Colorfix did what it is designed to do. Basically, my hair was mistakenly dyed metallic black instead of dark brown. It lightened my hair each time I used it until I got the desired shade. It did not harm my hair in any way. I didn't even have to redye my hair. I am happy someone developed this product for people to use at home. I'd recommend it to all my friends.

Boredom IS a dangerous thing. In my state of boredom, i decided to dye my beautiful dark brown hair black with Natural Instincts Neutral black color. To my horror, i looked goth. Naturally, i freaked out, and tried all the at home remedies... shampooed my hair like 10 times a day, used hot oil, baking soda (doesn't work, don't bother)...
In any case, I found this product, and read the reviews on this site and took a chance---the outcome was amazing.
Here's what i did to remove the SEMI-PERMANENT dye:
I did the shampoo mixture, except i put a lot more than the directions said (i have long thick hair). I did put equal amounts of the two bottles, and then about 1/4 of the total mixture was shampoo. I had already done a test strand, so i was good to go. I put the entire mixture on my head and lathered (the first time i had tried this i hadn't put the entire mixture, and got minimal results)
Anyway, i kept it on for about 45 minutes to an hour, doing strand tests every now and then. I washed it out (note that no color will run out, so don't panic), shampooed, and put on a hardcore conditioning mask.
It took away all the black, and i was left with my natural color, INCLUDING my natural highlights! i think the strands around my face are a little darker than my original color, but the overall result is AMAZING. my hair was left shiny, and as strong as it had started out as...
This stuff does stink, but who cares, just open windows in your house- it's worth it
I sincerely hope this posting helps someone with the natural instincts disaster that i had suffered through!

I ordered this product and it worked a treat, my hair is no longer dark brown, but back to blonde, and it left my hair in lovely condition, I recommend this product to anyone who made a mistake with their hair colour.
It worked GREAT!!!

I have colored my hair red for quite some time now and I wanted to touch it up a bit. I tried a new brand of hair color that was supposed to make my hair a 'true' red. My hair turned a 'true' dark purple-burgundy color! It was a DISASTER! I thought I could do a quick fix and color over it with a product that was supposed to make dark hair lighter. It didn't change it a bit. I bought the Colorfix two days later and did my strand test. I left it on for 10 minutes and then put on the processing lotion. My hair came out a beautiful light strawberry blonde, but it was too light for my complexion, so I immediately colored it with a medium blonde/light brown demi-permanent color. It looks GREAT!!! It looks SO natural and I am truly thankful!
Worked ok

Last time I purchased this I had a better experience because I had only processed my hair once. But for this experience it was removing about 10 bad dye jobs. It turned this cool red after the first try and on the second it turned a maceroni and cheese color. I say, try to remove it once then go to a hair salon. I ended up going back to the color I started with anyways because I tried to bleach it after I removed the color and it ended looking like pee. Overall product good, decisions bad.
Amazing Results

I have been dying my hair the darkest black shades, since 1993. I always wanted to go back to my natural color (very copper) but had been unable to break my dependency on black dye. I read the reviews here and decided to try Colorfix. It worked great! I processed it for 20 minutes and 80% of the black is gone. The black is hanging around on the very ends. However, this weekend, I will treat the ends again and expect to get perfect results! I had tried other products and they always left my hair brittle and orange. I immediately had to redye. However, with Colorfix, I just washed and styled as usual. I bought two bottles of dye as a safety net, for just in case the Colorfix didn't work. I'm taking them back to the store today! :)
I wish I had taken photos to show...

I have been dying my hair black for about 5 years now, and have not had my hair cut in almost 2 years. These years of black dye buildup on my waist-legth hair are now completely erased, and my hair is now back to its natural auburn state (why I started dying my hair black in the first place, I don't know.)
It did take me three boxes over a period of one month to get the dye out, but as I said-years of buildup were being removed, and I waited at least one week between treatments just to give my hair and scalp a break. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the bottle of processing lotion, which I did not use after reading the other reviews here, and it seems completely unnecessary. I did not deduct anything for the repulsive smell, because I'm sure that the smell, whatever those chemicals are, are what makes it work and probably cannot be helped.
Also, my hair was not in the best condition to begin with, dry and VERY frizzy. I was prepared for this treatment to make that even worse, so I also purchased Aphogee shampoo for damaged hair, treatment for damaged hair, and balancing moisturizer. I used the Aphogee products after Colorfix and my hair is AMAZING now. My hair hasn't been this smooth and shiny since I was a young child.
So I highly recommend this product, but be prepared with a deep conditioner, hot oil treatment, or whatever you prefer to moisturize aferwards. :)
Did lighten the hair

I probably either didn't mix this right or didn't leave it in long enough - but although it did lighten my hair it didn't seem to really get all the black out from most of it. I didn't use the third step at all, and tried leaving it on for as long as possible...*shrug* I am happy with the results but was hoping for something more significant.
As good as they said

