I was absolutely horrified when I saw how dark my hair had come out, I wanted to darken it for a Halloween costume. A month after I had been washing it with Tide (that's what my hairdresser told me to do) nothing had changed. He told me I would have to wait a month or so before he could dye it a tone lighter. I waited and when I went back only my roots absorbed the color...I wanted to cry! I waited about two weeks and was surfing online when I cam across this website...I immediately went to Sally's and bought this product. I did it this morning and my hair is now a light brown and my hair is not in the least bit damaged. Don't waste any more time and buy it!!!I was shocked at how good it worked on my hair :)

I had dyed black hair for about four years, and got sick of it so bleached my hair twice using bleach but this only took it to a dark red still with some black streaks, so i got a few bleach highlights but knew id have to get many more of these highlighting sessions before my hair would be even nearly the colour i wanted which was a dark golden blonde. so i searched the internet and finally came across color fix and bought two boxes as i have really thick long hair. I used the method of mixing one with two no shampoo and didn't use the developer, it smelled strong alright, kind of rotten eggy but i didn't care, after the first go it went to a light apricot sort of color, so i did it again as i was worried it was still a little too dark to dye with the beige blonde i had bought, so i did it once more and it went slightly lighter again, so i said id try the permanent dye id bought and it darkened a little but it looks like a golden blonde with some darker reddy bits underneath, which i think makes it look quite natural. So i can now dye my roots with beige blonde and maybe put a honey blonde toner over it every six weeks or so, and every six weeks get a trim and eventually it will be perfect but its definately heading to exactly where i want it and i wouldn't have had any hair left if id kept bleaching it, so yay for color fix.

I used a Clairol permanent color to lighten my dark brown hair a bit, and instead it turned nearly black... my 4-year-old said I looked like a grandma. Not good. So, after reading all of the comments that everyone submitted, I went to Sally's and asked the cashier for Color Fix. She said not to do it because it'll turn my hair orange. I still wanted to try it. She insisted that I'd just ruin my hair and have to pay a ton of money to have it professionally corrected. I told her that if I'm going to need to fork out money to have my hair fixed, I may as well give this a shot first. She said, "Honey, I've been doing hair for 13 years and I promise you it'll just turn your hair orange. Nothing can reverse a permanent dye." I persisted and bought the box along with the supplies and a good conditioner. I just needed to lighten my hair (which is long), so I followed the directions that said to mix the 1st and 2nd formulas with shampoo, work it in and then strand test often until it reaches the desired color. I doubled the amounts because I have so much hair, worked it in, (said a prayer) and about 15 minutes later I could tell it was lightening up. I rinsed it out and shampooed again, conditioned, and... Presto! Perfect color! It's better than what I was originally hoping for with the Clairol color... beautiful hints of auburn in my original color. What a wonderful relief! I can't wait to show the cashier at Sallys.

ok, i dyed my hair black this summer and loved it, but i get bored with color quickly so i decided i wanted to take the black out and go brown. i've had my color taken out at salons before and it took like 5 or more hours. i don't really have that time, so i figured i would just do it myself. i went to sally's beauty to see what they had. what i really wanted was loreal's color zap, but they were out so the lady said this 'color fix' was about the same. well it sucked. first of all the smell is GROSS! it smells like sewage and rotten egg and anything else gross you can think of. and it's a strong smell. the smell is the only thing strong about this product. it didn't work. i get nervous keeping these kinds of products in my hair too long, so i only kept it in for half an hour. the box says 20 minutes, so i thought id see some result after 30. but no! my hair is still completely black. i have NO CLUE how some of these people's hair come out so easily! im guessing they just dyed their hair. this product was terrible. id never use it again, now i have to go to a salon and get it fixed. booooo.

Product Rating: 5 FABULOUS FIX-IT!!
Reviewer: MrsJoseph2U from ATLANTA, GA  Wed Oct 24 2007

I am African American with a very thick, kinky-curly natural hair. My normal hair color is black-brown, however in an attempt to be a "brunette", I put a permanent ash brown in it. Of course that didn't work. So a few weeks later I tried a permanent honey blonde. At this point, my hair was lighter in just some areas, and lighter at the roots. So I put a semi permanent off-black rinse in it. BIG MISTAKE. My hair came out blue-black...way too dark for my caramel complexion. So, I heard about Color Fixx, and decided to rry it.

