Product Rating: 3 If you have colored your hair red...
Reviewer: AJ   Wed Jan 09 2008

I didn't see very many reviews on using this on red hair, so I thought I'd share my experience. My natural hair color is an ashy dark blond. (I haven't seen it in years, though.) I have been dying my hair a with permanent-color called chocolate cherry by Feria for a couple years, at least every 8 weeks. It is a very dark burgundy brown. Recently, I really got tired of how fast it fades, and my roots showing after only a couple weeks.
I didn't want to bleach my hair, so after reading about Color Fix, I went out and bought a box. First, I used about 1/4 of both bottles mixed together in an applicator bottle, and left that on for about 50 minutes while blow drying on low for a few minutes at a time. I washed that out and noticed very little difference. So I put more on, about 3/4 of what was left of each bottle, and left it on for another 50 min. to an hour. I didn't use the processing lotion at all. Now my hair is a dark, strawberry blond, copper color. It's not what I wanted, or even close, but my roots are less noticeable, and I guess thats good enough. It does smell pretty bad, like sewage and rotten eggs, but its not as strong as hair dye is. It lightened my hair without damaging it, so now it should be easier to color over.

Reviewer: Kathy from Orlando, Fl  Sun Jan 06 2008

I very seldom write a review but after accidentally dying my brown (brunette) hair total black I purchased the Colorfix product and it worked perfectly. I have colored my hair on a regular basis after it becomes dull and the grey starts to shine thru. On my recent trip to the store I could not find my normal shade of color so I purchased what I thought was similar to give my hair a darker brown with red tints but after using the product it turned my hair black. Thank god for Colorfix which was easy to use and returned my hair to its original shade. I appreciated reading all the comments prior to purchase just so I knew what I was doing and that I was not alone with all my worries. Also, I am thankful that another comment stated to purchase applicator bottle and/or mixing bowl and cap if you did not already have one at home since it is not included in the kit. Great product, it took my tears away once my hair was restored to its original color.

Product Rating: 2 Burns Hair...Stinks too!
Reviewer: Amanda from NC, USA  Fri Jan 04 2008

After reading post on this site, I decided to give it a try. My natural color is ash-dark blonde, and I have been coloing to a medium/dark brown. I had tried a auborn color, and allow it to fade, then wanted to remove and lighten back to a soft brown.

First, I applied product as noted to my hair, and I began to notice this awful smell... MY LONG HAIR WAS BENINING TO BURN. Not to mention turning bright orange so after allowing the product to sit for only 8 min. I immediately washed it out as stated on the box.

After reading the ingrediants of the last bottle of processing (step 3) I noticed it had peroxide. (if memory serves me correctly, that will only enhance the lovely "orange" mane I had presented myself with in the mirror. That last bottle was never opened.

The process began where I had to re-color my hair, this part I am supprised actually worked and accepted the color well. My hair still has that burnt smell with the latest hair dye smell also. I will say DEEP CONDITIONING will be a must, for it really did dry it out.

After years of coloring my own hair - I found that my last effort turned my hair dark, dull black. I made the mistake of trying to apply a lighter color but nothing happened. Did some research and found this product - bought it today and wow! It worked - I am back to my normal light brunette and can apply a natural color tomorrow. Definitely woth it.

Product Rating: 1 I do not recommend this product.
Reviewer: candice   Mon Dec 24 2007

The Colorfix did manage to remove some color from my dyed dark brown hair, but it changed it to an orangy-brownish-blonde color. It looks horrible. The color is uneven and very unnatural. My natural hair color is light brown with reddish/blonde tones. But this product makes me look ridiculous. It's a huge waste of money... now I have to dye my hair again. Also, the ingredients are very bad for you. I did some research.

