LayersIf you have long curly hair or short thick hair it is best to do your hair in layers. If you have frizzy hair you could you could do either. If you have long almost straight hair it is best to do your hair without layers.Reply to this postJan 11, 2010Link to this post

Tip For Relaxed, Black HairFor having my solia for 9 months and experimenting with diffrent tecqniques I have found that the following is the bestafter doing the following my hair is bouncy, shiny and not greasy. It is beautiful.... so anyways my hair is relaxed and this is what I do: first after washing and drying my hair with motions shampoo& conditioner (very good) I then put Motions oil mostirizer in my hair (quarter size)I put Tresseme instant heat tamer in my hair (spray) after spraying it all over i brush it though while my hair is still damp . Then I get a blowdryer and a comb and completely dry my hair (do not skip that step!) it will look worse if you dont blow dry.) I use a very low setting though. Then I get my Solia and seperate my hair into sections and starighten my hair from root to edges. After I am finished I get motions oil sheen and conditioning spray. and comb my hair and voila my hair is beautiful..... I just love toching my hairReply to this postJan 11, 2010Link to this post

Keep Your Hair Healthy!Im a hairstylist and i fry my hair like crazy. to reduce damage in your hair when taking such extreme heat to your hair, its best to use a protein filled shampoo and conditioner, and deep conditioner. paul mitchell super strong works great for that. Using a good protectant like biosilk works well also because the silicone base coats your hair enough that the heat is not thrashing you, and it makes your hair smoother and shinier. and i see it often that my clients are holding the flatiron on their hair more than 2 seconds, always keep the flat iron moving dont let it sit on a spot, which will cause the blisters on your hairshaft. hope these little tips help!Reply to this postJan 11, 2010Link to this post

Hot HairIve been using this routine before I got the Solia straightner. -At first you use shampoo and conditioner (I prefer Garnier Fructise Dry and damaged hair). Make sure you wash out the shampoo before you apply the conditioner. I apply the conditioner and then wash my body, etc. Then I rinse it out and divide my hair into two sections. - When my hair is still wet and divided into two sections, I apply (Pantene PROV hair mask against dry and damaged hair). I keep it in my hair for 25-30 minutes. I then rinse it out with cool/cold water. - After rinsing my hair, I use the towel to get all the water out of my hair very gently using downward motions. Then I apply (Brilliant Brunnette Shine Serum) on my hair and consentrate on the ends. I love that product because it doesnt only make your hair shiny and smooth but if you apply it when its wet it fixes the split ends. - Then you may either blow dry your hair or let your hair air dry. I prefer air drying because you dont damage your hair. But if you do blow dry...dont forget to use hair protectant spray. - When my hair is dry... I separate it into sections. I first divide my hair into two halves (left and right). Then I pick up the top part, and divide that into 2 or 3 sections. First I spray HEAT PROTECTANT spray (Got 2 be smooth and healthy. Its in an orange container) And soak each section with it. Then I straighten the bottom section first I move up to the top and straighten each small section Then I do the same thing with the other side. - After your hair has been straightened, I apply (Brilliant Brunnette Shine Serum) once again on my DRY hair. This makes them ultra shiny and gorgeous. Woila! And its done. My hair looks gorgeous and silky and straight. Oh and by the way I deep condition my hair ALMOST every time I wash them.Reply to this postJan 11, 2010Link to this post

Cooler Setting, No ProductI was concerned about using a hot iron on my hair, so I looked for a product to protect it. There are, in theory, products specifically for hot irons that protect hair to 450F (if you believe the claims of the products): Paul Mitchell and Matrix are the only 2 brands I found who make such a product. I ended up buying the Matrix product called "sleek.look". The problem is, though, my hair got greasy and gross at the end of the day when using the product. Basically, if I use the sleek.look, my hair needs to be washed the next day. But if I have to iron my hair after each time I wash it, that means washing and ironing it each day, which cant be good for the hair. So instead, I use the iron at a lower setting, between 300F and 350F, with NO PRODUCT. The iron does a GREAT job, and my hair stays nice and straight until I wash it again 2 or 3 days later. I occasionally have to touch up my cowlick, but thats all.Reply to this postJan 11, 2010Link to this post