I mixed the product (NOT the 3rd bottle), with my fabulous rosemary mint shampoo. I mixed half and half. After that, i applied the product like shampoo and it started working immediately!!! (so i had to work fast!) By the time I was done, my hair was a light orangy brassy color, but it was funky so I was ok with it. But I was prepared to have to put a darker brown over the orange.

After I rinsed the solution and deep conditioned for about a half hour, my orange brassy hair had oxidized to a dark brown!!! I just had a few golden strands (probably from grey). But my hair looks fabulous!! The sulphur smell went away after about 3-4 shampoos. But my hair is soft, silky and back to the NATURAL color I was born with!!! I LOVE IT, this product is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than bleaching OR stripping!!!!!

GOAL: to dye my drab brown hair dark chocolate brown. RESULT: CLEOPATRA BLACK!! Very bad....
Bought this product after reading all the reviews & got busy. I used the partial color corrction on my entire head of hair..I mixed 1 Ounce of #1 & 2, plus an ounce of moisturizing shampoo (Eluence). I am so glad I left it on for only 5 minutes, as it was just long enough to remove all traces of black & leave me with brownish red color, but nothing garish or loud. My hair is NOT damaged in any way and the stinky/offensive smell has disappeared, after I rinsed, shampooed & deep conditioned.
-I LOVE this stuff, and am so relieved that I didn't have to bleach out the black or shave my head.

Product Rating: 5 It works, but you have to know how to read...
Reviewer: Sha La La La from New York City  Tue Oct 16 2007

First, if you have BLEACHED your hair, this stuff will not bring the pigment back and make it dark again.

Second, if you have fried your hair and it was orange and then you died over it, when the color comes off it will be orange again - not your natural color.

Third, if you have processed your hair over the color (a perm, a straightener, any chemical process) then your color results will vary.

Last, if you went out and bought a box of hair color that only DARKENED your hair and you want to remove it, this stuff will do it. Use it as soon as possible after you realize the color is bad. The longer color sets the harder it is to remove. It does not reverse bleach.

Used colorfix and it worked really well but gradually over the next week it went back to its original color before I used colorfix, not impressed at all you can see a little bit of natural hair and I mean a little bit but for me it is a waste of money and time.

p.s. it says on the box that there is no bad smell from the product but it smells like a cross between salad cream, sewage and rotten eggs

and the smell doesn't go away for about two of three weeks

I have had dyed black hair for about a year, and one day I looked in the mirror and realized I didn't like it anymore. I went to the store to pick up a brown hair dye, not knowing that you couldn't dye over black dye (stupid me). I dyed my hair and it remained the same except for my roots. I had black hair and brown roots, greeeeeat. So I figured I had to do something about it. I went to Sally's and picked up colorfix and I was petrified to try it because I really didn't know what was going to happen. I did a strand test with my mom (ALWAYS DO A STRAND TEST!). We left it for 20 minutes and it came out a little too orange for my taste. We decided to go with approximatley 8-10 minutes. When I was done, my black hair was all gone and now I'm left with a medium auburn color with a beautiful light brown shine outside. I think I'm actually going to keep it for a while before I dye my hair again. Now my hair is a really good color and ready to be re-dyed whenever I want. I have almost waist length hair and I use the hair straightener almost religiously, but this product did absolutely no damage. Just keep a deep conditioner by your side. That same night I went to a party and got major compliments on my hair. It was the first thing everybody noticed. I would recommend this to anybody! Don't hesitate to use it! You might also want to skip the third step as I did. The third step brings your hair back to a very dark color. Oh, and it REEKS, which is why I took off a star, but hey what can you expect. If you're thinking of trying it, you really should! :]