Product Rating: 3 Does Remove Dye, but Odd Color Aftewards
Reviewer: Diane I. from CT  Fri Dec 21 2007

I am not a colorist or a chemist by any means....am a do it yourselfer, so I read nearly ALL reviews before attempting REMOVAL of color! I took the plunge. I usually color my hair medium ash blonde; sometimes dark ash but not often. I have long hair way below shoulders, and usually just dye my roots to blend it in and keep rest of hair nice and less dry. But it was getting too faded and too light blonde for my skin tone. So I colored my whole head with Dark Ash Blonde two days ago. It came out WAY too dark and smokey colored, with subtle red and green undertones in certain light. I looked so pale with the dark smokey color. So I tried ColorFix yesterday. First did the shampoo option to be conservative, covering with a shower cap, which worked in about 5 minutes (you'll see your hair get lighter by the minute). Wasn't sure if all dye was out, so I finished with an application of parts 1 and 2 mixed together, without shampoo. I did not use the processing step (which is hydrogen peroxide if you read the ingredients). One box was enough for these two applications for my long hair, but I had purchased a second box just in case. It DEFINITELY DOES remove the applied hair dye, but it left me with ORANGE, yes ORANGE, hair. EEEEK!! With my fair skin and ruddy complexion, I need COOL tones, not orange!!! Most reviews here mention being left with orange or strawberry blonde hair and its TRUE, it will most likely happen to you, too. I am not sure if this product does that somehow, or, if the nature of permanent dye is to change the actual color and structure of the hair strands and the result you are left with is orangish hair. This product does NOT return you to your natural color or to your gray, so don't expect it. So have a permanent hair color handy to cover the orange color. So I knew I would HAVE to apply a permanent hair color, but was terrified the orange would show through because I look best in level 7 color (medium blonde) which I figured wouldn't cover the orange. This product leaves hair VERY absorbant to new color, so when I applied a Medium Neutral Blonde permanent color after using Colorfix, it was set in less than 10 minutes, so watch the time!! (I usually dye my roots for 30 minutes or so). So right now I have a decent medium neutral blond color and no orange coming through. SMELL: yes, has an odor of sulfur or rotten eggs, but keep your bathroom window cracked open and your bathroom ventilation fan going and it airs out eventually. I do notice a faint odor in my hair today....combo of the odor plus the smell of the conditioners, but is not bothersome at all. CONDITION OF HAIR & SCALP: After 2-3 applications of Colorfix, my scalp felt OK until I applied the new permanent color - then it burned. So prepare for that pain. I used LOTS of conditioner afterwards - the 10 minute kind, followed by the 3 minute kind, followed by spray-on leave-in conditioner. Hair feels a little dry even with all that, but I assume it will calm down within the week. RECOMMENDATION: Use this if you want to remove permanent medium to dark colors, but prepare to be left with orange or strawberry blond hair that you will most likely need to cover with a new permanent color.

I was absolutely horrified when I saw how dark my hair had come out, I wanted to darken it for a Halloween costume. A month after I had been washing it with Tide (that's what my hairdresser told me to do) nothing had changed. He told me I would have to wait a month or so before he could dye it a tone lighter. I waited and when I went back only my roots absorbed the color...I wanted to cry! I waited about two weeks and was surfing online when I cam across this website...I immediately went to Sally's and bought this product. I did it this morning and my hair is now a light brown and my hair is not in the least bit damaged. Don't waste any more time and buy it!!!I was shocked at how good it worked on my hair :)

I had dyed black hair for about four years, and got sick of it so bleached my hair twice using bleach but this only took it to a dark red still with some black streaks, so i got a few bleach highlights but knew id have to get many more of these highlighting sessions before my hair would be even nearly the colour i wanted which was a dark golden blonde. so i searched the internet and finally came across color fix and bought two boxes as i have really thick long hair. I used the method of mixing one with two no shampoo and didn't use the developer, it smelled strong alright, kind of rotten eggy but i didn't care, after the first go it went to a light apricot sort of color, so i did it again as i was worried it was still a little too dark to dye with the beige blonde i had bought, so i did it once more and it went slightly lighter again, so i said id try the permanent dye id bought and it darkened a little but it looks like a golden blonde with some darker reddy bits underneath, which i think makes it look quite natural. So i can now dye my roots with beige blonde and maybe put a honey blonde toner over it every six weeks or so, and every six weeks get a trim and eventually it will be perfect but its definately heading to exactly where i want it and i wouldn't have had any hair left if id kept bleaching it, so yay for color fix.

