Product Rating: 4 Color Fix
Reviewer: Christina from New York  Wed Feb 13 2008

This stuff really works, I had dyed my hair a dark brown a long time ago and whenever I dye my hair the lengths always come out dark and the roots very light. I went to get my color evened out and hilights at a salon and it turned out black!! I used the color fix and the first time it did take out alot of the black color and looked red at first. After a few washes all of the color come out, but the hilights stayed in. It smells really bad, and it takes a few washing to get the smell out, even after that your hair might smell when it gets wet, but it will go away. The main thing is it works.

This is the best product I have used to remove unwanted hair color. It is not perfect and that explains the good rating. I have never noticed any hair damage and the only negative is the strong after odor.

Reviewer: Anonymous from USA  Mon Feb 11 2008

My teenaged daughter used a "temporary" black hair dye on her blonde hair. It didn't even turn out black.. just a variety of dark browns which never washed out. Beauty salon said there was nothing they could do except color it the darkest of the brown colors, but I saw this product and thought I'd give it a go. This product says it's for permanent hair dye, so perhaps thats why it didn't remove the... erm, mistake. Glad it works for some; this product didn't work for us.

About One year ago I had my natural auburn hair, very pretty. I wanted highlights all the way through my hair and got a full highlight. In the fall, I didn't think it was dramatic enough and went and got my hair done and they did the Kelly Clarkson look - with dark hair, blonde and red highlights. Very cool for fall. Then for a touch up, I just wanted to be more natural dark, no more 'red red' highlights. They did the touchup and all over color (the color was DEMI permanant). Since it came out way to dark for my skin, I went back a couple days later to the salon and got highlights. I ended up with skunk streaks, not to mention that when I was blow drying my hair, some hair was coming out.
Then I went, because the highlights were too bright (and wouldn't take the toner at the salon because it was too bleached out) and got a semi permanant level 6 BG (blonde gold). It went over the highlights very nicely. :) I was happy but then the dark underneath after a few weeks became a lifeless dull muddy color. YUK. It was so harsh against my skin and I was unhappy. Since the semi color came out of my highlights, I did that again - which made the contrast between the two not so bad, (my highlights were no longer blonde but rather a light brown color) but the dark underneath was still too much.
Then I found colorfix. Read all the reviews - got the product, and did a test strand. After 30 min, the color was lifted to a dark auburn and you could see my natural shiny highlights glimmering. I was sooo afraid it would turn orange. Very nice.
That evening, yesterday, I put it on my whole head. I mixed half of the first two bottles and spread it on my head. Lower hair (darker) first - getting the roots first and then working my way up towards the roots. I had it on for 40 min.

PROCESSING LOTION: the way this whole product works, is that it shrinks the color molecules. It liquifies them and then when you are done, you shampoo the molecules out of your hair. This is why you shampoo for so long. (NO actual color is seen when you rinse because the molecules are shrunk) Well, the processing lotion contains Hydrogyn peroxide which will oxidize your hair and when you do that, it shows what molecules remain. That is why sometimes it comes out dark again. With that, you are supposed to re-do the colorfix until the processing lotion becomes clear when going on. Well, Your hair will naturally oxidize in time, (with oxygen duh) and so in order to keep damage to a minimum you can skip the processing lotin. If in a few days the hair darkens, then just repeat the process and shampoo better next time.

REMEMBER: BUY A mixing bowl and brush (this is better than the bottle to mix because with the bottle you may not evenly mix the two products) The bottle works fine if you are mixing for color - but this is thicker so the brush and bowl are much nicer.
BUY A nice shampoo and a condition low in PH. Also, I got a wonderful leave in conditioner at Sallys "Pro-Vitamin Leave-In Conditioner " by Aphogee. It isn't expensive - maybe 7.00.
I got a Aphogee protein pac as well and I will do this tomorrow.

RESULTS!!!
My hair is a very natural dark auburn where the dark was (looks so warm and nice) and the highlights are blonde, but with a gold tone (I think because the semi-permant color I put on them was a BG which is gold, that the gold stayed behind a bit) I was so worried because I put color over highlights that the highlights would look horrible, but they are so pretty. :)
so basically, I feel like I went to something so dark - to a beatiful auburn with highlights. If I went to the salon and they did this with bleach, my hair would be so damaged and destroyed. Instead, it is soft and beatiful.

