Product Rating: 1 I don't understand
Reviewer: Tracy   Sat Apr 19 2008

I used this product to remove black hair dye. I was skeptical but to my amazement after leaving it on for about 30 mins. it worked but left my hair an orange color. I used the processing lotion which made my hair brittle and it turned dark again. I repeated the process and it stripped the color again to the orangey color. I then re-dyed with light ash brown which I only left on for about 5 mins. and I have black hair again. Complete waste of time and money. I had really hoped it would work.

I have used this product many times before to get out very dark colors from my hair. Most recently I used it on my dark brown hair and it turned it to a light strawberry blonde color after only one process.

I've noticed, reading some of these reviews, that people re-color their hair shortly after using the Color Fix product and have come out with black hair (in general). You must realize that this product leaves your pores open so they take color in and absorb it quickly which means your hair will color darker than your intentions. I would use a protein filler before you re-color your hair or atleast wait a couple of weeks or if you cannot wait, choose a color that is atleast 1-2 shades LIGHTER than the color you have in mind.

The product does not work at all, and smells bad. It took 5 weeks to get the smell out of my hair.

I have died my hair over and over again and I was already at the point where I thought I would have to cut all my hair off when I tried this product. Not only it really did take out all the color out of my hair, it left my hair light and soft and definitely less damaged. The color came out very nice, and I didn't even have to color it.
I RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!

I've been coloring my fringe, for a while, a semi-permanent crimson. Unfortunately, my hair soaked up the red and would not go back to the (bleach) blonde underneath, staying a washed-out pink. I tried stripping it, but no luck. I found these reviews, talked to the woman at Sally's, and voila! My fringe is blonde again. Yay!

I did the full color correction, applied heat constantly for about six or seven minutes, conditioned well, and my hair doesn't feel fried. I still have plenty left and will keep it handy in case the violet I'm about to attempt turns out badly.

Product Rating: 4 Removes the color, for sure!

Okay, so I had a bit of a coloring disaster, well a couple actually. I tried to do bright red highlights in my hair, hair that was dyed a soft, temporary black. Needless to say, the bright red only showed up on my roots where natural growth was occuring, leaving the rest of my hair black. So bright red roots....dark hair...yuck!!! I panicked, and went out and bought a box of dark midnight black hair dye, slapped it on my hed, and dyed the rest of my hair black. Well, I got sick of dead black real fast. I have a fair complexion and light green eyes, so the black was way too harsh. Plus, summer is coming up; I wanted to lighten. I used Extra Strength Color Oops TWICE and did not have the results I'd hoped for. It made my hair brown again, with lighter roots where the red had been, but I still had streaks of really dark hair running through it. I didn't want any dark at all, so I picked up a box of this after reading the reviews on this site. I put it on my hair and left it on for about an hour, with a plastic bag over my head loosely and did about 3-4 two minutes blasts with the blowdryer ( I really wanted no more black!!) Shampooed, deep conditioned, stepped out of the shower and YOOWWWWWW!!!! My hair is an auburn-ish orange now. Well, no more black. Now I'm not sure what dye to use to cover it; a light blonde or a light brown, because I'm not sure how it will mix with the orange. Might wait a few days to see if the color tones down a bit....didn't touch my natural roots, so I have some natural growth there. I also skipped the processing lotion after doing a strand test and the strand was completely dark again after five minutes. It's an unecessary step really, esp. because the box flat out TELLS you that the lotion may "darken your hair to an unacceptable level again" and make you have to repeat the whole, smelly process (yes, it smells wicked.). Why bother? Just skip the lotion. But yeah...gets rid of the dye, but if you have natural roots they will be showing again, and it will almost certainly turn normal brown hair orange if you had dyed it black or a dark brown.

I had been dying my hair black for 6 years, and red for 4 years before that. My natural hair color is dirty blonde and I just had a baby so I wanted to go back to blonde so our hair colors would match. First I bought 2 of the Loreal hair color remover kits and used those. They made my hair dry and brittle, and removed some of the color, but left my hair like 50 different shades from bleach blonde to dark brownish-red. Then I read a review online about the One-n-only Colorfix product and decided to buy it, mostly because there are multiple uses in one box. It totally evened out all of the colors and made it all a light strawberry blonde. I'm still going to dye it to make it less red, but I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

The only issue I had with it was the smell. It made me very nauseous so make sure when you use this product you use it in a well ventilated area.

