I had permanent black hair dye in my hair. The product worked... just not to the degree that I wanted it to. My very black hair which is cut just beneath my shoulders was taken back to a dark brown color which left my roots black and blond.. everywhere else the hair was even. I think I would have to buy about 4-5 more boxes of this to bring me back to my original dark blond color. So I had to put a little bit of bleach in the hair to bring it back down to color. I definitely think that this kind of product would do well in a salon... all the places I went to here in Victoria have never heard of such a thing and it's not sold in any of the stores that I know of. The great thing about it was how gentle it was. It's actually pretty amazing that it took out permanent black dye.. even if it didn't bring me to my original color... it turned out being the color I used before I dyed it black. and I did not use the third step because of the comments that I read.
Pleasantly Suprised.

I am 35 and have colored my hair (box) since I was 17 years old. My natural hair color is very dark brown. I've colored it everything a shade or two lighter to black. Recently, I colored a 'medium chocolate brown'. Gorgeous color- and always colored evenly (no dark ends). When the brown started to wear out I noticed I was nearly 60% gray/white. I decided that I'd like to see my hair without artificial color (permanent). Skeptical- because I was told NOTHING would remove boxed color- I found this, read the reviews and purchased one box of it along with a mixing kit (bowl, brush, clips, combs, etc.) It arrived and sat for better than a week.
I am NOT a brave person and I thought for sure that if it could go badly- I'd be that 'bad case'. Just not so. I went into it on the 'reserved' side. I mixed 1 tablespoon of #1 with 1 tablespoon #2 and 1 tablespoon of conditioning shampoo. I donned my gloves and then took glops of the mixture into my hands, rubbed them together, started at the roots and worked my way to the scalp (took less than 1 minute to apply). I put on a shower cap and stood there waiting. After about 4 minutes I removed the cap, massaged the mixture in my hair and then rinsed it all out. It was already lighter. I decided to go again. Same mixture, same ingredients, same shower cap. I left it on this time for about 3 minutes because I could see the color fading and turning a little on the copper side. I rinsed it out, shampoo'd once, conditioned and dried it. The result was AMAZING. I will NOT recolor my hair the way some said they needed to do. It is a nice brownish color with some (very non-brassy) copper highlights. It removed the brown evenly from root to tip- no splotchy stuff. I snapped a photo and emailed it to my husband who replied "OMG-LOVE THE COLOR- YOU ARE SO HOT". Now if THAT isn't an endorsement.... I don't know what is.
I do not believe this is my natural hair color- but after reading through, your natural haircolor can't be replaced because of damage to pigments. I am hoping the gray/white will gracefully enter my new 'stripped' color without having to use another dye to bring it to the darker color I believe my natural color probably is.
This product worked at removing boxed color from my hair. It did exactly what it said it would. Now- two things of note.... It did NOT damage my hair. Not one bit. It is just as soft and shiney as it always is and very healthy. The odor that some claim is like death itself- I'm just not smelling it. Is there an odor- well, there is a smell - I wouldn't call it ODOR. But- I didn't use it full strength either! I mixed it with shampoo right from the jump. I can see how some might relate it to freshly permed hair- you can definately smell chemical.... but as far as rotten eggs and/or sulfer- I don't agree. It just smells like processed hair. Perm would be the closest reference I would have- just dampened a bit. Oh- and after two applications of one tablespoon each, I still have 2/3rds of the product left in each bottle. My hair is about 4 inches below my jaw line all the way around- so it isn't short by a far cry.
My suggestion to anyone as skeptical as me (without a mountain of long hair) - go easy. Do it with the shampoo- do it for just a few minutes, wash it out- look at what you have- then go again if you want more color removed. I believe if I had done it one more time- my hair would have been too red and brassy. JUST DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THE MIRROR WHILE IT IS ON THERE.... YOU CAN LITERALLY WATCH IT CHANGE....AND REMOVE IT IF IT GETS TOO MUCH.
Excellent product. Would STRONGLY RECOMMEND to anyone who has a color mishap or just wants to get it all out and let nature take its course. :) The photos were taken after the chocolate brown was removed. And it was even all the way to the roots.... as shown.

