My hair is naturally blonde (Scandinavian decent), and I have been dying it black after I had an "oops" with red hair dye for about eight months now. I got sick of the touch-ups every month, so I wanted to go back to a shade close to my natural.

I tried to put blonde highlights in my hair, but the black wouldn't budge. I did some research and found One 'n Only Colorfix online, read the reviews, and ordered it.

The smell is not that bad. I found it to be less pungent than perm solution, but stronger than hair dye. I used it only once on my hair for only 20 minutes, skipped step 3 (I used my own deep conditioner), and it lightened a significant amount! I am totally impressed with this product!

The pictures I included are of my hair AFTER I used the product. It was pitch black before.

I've been using this product on all my friends ever since discovering its amazingness last year. I too left out the processing lotion step. I am a natural level 4, dyed my hair a level 3 and desperately wanted to be a level 9 blonde. HA! With the help of colorfix a box of blonde and some bleach I achieved it. I've gone back to brown now but I was happy to be able to play with the blonde for a while.

Only put your all-over color on for a few minutes, like no longer than it takes to apply and then immediately rinse it out. It grips really quickly!! We've found that adding highlights really sets off the new lighter color as you can tell through my 2nd and 3rd pictures.

my hair is naturally blonde and a few months ago i dyed my hair using a semi-permanent black/blue ..liked it for a while until my blonde roots started coming back in ..i planned on stripping my hair but found this instead and decided to try it out and im pretty happy with the product. i just used it today and it did what i expected it to do. took the black right out and turned my hair back to my natural blonde with red in it ..i dont have a problem with the red i just dont know weather its gunna change or not ..might dye hair lighter but im not sure yet. by the way i didnt use the processing lotion but i would definitly recommend this product. i will tell you that if your trying to get lighter from a dark color like a black then im almost sure your hair is gunna turn red but thats just something you can easily change ..im just glad the blacks out of my hair without ruining my hair because this product does not damage hair at all ..not mine at least ..it does smell pretty bad but its been a couple hours and the smell is out of my hair lol

WowOk first this is a total life saver. Ive been dying my hair black for as long as I can remembertoday date: 21-05-09 and I havent dyed my hair since December 2008. I had a really long growth and it was dirty blond on black. How lovely.

Im getting married in 3 months so I decided that I was done with black its so much maintenance and I always have to keep a tan so that I dont look sick all the time.

So after doing lots of research on the internet I came across this and decided to give it a try.

Just to put some facts straight:

1: When you mix equal parts of #1 bottle and #2 bottle make sure you mix a lot until you get a foamy consistency and apply immediately to hair (if you want it wont have the same chemical effects).

2: Test a strand of hair before.

3: After your test you can apply the product on all of your hair including your new root (growth) it doesnt change your natural colour.

4: THIS WILL NOT BRING YOUR NATURAL HAIR COLOR BACK!!!

5: If youre not satisfied with the colour I suggest you buy hair dye and color it to your liking (Make sure to buy a lighter color that what you actually want in your hair as the hair will absorb the dye faster because the hairs are thirsty)

6. Unlike bleach this product will leave your hair nice and smooth, just make to condition properly after.

7. I did not use step 3 (I was too afraid it would make them darker).

8. Product smells like perm product.

Here are my results:

Please note that Im waiting a couple of days before I dye them (I want to give them a break)

Oh and it does smell, but not that bad. DId it yesterday and the smell is almost gone.Hair doesn't feel damaged or anything. I think this is a great product and def. recommed.I am pleased.

do not use processing lotion... second picture is what my hair looked like after 20 minutes.
3rd Picture it shows a bit darker then what it was 2 days ago in the second picture. I can live with it though as long its not black. lol Its like a medium reddish brown, which i can live with. However i wish it would have stayed the color I had it after the first treatmen, which is shown in the second picture.

Before my medium/light-brown hair had been colored with Manic Panic Blue, which is actually a temporary dye that's *supposed* to wash out after several washes or so. Well, it didn't. The blue turned my hair green quite quickly, and never faded even after several long weeks. I dyed it 3 times: black, chocolate brown, and chocolate brown again.

