Product Rating: 1 Didn't work!
Reviewer: Terri from NJ  Thu May 04 2006

I read all the reviews on this site. Most were good even on Black dyed hair.

So I went to Sally's and bought it.

My hair is normally light brown, shoulder length, with some gray coming in. Coloring it with Permanent - Level 3 brown had made it too dark.

Used the ColorFix exactly as directed except for leaving out the Processing Lotion as suggested in other reviews.

When done and dried my hair was 1/2 a shade lighter then it had been before I started. Still dark. However all brown was stripped off the gray hair! Gray bangs, roots etc. The rest dark brown. I looked ridiculous. LOL!

I had bought Clairol's Permanent Medium Blonde, hoping to lighten my light brown hair. Rather then have gray and dark brown hair, I decided to see what the Clairol would do. I waited 24 hours before using the Clairol. Bet you know the results. The dark brown got darker then it had been before I tried the ColorFix and the gray turned blonde. Weird! Two Toned hair is not what I was trying for. Blonde bangs & roots with dark brown shoulder length hair is not what I wanted.

So I would say the Colorfix is a waste of money - for ME! Maybe it does work on others. BTW, it did NOT smell as bad as others had stated..

Product Rating: 1 didn't work for me
Reviewer: sue from ny, ny  Thu May 04 2006

I bought this product because of the good reviews for it but it didn't work for me. I do not know why. I dyed my black hair with loreal permanent's light brown color two weeks ago and I didn't like it. When I used the colorfix, I followed the directions carefully. I was checking my hair and the color never changed. So, I decided to wash it after 45 minutes and the color has a red tone. I came back online to read the bad reviews and they had a similiar experience where the color turned more red.

I have no idea why this didn't work for me. I did use a permanent color when I dyed my hair.

I am disappoint. But, it may work for other people judging on the good reviews. *sigh*

I tried this after I dyed my hair red, then brown, got blonde highlights, dyed it red, dyed it brown...my hair is blonde but after all the dyeing, redyeing, then dyeing another colour etc, I had so many different colours in my hair, then I came accross this stuff. OK, it does stink. My hair smells like flatulence right now.But I'm blonde again! There is still a slight aura of ginger on the top layer of my hair, but I only did it this afternoon, so I'll see how it is after a few hairwashes. But aside from that and the smell, I'm really pleased. Easy to apply, is very kind to your hair, and really works. I will post another review in a few days, once I've had a few hairwashes and it's had time to settle, but right now I am very pleased.

Product Rating: 3 Not bad - not for black
Reviewer: Kris from Ohio  Fri Apr 28 2006

My daughter had very bright red and very dark black permanent dyed stripes and wanted to go back to her natural color (light brown). We used the product according to the directions and helpful tips on this site. We left it on for 20 minutes...the red turned bright yellow, almost completely white and nothing happened to the black. We used the 3rd step, hoping it would lighten the black some and still nothing. So, we bought some light brown hair color and her previously red/then yellow stripes went to that color and the black stayed very black. She's happy, but wanted to be all one color for once! I'm afraid that if we would have left it on longer, she would have damaged the red/yellow portion and still nothing would have happened to the black.

Product Rating: 3 remove color BUT......

please read on if you are one of those girls or guys that has dyed your hair black for many years and is just tired of jet black hair and you thought your only option was to bleach until your hair fell out or just grow it out - READ ON!

i'm a veteran with the black hair dye, been dying the deepest darkest black for years, i was digging it for a while (5 years to be exact) and honestly it was time for a change. no salon would venture to even touch it, they didn't want to help me, turned me away or just offered bleaching, bleaching, bleaching, which would eventually lead to me being bald. i thought it was hopeless, i thought i was doomed, well i read these reviews on folica.com and you guys convinced me to try it!

i did - and i LOVE my hair, every little thing about this product was true.

i DIDN'T use the processing lotion, i did the full color removal process which contains NO use of shampoo i just went full throttle into the adventure that was colorfix.

no smell? yeah that was a LIE. whoa does it smell, smells like a backed up drain, a bowl of rotten eggs - sulfuric acid, yuck! but you know what the smell goes away after a while and it's totally worth it.

i went from jet black hair to a ravishing, even toned redhead. and NO damage, the only damage was that awful smell but that goes away. every single penny i spent on this was worth it, please try it.

