ZoeWhat You Need To Know About FormaldehydeYes, this product contains Thiazoidinecarboxylic Acid (also known as timonacic acid), which releases formaldehyde under certain conditions, such as those present during the hair smoothing treatment process.
FDA's Advice to Consumers
Skin sensitivity can develop after repeated contact with formaldehyde-related ingredients. When formaldehyde is released into the air it can cause serious irritation of your eyes, nose and lungs. It is recommended that you limit your exposure to products that contain formaldehyde-related ingredients to reduce these health risks.
Read the label. If you're purchasing a product on a retail basis, whether at a store or by mail order, including on the Internet, the product is required to have a list of the ingredients. If it doesn't, please let FDA know. The list of ingredients is required under the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act. Here are some ingredients to look for:
Formaldehyde
Formalin
Methylene glycol"
I highly recommend going to the FDZ site and reading the whole article. After a lot of consideration, I decided to go ahead and try the product anyway. (shows you how desperate I was to get rid of my frizzy hair). I love the results. However, I did experience a lot of the local side effects. I will be sure to do it in a better ventilated environment next time I do it.
When choosing a keratin hair treatment product for you hair you need to be informed. On another page of the goverments website it says:
â??Recent reports from Federal OSHA, Oregon OSHA, and California OSHA should alert salon owners and stylists to look closely at the hair smoothing products they are using to see if they contain methylene glycol, formalin, methylene oxide, paraform, formic aldehyde, methanal, oxomethane, oxymethylene, or CAS Number 50-00-0. All of these are names for or treated as formaldehyde under OSHA's Formaldehyde standard. â??Jan 30, 2012Link to this post

Elizabeth P.Does It Straighten Your Hair?I had this treatment done to me, after washing it is definitely shiny and no frizz but it's not straight! Is it supposed to straighten?Reply to this postNov 9, 2011Link to this post

Teri K.CaliforniaIt's Not StraightNo, the Keratin treatment does not straighten the hair. It repairs and controls the frizz in the hair. The key word "Smooth" nothing in it does it say strighten. If you continue getting the treatment the hair does become straighter. i'm a licensed sylist and i absolutely LOVE this product. Make sure your products are all Sodium Chloride free. That's very important..Nov 18, 2011Link to this post

Ptara F.Don't Waste Your Money, Does Not Work For Wavy, Thick, Curly, Frizzy HairI have gotten this treatments for about two years now and the last two treatments it has not worked at all!! And I get it done a professional salon and pay a ton of money. I have thick wavy/frizzy hair. THe first two/three times it removed maybe 90% of frizz and the waves were gone by 70% so fairly easy to style. THe last two times, the sytlist has used twice as much solution (from 2.5oz to 4.5oz), and my hair is frizzy, no waves really removed. WHen I asked here about it, she said Coppola told her that stress, horomone, water softener, and a slew of other things reduce the effectiveness of the product. Bunch of bull. The real story is that their product had formaldehyde in it and they have removed it and since then th product no longer works. My sister who has very curly, frizzy hairs just paid $350 to get it done, and it did nothing at all!! Her hair is even worse and frizzier than before she did the process.Reply to this postOct 27, 2011Link to this post
