ZakiyaTNPowder Version - Extremely HarshA stylist used the powder version on my hair to lift the black semi-permanent color. I had shoulder length hair that had not been relaxed in about 8 - 9 months (2 1/2 - 3 inches of new growth) as I was transitioning to natural hair. Five weeks after the treatment, I decided to go back to the relaxer. Another stylist (whom I've used over 15 years) applied his normal relaxer and my hair fell out (to the scalp) by the handful. PeHighlights Can't Exactly Be RemovedI've had great results with Uncolor liquid to remove semi-permanent dye. That means, dye without peroxide. Uncolor won't work on dye that used a peroxide developer. Since most dyes have both semi-permanent and permanent pigments in them, to get stubborn color out of your hair you could use Uncolor first, then Color Oops (available at Safeway and maybe here on Folica). Sometimes you have to do it more than once. If you've been coloring your hair a long time or if you've used permanent color, your hair might not come out like it used to be. You might get some interesting or brassy shades in your hair and you might want to dye it again. But I only use semi-permanent dye, and Uncolor does a good job of getting it out. I remove the buildup of dye every few months to get rid of rusty or brassy overtones.
Highlights are made by taking some of the natural color out of your hair, to make it lighter than your whole head of hair. Then usually some tint of blonde, red, or light brown is added to your hair. A color remover product might take away the tint, but your highlighted areas would still be lighter than the rest of your hair. Also this product will only work to remove semi-permanent color. I bet the color in your highlights is from a permanent dye, so you might need something like ColorOops.
Instead of removing your highlights, you could try using a strawberry blond semi-permanent dye on all of your hair. That might make the highlights less obvious. I like Clairol Beautiful Collection semi-permanent dye. You can get it at Sally Beauty and some other beauty stores. If you use a shade that's lighter than your natural color, but darker than your highlights, it will be a subtle change so it's pretty safe. And it will wash out in 2-3 weeks. Carole McgonigalOrange HairI have put a color on my hair and now my hair is orange. Will your product work on getting my hair back to its original color? I had a lot of grey, and I believe that is why my hair turned orange, and also the fact that my hair is auburn, and maybe too that I should have gone to a shop and had this done!