Product Rating: 5 Totally works and it's save you money!!!!

I'm asian with naturally curl. I've been using a light brown for many years and decided to change a new look. I purchased a haircolor in the box called Sultry Chestnut from L'Oreal. I followed the instruction. Apparently my hair went way to extremely black! Not sure what to do, until I found this product called "one and only color fix " on the web. This products does work, it only took me 10 minutes to processed it and my hair went back to slightly dark brown which is I'm quite content! I've use the Processing Lotion because my hair went too reddish from using the blow dryer in low setting and this is why it only took 10 minutes. It has unpleasant smells- It'll stay with you for couple days. Overall, this product will actually removed the permament hair colored.

Product Rating: 5 great job on my fine curly dark hair
Reviewer: julie from california  Tue Mar 28 2006

I have naturally curly very dark brown hair shoulder length hair and have been coloring to light brown with highlights (lots of bleach)for over a year with a salon. I decided to go back to dark brown and I came out very very black. My stylist said she could only strip it out with bleach and recolor it (ouch!) or add highlights to my black hair (yuk)

After reading all the reviews, I bought the color fix and after a day tried it. I did not use the processing lotion and my hair came out medium brown with red highlights. Atleast I don't look like a black liquorice any longer.

One recommendation would be to make sure hair is conditioned well. I use Phyto hair mask for color treated hair. alittle pricey, but worth every penny to keep hair in good condition with all the color.

A+ for color fix.

Reviewer: Cate from Oceanside, CA  Sat Mar 25 2006

I bought the product after reading a lot of the reviews. I had been dying my hair only since July, but I had been dying it red and red brown. My natural color is more than 50% grey and light brown/dark blonde. I realized some of the hair color I had used was semi-permanent. (I was trying to lose the obvious hair dye line by having the color gradually washing out, but choosing a darker shade defeated that purpose due to my grey hair.) So I knew going in that the Color Fix might not get all of it out.

Anyway the Color Fix did take out much of the dyes. I did buy two boxes and I did the process twice. The first time for 30 minutes and the second time for one hour. I did not use the processing lotion. After the second usage I deep conditioned my hair for an hour. It got me to a dark strawberry blonde. I've been using ash blonde dye since, but a red tint is still coming thru slightly. It’s not enough to cause me a lot of aggravation. I may try another couple of bottles of Color Fix in a couple of months.

The smell was not as bad as I thought it would be. It hung around for a day and then was gone. I didn't see any damage to my hair which was really great and it did lighten my hair. I'm happy with the product. I would recommend Color Fix with the stipulation the customer not expect it to work on removing semi-permanent dye.

Product Rating: 5 Good product

Having gone through a color correction at a salon, I was not interested in spending the money nor damaging my hair any further. That's when I did some research and found this product.
I just used it yesterday and it took out all of the unwanted color.
I only needed one box and I have shoulder length hair and a LOT of it.
I used the processing lotion even though a lot of people are hesitant to do so. It is used to let you know if there is any dye left on your hair. If your hair turns darker, then there's dye left and you should use another box.
I also read complaints that the processing lotion tangles hair. Well, even though the box doesn't tell you to condition after the processing lotion, it seemed like the right thing to do. Now, it feels just fine.
It really did minimal damage to my hair and I should know what damage feels like -- I survived undoing a perm.

Product Rating: 4 Black to Brown
Reviewer: Tina from PA  Thu Mar 23 2006

I color my hair once in awhile to cover the increasing amount of gray I have in my dark brown hair. This time I used "Darkest Natural Brown". Well, my hair was BLACK. Goth black. I looked dumb. I was ready to shell out who knows how much at a salon and basically fry my hair because I hated it. I went to Sally's and got this product, then I found this website and read all the reviews. Well, my hair isn't back to normal, but it sure isn't black anymore! I can now live with letting it grow/fade out. Thanks for all the helpful tips!

Product Rating: 5 This stuff works wonders.. For real...
Reviewer: Rasta   Tue Mar 14 2006

I was a tad skeptical about this product, but wanted the black permanent dye out of my hair. My hair is natural, with dred locks, i mixed both bottles #1 and #2 together, made it kind of foamy, left it on for 45 minutes, and sat under the dryer for 8, my hair is now a cinnamon color, very pretty, i was going to redye it another color, no need, because the end resukt color, is beautiful. The only thing is, you do need a strong conditioner, other than that, i will reccomend to anyone.