I used this product 3 times in a row (left it on hair for about 1 hour each time) to get rid of my old dark brown permanent haircolor and it worked so-so. It turned my hair a reddish/orangish/brown, which I expected. But when I put on a light brown permanent haircolor, my hair turned black again! I had to do the colorfix one more time to get rid of that nasty color. I learned to strand test this time! So be careful if you are going to recolor, do a strand test first because your hair can return to its old color. I had to go to a salon to get me to a very light brown. They had to get my hair more discolored plus put on a soap bleach cap to get it to orange. Also, if you're trying to go lighter and your hair is colored dark, you probably will need a soap bleach cap or more in addition to the color remover. I found this new color remover called vanish color remover and I'm going to try it next time when I decide to go blonde. Right now I'm giving my hair a break. COlorfix is OK, but it could be better.

OMG!!!
Please use this. I had done my hair soft black only to soon realize that I looked terrible. I'm a light hispanic, so I assumed it would look nice. Wrong! So for a month I looked and searched for something other than bleach, since my hair is not long enough to cut out the damage. I found this and bought it instantly. It definitely took the black out, now my hair is redish brownish but better than black. So now I'm in the process of doing it plain brown.

I tend to dye my hair a lot. For a while, I was a light brown with blonde highlights but then, the winter season came along and, since I was working at the cosmetics section of Dillard's, I fell into the awful "Black Hair" fashion. I kept it up but after a while, my tan disappeared and I was back in my high school freshman gothic days (I'm now a college sophomore). I just wanted my old light brown color back so I tried to die over it but no! I was now a halloween nightmare of orange and black spots!!!

I went to the salon and spent $112 dollars (that's with a discount) to try and even out the tone. After stripping it and dying over, it still looked the same.

So, I got this colorfix stuff and prayed to God it wouldn't make my hair fall out. My hair came out beautiful!!! It was kind of orange-y but I was very fond of it. I dyed over it anyway to even out the color but this time, I used the 28-washes Natural Instincts dye. My hair is back to natural and I'm going to stick with Clairol.

PS - I went to several stylists and they all told me I'd have to wait for the black to grow out. Bull Sh*. Instead of paying someone $250 to screw up your hair, spend $20 on this box to fix it.

This stuff is utter s*. I used it 2 days ago and its gone back to the black colour it was.

Don't bother wasting your money....especially if you live in england and have to spend about £25 just to ship it.

This stuff didnt change my hair colour at all. I've been dying it black for a while now and wanted a change. After all the reviews i read on here i thought it would work on me, as my hair takes products quite well. I live in the uk and had to spend a lot of money to get the item to me.
Quite upset it didnt work :(

I have been dying my hair blonde now for the past 4 years, and i was starting to get bored of it. So i decided that i wanted to put thin black streaks in my hair..and i was going to do it myself. The result was thick, uneven chunks of black in my hair, it was a mess. My friends decided they were guuna help me by making the streaks my even, BIG Mistake, it just made it even worse, so the only option i had left was to dye all my hair jet black. I tried to like my new black hair, but it didnt suit me. I researched and came across the product color fix, went out a bought it, and its AMAZING!! The black came completely out, and i was left with my natural light brown hair color, and my hair feels so soft and undamaged.
Just follow the directions, but skip the last process.
Good Luck

Reviewer: Kitty from NC  Thu Mar 06 2008

I am a cosmetologist and have colored my hair red, auburn, copper for years. I decided to start using Henna but wanted the years of color out. I used 1 box but did 2 20 minute treatments. I am surprised and satisfied with the results. I whish I had taken pic's. My hair went from an nice copper (6R/O) to level Strawberry blond. My husband wants me to keep it like it is he say's it look's "Summery". My hair is long and the hair felt harsh at first but a good conditioning treatment made it feel better, nothing unusual for the beating it takes from monthly coloring then the colorfix. I would recommend this over bleach or color remover.

Reviewer: Atlanta from Georgia  Thu Mar 06 2008

This is day 2 following my use of Colorfix. I waited a bit to be sure of the outcome.