The green never budged, quite clearly.

So. I used Colorfix, and I am very, very happy with the results. It removed all the coloring. Although there are two (2) things you should note: First, the smell is repulsive. It smells like fart. A really, really awful fart. And secondly, it makes your hair actually have far more warmer tones than it normally would have had to begin with (but with a toner, it can be corrected nicely).

In the end, it did its job and removed all the color. And for that I am thankful, and giving it 5 stars.

Well, I have been dying my hair with semi-permanent dyes for the last few years. I always use a color pretty close to my own (dark ash blond), just warmer and a little darker because my hair is so ashy that it often looks grey in the light. The dyes never completely wash out of my hair, but they fade just enough that I can wait 2 or 3 months before re-dying.

The last dye I used was much more red for a change. It looked great at first, but it faded disappointingly fast, and most of all at the roots! My classes are about to start again, and I didn't want to look like I had dyed all but the 2-inch roots of my hair. I could tell that I had several colors in my hair, so I started looking at removal products and decided on Colorfix after all of the reviews.

Due to the varied results, I used the stuff one week before classes. I was hoping for results that I wouldn't have to re-dye, and I got them! My hair looks great - warmer than my natural color because of the way the dyes before changed it, but a nice dark caramel blond. When it first dried, it was noticeably orange-y, but it calmed down by that night and had settled after about 24 hours.

I ended up using half of each of the 1 & 2 bottles on my hair (a little past shoulder-length) and left out bottle 3 completely, like others. I had used a deep conditioner the day before I used Colorfix and a lighter one right after it, but the first day my ends were still pretty dry. After just a day (the same time the color settled) the ends felt normal. I've washed my hair again, and it feels great, I am definitely impressed with how well this worked for me! It's not a huge before & after difference, but my dye wasn't that drastic to begin with.

Hello everyone!!!
Okay, I don't want to bore you with my long story, so I'll just "fill" you in. Here we go...I am a natural blond, well medium ash blond. About three years ago I dyed my hair dark brown, I loved it! That wasn't enough. I then dyed my hair black, jet black. Still wasn't enough for me. THEN, I dyed it a purple-red color, it was awesome! Still wasn't enough though, so I put dark blue in my hair, just streaks. So, my hair before I used this product was, are you ready: dark blond, dark brown, black, reddish-purple, and dark blue. I am thirty years old, and plan to attend school to become an RN, so I need "normal" hair (whatever that is). I used the one and only color fix, and I was afraid it would break or melt my hair. But I did it!!! I do have to say that it smells very bad, but not as bad as some people have described it. I left it one for twenty minutes, and I washed it out. I was so shocked. My hair was almost back! I decided to skip the third step, did not want my hair to get darker. SO, my hair is a dark blonde with highlights! My tips are a little dark, but I am happy with it. I get to keep some of my dark color.
So, if you are reading this, you are most likely getting ready to do this. Don't be afraid, if you read and follow the directions it should work. Be prepared for a bad smell, but that is because of the sulfer. Have fun and good luck!!!

Hi! Hope you can match this post up with the earlier one I posted on June 8, 2008! This is being posted two days later, on June 10, 2008. My hair had a delayed reaction to using the Colorfix.

I had been using a semi-permanent dye (Color Gems by L’Oreal), not a permanent dye, on my hair, before using Colorfix. (Color Gems goes on with a #9 developer, not as direct color.)

The shade of my hair before Colorfix was a medium dark brown. I had tried to go back to my previously brown hair after being blonde for a while. The Colorfix brought my medium dark brown hair to a lighter golden reddish tone. I thought my hair had been successfully lightened!

So, I sent in a nice, positive post, with 20 tips in it, to help others have whatever they might need, on hand, to try this product too, and suggestions for mixing it.

But three days after using Colorfix, I found to my surprise that my hair had darkened again, and all I did was wash and condition it normally. Luckily, I had not yet added any color to it.

