Tiffany C.Grand Rapids, MIGet The Sedu!!Bianca, how long is your hair? If it's any longer than just above shoulder length I would get the 1.5 inch straightener, but if it's shorter you may want the 1 inch. I have owned the Sedu for a little over two years now and it still works great. I only used a CHI once or twice, but the difference for me is that the CHI seemed to pull at my hair a lot more than the Sedu, which is what causes the breakage. Also, it seemed to dry out my hair even with just the few times I used it. Things I like about the Sedu:
It gets VERY hot, but still doesn't feel like it damages my hair as long as I use a heat protectant (but even when I don't it's not bad). I always get comments on how pretty & shiny my hair is after I use it. I have even used it on my hair when it's still slightly damp without it totally frying my hair.
It seems to take a lot less time to straighten all of my hair than with past straighteners. I have very long (about the middle of my back) thick dark hair that is not super curly, but dries really wavy and frizzy. I let my hair air-dry (so usually wash it the night before then straighten in the morning) and then straighten in sections and it takes me about 20 minutes. With my old Remington straightener (which actually worked really well for a drug-store straightener) it would take me about 45 minutes.
The cord is REALLY long and thick, not like a normal curling iron cord. It's like 9 feet long. A few reviewers have made comments that the cord shorted out on them, but i think they have made improvements since then or I got lucky because I haven't had a single problem.
The temperature is variable up to 410 degrees compared with the CHI that is always one temperature. This is good for people with already damaged or with fine hair because they can turn it down if they need to, but for people with course hair (like me) you can turn it up full blast and I still don't get damage. Some people say variable temp is bad because they think it doesn't hold a steady temp, but my experience is that the Sedu does stay at a constant heat once you set it. I don't feel like it loses any heat at all even after using it for 20-30 minutes.
My family used to think I was crazy for spending so much money on a straightener, but since they've used mine both of my sisters have asked for them for gifts.....I think that's a testament to how awesome this straightener is.
I would definitely recommend it over the CHI, but I would not recommend the Sedu brand hair products, like the heat protector. For that I would still use the CHI silk infusion or Morrocanoil (which is awesome.)Aug 4, 2010Link to this post