GOOD LUCK and don't be afraid!!! :)

Product Rating: 5 AMAZING!!
Reviewer: Lucy.   Thu Feb 07 2008

Ok, I thought it was about time I wrote about this amazing product. So, here's my story..
I started dying my hair black about 2 years ago. I started off with semi-permanent but soon started using permanent because I hated how much my hair would fade. Over the time my hair has been black, I had tried to add highlights when I got sick of looking so dark. That never worked. It turned orange every single time and every single time I would cover up my mess with some more permanent black hair dye. I started to feel pretty hopeless..live with black hair or end up bald..not a hard choice. Black hair is lovely..but not when your irish & french canadian..and white as a ghost. So, during my love hate relationship of 2 years I decided to look for some help. Somehow I ended up here and spend hours reading every single review. 98% being good reviews..I decided to try colorfix. The first time I used it my hair didn't turn too much. It turned dark brown but overall still looking pretty dark for my pale skin. I tried again and it turned orange and I was ecstatic!!! But..I grew sick of my hair when it darkened again and..YUP..WENT BLACK AGAIN! Tonight I decided to give it another go..and I am SO happy I did! It's been on my hair now for about 30-40 minutes and when I checked it I could have cried!! It is the nicest shade of light reddish brown! Not only is the color amazing but my hair still feels like hair and it is still attatched to my head!
This product won't bring your natural color back..because if you know anything about hair dye..nothing ever will bring it back once dye has touched it! But it does bring it too a color you can work with! And..if you have ever dyed your hair black..you know how important that is! Don't hesitate to try this product..because as soon as you do you're going to kick yourself for waiting! Yes..it will most likely turn out somewhat orangey but not a hideous color and something that would definetly look nice with some blonde highlights! I LOVE YOU COLORFIX!!
buy it.

Reviewer: Jenny Richert   Wed Feb 06 2008

I was really hopeful after reading the other reviews, but I don't like how my hair looks now. I think it is my fault rather than the product's fault, because I have died my hair so much that it always gets the orangy tint. I also let it sit for way longer than the box said to; way over an hour total. It did remove the color though, which will let me re-color. I will be very careful, because I read in other reviews that new color will set in very quickly.

Product Rating: 5 Colorfix is the best
Reviewer: Michelle   Mon Feb 04 2008

For those of you who have used Colorfix and have ended up with orange hair and say the product does not work, you are not using it correctly. To prevent the orange-ness, you must use the toner. It will not turn your hair darker than you had dyed it before, it will tone down the brassiness. If you did not use the toner, and are happy with Bozo or Ronald McDonald colored hair, more power to you!

I have used Colorfix many times to remove color, and it truly works. It will bring your hair to a more natural looking shade IF YOU USE THE TONER. And the instructions say, the process can be repeated 2-3 times. The whole process, which includes the toner. I have had my hair professionally highlighted, and each time my stylist uses a toner to bring my hair to a natural looking shade after she has lightened my hair. Otherwise, it would look straw-yellow/brassy orange.
This product is much better than the color remover by Clairol (I believe that is the brand). That comes in a white box with an outdated picture on the front; I've used that before and it does not provide a toner, and so your hair will remain Bozo orange after the process.
Colorfix will leave your hair soft and in good condition. It does have a rotten egg smell to it in the end, but this fades as you wash your hair. Your head will smell like a pizza, too, but the scent fades with washings. If you don't like the result after using Colorfix, you can still re-color your hair whatever shade you want. I reccomend Colorfix to anyone. Here are some tools you will need for using this product:
1. Gloves
2. Measuring cups
3. Applicator bottle
4. Spray bottle(for applying the toner more easily)
5. Shower cap

Product Rating: 5 You can get back to blond if read this it works and no damage like bleach.
Reviewer: Ronda Yowell from Olympia WA.  Sat Feb 02 2008