WOW! This product is like magic Ive died my hair many times my last color was cinnamon color that was achived by bleaching, my hair is naturally dark about a 2 or 3. when the roots grew out I wanted to temporarily blend them until I could afford a professional lightening service I put blueblack celephane in my hair and it turned bight green I freaked out because I a had an interview the next day so I bought bigen powder in oriental black I figured beacuse my hair was so light it wouldnt get too dark boy was I wrong I looked like a corpse my boyfriend told me I looked like a witch person. I tired to wash it with baby shampoo (stripping) for a month & it wouldnt budge I bought the box @ sallys only used the fist to bottles because the color was still darker than what I had started at. Now my hair is a pretty light mahogany color I think Im going to leave it like this for a little whyle Though my hair smells like fart it still feal very stong and has shine and thats the best part because salon correction services bleach hair dye out and damage it .I was told to shave my head to get the black out HA! . Im very impressed I cant belive my eyes. BUY IT

My hair was a nice med ash brown (have been dyeing it for years; permanent and semi-permanent versions of ash browns) before I decided to use Hennalucent Bark Brown on it. The hennalucent was given to me for free, and according to the box, it wasn't supposed to function as a tint or dye, but merely to add translucent darker tones to my hair. Yeah right. It turned my hair raven's wing BLACK! It was like having a black hole on my head, it sucked all the life and color out of me and was as flat and dull as can be. There were patches underneath, nearer my neck that weren't colored, and the contrast was ridiculous. In the first picture, I can assure you that my hair was even darker than the picture shows. It was almost blue-black. I felt like Morticia. So, I decided to try Colorfix, hoping it would work even with Hennalucent (semi-permanent??? Minimal amounts of henna??? But no metallic salts, according to the Hennalucent box.) Anyway, as you can see in the second picture, it worked (my hair is not shorter in second pic, just pulled back a bit) . THANK YOU COLORFIX!!!! I used the straight half and half mix without shampoo for full correction. I first applied it to the ends and midsection of my hair, for 15 minutes, then added it to the crown for an extra 10 minutes. Just keep an eye on it and you can see how long you need to leave it in. I had done a strand test, so I knew how long I'd want to leave it in. Anyway, I rinsed it and shampooed with Aphogee shampoo from Sally's, a really excellent product. Then I applied the processing lotion, even though everyone else said to skip it; I tried it first on a strand test, and liked that it toned down the brassiness of the lifted color. I only left it on for 3 minutes, then rinsed and shampooed again, then left on an intensive reconstuctor, also by Aphogee for a few minutes, then rinsed it out. I also used a second conditioner, the Herbal Essences for color-treated hair, because it always leaves my hair soft, and it smells amazing. My hair doesn't smell so bad at all. You have to have it right up to your nose to catch the chemical smell, but it's not a big deal at all. At all. All the other posters said it'd be so horrible, but my experience is not that at all. I might color it tomorrow. I did a strand test with Revlon ColorSilk in Light Ash Brown, and left it on for 5 minutes and it came out a nice ash brown with slight auburny undertones. I want to see if the color oxidizes to a darker brown in the next day or so before I color it. I'm so happy that black color is out of my hair!!!! Colorfix said not to use with henna or with semi-permanent color, but it fixed my hair regardless!!!! It's a bit drier than before, but I'm sure a few conditioning treatments will restore it to silkiness. Good Luck!!!!!
BUY IT!!!!

I am in complete shock! My hair was jet black less than 45 minutes ago. Now it is auburn, i did not put the toner on so it's pretty bright but i am going to apply it again tomorrow to get it lighter!!!! and it is in great condition, it is not dry or anything and I have not put conditioner in it yet!!!!! Don't hesitate, just get it and follow the directions!!!! it did not burn my scalp either, however i will say-contrary to what they say-it smells terrible! like a perm almost but i can deal with that!

