How Do You Begin Rolling Your Hair Without A Clip
How do you get your hair to wind around the wand? The curling iron I use now has retractable prongs which is great because it grabs the hair as you wind your hair on it. After waiting a few sedonds, you remove it with a twist at the end of the wand. This retracts the prongs and you can easily remove the curling iron from your hair. The only reason I am looking for a replacement is that some of the prongs are breaking off it. Wish I could replace it with anotherj ust like it but haven't been able to find such a thing..

On the irons with a clip, the clip is there to hold the hair in place as you wind but though have used this kind on occasion, I sure don't like it as well as the one I have.

      Using A Curling Wand
You actually will wrap the hair around and hold it yourself. That is why you will see a lot of these types of curling wands come with gloves. To try to give you the mental picture- you will hold the wand and kind of drape your arm over your head so it is pointing down to the floor. Then you will wrap the hair around it (careful not to burn your fingers or wrist) and release after a few seconds. Some people also hold it sort of sideways, but down is what works best for me. It takes practice and some getting used to for sure. For a clearer picture youtube it- just put in "curling wand."

I personally like the way this girl uses it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-xdYxtcyeM

      Good luck!

    Types Of Curls???
Can this curling iron make medium and large sized curls as well or would I be better off getting the 19 or 25mm for that? Those do not seem to be nearly as popular and I cannot find any reviews on them. Thank you for any advice!

Curl Was Not What I Expected
I got this and after reading reviews and reading the Q/A and seeing the pic in one of the reviews of someone achieving loser larger curls- this was not my experience at all- I could not find a way to use this wand to get loser curls they were very tight spirals it seems a better wand for loser beachy curls would be one with a much bigger barrel and one that is a consistent width- maybe I am using it wrong but I did try for a good while and I just ended up looking like I had an awful perm- the curler did not even come with directions but with help from looking on the web I found some tutorials with barrel wands- which is also where I saw the large barrel wands seem to work much better for the look I want- even the thickest part of this want creates a very tight spiral style curl- but again like I said it could just be user error on my part- but too much of a hassle for me to learn- I wanted to do this to save time as I was getting sick of doing this with my flat iron- but at least with that I got a much better result.
