hair. For my hair, I left it on 5 minutes, and quickly washed it out. One thing I did not do and will do next time is wear gloves. That stuff really stings, though it didnt last long and I did wash it several time. My hair looks really good now.Patt

  • Product Saves The Day! 5 Star Rating
This product was perfect. It removed all of the bad hair color. I was afraid I would have to recolor my hair aftwards, but after removal of the bad hair color, my hair looked just fine. Eventually I will recolor it, when my roots have grown out, but for the time being, my hair is getting some needed rest. My only criticism is that if you have long hair, you might need to order more than one box. My hair goes down to the mid of my back and I used the entire box in one use. If you need to use it a couple of times to get out all of the bad color and you have long hair, you may need to buy more than one box.

  • Great Stuff- Always On Hand 5 Star Rating
I keep this stuff around constantly- I am a permanent hair dye addict and I also like to use Manic Panic and Punky Colors. When I need to start over, I can use color fix to bring me back to a blanker state, a cleaner slate. I have lifted bright blue, purple, jet black, bright red, pink, you name it. Do not expect to use this product and be able to walk out the door, however. It should be used in conjunction with a new color to acheive the results youre after, especially if youre lifting semi permanent funky colors! When i lifted the blue, I had greenish, reddish, blondish hair for a day. I applied colorfix again and my result was a reddish blonde that absolutly needed another coloring agent. I had my new color ready and it turned out perfectly.I highly recommend this kit for those of you who want to remove semi permanent wilder colors!!! With more neutral or normal haircolor, I would still expect to recolor my hair, but I have acheived doable results without recoloring right away. Also, keep in mind that the instructions are there for a reason! It might not necessarily work the same way every time based on the deposits in your hair from various brands and colors of dye!

  • Worked As Expected 5 Star Rating
My natural hair color is medium to light brown and I have been coloring my hair dark browns and then finally black for the past year or so. I tried to color my hair from black to brown and it didnt work, so I tried colorfix. I had to repeat the process a few times to make sure I got all the black out and it worked just as I wanted it to. You have to have to prepared to re-color your hair to the color you want after using colorfix. My hair is a nice looking red after using colorfix and I decided to leave it red for a little while before coloring it to brown.