Hi my name is Fina, let me start by saying that this product was by far the best product ever.. My husband is in the military, and we have been stationed overseas for the past 2 years, I went home to visit and got some foiled high lights on my hair, and had the rest of my hair lightend up my natural hair color is dark brown. Well I was only in the states for 1 month so now im back overseas and needed a touch up. I was to scared to go to the local salons so I though that i might save my self the time and the money to color is black, big mistake, it was Garnier Blue Black... Well it was so black I looked like Elvira, it was horrible, and that wasnt the worst thing, the worst was that where i previously had my hightlights, well my highlights turned blue, .. I cried, I heard about this product so i ordered it, I used all of bottles 1 and 2, mixed them with no shampoo, i left it on for about 40 min. I washed it out and all the black is totaly out, and i now have my highlights back, and the rest of my hair is a nice golden color,, I love it.... Heres a tip, have a friend help you, so that you get all the back of your hair.. and buy gloves and a hair coloring brush with pic. This product dosent come with gloves , mixing bowl or hair brush...

I spent 2 hours reading ALL comments before trying this.
I was scared to try it. I have to say I nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw how orange my hair was after the recommended 20 mins. I have been coloring my hair for 7 years and I thought I would try and Highlight my own hair which ended up turning orange so I tried to fix it by putting blond color on and it ended up turning Green.
In the state of panic I went to a Hair Salon to have it fix to only ending up walking out with Fire Truck RED Hair...
I thought there was no hope. So going online I was looking for a Color removal and found this web site. I took the time to read thru and went to Sally's and purchased this product and 2 bottles of hair color.
When I put it on it instantly lifted all the color I have ever had on my hair. Of course the ORANGE freaked me out a bit. (By the way the Smell isn't that bad)After letting my hair dry I put Dark Blond color by Ion. Now, I have a really pretty goldish blond. I am completly satisfied. It left my hair soft. I am really happy to have found this product. ( I didn't use the Lotion due to the comments)

Boredom is a dangerous thing!!! I took my mouse brown to sun lightened blonde hair and decided to go red. I got it done at a salon and after they were done they told me that it would take a lot of up keep, up keep I cant afford by the way. So the color faded over time and I attempted to dye brown over it to rid the red however it would always come back. I found this site online and read all the reviews and thought why not give Colorfix a try. I went to Sally’s and found a box there, and bought a box of Natural Instincts Dark Ash Blonde at CVS just incase I did not like the color that Colorfix gave me. Well I went home and did a stand test and it looked good so I put the Colorfix on with a plastic processing cap hitting it with a hair dryer every once and a while and checking it every 10 minutes after about 40 minutes, (I did not use the Processing lotion) I rinsed my hair for very well, washed it with Palmolive and put on a deep conditioner. I let it dry naturally. My hair was lighter and a gross light strawberry blonde and was much darker underneath. But now it was light enough to dye a color closer to my natural color over it. I dyed it with the Natural Instincts leaving that on for seven minutes and now I’m very pleased with the outcome. It is pretty close to my natural color and I think that it will grow out nicely. I hope that I won’t have to go through this again as I plan to stick with my natural color but if I so happen to get bored again I would defiantly use Colorfix again to correct my mistakes.
What a relief--this product is great!!!

My hair was dark plum coal black. No shine. Dead.
If you have long (below shoulder length) hair that you've overdyed...get two boxes...just in case. Even though I used it full strength (and left it on my hair for about 40 minutes) all of the deposited color has not lifted evenly. I suppose that its due to all of my awful bome dye jobs and NOT the ColorFix. SO...I need to hit the darker parts of my hair today (those super porous middle-ends that were black yesterday and are now auburn(?) see photos below) Here's what I did;
Mixed all of the product in an applicator bottle and appled it quickly (The kit DOES NOT come with bottle brush or gloves! So make sure you have these)
I kept strand checking after 10 mins...20 mins--was basically in the mirror the whole time working it in. Put it on my roots after 12 minutes (was afraid it would turn my roots orange or "butter" color if I had it on the whole time--that was before I understood what the product really does). The result...my hair color at the root line is just a SLIGHT bit lighter than my natural color...which is a relief. The truth is that Colorfix really does take out the DYE. It's all of that overprocessed hair which has turned that reddish-cinnamon--slight orange tinge--and I'm sure it will go lighter once I use the second box. Those strands are so porous from all the crap dyes I used previously, that my true color has been affected and will never go back to "natural"...I didn't expect it to really... I am amazed it has worked so well to this point. My hair actually has a bit of shine now.
I'm also quite sure that all of those auburn- plum- black- ruby- mahagony boxed colors like herbal essences garnier loreal can be removed with this product.
I did not use the third step yet but I may if my hair gets really light after I use the second box today.
Then I'll dye it 5G-5.3 by Ion Color Brilliance.
I'm relieved...excited and really happy that I found this product.
i approve!