I have been dying my hair for about 7 years now I have had all shades of brown, all shades of red and my favorite black many many times. My natural hair color is dark brown, it has been dyed so many times that when my roots start to show theyre a light brown. RIght before trying color fix i had dyed my hair black many many times and I had one inch of light brown roots. I found this product online read the reviews millions of times.. I was petrified to try it but then said whats the worse that can happen? I just washed it out and i was dancing when I saw my results. My hair is now a light brown my roots are a little lighter but it does not look that bad.. it lookes alot better than with the black hair.. I used most of the product and left it in my hair for an hour and a half. I did not use the tone rbecause i like the color it came out.. if tomorrow when its dry it seems to be too light I will use the toner which seems to darken it. I am extremely happy with the results.. I had heard it was impossssiblee to take the black out of my hair.
OHHH and the smell is nott bad at all. in the beginning it is pretty bad but i washed it and put leave in conditioner and now its fine. I would use this product over and over.

Although most of the comments here have been positive, i'm going to have to break the chain. My natural hair color is a dirty blonde, but then one day i decided to go brunette. Permanentely. Big mistake, because it looked absolutely disgusting. It was too dark and too much for my little face. Then i bought ColorFix at Sally's, and decided to give it a try (only after reading all these comments for about 2 hours and a half). So there i go, in the washroom putting the product in my hair. I left it on for a good twenty minutes with saranwrap over my head (instead of a shower cap). Then my mom wanted to take a peek, and by the look on her face i knew it had to be bad. IT WAS BLEACH BLONDE/ORANGE! Now i look like barbie with orange spots a little bit everywhere. I don't know what happened, but it didn't work well. All I want you to know is, DO NOT MOVE AWAY FROM THAT MIRROR!!! Don't do the same mistake I did, this practically ruined my hair and has a awful smell to it. Please, please, make sure you strand test frequentely.
This product may for for so,me people, but hell, it just ruined everything out of my hair.

HI can i just say i dyed my hair black about a year ago and was putting in maybe 1 every 3 weeks! about 3 months ago i stopped and was washing it with cheap shampoos and head and shoulders to try strip as much colour as possible! as you can imagine the balck went very dull and and my own natural colour from my roots were gettign longer and longer!! well i searched the net and came across this i was so xcited and had to order from belfast northern ireland! so cost be about £27 pounds 55 u.s dollars. well i thought id try the directions 1 of the reviewers gave rathe rthan the boxes because they said ti really worked this was 1oz colour reducer 1oz colour catalyst to 2oz good shampoo mixed well and applied to my hair (by my sister as she would beable to reach all areas) as quick as possible and left it on for 45 minutes! well once rinsed out and shampooed and blow dryed the only difference was a slight reddish patch at roots of my hair of baout 1 inch i was so dissappointed so decided to try the boxes instructions this time mixing 2oz of each no shampoo and left it on for 20 mins and added low heat setting on hair dryer for 5 mins!! again shampooed out and blow dryed seems my own natural roots have gone shade darker and i have a few slight reddish bits thry my hair and this only really noticable if ina pony tail and i would point it out! so very very dissapointed as obviously goin by reviews on here its worked for nearly everybody!! and not me!! as for the smell its not bad bad but does take few washed git rid of it!! i dont want to risk doin it again as it did dry my hair a fair bit though ive been using hot oils and expensive conditioner from did it and its nearly back to healthy!!! my advice seek professional help!!

This product took the black out of my hair to a reddish tone and I was really surprised that it worked so well. However, the smell is revolting and is still lingering on my hair 4 days later.

I dyed my hair black for seven months. When I finally got sick of it I used Colorfix to get it out. The smell is a little funky, but I think I noticed it more than the people around me. It took the color out and was a pretty copper color. However, when I was finished it darkened back to a dark brown.
If you have thick hair, buy two boxes of this stuff. Otherwise, you may not have enough to lighten your hair to the level you want.

Reviewer: zero347   Mon Aug 20 2007

I had been dying my hair black with drugstore dye for about two years and lately it had started to look horrible due to so many layers of the dark color that there were no highlights left. I mean, it was pitch, gothic Elvira black with green undertones. I had even asked several stylists and been told that there was no way to remove all that black without bleaching my hair until it fell out. Out of desperation, I decided to try this product and was pleasantly surpised with the result.

