      Keratin Treatment On Relaxed Hair?
Dear Caterina: wanted to respond to your inquiry about using this product on relaxed hair. I am not sure what kind of hair you have, but I would NOT use it on relaxed hair, as relaxed hair has had the bonds broken inside. I do not have relaxed hair, but I had this exact treatment done in a salon. My hair is very fine stranded, but very curly/frizzy and they kept telling me (the salon, and other salons, because I asked at several different places) that this treatment would be "great" for my hair and would remove "almost all or all" of the frizz. I finally had it done in one of the salons where the staff had been trained and certified. This product absolutely DESTROYED my hair! I believe it is the combination of very strong chemical product, very intense protein, and the fact that they use an extremely hot flat iron and go over and over and over each section (small sections, about 1") 4-7 times with the product in your hair. My hair is baby fine, but was never dry. Now it is so, so, dry that every time I wash it, when the shampoo is lathered in, my hair feels like straw and tangles so badly it is scary! The ends feel like straw almost all the time (when wet it is worse), and I always must condition my hair pretty heavily and/or use a leave-in conditioner on top of that to get it to feel sort of normal! By the way, it never got rid of my frizz at ALL, even when it was first done, once I went home and washed it, I saw very little difference in my frizz when I blow dried it for the first time, so it was totally NOT worth destroying my hair over! They say it lasts between 3-5 mos., but it's been about 8 months and my hair is still incredibly dry, and I am so angry! After I had it done and complained, the salon said, "after we were trained and certified and were doing the treatment for awhile, the rep told us "Oh, it's not really recommended for people with fine hair; it works best on very course, thick (strands and lots of hair) hair! Thanks alot! Even if you have course or thick hair, I would not do this because your hair has already been broken down by relaxing. This product is not "gentle" or "good" for your hair! I don't care what they say! It may not have "formaldehyde", but it does have a chemical that is "formaldehyde-like" and just as potent in it! Also, too much protein (keratin or other) is very drying to the hair, and dry hair equals damage! It does not wear out, but has to grow out, so all I can do is avoid any protein in shampoos/conditioners/deep treatments like the plague, and condition my hair like crazy with natural oil based conditioners that are heavy (shea butter, macadamia oil, argan oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, etc.) and keep trimming it and wait for all of it to grow out and get cut off of my head! I also take super-whopping doses of hair vitamins (biotin, panthonic acid, etc.) and put jojoba oil (lightly) on my hair and heat the oiled hair with a blowdryer or flat iron (occasionally). I WILL NEVER USE A KERATIN OR HEAVY PROTEIN PRODUCT LIKE THIS ON MY HAIR AGAIN, AND HAVE TOLD EVERYONE MY EXPERIENCE. If you have course and/or thick hair, and want to try it once to see how it will work for you, I would recommend you condition your hair once a week with a heavy conditioner, and take vitamins and really good care of your hair for at least 6 months prior to trying this treatment. Then condition, condition, condition, afterwards and see what you think. Good luck, and drop a note in "comments' afterwards if you decide to try it.

    Natural Or Blonde
i was wondering what the difference is there between the blonde and the natural, i am a stylist and use the natural but would like to know if there is another way of doing it without buying the two different solutions as they are a little pricey? would you leave it for less time before drying, or if adding anything (water) or ?

      Differences
Per the Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy Training Manual, "Natural is used for normal hair types and single process hair. Blonde is used for bleach blondes, double processed, 40 volume high lift, ultra blonde, highlighted, platinum blonde, white and grey hair." Directions for using each are similar.

"It is imperative to use our pH-elevating Clarifying Shampoo to properly open the cuticle for optimal results. Shampoo as follows:
      • • •
Two times for bleach-blonde, double processed, 70% or more highlights or chemically treated hair.
Two times for normal, single process color and 50% or less highlighted hair.
Three times for virgin, coarse, resistant or gray hair."

Regardless of whether you use Natural or Blonde, different hair types require different needs during the flat iron process with temps varying and passes over each section also varying.