On Monday I decided to have my hair (professionally) colored to match my natural hair color. I had had more than a year of blonde highlights added to my naturally strawberry blonde hair. I never kept up with them and it looked awful. So I decided it was time to be done with them once and for all. Dying my hair to its natural shade seemed just the thing. And it would be done by a professional!

Argh. The colorist disagreed with me on the color and it was much darker than my natural color. In fact, it was more of a purple-red, in my opinion. I cried. Husband hated it. I cried more.

I researched for HOURS a way to fix this (after calling the salon, after which I was informed that they could not take me until Friday). I found reviews about Colorfix Tuesday, spent well over an hour reading them ALL, and stopped by Sally Beauty Supply on my way home and purchased it. I used it that night as soon as I got home.

I was so nervous!

After about 15 minutes I rinsed. I checked pieces to "test" but couldn't tell, so I rinsed. Then shampooed and dried. (I did not use the toner).

My hair was my original, natural color. All red removed, all blonde highlights removed. I'm just me.

Thanks, Colorfix.

Flat out, this stuff works. When I bought it, I didn't think it would be effective at taking out the permanent black boxed dye out of my naturally light brown hair. I was told that stripping the color professionally would be expensive and time consuming, so I opted to try this first. I was amazed at how quickly and effectively this product took the dark dye out of my hair. I left this stuff in for 55 minutes, checking it about every 5 minutes, and when I rinsed and dried my hair, it was a lovely strawberry blonde color. Like other reviewers, I skipped the toning lotion at the end because I didn't want my hair to re-darken. This product works flawlessly and didn't leave any noticable damage to my hair, although the odor is very upleasant. I'd recommend anyone using this product to buy gloves and a high protein, low pH conditioner to use after application. Also, I would adivse anyone to wait about a week after using Colorfix to dye their hair. I would recommend this prouduct to anyone. I'm extremely pleased with it, especially at its low price.

I used Color Fix twice. This last time, I used Natural Instincts Natural Medium Cool Brown to take some of the red tones out of my lightening hair . . . whoa, daddy, big mistake. My hair went a muddy, flat, dark brown - almost black. Icky icky poo! So, off to Sally's Beauty Supply I went. I did the short version - 1/4 oz each of the products (no toner) with 1 oz of clarifying shampoo. Four (yes, 4) minutes later, I washed everything out and dried it to see the results. Hot diggity dog, just the color it was SUPPOSED to have turned out! A nice medium brown, not too much on the red highlights, but just enough to look fairly natural. I put the rest of the product in the linen closet in case of future emergencies. (By the way, the first time, I did the full kit and kaboodle, 40 minutes, ended up with really light strawberry blond hair, re-colored with a dark blonde and was happy.) My hair in in good condition with a nice shine. I highly recommend this product -- just read the directions and keep an eye on your hair! Much love to all my fellow hair color disaster sisters!

I read the reviews on this product and felt very keen to give it a go although I didnt feel very optimistic about the results I decided to give it a go, after 50 minutes I was shocked to find red/brown hair rather than the horrid black I had been for a year. I live in the UK so postage charges are high but I bought enough to last me in case I make any more colour mistakes!!! try it its great.

Had to be a bridesmaid, thought a gentle semi light brown would be nice the day before the wedding. Stupid, dare I say it, possibly possessed by Satan hairdresser managed to dye my hair black. This was possibly the worst experience of my life, and I once had a brain haemmorhage, so I don't speak lightly. I looked utterly hideous. Even my scalp was black. No time to get it fixed before the wedding. Have burned any photo of the event with me in it. Tried everything to get the dye out. Hairdresser said, oh dear, we'll have to strip your hair and it will take the best part of a day to get it back to something approaching normal and it will ruin your hair. Also said it wasn't their fault. Yeah, right. I was too emotionally shattered to argue. Found Colorfix on the internet, because there is nothing like this available in Australia. Gave it a whirl.
Didn't leave it on very long and used the shampoo method because I don't think I could cope with another hair disaster. It's OK. Nice auburn (alright, red) highlights on the old mousy brown near original colour. How I love mousy brown hair. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Colorfix.