This product not only took most of the black out of my hair turning it a dark auburn, but it did so without causing really any damage. A little conditioner and it was good to go. Now to be fair, I did use only one bottle on almost waist length hair and so it did not pull all the color out completely evenly. However, the dark areas came out looking like lowlights and the result was honestly something that looked like it had been done on purpose. I had read the reviews and was worried about the smell but it was honestly no worse than any other dye or chemical service. In all I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking to pull black dye out of their hair. I wish I had found it sooner.

I do not recommend this product to any one. It is the worst smelling thing ever. I was trying to decide whether it smelled like horse poop or sewer! The smell lingered for 2 weeks on my self and my bathroom. It takes off some of the color, but not all so if your hair is over processed don't even bother.

Product Rating: 5 Didn't hurt my perm!
Reviewer: Julie from Lake Balboa, CA  Sat Aug 04 2007

I have permed, colored hair. My last trip to a stylist ( a new one, my regular girl was out of town) I only got a trim and had him "refresh" my color with a semi-permanent glaze. He left the glaze in WAY too long and under heat, so the 'honey-auburn' color I was looking for came out about 6 shades too dark. After about a week (I had hoped that it would fade a bit if I used clarifying shampoo) it was still a dark reddish-chocolate color. So after reading these reviews, I went to Sally and bought One'N'Only ColorFix.

I mixed equal parts conditioning shampoo, part 1 & part 2 in a applicator bottle and applied it to my damp hair and worked it into a lather with gloves. I put on a plastic cap and left it in for about 4-5 minutes only, all the while working the lather around through the cap to make sure it was evenly applied. I rinsed thoroughly, then shampooed with deep moisturizing shampoo and then conditioned with Ion Color Solutions Color Defense After Color Sealing Treatment and put a fresh plastic cap on to let the conditioner really work (bonus - the Ion helped neutralize the chemical-butt-smell from the ColorFix).

The ColorFix took just enough of the dark glaze out to leave me with a nice, toffee-colored auburn -- it removed the chocolate dark brown evenly and there are no splotches or other color issues. It did not relax or otherwise frizz out my perm, although my hair is more dried-out than it was prior to using the ColorFix. I only used about a tablespoon of Part1 & Part 2, so I have about 4-5 more applications left, in case my color comes out funky again in the future. I did not use the Part 3 Processing Lotion. After reading all the reviews and tips, I was afraid that it would re-darken my hair or do somthing awful to my month-old perm.

A great product!

Product Rating: 2 If you have BOXED BLACK hair dye on your hair, PLEASE READ!!
Reviewer: pinklotus from Birmingham, AL  Wed Aug 01 2007

If you have black hair dye on your hair and it came from a BOX (feria, garnier, loreal, etc.) then this product will NOT remove the dye from your hair. If you dyed your hair black at a salon, it might work ok. There is a difference, black dye from the box has metals in it and they are virtually impossible to strip. I used colorfix on my hair that was dyed jet black with garnier over several months. Before putting the black on I had medium brown virgin hair. I used some loreal hair dye remover from walmart at first (peroxide, basically) and it made my roots a brassy orange but didn't touch the black. I then did six applications of colorfix over two days and the roots stayed brassy and the rest stayed...jet black. Virtually no change. If you're in the same situation, you have 3 options: wait till it grows out, keep dying it black, or go to a salon. I went to a salon and it took them 5 hours to get the black out and turn it sunset orange (which they colored over with brown). And this was with 2 rounds of the most powerful developer and bleach they had. DO NOT try the bleaching yourself. It will not go off without a hitch and you will still have to go to a salon unless you've managed to fry your hair to the point where it all falls out. The color specialists I saw said I was actually one of the lucky ones, that they had seen a girl with boxed black on her hair, applied straight bleach, and it did not touch the black. All of this plus a cut was pretty reasonable, about 150 at a reasonably priced salon. So don't waste your time or money. Learn from my mistake!!!