I am blond - the very plain blond hair. So I went to a salon (yes, a real salon) and they after the second attempt to adding low lights (streaks of a darker color). I ended up with BLACK hair with alittle bit of my blond color. So what does black and white make? You've got it GREY! It was the worse thing I have ever seen.
In seaching for help I came across this product on the internet and call our local Sally Beauty Supply store they highly recommended this product as well.
I did as the directions said and could not be happier. I was a little hestitant to do the processing step #3 after reading the other reviews. But after the first two steps my hair was very light with a slight red tent (the red part was fine with me). So I decided to do step #3 this gave me the results I am happy with, it is darker than with the first two step but looks great (we're talking med. blond with light blond and red highlights) Everything that I read on this product and after talking with the consultant at the beauty supply store I was expecting to have to recolor and am very please that I do not have to. As for condition of my hair I do not believe that this product damaged my hair anymore than it had already been from coloing it twice in one day.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone!!! It REALLY does work!

I had my hair a dark brown/black-ish and had used Colorfix once before. Unfortunately when I used it the first time I also used the processing lotion at the end, which turned my hair dark again. So this time around (after reading the reviews on here) I was wiser and skipped the last step. My hair did lighten a lot - not to my natural color but to a light red with a little bit of brown in it. So I decided to re-color it an apricot (light strawberry blonde) shade. Big mistake! Even though the color I used to dye was a VERY LIGHT shade, it turned my hair completely dark again. Darn it. So be careful how you dye over the hair once your old color is out. Colorfix definitely works (boy, does it STINK, though - think rotten eggs). I am definitely satisfaied with the product (minus step three) but will think twice about re-coloring next time.
Thank God!

After reading every review here, I was praying that my hair could be restored -- I had both professionally done permanent and semi-permanent deep red-brown, with yellow stripes, to cover my brown hair with a little gray (NOT my idea!). Truly hideous effect. I had no idea what my hair would look like when the color was removed, so I wanted to go slow. I used the shampoo mixture for about 20 min (put on the roots last) and it worked great! I now have medium-reddish hair, and the yellow looks like highlights, not stripes.
Not too bad...

I tried this product in hopes to remove the BLACK dye I so stupidly colored my hair.
This is what happend...I tried to LIGHTEN my brown hair, and did such an awful job, it looked HORRIBLE!
So, I decided to dye it black to cover it all up, figuring how bad could it be...
WELL IT WAS HORRIBLE!
So, I bought this product, and it worked to some extent...It took out the black, but left me with the mess i originally had when I tried to lighten it.
Maybe if i did it AGAIN it would work completely, but like i said, it worked halfway for me.
So if you have ONE LAYER OF bad color, then it will work for you i guess!
P.S - I didnt do the LAST STEP at all because of previous reviews...i left it out.

The color fix greatly reduced the "temporary" dark auburn dye in my hair, which had grabbed hold of the grey and acted as permanent dye. It did remove some of the natural color, turning the front, where there was the most dye, lighter than the back, but in my case this was a plus, as I'm trying to grow out natural salt & pepper hair. I did not use the #3 bottle, because of the reviews and box directions that said hair may re-darken. Color Fix STINKS like old fashioned home perm stink. The smell lasted for nine days, through 18 shampoos. I'm talking change your pillowcase everyday stink because the smell actually transfers to the material. So the product works, and did not damage my hair, but don't use it before a function where you will be in a closed room with other people.

i use semi-permanent color from sallys(beyond the Zone color Jam)its a very bright and deep blue color. i used clorfix which the lady at sallys advised to get the color out. i am normally blonde and at first it looked like it worked. then i used the processing lotion and it turned blue again, a bright blue like it was before. so i used it again without the processing lotion and it seemed to work at first. then once my hair started to dry it slowly turned blue again. I have done it two more times since then and always the same thing. i have wasted so much money will not be trying this again. my hair color was semi-permanent and i noticed the box says that it only works on permanent color so maybe that was the problem. who knows but for now im stuck with light blue hair.
FABULOUS!!