It did not go back to being as dark a brown as it was before I used the Colorfix, but it is now about halfway between what it was before using Colorfix, and what it was immediately after using Colorfix. It later darkened to a reddish auburn, all by itself.

And, I did not use the Processing Lotion that came with the product, at all.

Attached are three color photos showing the shade differences. I took “before” and “after” photos of my hair with my cell phone, and then snapped some more photos 3 days later.

After using Colorfix, my hair was a golden reddish color, but this went to sort of a carrot cake color, and now to a darker reddish auburn, just from shampooing and conditioning it normally, over a three-to-four-day period, after using Colorfix.

I think this may have something to do with the way the product is said to “reduce the size of color molecules” rather than completely removing them, if I understand this correctly. I have not been able to reach the manufacturer to ask any questions. There is no contact number on the box and no one has been able to put me in touch with them.

But the distressing thing was that the color did not remain stable. I’m glad I haven’t dropped any other color over it yet. Before putting anything else on it, the color should be stable first.

So my humble suggestion to you all, if you use this product, is to wait at least three days before recoloring your hair. The instructions in the box say that after you rinse and dry your hair, “You may now proceed with your color application.” You might want to consider waiting, to be on the safe side.

Before adding color, you need to know what you’re starting from, and if this changes on you unexpectedly, you could end up with a different result than you were hoping for. I just waked up with darker hair.

I am now thinking of going to the drug store and getting a color stripper or remover that claims to completely remove the color, rather than reducing the size of the color molecules. But, this would be another chemical bath over my hair. My hair got way tangled after using the Colorfix, so it was chemically affected by using the product.

If I have to use a color stripper to get my hair into a stable, lighter shade, so that I can drop a little other color over it, then I might as well have skipped the Colorfix!

I’m not saying that this is a bad product. It might be fine for someone else, or on hair in different color or condition. People are welcome to try it if they would like to!

I’m just letting you know that this has been my experience with using this product. I was hoping to color correct my hair, but now have to go out and get something else to color correct this color correction!

In retrospect, using this product was an unnecessary step, unnecessary expense, an unnecessary chemical bath for my hair, and an unnecessary few hours for me to spend with it.

But, everything is a learning experience!

So, I am sending in this post, just to alert others that this can happen, because this is what has happened to me. May God bless you, good luck to you, and best wishes to you all!

Product Rating: 4 Successful lightening!

Hi! I had a successful experience with Colorfix, and wanted to do this post in hopes of helping others. Hope this helps all the sisters living in the U.K., where this product is harder to find than in the USA!

I was starting with medium dark brown hair, as I went back to brown after having been blonde.. Using Colorfix lightened my hair several shades, to a lighter golden reddish tone.

The accompanying photos show my home bathroom color setup, which may help someone! This is both review and some offered tips.

Tip # 1. It might be wise to give yourself two consecutive days, if you want to drop color over your hair after you lighten it. Then you can let your hair and your scalp “rest” overnight, before you do the color drop. You might want to do it on a weekend.

Tip # 2. Suggestions for ssembling a few essential things before you start! In the accompanying photo with the yellow Colorfix box, please note, in addition to Colorfix solutions:
-- a plastic bottle that shows ounces,
-- a plastic brush with plastic-tipped bristles (don’t use metal),
-- at least 3 pair plastic gloves,
-- 2 or 3 disposable plastic caps, a couple of plastic spoons,
-- a small plastic cup (to mix a little solution for your test swatches),
-- a timer that shows seconds (Target has some nice, inexpensive ones),
-- some plastic clips (can be useful if your hair is long), and
-- paper towels.

Tip # 3. In the photo with the pink towel and flowers, please note:
-- a good moisturizing shampoo for color-treated hair,
-- a color brush (which you may not need,
-- a rattail comb, and (jumping ahead a bit) your color swatches.
-- You also may want to have a cold soda ready, with plenty of ice (see rosy glass in photo!) and maybe some cookies or chips to munch on while you wait for the Colorfix to work on your hair!