I used a Clairol permanent color to lighten my dark brown hair a bit, and instead it turned nearly black... my 4-year-old said I looked like a grandma. Not good. So, after reading all of the comments that everyone submitted, I went to Sally's and asked the cashier for Color Fix. She said not to do it because it'll turn my hair orange. I still wanted to try it. She insisted that I'd just ruin my hair and have to pay a ton of money to have it professionally corrected. I told her that if I'm going to need to fork out money to have my hair fixed, I may as well give this a shot first. She said, "Honey, I've been doing hair for 13 years and I promise you it'll just turn your hair orange. Nothing can reverse a permanent dye." I persisted and bought the box along with the supplies and a good conditioner. I just needed to lighten my hair (which is long), so I followed the directions that said to mix the 1st and 2nd formulas with shampoo, work it in and then strand test often until it reaches the desired color. I doubled the amounts because I have so much hair, worked it in, (said a prayer) and about 15 minutes later I could tell it was lightening up. I rinsed it out and shampooed again, conditioned, and... Presto! Perfect color! It's better than what I was originally hoping for with the Clairol color... beautiful hints of auburn in my original color. What a wonderful relief! I can't wait to show the cashier at Sallys.

ok, i dyed my hair black this summer and loved it, but i get bored with color quickly so i decided i wanted to take the black out and go brown. i've had my color taken out at salons before and it took like 5 or more hours. i don't really have that time, so i figured i would just do it myself. i went to sally's beauty to see what they had. what i really wanted was loreal's color zap, but they were out so the lady said this 'color fix' was about the same. well it sucked. first of all the smell is GROSS! it smells like sewage and rotten egg and anything else gross you can think of. and it's a strong smell. the smell is the only thing strong about this product. it didn't work. i get nervous keeping these kinds of products in my hair too long, so i only kept it in for half an hour. the box says 20 minutes, so i thought id see some result after 30. but no! my hair is still completely black. i have NO CLUE how some of these people's hair come out so easily! im guessing they just dyed their hair. this product was terrible. id never use it again, now i have to go to a salon and get it fixed. booooo.

Product Rating: 5 FABULOUS FIX-IT!!
Reviewer: MrsJoseph2U from ATLANTA, GA  Wed Oct 24 2007

I am African American with a very thick, kinky-curly natural hair. My normal hair color is black-brown, however in an attempt to be a "brunette", I put a permanent ash brown in it. Of course that didn't work. So a few weeks later I tried a permanent honey blonde. At this point, my hair was lighter in just some areas, and lighter at the roots. So I put a semi permanent off-black rinse in it. BIG MISTAKE. My hair came out blue-black...way too dark for my caramel complexion. So, I heard about Color Fixx, and decided to rry it.

I mixed the product (NOT the 3rd bottle), with my fabulous rosemary mint shampoo. I mixed half and half. After that, i applied the product like shampoo and it started working immediately!!! (so i had to work fast!) By the time I was done, my hair was a light orangy brassy color, but it was funky so I was ok with it. But I was prepared to have to put a darker brown over the orange.

After I rinsed the solution and deep conditioned for about a half hour, my orange brassy hair had oxidized to a dark brown!!! I just had a few golden strands (probably from grey). But my hair looks fabulous!! The sulphur smell went away after about 3-4 shampoos. But my hair is soft, silky and back to the NATURAL color I was born with!!! I LOVE IT, this product is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than bleaching OR stripping!!!!!

GOAL: to dye my drab brown hair dark chocolate brown. RESULT: CLEOPATRA BLACK!! Very bad....
Bought this product after reading all the reviews & got busy. I used the partial color corrction on my entire head of hair..I mixed 1 Ounce of #1 & 2, plus an ounce of moisturizing shampoo (Eluence). I am so glad I left it on for only 5 minutes, as it was just long enough to remove all traces of black & leave me with brownish red color, but nothing garish or loud. My hair is NOT damaged in any way and the stinky/offensive smell has disappeared, after I rinsed, shampooed & deep conditioned.
-I LOVE this stuff, and am so relieved that I didn't have to bleach out the black or shave my head.

Product Rating: 5 It works, but you have to know how to read...
Reviewer: Sha La La La from New York City  Tue Oct 16 2007

First, if you have BLEACHED your hair, this stuff will not bring the pigment back and make it dark again.

Second, if you have fried your hair and it was orange and then you died over it, when the color comes off it will be orange again - not your natural color.

Third, if you have processed your hair over the color (a perm, a straightener, any chemical process) then your color results will vary.