    Hair-loss From The Keratin Complex??!!??!!?
I need advice!!! I just got the keratin treatment in the mail and was planning on doing it myself this weekend. I have watched and heard from a lot of girls that have done it themselves and say there is really nothing to it. I firgured I would just do it myself too. I have long hair and my salon wanted over $400 to do. I just couldn't justify spending that much on my hair. Also, I look at it this way, I understand why it is important to go to a salon to get your hair colored or highlighted, etc..because the stylist goes in the back and mixes up all these concoctions and know exactly how long to keep it on your hair etc. However, doing the keratin treatment is not rocket science!! You don't have to mix anything up, the stuff comes in one bottle. Wash your hair, put the treatment in, blow it dry then straighten it.

Now to why I need advice. I was just surfing the web and ran across a whole bunch of horror stories from women who had the treatment done and are now suffering major hair loss and it has totally freaked me out. Can someone please tell me if losing your hair is a side effect and risk you take when using this product??? Or if I just ran across some crazy ladies??? I have long hair and had it fried from a stylist once before and had to cut all of my hair off and it took me 4 years to get it back to normal. Look at this link!!!!!!! Seriously! This is a big deal for anyone thinking about doing this treatment at home or in a salon!!

Please reply quickly I only have a week left to get my full refund from folica. :)

    Thank you in advance! :)

I Wrote The "hair Loss" Post
      Hi Ladies,

I finally went ahead and did this treatment at home. That's right. AT HOME, BY MYSELF, WITH MY OWN LITTLE NON-STYLIST, NON-TRAINED HANDS! and guess what? it was easy and it worked. Basically, if you can do a good flat ironing job on your hair and if you are patient then you can do this at home and save hundreds of dollars.

I was really nervous to try this at home, especially after finding websites about women losing thier hair and all the stylist telling everyone that only trained professionals should administer the product. I ran across an article yesterday with inerviews from stylist all around America whol all just talk about the "revenue" that the treatment has brought tot he salon. It's a business for them--just a money maker. That's why they say they can only do it for you. In the article the styleist said it was a "no brainer" treatment" and "easy" and you can make thousands of dollars off of 1 bottle that cost $300.

So, you see ladies, it's really just all about the money for them. Now, don't get me wrong. If you have the money or just don't have the time or are not very handy when it come to flat ironing by all means go get it done at the salon.

The process was extremely simple for me. The hard part is how long it takes. It took me for 4 hours with my long hair. I followed the instructions. That's all you have to do. You can do it!!! I never write reviews, but I wanted to get on here for all the girls who need to save the money and can't afford to go to a salon to have this done. Just do it at home!!! If I can do it, then you ceratinly can!!!!!

      RESULTS:

I have had amazing results. It is truely a miracle product!!! I have struggled with the usual, you know curly, frizzing, unrully hair since I can remember. I think we all have the same story. It takes us forever to blow dry our hair and then it takes forever to flat iron it. Now, I just wash my hair ad a tiny drop of biosilk (can't break the habit) and I blowdry my hair with no brush, just my fingers and it goes straight with zero frizz!!! Incredible!! I was so shocked!! I took pictures on my phone and started sending them to people. It was just nuts!!! And my hair still has body! After flat ironing my hair was stick straight but just extrememly flat. Now I ave smooth straight hair but also have body. You know, like those pantene commercials, no joke!
the best part about it is the versitilty. If I want curls I can still have them. Just yeterday I blew my hair dry and them added big boutiful, bouncy curls with my curling iron that lasted all day. So fun! and it took me no time at all.

I'm writing this for the girl who is scared to do this at home. Just try it. If you are really scared get a friend to help you with the back, make it a keratin party. :) you will both save so much money. I bought my bottle for $130 on folica with a coupon code and used half the bottle. That's $65 dollars for one treatment.

      Norcalgirl
Norcalgirl have you tried doing the treatment yet?. If you haven't I think you should try doing a little area of you hair in the middle just to test. If there are any bad effects
at least it won't be your whole hair and if you choose the right testing area you will probably be able cover up any balding etc. I do hope things work out for you if u have tried it. Good Luck. And please keep us posted.