I'm naturally a brunette, but have been rapidly greying & coloring (at home) for several years. I *thought* I was choosing my color wisely until recently when I saw some pics of myself and realized that my hair looked...well, artificial. It was too dark, there was no break in the color. I'm not a fan of highlights, not into the striped head look...so I immediately looked for a color remover. One & Only Colorfix came highly recommended, so I stopped at Sally's and picked up a box for $12.99. Here's a tip for newbies that I hadn't considered....when you pick up the box, it DOES NOT include a set of gloves or a disposable bottle or bowl for mixing. If you don't have these items at home, pick them up at Sally's. I have medium length, VERY thick hair so I used a ton of the stuff - it recommends using a shower cap or plastic cap for processing, which I didn't have. I wrapped my head loosely with Saran Wrap (oh yeah - picture that!) and it did the trick. I followed the directions on the box and timed it for just twenty minutes. I DID NOT USE STEP THREE as that seemed to be the general consensus of these reviews. I hopped in the shower and rinsed for several minutes (by the way it does STINK and the smell lingers...). The result for me was a head full of hair that was the color of....butter. Not a horrible color, but definitely NOT my color. I had not expected to return to my natural brunette, but this was a surprise. I had planned to recolor anyway, so a few hours later I used a light ash brown on my hair and the results are fabulous! My color looks VERY natural, the texture of my hair is wonderful, and I can tell that Colorfix got rid of the old color buildup that made my hair looks so gross. My hair looks and feels a hundred percent better! This stuff is great! I will definitely not hesitate to use it again and recommend it to my friends. I'm one happy camper!

Many's the time I, a haircolor fanatic, have committed the crime of overdying, or maybe misjudging the timimg and ending up with too-dark hair. I've stripped a few times with ColorZap, which does the job, though it's not easy to distribute through the hair and you really need 2 boxes for medium-to-long locks. I read the reader reviews of Colorfix and decided to give it a shot, daring it to work its magic on my semi-permanent overdose. Opting for the light duty method with shampoo and no processing lotion, I was pleased with the relatively simple procedure, and though my ends still seem a bit darker than the top, my newly golden brown (formerly dark brown) tresses are soft and shiny. I adamanantly recommend Colorfix for slight to moderate color removal. Hail Colorfix!

I have been dying my hair with Clairol Natural Instincts (semi-permanent dye) for the last 2-3 years with good results to cover some grey. The other day I tried a color hazelnut (medium brown) and left it on a liitle too long. I ended up with jet black hair. Yikes!! It looked awful and I thought OK now what? I tried washing it out will Prell but it didn't make much of a dent. Natural Instincts is semi permanent and says it is good for 28 washings but my experience is that it lasts much longer than that. So I didn't want to be stuck looking like Morticia Adams for the next 2 months. I found this site and read about Colorfix and decided to give it a try. I read the instructions and decided to go with the conservative route mixing equal amounts of Part one and Part 2 with a good shampoo (Awapuhi by Paul Mitchell). I put this on for 20 minutes and worked it into the hair like shampoo . Checked it every 5 minutes to see how it was going and noticed that it was looking more like my natural color ( dark brown with reddish gold cast). Washed it off and conditioned with detangler and condtioner and sure enough it took away the nasty black. Did not use part 3 after reading comments here about it.
So I wasn't sure it was going to work with a semipermanent dye but it did even using the most conservative method (mixing with shampoo). Since my hair is dark and curly I didn't want to over do it and end up with it too light or too orange which is why I didn't try using the full strength mix.
I am really pleased with the results which are fairly close to my natural color.
It worked very well

Colorfix definitely removed the black dye out of my hair. I am normally a light to medium brown and have been using dark brown to soft black color for more than a year. After using Colorfix, my hair is now a brassy red. On someone that has the complexion for this color, it would look fine. But, it does not compliment my skin tone and I am going to use a light brown color tomorrow. After reading the other reviews on this website, I did not to use the processor.
You definitely need to have a deep conditioner on hand to use as soon as you have gotten out all of the black. My hair was very strawlike after I finished two treatments, but I used a protein pack and now my hair feels very soft. In fact, when I touch my hair, it feels like hair is supposed to feel. I did not realize how much color build up was on my hair, until now.
One other thing. I have shoulder length hair and I only got two treatments out of the box. I really saturated my hair for both treatments, which is why I think it worked as well as it did.
After reading all the other reviews, I expected this product to smell absolutely horrific. Although it certainly has a distinct odor, it certainly is not as bad as some of these reviewers seem to think, as far as I am concerned. Anyone who has ever had a perm will think the smell of Colorfix is mild by comparison.

I bought this at Sally's after the recommendation of one of the cosmeticians there. She told me not to use the Processor at the end.
I had used some Clairol Hydrience that turned my dark blonde hair a disgusting dark auburn. I have pale skin tones, and red hair doesn't work. I went to one Sally's and was told that I needed Wella products. Nothing about lifting the color out. So, I bought Wella products to try to recolor what was there. I wasted the money. No change at all.
So, I went to another Sally's. Good move on my part. The cosmetician said that Color Fix would work. She had me feel her hair which she said had had Color Fix on it numerous times. Her hair felt like silk. I brought the box home and looked at it for a couple of days. I was so afraid I would end up with hair in clumps in the sink. However, I bit the bullet and now have a golden blonde. I don't like the yellowish highlights, but it beats red!
The smell was terrible. I thought the sewer was backing up. Even after washing and conditioning my hair, I could smell it. However, the smell dissipated overnight.
Would I recommend this product?? You betcha!