I have been dyeing my hair for 4+ years. Two years ago, I was changing the color every month, and I continue to change it but with much caution and not nearly as often. My hair has been every color, so you can imagine what a beating it has taken. I went from reddish-brown to black this year. I bought Colorfix after only having the black in my hair for ~3 weeks. I read the reviews on here first.
I mixed half of bottle 1, half of bottle 2, and shampoo --an amount equivalent to one of those bottles-- in a bowl and left it on my hair for somewhere between 45 min. and an hour! I was left with a very pretty, natural-looking shade of brown, and I later realized that it was just a tad lighter than the reddish-brown that I had started out with. The only thing is that when I dyed my hair black, my natural roots were grown in about an inch. When I used Colorfix, those roots were showing again. It was really no problem, though, and I loved the result.
And everyone on here is right-- that stuff does smell very rotten, and the smell stays for about a day.
Colorfix is very gentle! If damage was done to my hair, I am unaware. I am a hair dying fanatic, and I have used just about everything, and this is good for those who don't want to bleach and break their hair.
I read in reviews on here that using Processing Lotion was a bad idea-- so I did not touch it. I did not need to. I heard that it darkened your hair again. Funny story: after using Colorfix (I also used it again after that, but it only made it a little lighter.), I decided that I wanted my hair light brown, so before I dyed it light brown, I'd have to get it a little lighter. I mixed bleach with shampoo --nevermind the amounts-- and it was a pretty dumb idea because my hair has gone back to black! I don't understand how that works, but my hair is now black at the roots (about 4 in.), and the rest, the long tips, are reddish-brown.
My point is: Don't blame Colorfix entirely if your hair gets darker. This might happen because you mix shampoo with it, depending on how much you put in (the less, the better). Some kind of a reaction takes place. My advice is to do what I did or to even use less shampoo than that. I am going to try Colorfix again sometime this winter.
I hope that this helped and that it was not too long, sorry!
It worked

I had almost given up with my hair - I thought I was at a point of no return !!!! ...until I tried this product. I thought it was a bit expensive, but for what it did, it was worth it! My hair actually turned out better than expected!
I had so many colors in my hair - from blond to auburn to dark brown, to light brown, then I tried to get my hair back to my a natural beige blond, but my hair turned orange and green!!! OMG, I tried and tried with so many colors to get it right and meticulously checked that the base would cancel out the green and then tried to get the orange out, but after about 8 different tries, I almost gave up and was at the hairdresser and she refused to work on such overprocessed hair and told me to leave my hair alone for at least a month!
I told her - no way! I was not going to walk around with my hair like this!
So, I read some reviews and figured the best thing I could do was use this product. And it was!
My hair is soft and silky - no breakage - it actually feels like it improved the condition of my hair. And I have a light beige blond color. It's perfect! I'm impressed!
I did have to do it twice - so I left it on for 20 mins and then rinsed and washed my hair and then reapplied it and left it on for another 20 mins, BUT I thought it was worth every minute and every penny!
Thanks "colorfix!"
This should be a girls bestfriend!

