I waited a week before writing the review because I wanted to see how my hair would behave after a couple washes. The ONO Curl Remover worked great! My tight curls were loosened and the frizz was greatly reduced (I processed for 20min, used half the bottle). My hair was (and stayed) uber straight after heat styling. BUT the treatment does leave the hair a bit dry... I now make sure I deep condition and use a leave-in cream (FHI Heat Hot Sauce, super awesome!) every time I shampoo. I'll also have to trim my ends. A week later: some curls are back, hair isn't too dry, could use the trimming. I would buy this product again because it dramatically reduces my styling time (even more with my Sedu iron)!! :)
Worked this time!!!

I reviewed below- June 19, 2007. I tried it again, using a new box, 2 days after I tried it the first time. This time, it worked! I left it on 20 minutes. Not perfectly straight, but close! I'd rather have close to straight than pin straight and damaged. My hair is soft and manageable- very happy. And yes- both the before and after photos are air-dried, with no products in there except leave-in conditioners.
It works!

I just purchased this product today, after reading all the reviews on this site for the past two months. I have color-treated hair, so I bought the formula for that hair type. I followed the directions - leaving it on for the maximum time allowed, and used Sunsilk Straigten-Up conditioner after the 2nd step. I then towel dried and blow dried my hair (something I have NOT been able to do without my hair seriously POOFING, FRIZZING and DRYING up to the 80's teased and *big hair* styles). As of the time of the below "after" photo a few minutes ago, I have not yet used the flat iron on it (again, something that was a total waste of my time before using this product). My hair is soft, and while some wave remains, it made brushing my hair easy, and blow drying easy.
I have VERY thick, loose/kinky type hair naturally and have not had a style haircut in some time because most times I just pulled it into a bun, clip or ponytail. I plan on getting it style cut in a few days for the first time in 2 years. Overall I'm very satisfied, and will use this product again. *Note the before picture was taken in Nov. 2006, so the product did NOT alter my current haircolor, it is just a different shade now compared to the after picture.
Wow! Really worked!

I have VERY thick loose curly hair. It took at least two hours if I even wanted to try and get a straightener through my hair. I was tired of frizz and curls. That's when I tried One 'N Only curl remover. I am SO glad I did! The application was super easy, and stinky I might add, but nothing horrible. I also have dyed, highlighted/bleached hair, so I got the tinted kind. It made my thick frizzy ol' hair, almost stick straight. I do still have a tiny bit of wave left in a few sections, but over all..perfection! I left it on for the longest time allowed, and brushed it through my hair the whole time it was on my head. End results are awesome! I now take maybe 10 min to straighten my hair and it's like I'm a new "non curly" gal! I'm sooooooo glad I tried this!!!!!! Yay!
I wasnt expecting results this good...

Life as a teenager is difficult school, boys, and trying to keep yourself looking good.
Everyone morning i would wake up and straighten my hair in order to keep it from getting uncontrollably frizzy during the day. And my curls? They were messy, had no definite shape, and wouldnt hold a hair style without heat being involved.
I was desperate for some change. So when i found out about ONO naturally i felt i had nothing to lose cept 7 dollars.
The results are AMAZINGGGG, most of my curls are gone and without blowdrying i end up with the beach hair look, and for a more sophisticated look i need minimal straightening- its so great!
Sure the scents horrible and application can be messy, but id definately reccomend this product =]
great!

I have very curly hair, all natural, have tried different products and every time it really damages my hair. This is the only product i have tried that actually relaxes the curl and it made my hair soft and wavy. Absolutely love it! And the price is incredible! I am not sure how long it lasts, but I am definately going to buy some more!

About two weeks ago I went to a famous Beverly Hills salon that specializes in curly hair. I had my hair cut and colored and have not been able to do anything with it since. My hair got really frizzy and the cut prevents me from putting my hair up. I bought curl remover a few months ago but didn't try it until this weekend. Curl removed has tamed my frizzies and relaxed my curls. The haircut looks much better now that my hair is not standing uo in weird angles. Next time I'm going to try the stronger version for resistant hair to get more of the curl out. Overall I am very happy with how my hair turned out.

i have really weird hair. my roots are all messed up and are super super curly right at my scalp. the rest of my hair on the other hand is wavy. i loved how my hair would scrunch before, but it would just get poofy since my roots were so curly and poofy. i tried this, attempting to get rid of my awful curly roots but was unsuccessful. it did a great job at straightening the rest of my hair with little damage though. i have learned from this product that when your hair is wet and you comb it straight, thats how it will come out and since it physically impossible to comb my tiny curly roots, i cant get rid of them. hope this helps others too, i kno what a pain curly hair is.
Completely removed perm

I used the curl remover about a week after I got a perm that I really didn't like. The curl remover completely removed all the perm from my hair with no noticeable breakage. In fact after using the curl remover my hair seemed to be in better condition than after the perm by itself. My hair is straight and soft. The curl remover left my hair slightly dry, which is to be expected with two chemical processes in one week, but one deep conditioning treatment easily remedied the dryness and my hair feels very healthy.

One and Only Color Treated is Gentle

This product is a gentle mid level relaxer. Similar to a Rusk 3 product at a fraction of the cost. Be sure to shampoo this product completely out of your hair after leaving on hair for no longer than 10 minutes. Use a good strengthening shampoo to wash it out. Gentle enough to use often. Will not overstraighten hair, will not make hair brittle and dry, although it is reccomended that you use a conditioner afterwards. Great product. Highly reccomend.