I have been dye my hair for years I had bleached my hair so many times at one point it broke off.
I been through cosmotology school and am aware of what bleach can do to your hair. This product actually restored my hair.and turned it back to my original color with highlights.
To tell you my story I have tried everything to get my hair back to my blond I am a natural blond and dyed my hair dark brown and tried everything every which way to get it back to blond and no results.
I decided to try colorfix and I read all the reviews and decided to buy it. the first time I used it it turned my hair orange a deep orange and I thought there was no way I was going to pull this color out to a pale yellow so I can get back to my blond. If I get it to yellow, I know I have a good chance to get it back to blond.
Well I put it on a second time and it bright end the orange a little bit and then I did not use the step three and put a color on it.. a dark ash blond.
Yuck it turned back to dark brown.............
How disappointing. The next few days I bought some more and gave it second chance wanting to get this color out. I put it on with some heat this time did it twice and used a grocery bag for a cap and left it on 30 min.The first time with heat and 40 min.with heat second time.I bought 3 different kind of color including a toner with blue base because blue gets rid of orange, so I also bought the lightest blond I could find, the lightest blond with a blue base.
I bought a blond demi color as well.Just in case.
I rinsed and shampooed and conditioned.
I sampled all colors and used lightest blond with a base blue it got rid of all the orange and restored my hair back to it's original color a dark but light blond I almost cried..........I could not believe it........Really
I have not seen my color in like 2 years or longer I been trying for years and years to go to my natural color I just got lucky I guess I know all about color and never and I mean never get the color I want.I never buy that box color at the store. And I never listen to anyone who never went through cosmetology school.
I do not know why they don't use this in salons..................I mean it works better than bleach and I know I used bleach before.
Once you use this product it will grab and I mean grab color you should use the lightest color you find if you want to be blond and use a blue base to get rid of the orange .
I have never and I mean never felt my hair so soft I conditioned it of course maybe that is why it is so soft before my hair was falling out. From previous bleaching and coloring. This is a true story I never been more happy with my hair color and thanks to this product which did not any damage and actually restored my hair.I used Ion protein reconstructor on it 2 times and added heat.I wish I could take a pictures.
The first time when I used it and it turned back to dark brown again I added a few highlights to it and it turned orange so I had ugly brown hair with orange highlights.
This colorfix brightens your highlights to natural blond too.I have original blond with light blond in the front.
This product works if you know that you have to get rid of the orange by buying a color with a base blue trust me I am a cosmetologist..........and nothing works better than this product.
It works and I cried I am back to normal color Thank you....... colorfix I will never use bleach on my clients or myself again. I wish I could show you a before and after the results are incredible. Please share this on your review because without colorfix I would of never been able to get my hair back to blond. You can be a blond again after all.

I purchased Colorfix several weeks ago, and finally, last night, decided it was time to give it a try. Thanks to the exhaustive reviews here on folica.com, I was pretty confident it would work for me. I used the full application, all of both bottles (which was not necessary even though my hair is quite long... I had half of it left over after completely saturating my hair).
My hair has been dyed every color known to man and science, and most recently I had been going to a very dark brown nearly black color. I've got a lot of greys these days and I was tired of the stripe down the middle with new growth, so I though I'd "start over". I have been using a combination of permanent and semi-permanent, salon and boxed haircolors. Let's just say, there's a lot of color on my head! I applied the goop after a throrough mixing. I used an applicatior brush and a mixing bowl and it went on very easily. Yes, it stinks a bit, but not NEARLY as bad as some of these reviews would have you believe. Kind of like a home-permanent stench... thankfully it doesn't linger in the air too long. But I would say only use it in a well-ventilated area... you'll be happier! I left the mixture on for 45 minutes, with hair in a shower cap under a bonnet dryer (old school and OH so useful!) on medium temp. heat. I checked it from time to time, and it seemed to be lightening slightly. I washed it out after 45 minutes, applied a delicious smelling protein conditioner recommended by the helpful kids at Sally Beauty, and VOILA! It was GORGEOUS!! A reddish brownish delight. Better than I could have hoped for. It's only slightly lighter at the roots where I had some new growth, but it's barely noticeable. My only concern is that, like any other reviewers have mentioned here, my hair is getting gradually darker and darker as the day goes on! It doesn't look bad, just not quite as lovely as it initially was. So I may wait for the weekend and do another application, just to even it up. I had planned to re-color, but I like the color so much currently, I think I'll leave it alone after the next application. So far, the darkening and the unfortunate smell when it's wet are the only issues I have with my hair. I know that the wet dog smell will go away after several washes, so I'm not worried. When it's dry it's barely detectable. It's a miracle! Buy it!

My 16 year old daughter used the permanent jet black hair color, then tried everything to get it out with no luck. I called several local hair salons and no one would even touch her hair! All they said was, "Good luck!" I read the reviews here and thought it was worth a try.

We put Color Fix on twice (same evening) and my daughter actually liked the color she ended up with, so we didn't even color it again.

This product is AMAZING and well worth the cost!

I have been dying my hair for over ten years. I have used all different brands, colors, and levels of permanency on my hair. A year ago I dyed it with a permanent dark brown. I thought I was stuck with a dark color. I truly didn't believe that ANYTHING would make it light again, and I was so tired of the dark color!

I tried color fix, and my hair went from a VERY dark purplish auburn, to a light honey brown. In 20 minutes. I was so happy. THIS STUFF WORKS. Even though I had all different kinds of dye in my hair, the color all faded evenly! It all came out the same color, no stripes or roots.

This is an awesome product and I wish I would have known about it sooner!

I had medium blonde hair with ends that were too light. I did an all over color with Clairol Perfect 10 in dark blonde hoping to even out the color and get it closer to my natural color. The results were horrible. The majority of my hair turned an unnatural dull transparent ash color. I was afraid to use color fix, but I figured that it couldn't make my hair much worse than it was.