I absolutely love this stuff!
it is amazing it works so well
i have been dying my hair since i was 12
every color literally... like most girls
Ive gone to high end salons and hated the job they did when trying to strip black hair color out, i wish they knew about this product insted of using bleach my hair has never been damaged by this stuff i will continue using it.
* points of advice
that i learned from experience are that once you strip the color and you dye it right after wait a couple of days or so and choose a lighter color than your desired because your hair is so thirsty and dry it will absorb colors deposited to hair very fast and make it dark again, but it will fade out eventually
Lovin it

i have been bleaching and coloring my hair blonde for years. Last year i bleached it and it turned orange yellow and i ran out of money and bleach so half of my head was not done. So instead of dealing with the embaressment of having three colors in my hair (blonde, yellow, light brown) i dyed my hair black but it was goth black like way past jet black. I have 2 boxes of colorfix and i tested a strand of my black and it turned brown after 20 mins step 1 &2 only washed out with paul mitchel clarifying shampoo and dryed it. it looks brown but i think this may be the section i ran out of bleach for before the black dye. what should i do?? will my hair show up as a bunch of colors when i use colorfix? i also have a ffew boxes of bleach just in case. has anyone used this for black hair dye with bleach under the black???!! HELP!!

I tried Colorfix to get a manic panic red out of my hair that was put over a permanent orange color.
I left it in for the allotted time, and when I rinsed it out my hair was light at the roots where I first applied it and the rest of my hair barely changed, only turning even pinker.
Now I'm off to buy a bleach because this didn't "colorfix" my hair at all.

I'm writing this in response to many posts before me. I use this product on a daily basis. It is a non-bleach formula (meaning it will not touch your NATURAL color molecules and turn your hair orange) Here are some pointers on using this products:
- One user said not to use step three, this is what dries out your hair. The step one and two product opens your cuticle to let the artificial color molecules out to oxygenate. Step three will close the cuticle back up. if you don't use this, all the moisture will escape your hair and make if feel dry. For best results, let your hair air dry before applying it and make sure you shampoo out the step one and two solution twice with preferably a clarifying shampoo before you apply step three.
-It clearly states this product doesn't fully work on semi/demi permanent color. Meaning, the non permanent dyes have much much bigger molecules of color, therefore, it cannot escape as easily and they are not formulated to be used with peroxides (like permanent colors) therefore cannot be oxygenated (which is what this product does) It also doesn't work well with cheap shelf color (nice n easy) since most of those colors are metals. Using this on metal dyes will 'fry' your locks.
-Apply the heat of a blow dryer for the full 20 minutes to open the cuticle of your hair even more.
- This product will return your hair to it's previous lightest state. meaning, if you had bleached highlites a few months ago and then covered them up with an all over color, those highlites will be back because all deposited color has been removed.
Love It

I love this product, I get bored with my hair a lot and I have used this 3 times now!(Dont plan to get bored again tho!) It really works! My hair was near enough Black and went back to near enough its original colour (Auburn)!! :o)
The first time I used it, It started to go darker, Fortunatley I had bought 2 incase I needed it and used again, that time I dyed my hair to the nearest shade possible to my natural colour. its amazing!! Shiny, healthy hair.
It does stink though! Overall I am impressed! Didnt think it would work at all to begin with!

To start with my hair is naturaly one shade lighter than black. I started dying my hair black to match my roots as i have started getting gray hairs. I decided i wanted to go lighter for summer and after reading all the reviews chose colorfix. I applied the product as per the instructions after the 20 min the color hadn't really changed so i left it on for an hour. My roots started to go a caramel colur and the ends a dark mahogany (not orange tho!) so i applied it again and left it for another hour and washed and shampood off. the top was lighter than the bottom but not badly my ends were a mid brown and a nice caramel color on the roots. So far really impressed and excited about going lighter! i chose a light caramel colour (semi permanant) 2 shades lighter than the colour i wanted to be i left it on for half the reco time - 10 mins the results? My hair is now pitch black!? Not sure how this happened should have just left it after the colorfix - disappointed as i paid allot for shipping to the UK - the stuff does smell really bad and my hair is pretty damaged now so just gonna grow it out.