Tinted/Highlited Formula on Very Dry&& Damaged Wavy Hair

After the strand test I was really excited, so I proceeded.
I was then freaking out 'cuz I thought my hair was breaking and was going to be extremely damaged. I ended up only leaving in the step 1 for around 10 minutes and jumped in the shower in a panic.
Well, it's the morning after and my hair is wonderful! I still have some crazyness happening around my face, but that's where most of my real "curl" is. The rest of my hair is a very very lose wave and remindeds me alot of the "messy beach look".
Keep in mind, my hair has been through hell and back. It was bleached and double processed and I used a straightener on it almost every single day with little heat protection. Now it's soft and lovely! I'm all smiles!

I left this on for no less than 15 minutes, I washed it out , did my hair and yes it was straight and lovely. It says wait 3 days or so to wash your hair again well I washed it on the 5th day and first thing I noticed was the smell in my hair yuck. I did my hair and no it did not stay straight. It frizzed up as it usually does.
My hair is loose curls, thin to medium texture, hispanic hair. I do not have kinky hair. I used for tinted hair formula. Maybe I should've used a different formula or left it on longer but I am worried of damage. It took me so long to grow out damage from previous years of trying new looks. Anyway I don't know if I would re-do this, It is cheap and it really did nothing to my hair good or bad.
This was done 3 months ago and I can still smell it everytime I wash my hair which I'm not too happy about.

I have naturally curly hair. I am on several different types of meds that have made my hair come in a lot thicker and curlier than ever. Thought this product would help release the curl a bit, but had no luck :(

I was TERRIFIED that this would damage my hair and really it was quite gentle. My hair was a little dry afterwards but after deep conditioning it felt normal again. I have wavy somewhat thick hair and this product did make my hair a little less wavy but not by much. For me the best part was that I no longer had frizz! That alone is why I would buy this product again. I have hair down to the small of my back and it tangles easily so the application was hard for me to do by myself. The product doesnt make it easy to comb and my hair is so long that it was difficult for me to comb straight and smooth like the instructions asked. That may have been why my hair was not more straightened. Next time I will have a friend help me. It would have been nice if this came with a set of gloves.
I bought One n' Only Curl Remover...

I bought One n Only from Sally Beauty and it was the one in the yellow box, where it was supposed to make "permanent PIN straight" hair. Anyway it's the one where after the 1st step you are supposed to blow dry it and flat iron it "pin" straight and THEN apply the neutralizer. Well I've had bad experiences with chemical relaxing treatments in the past, so before using I cut a test strand... that worked perfect! OMG I was so excited.
Then I did everything the same, left it on the until my hair no longer fell out of a knot (and not a moment longer) and then rinsed. Well yet another BAD chemical hair straightening experience. My hair was neither "pin" straight nor nice. It looked like Garth's hair off Wayne's World straight, but not nice, and that was after spending the exact same amount of time blow drying and flat ironing as before. Before it took me the same amount of time to straighten my hair, except when it was done, it looked shiny and healthy and gorgeous. Now my hair looks like dried out straw!
I use hundreds of dollars a year in professional conditioners and products and so it's not for lack of a good moisturizing conditioner. I use a protein treatment to restructure my hair and a moisturizing treatment to try to save it from breaking. I can not wear my hair curly anymore and it doesn't look that good when I straighten it either. Another VERY scary thing is that my hair is breaking all different lengths and to make it worse and very scary is that the roots (you know the little bulbs on the tips of your hair when you pull them out of your scalp) are missing! So either the chemical worked it's way into my scalp and burnt off the roots (and I DID keep the product at least an inch or more from my scalp while applying) or the hair is SO very weak that the hair breaks at the scalp rather than having the tenacity to pull out the root! I e-mailed the One n' Only company for advice (it's part of ConAir) and they didn't even have the decency to respond to my questions. That's why I don’t feel bad at all trashing them now.
Only try this product if you have very coarse hair that will withstand the chemical melting that will take place. I had very healthy, very curly, but fine hair that is now broken warped (not curly, not straight) and ugly.

So I am writing this review to pay back for all the wonderful reviews that you all wrote.I am a white girl with extremely kinky and curly hair. Tight curls. When I wake up in the morning my hair stands straight up and I look like Marge Simpson. Last year I went to a local salon and had a straigtening for several hundred dollars.
My hair was unevenly stick straigt in some areas and not in others. The stench was soo bad that it ruined the shirt that I had on after the treatment! My hair smelled for weeks when it got wet. So I was reluctant to try this but I needed to take care of the new root growth. I took the advise of one writer and had platic clips, paper towels,
extra towel around the neck and shoulders, vasalined my face and neck, a good wide toothed comb, etc. I applied it myself and I can say that deviding the hair is not that simple. I devided it into smaller sections than recommeded as I have thick hair. I think the next time around I will just pile it up and take small sections down. Anyway, I left it on for about 15 minutes tops as I was a bit nervous. I did not want poker straight hair. I must say that it did not have a terrible smell. I used the whole bottle on my shoulder length hair. You would definitly need two bottles it hair is thick and long.
My results where not great but the bit of dryness I had after has gone away with good after care and the tresses although still curly are not as nervous and poofy. The smell washed out and the damage was minimal. And it did not strip my color away!. I think the next go around I will leave it on at least 5 minutes more. So, I did not get the results as good as I hoped but that may be operater experience and timing. The best is that it did not ruin my hair. I will try it again in a few months.

i have african american, thick and unruly hair. idk if this product for me was worth while b/c even though it made the curls looser, my hair was still thick. also, the product reeks soo badly. it smells worse than the relaxer chemicals and i think it might even be toxic. i noe that it felt like it was burning my nose and it was suffocating me. but, that was the worse part. it didn't burn my scalp and it did make it a little bit easier to manage.
