This was the first time I've purchased ProThik and as a user of Dermatch, was looking for a speedier alternative to my hair routine. While ProThik is fast-applying and easy to do, it's EXTREMELY messy. I had read the customer reviews prior to purchasing, but really think it's much messier than noted. The spray fills the air (good ventilation is a must) and once it has a chance to dry and settle onto your scalp, begins to flake off (which in my experience, is normal for most of these cover-up products). It gets everywhere though; hands, fingers, clothes - and doesn't come off as easily as one customer stated. I had to use a lot of soap and a scrubber brush to get it off my hands. I AM happy with the product overall, despite the mess - since it does a nice job covering up, and it feels lighter than Dermatch on my hair. For the price, it's right on.

After washing my hair, I towel dry it, apply a small amount of hair gel, apray a couple of very lite applications of the proThink, add another bit of gel and then comb into place. I then dry my hair, apply another small another of hair gel to add shine and spray with a good hair spray (Bed Head brand). I ordered the medium brown, which is too dark for my hair. I have had to color my hair a little darker than usual. Next order, I'll select the light brown. The medium brown is more dark brown, so I was a little disappointed in the color. Over all, it's the best I've used. I apply it outside, as the spray makes a mess of the bathroom.

I HAVE USED OTHER PRODUCTS TO COVER MY HAIR LOSS AND NONE OF THEM EVEN COMES CLOSE TO THE RESULTS I HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH PROTHIK...IT'S GREAT. THANKS

1 - I have tried them all, everyone of them and this is the best. But you only get the best results by following my method.
First - I start with a light coat of DermMatch over the scalp.
2 - I take a damp cloth with a touch of shampoo and clean off just the hairline whipe again with clean water to remove shampoo. Then with a clean dermatch applicator, lightly blend forward into the hairline.
3 - Spray a light coat of ProThick onto the scalp, never directly onto the hairline. Spray from the back forward.
4 - after a minute, brush through hair thourougly with a brush, do not be afraid to mess up your hair. It is more important at this stage to brush it in all directions to blend the ProThick
5 - Repeat 4 until satisfied with coverage. ALWAYS USE LIGHT APPLICATIONS It covers more then you think
6 - Buy a spray bottle that has a mist spray and lightly spray water to hair and style as you wish. Once hair is dry, the results should be good.
7 - Usa a light hairspray
No I do not work for ProThick and yes the stuff is messy and requires cleaning your bathroom regularly.
I never apply it clothed. I waite until I am done before putting on a shirt. I always have a bottle of alcohole and wash cloth that I use to clean the hairline, my neck, ears and always have a pore cleanser to clean my face after application. Sometimes before going out I will take another shower after application just to wash the back of my neck and face. but not wet my hair again.
This might seem like a long process, but it isn't at all once you get the hang of it.

I like it that it stays in place even if hair gets wet, the only thing was that I got a dark brown since before I was using meduim brown and it was to light, but the dark brown is to dark, so I either going to have my hair color lighter to use the medium brown or color my hair darker to use the dark brown.

prothik is a fantastic product. ive used it about 4 years now and will continue to use it the rest of my life.its the only reason i appear to have hair in the crown of my head(i really dont) thank God for this product.

Ive used just about every concealer out there for the past 15 years. Most of the pastes or shakes cannot cover my 3 inch bald spot on my crown and my thinning in front. All concealers are messy and vary in effectiveness, but this is in my opinion the most effective and economical of the bunch.I use Dermatch to cover my scalp. After blow drying, I go outside (yes outside) and spray my crown and lightly spray the front with Prothik. I lightly blow dry again and brush lightly into place. The Dermatch is superior for covering the scalp(it is also more water and rub resistant than prothik-if it rains I still have some coverage)but nothing I have used adds the volume to my existing hair as well as Prothik It even does a good job on my crown, clinging to and thickening the thinnest hairs that I did not know exsisted. With the amount I use, spraying outdoors helps minimize the mess you will have to clean just about anywhere that dust can travel.(The light blow drying and brushing releases some into the air)You will need to finish with a good spray because it is not as water or rub resistant as claimed but the overall transformation is amazing. For you men with mild loss, a couple of spritzes will amaze you. For guys like me with extensive loss, I haven't found anything as effective. The worst problem I have is that the nozzles keep clogging and sometimes the color gets very light if you don't shake the can enough or the can becomes too cold.
I have found something that works for me .

The spray covers quickly and well. I have male pattern baldness in the top back of my head . The spray completely covers the spot and it's not noticilble.I do have spray it on every morning , but it it does not take long . There is
some over spray that you have to clean up when you clean your bathroom. But its no big deal. This product works!

I have tried several products for my thinning hair, and have found Prothik to be one of the best. it stays on in water, through sweating, heavy winds, even while at a water park. I have so much more confidence I no longer feel like people are looking at how thin my hair is. the only thing that is not perfect about prothik is on occasion if sprayed to close or if you don't shake it well enough it causes a grey/white film on your hair other than that I would recommend it to everyone and have. Thanks from a customer for life...