You need to purchase gloves and a mixing bottle or bowl/brush separately. I did the "slight" color correction which omits the processing lotion in the mix. The instructions recommend this method for hair that is too dark or ashen. I only left the mix on my hair for about 4 minutes. The results were incredible. It lightened the color a shade and removed all the "ashen" color. Now it has a nice, even, medium, neutral to golden blonde hue. I couldn't be happier.

I'm a natural blonde that went a little crazy with coloring her hair. I have been every shade under the sun and then some, and have tried every product out there. Well, I ended up with blue black hair that looked cool but frankly I got so sick of it and just wanted to be back to my ol' blonde self again! I'm a college student without a lot of money, so I REALLY did not want to go to some salon, plus I am a bullheaded kid anyways, so I tried this stuff and HOLY CRAP. Amazing stuff, you guys. It didn't hurt at all and yea, it smelled pretty raunchy but that was the ONLY bad thing!! Now I have gorgeous blonde locks and it's all thanks to Color Fix :) Ooohh PLUS my hair is silky smooth and...yes-STRONG. Dude. Go buy some.

I had dark brown semi-permanent dye on my hair and have been dying my hair for about the last 20 years. I decided to let my gray show. I used colorfix night before last. The first application left it a howdy-doody red. I used it a second time for another 20 minutes and then used the processing lotion. It turned a chestnut brown with a lot of my gray showing through. I went to a salon yesterday and had some low-lights added. My hair was soft and not damaged from the stripping process. I also used a protein conditioner after the stripping. I love the results and would definitely recommend this product.

Product Rating: 3 If you have colored your hair red...
Reviewer: AJ   Wed Jan 09 2008

I didn't see very many reviews on using this on red hair, so I thought I'd share my experience. My natural hair color is an ashy dark blond. (I haven't seen it in years, though.) I have been dying my hair a with permanent-color called chocolate cherry by Feria for a couple years, at least every 8 weeks. It is a very dark burgundy brown. Recently, I really got tired of how fast it fades, and my roots showing after only a couple weeks.
I didn't want to bleach my hair, so after reading about Color Fix, I went out and bought a box. First, I used about 1/4 of both bottles mixed together in an applicator bottle, and left that on for about 50 minutes while blow drying on low for a few minutes at a time. I washed that out and noticed very little difference. So I put more on, about 3/4 of what was left of each bottle, and left it on for another 50 min. to an hour. I didn't use the processing lotion at all. Now my hair is a dark, strawberry blond, copper color. It's not what I wanted, or even close, but my roots are less noticeable, and I guess thats good enough. It does smell pretty bad, like sewage and rotten eggs, but its not as strong as hair dye is. It lightened my hair without damaging it, so now it should be easier to color over.

Reviewer: Kathy from Orlando, Fl  Sun Jan 06 2008

I very seldom write a review but after accidentally dying my brown (brunette) hair total black I purchased the Colorfix product and it worked perfectly. I have colored my hair on a regular basis after it becomes dull and the grey starts to shine thru. On my recent trip to the store I could not find my normal shade of color so I purchased what I thought was similar to give my hair a darker brown with red tints but after using the product it turned my hair black. Thank god for Colorfix which was easy to use and returned my hair to its original shade. I appreciated reading all the comments prior to purchase just so I knew what I was doing and that I was not alone with all my worries. Also, I am thankful that another comment stated to purchase applicator bottle and/or mixing bowl and cap if you did not already have one at home since it is not included in the kit. Great product, it took my tears away once my hair was restored to its original color.

Product Rating: 2 Burns Hair...Stinks too!
Reviewer: Amanda from NC, USA  Fri Jan 04 2008

After reading post on this site, I decided to give it a try. My natural color is ash-dark blonde, and I have been coloing to a medium/dark brown. I had tried a auborn color, and allow it to fade, then wanted to remove and lighten back to a soft brown.

First, I applied product as noted to my hair, and I began to notice this awful smell... MY LONG HAIR WAS BENINING TO BURN. Not to mention turning bright orange so after allowing the product to sit for only 8 min. I immediately washed it out as stated on the box.

After reading the ingrediants of the last bottle of processing (step 3) I noticed it had peroxide. (if memory serves me correctly, that will only enhance the lovely "orange" mane I had presented myself with in the mirror. That last bottle was never opened.

The process began where I had to re-color my hair, this part I am supprised actually worked and accepted the color well. My hair still has that burnt smell with the latest hair dye smell also. I will say DEEP CONDITIONING will be a must, for it really did dry it out.