Product Rating: 5 Amazing product!
Reviewer: Pamela from Redlands California  Sun Mar 12 2006

For the past several months I have been coloring my hair a dark red mahogany, my natural color is a light strawberry blonde. Although the color looked good, it was difficult to keep up and started to take on a pinkish hue. I hesitated using this product since I had been using a semi-permenant dye and they don't guarentee that Colorfix will work on semi-permenants. But I thought what the heck I'll give it a try and see what happens. This stuff is amazing! As I was applying it I could see my hair lightening! My hair was a VERY dark red/maroon and within 10 minutes I was back to my natural color! I followed the advice of the others and didn't use the processing lotion. My hair looks so good I don't have to use any other color products on it, it is very soft and shiny with no damage at all! The smell isn't that bad and goes away quickly.

Those of you who live in the states and can walk in to a store and buy this or get it mail order in a couple of days are so lucky.
Two weeks ago my usual dye job went drastically wrong for some reason and I ended off with way too dark a shade of brown instead of dark blonde/light brown.
To cut a long story short I'd read about this stuff on the net but can't get it in the UK so I sent for it from the States and had to wait a week.
It works, it smells, though I've have smelt worse perms but it works.
The only thing I'd as is that I did use the processing lotion this time but wouldn't when I use it again the lift was amasing all the dark brown was gone but the processing lotion darkened it more than I expectd.

Product Rating: 5 An absolute miracle
Reviewer: erin   Fri Mar 10 2006

my hair was brownish/red and i bought a dye that turned it black (not the brown it advertised). I was devastated. This product worked like an absolute dream. stripped all of the black out and restored my hair to a beautiful brown again. I cannot recommend this product enough.

I color my hair myself and sometimes it comes out too dark. Recently, I came up with deep red hair, instead of warm light brown hair. So...I ordered Colorfix. I read a review of it and it sounded like what I needed. And it was. Because I was not sure of results when starting, I used the mix of shampoo and Colorfix (per instructions). My hair turned out just great. Nice condition, not dry and my scalp was fine. What a nice surprise. I recommend it.

I had gradually dyed my hair darker & darker, eventually leading to it being black. Now that Spring is coming, I wanted to lighten the look up. I used One 'n Only Colorfix and it lifted the black out. I had purchased 2 boxes and had to use both of them to really lift it out but I also have very long hair. I didn't apply corrective color to my hair because I liked the Auburn color that it left. My hair was not damaged or left dry, it had a nice shine to it. I recommend this product to anyone that wants to lift the darkness out. Oh, and yes, it does stink but it goes away.

Product Rating: 4 Color Fix
Reviewer: Laurie-Ann from Western New York State  Sun Feb 26 2006

Color Fix is a great product. It lightens your previous dyed hair without the harshness of bleach! Please note it will not take your hair back to it's previous color, but only removes the dye. My natural color is dark brown and I was dying it dark brown to cover the gray. I wanted to go lighter, but didn't want the harshness of bleach to get it there. Once I used Color Fix my dyed hair was brought to a meduium golden blond until I applied the 3rd part of the 3 part process, when my hair ended up a light brown. It did not affect my uncolored roots at all. I was able to dye my hair to a lighter color. My hair was a bit dry feeling, but the damage was much less than bleach, (which makes my hair like cotton candy). After a few treatments of intense moisture conditioning my hair was back to it's shiney smooth self. I still give my hair an intense moisture treatment at the very least, once a week. I plan to go even lighter and plan to use Color Fix to get there. I do recommend this product!

Product Rating: 4 AWESOME
Reviewer: Megan from Worcester, MA  Sun Feb 26 2006

This product is amazing, I've been dying my naturally dark brown hair jet jet black for the past three years. I decided to go back down to my natural colour so I picked up Colorfix from Sally's. I read reviews first so I didn';t bother using the processing lotion. It turned my jet black hair a caramelish brown. The only reason I gave it four stars is because the product label is misleading, it is not at all odorless, it stinks like horrible rotten egg. It took me five shampoos to get it out, it stunk something awful, other than it was great.