This works well, other people don't seem to notice, and it doesn't come off by touching or sweating, but it does by rubbing (it doesn't appear to come off your scalp, but if you sweat and wipe your head with a towel, you get a pretty dirty towel). Works well to make actual thinning hair look thicker, I'm guessing it wouldn't if your hair was extremely thin though.
It concealed what I wanted .

I am a male with male pattern baldness . I still have some
hair on the top of my head , but I have a bald spot of about two and a half inches in diameter in the back of my
head . The Volumizer is the best product I've used so far
in concealing my bald spot . I've read other reviews about it being messy , but I have not had a problem . It covers
quick and fast .

I wouldn't recommend this product if you have more than "crown area" balding, this product gets everywhere, it starts off okay then as the day goes by I noticed it getting on my neck it was all over my collar when I removed my shirt, and the smell is very strong, you have to make sure you use it in a well ventilated area or you'll end up feeling sick from the fumes, I'm returning this product this week.

I really like Pro Thick. I think it is very easy to use. I do hate the mess involved, but I believe the benefits outweigh the mess. I love that I can get my hair wet and it does not run, I don't like that it make my hair feel dry and look dull. I wish I did not have this problem and didn't have to use anything to hide my hair loss, but since I do, I am glad I have Pro Thick.

This product works well if you follow instructions. The old cans that Prothik made lasted forever. These are gone in a week. Be sure to put regular condition over it or the stuff bleeds when you sweat. The old cans did not have that problem. The only improvement with the new stuff is it has a stronger thickener. Makes vellous hair look like chia hair.

I liked this product. Didn't love it, but I'd buy it again before any of the other hair-loss concealer sprays available on this site. The color is nice (I chose light-brown, and it actually complemented my light-brown/medium red/blonde natural shade.
The overspray tends to be a bit much -- you really need to step out of your bathroom for a moment immediately after application. But other than that, it works. Once you brush/style your hair, it feels good (if not dry -- be sure to find a shine spray or just be grateful if you have naturally oily hair like I do, because that's no longer a problem).
I especially like ProThik because it's more water-resistant than most of its competitors -- if it's humid or raining lightly, you won't have product track marks leading into your eyes and down your cheeks in the moments it takes you to put up your umbrella.
It's a good value for the price, and the container is nicer than the one shown with the product. It's a very simple black canister with small gold lettering, so you don't feel compelled to hide it if a guest wanders into your bathroom.

The product does work well on the problem areas. But it is very messy all over the counters, walls, and the floor and everything else. You should use this product outside if you can.

The product definitely works....that's not up for debate. There are a few things however, that purchasers should be aware of:
1) Messy. Turns your bathroom black. if you clean every day, then no problem. if not, you'd better be prepared for a black "soot" like substance all over your bathroom. Again, easily cleaned, but still a major PITA.
2) Cans can and will clog. To remedy this, simply run the nozzle under warm water and use a needle or pin to clear the head.

As a TTM victim (victims pull out their hair, eyelashes etc. Some pull a lot and others only a little.) As for this product, it has been a wonderful help in hiding the small bald spot I have on top of my head. Fortunately, I have been able to keep the pulling down to that one area. If you pull to the point of not being able to comb the existing hair over the bald areas, then this product won't work, only a wig or hat will cover that. I seal the Prothik with hairspray that way it will last throughout the day. The only thing I don't like about it is how it rubs off onto my pillow and headrest in my car. The pillow case doesn't come completely cleaned when washed, so use a dark colored one if it bothers you that much. I have found that the coverage is quick and the bottle lasts a long time. I'm very good at my aim, so I don't have any problems with getting it all over the bathroom walls. It would be very difficult to get it off if that were to occur. I have been buying this product for years and highly recommend it.

I have tried the following concealer products: prothik, couvre, and toppik. Couvre is ok and I still use it as a "base" to mask the color of my scalp along with the prothik. Toppik is ok, but I do not like the application method, (sprinkling), that is required to apply the product. Prothik is the best product that I have used to conceal my bald spot. It is not noticeable if applied correctly. My mother even thinks that I do not have a hairloss problem! I can go jogging or work outside in the sun and it does not "run" off of my scalp. I also use a good, name-brand hairspray to help keep it in place and to style my hair. The only problem that I have with it is that it does rub off on the pillows at night. If they made it where it would stay on even at night while sleeping, then it would be perfect. All things being considered, Prothik is a wonderful product and I thank God, the manufacturers, and distributors for making it available.

I just got it a week ago and, while it is messy, it does a GREAT job of covering the scalp. I dont do the "seperate and lift" I just spray it on like hairspray on top. My hair is about an inch long and it looks thicker than a 10 year olds hair. I ordered 5 more cans incase one clogs.