Last, if you went out and bought a box of hair color that only DARKENED your hair and you want to remove it, this stuff will do it. Use it as soon as possible after you realize the color is bad. The longer color sets the harder it is to remove. It does not reverse bleach.

Used colorfix and it worked really well but gradually over the next week it went back to its original color before I used colorfix, not impressed at all you can see a little bit of natural hair and I mean a little bit but for me it is a waste of money and time.

p.s. it says on the box that there is no bad smell from the product but it smells like a cross between salad cream, sewage and rotten eggs

and the smell doesn't go away for about two of three weeks

I have had dyed black hair for about a year, and one day I looked in the mirror and realized I didn't like it anymore. I went to the store to pick up a brown hair dye, not knowing that you couldn't dye over black dye (stupid me). I dyed my hair and it remained the same except for my roots. I had black hair and brown roots, greeeeeat. So I figured I had to do something about it. I went to Sally's and picked up colorfix and I was petrified to try it because I really didn't know what was going to happen. I did a strand test with my mom (ALWAYS DO A STRAND TEST!). We left it for 20 minutes and it came out a little too orange for my taste. We decided to go with approximatley 8-10 minutes. When I was done, my black hair was all gone and now I'm left with a medium auburn color with a beautiful light brown shine outside. I think I'm actually going to keep it for a while before I dye my hair again. Now my hair is a really good color and ready to be re-dyed whenever I want. I have almost waist length hair and I use the hair straightener almost religiously, but this product did absolutely no damage. Just keep a deep conditioner by your side. That same night I went to a party and got major compliments on my hair. It was the first thing everybody noticed. I would recommend this to anybody! Don't hesitate to use it! You might also want to skip the third step as I did. The third step brings your hair back to a very dark color. Oh, and it REEKS, which is why I took off a star, but hey what can you expect. If you're thinking of trying it, you really should! :]

I have been dying my hair for about 7 years now I have had all shades of brown, all shades of red and my favorite black many many times. My natural hair color is dark brown, it has been dyed so many times that when my roots start to show theyre a light brown. RIght before trying color fix i had dyed my hair black many many times and I had one inch of light brown roots. I found this product online read the reviews millions of times.. I was petrified to try it but then said whats the worse that can happen? I just washed it out and i was dancing when I saw my results. My hair is now a light brown my roots are a little lighter but it does not look that bad.. it lookes alot better than with the black hair.. I used most of the product and left it in my hair for an hour and a half. I did not use the tone rbecause i like the color it came out.. if tomorrow when its dry it seems to be too light I will use the toner which seems to darken it. I am extremely happy with the results.. I had heard it was impossssiblee to take the black out of my hair.
OHHH and the smell is nott bad at all. in the beginning it is pretty bad but i washed it and put leave in conditioner and now its fine. I would use this product over and over.

Although most of the comments here have been positive, i'm going to have to break the chain. My natural hair color is a dirty blonde, but then one day i decided to go brunette. Permanentely. Big mistake, because it looked absolutely disgusting. It was too dark and too much for my little face. Then i bought ColorFix at Sally's, and decided to give it a try (only after reading all these comments for about 2 hours and a half). So there i go, in the washroom putting the product in my hair. I left it on for a good twenty minutes with saranwrap over my head (instead of a shower cap). Then my mom wanted to take a peek, and by the look on her face i knew it had to be bad. IT WAS BLEACH BLONDE/ORANGE! Now i look like barbie with orange spots a little bit everywhere. I don't know what happened, but it didn't work well. All I want you to know is, DO NOT MOVE AWAY FROM THAT MIRROR!!! Don't do the same mistake I did, this practically ruined my hair and has a awful smell to it. Please, please, make sure you strand test frequentely.
This product may for for so,me people, but hell, it just ruined everything out of my hair.

This product took the black out of my hair to a reddish tone and I was really surprised that it worked so well. However, the smell is revolting and is still lingering on my hair 4 days later.

Product Rating: 3 Make sure you have enough to get it as light as you want.
Reviewer: Laura   Thu Aug 23 2007

I dyed my hair black for seven months. When I finally got sick of it I used Colorfix to get it out. The smell is a little funky, but I think I noticed it more than the people around me. It took the color out and was a pretty copper color. However, when I was finished it darkened back to a dark brown.
If you have thick hair, buy two boxes of this stuff. Otherwise, you may not have enough to lighten your hair to the level you want.
