Natural African American HairI have 3b, 3c natural texture hair. Here are a some tricks that work for me. 1. Dont use a lot of products. 2. Dry hair without brushing or combing until hair is dry 3. Then after hair has dried Blow dry hair with comb 4. Use a dime size amount of Biosilk and then flat iron Products that I use: Ics leave in moisturizer (while hair is wet) Keracares silken seal (before blowdrying) Asheas shea butter (for scalp and hair) Biosilk (dime size before flat ironing)Reply to this postJan 11, 2010Link to this post

Smooth And ShinyAll hair types respond differently to different hair products so the products listed below are ones I have found to work amazingly with my hair type. Trial and error are the only ways to find what works with your hair. 1. While washing your hair using the best shampoos and conditioners for your hair type, remember to keep the conditioner in for 2 or more minutes. This prevents drying or damaging your hair. Also completely rinse out shampoo before you condition. This also leads to drying if not completely rinsed out. 2. Towel dry hair and either use a leave in conditioner along with a straightening product or just the straightening product.(The products that I find work the best on my hair which is slightly thick and very curly is Infusium 23 Original Leave-In Treatment for extra conditioning and either Redken Align #12 or Victorias Secret Straightening Gel. These leave my hair beautifully straight and smooth once completely done. 3. I blowdry my hair with a Conair Ion 1875 watt drier with the direct flow attatchment on it (which comes with the drier) for direct heat and a Christophe large round brush made up of both boar hair bristles and synthetic nylon bristles to help smooth the hair while drying. 4. Either once I blowdry a section or all my hair COMPLETELY(I emphasize this because it is so important your hair is completely dry so no damage is done. Whoever says that you can iron your hair while it is damp or slighty damp isnt true. This causes severe breakage and damage!) I then heat up my Sedu iron to around 175-180 and used the round brush to guide my straightening. 5. Ocassionally people will use a polisher or finishing spray to smooth and seal the hair after, but I generally dont. My hair always comes out amazing after doing these steps, but finishing spray also works good so I never rule it out. Running your fingers through your hair a few times after you are done straightening will also naturally smooth out your hair. Hopefully these tips help because I have never had damaged or dry hair. It has always come out incredible. And like I said earlier, the products listed are for suggestion only since different hair responds differently to certain products, but they have worked so good for me so I wish you beautiful healthy hair in the future!Reply to this postJan 11, 2010Link to this post

How To Use Your StraightenerOk many people wonder how to get beautifully straight hair. It is not that complicated. So here are the steps: 1. When you wash your hair make sure to shampoo and condition. Whether you use a two in one or separately you should condition. *If your hair gets oily quickly you should wash and condition your hair almost everyday because oily hair will not straighten well.* 2. Once done cleaning, if your hair is really frizzy you should put a serum in to reduce the amount of frizz. I personally dont use them but if you need it they help. 3. Drying. Flip your head over and blow dry your hair facing up while using your fingers. You dont need to style it becuase youre going to straighten it anyway. Blow drying upside down helps because it gets alot of the spot we neglect, like our roots. * Make sure your hair is COMPLETELY dry. If not what happens is the iron, because it is flat, just flattens the curl and sets it like that instead of straightening it.* 4. You should turn on your iron for a minute or two while blow drying or before you straighten to get it at the heat you want by the time you start using it. I like to separate my hair into three layers, doing the bottom first top last. When you begin, start at the root and use a round brush or a fine tooth comb as your guide. The round brush is used if you want the ends rounded in or out. See below for tips on that. The comb is used to give you pin straight ends. Keep doing this process and bring down another layer when youve finished one until youre done with your whole head. *The round brush can create ends that are curled in or out depending on direction. If you want the ends to be curled in towards you (my personal preference) you place the round brush under your the section of hair and when you reach the end turn it toward yourself. If you would like the ends curled out place yourround brush on top of the section of hair and turn the brush away from you at the ends. 5. Finishing. Some people do not need finishing but I like it because it adds the shine and silkiness I want from my hair. I use the John Frieda Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Creme. It is awesome. I have also used the garnier sleek n shine and I find that leaves your hair looking and feeling oily, it is better to use while hair is wet. *Either put none or as little as possible product at your roots because it makes your hair oily.*Reply to this postJan 11, 2010Link to this post

Helpful TipsFirst, get a good hair cut. It doesnt have to be expensive (I get my hair cut for about 14 dollars) but make sure that your stylist knows how to deal with your type of hair and that you trust them to cut your hair. When it comes to straightening, I always blow-dry my hair first to ensure that it is 100 percent dry. To blow dry I spray in Infusium 23 and then use a tiny (think M&M sized) drop of BioSilk. I also highly recomend using the Revo Styler as opposed to a regular round brush because the Revo rotates while brushing your hair so you have no snaggs or breakage.
