Making It LastAs a stylist and consumer for over 10 years using punky colors this is what I have found to work. If your not using bleach to prelighten first , wash your hair with a clarifiyng shampoo or dawn dish soap(cheaper) You want your hair to feel more dry not greasy. Dry = porous and thats what you want so the color will penetrate deeper. When you apply make sure you thoroughly saturate by combing thru. Put on a shower cap and let the steam heat from the shower help it along. Although it says you can rinse in 15 min. dont . Leave it in for at least 30min. Rinse with cool water till clear and towel dry. Now heres the trick... apply a demi-permanent clear over the punky. I use Redken Shades but Wella 000 clear will do. This serves to coat and seal the hair strands so there is less fading and less transfer like to your pillow or shirts. Leave this on for 15- 20 min and rinse well, condition with a protein conditioner and you should have soft hair with outrageous color that lasts.Reply to this postJan 11, 2010Link to this post

Lasting ColorRinse with COLD water.Dont wash hair after intial washing for at least three days. I know it sounds gross but it will help and also dont wash it with steaming hot water the first few times (the heat open the cuticle/cortex and allows color to flow out). For reds, red shampoos to tend to help a little not a lot but some. Dont wash hair everyday every other day, for those of us who cant stand greasy hair (if you lightenhair first it is damage to the point that oils dont get overwhelming for a few weeks), wear a hat or bandana the second day.Reply to this postJan 11, 2010Link to this post

Best For Long Lasting Resultsbleach hair first for best color, shampoo but no conditioner. If you dont like bleach,on clean unconditioned hair pour hydrogen peroxide on hair until saturated, do not rinse, let dry completely. Now with dry bleached or peroxided hair. apply vaseline to face & neck (so they dont get dyed too) and use latex gloves and wear clothes you dont care if they get dyed. apply product throughly. Ok this is the part that makes it really last!! Its a vegetable dye it wont kill you. blow dry it until dry, then cover with scarf or bandana of same color and go to bed (towel on pillow advised) rinse out 12 to 24 hours from start time, but do not shampoo until one week later. (and invest in a good leave in conditioner) rinsing w/o shampoo feels great and lessens color loss in between washes. i left in in for 48 hrs last august on its fading now in march. i have been dying my hair like this for 8 years and still have soft healthy hair.Reply to this postJan 11, 2010Link to this post