Tip #4. And, wrapping up the possibly useful supplies list:
-- kleenex tissues,
-- a comb with very wide spacing,
-- a clock so that you know what time it is
-- clear tape and scissors for your test swatches,
-- a spray-on detangler,
-- long cotton strips to catch drips,
-- large plastic bags and clear tape, or a cape,
-- newspapers for the floor.
Seems like a lot of stuff? Maybe, but it’s all handy to have, once you start!

Tip # 5. Long strips of cotton are sold at beauty supply shops, or you can use a long roll of cotton from the drug store, but the Colorfix is drippy, so you’ll probably want something to keep it from dripping down your neck as you wait for it to act on your hair! Just tuck the ends of the cotton strips under the plastic processing cap! A pro tip!

Tip # 6. Have more than one plastic processing cap handy, so that if you do a second application on your hair, you have a fresh dry cap to use. Same with gloves – don’t count on reusing one pair, as plastic gloves can develop holes unexpectedly, or be hard to peel off!

Tip # 7. Try the Colorfix on small swatches of your hair before you put in on your whole head. With hair, it always helps to “look before you leap”! You can try a swatch with just Solution #1 (Color Reducer) and Solution #2 (Conditioning Catalyst), and another one with these plus some shampoo, to see if the mixture with the shampoo works on your hair. If you want to do a color drop on your hair after lightening it, do a couple of extra swatches for testing this later.

Tip # 8. Putting Colorfix on damp, towel-dried hair is less harsh, takes less solution to cover your hair, is faster to do, and the product still works!

Tip # 9. The shampoo, when used with Colorfix, provides a little “glide” that might help it cover the hair more easily, as well as extends the mixture. I tried a 2:2:1 ratio of Solution #1, Solution #2, and shampoo. One thing for a product wish list: it would be great if Colorfix included some shampoo with the package. Then customers would be assured of a compatible shampoo!

Tip # 10. It seems to be a good idea to mix Solutions #1 and #2 together first (I poured them into the plastic bottle with the cone-tipped cap, with ounces on it), and shook it up for at least a minute, then let it rest a minute to allow the two solutions to interact with one another, before adding the shampoo. The Conditioning Catalyst is supposed to catalyze with the Color Reducer. If you add the shampoo too soon, it seems as if it might inhibit the interaction between the other two solutions. This may be why others have had an unsatisfactory experience with using shampoo with the product – they may have mixed up the two Solutions with the shampoo at the same time. Then shake up the bottle for at least another minute after adding the shampoo.

Tip # 11. My hair tangled badly, after I rinsed the product out and shampooed it out, so a good conditioner was needed to detangle it. I had “matted locks”! I lost quite a bit of hair in the process of trying to detangle it, unfortunately, though I tried to be careful. Do be very gentle with your hair! A spray-on detangler might be handy to have on hand – there are some inexpensive ones available! But gently rinse any chemicals out of your hair before reapplying the Colorfix!

Tip # 12. I reapplied the Colorfix a second time, but not a third. It was on my hair for about an hour each time, but my hair never got as light as my test swatches did in the same length of time. Still, my hair lightened several shades.

Tip # 13. By applying the product to dampened hair, and using just a little shampoo (20% of total mixture) with it, one box was enough for two applications to my long hair, which is about 6 inches below my collarbone. Others report needing two boxes, but one box was enough for me, used as described.

Tip # 14. Learning from the experiences reported by others, I did not use the Processing Lotion – skipped it, just to be on the safe side.

Tip # 15. The odor of the product is actually a “friend” to you, because this can let you know when the product is mostly rinsed and washed out of your hair! You want to wash it out of your hair as much as possible before trying to drop any color over your hair.

Tip # 16. How should you apply the mixture to your hair? You may want to clip your hair into sections first (with plastic clips). The slim end of a rattail comb may help you section your hair. You may want to use a color brush. Or, since the product is drippy, you may be able to just shake the cone-tipped measuring bottle well, and sqooosh the product on with gloved hands (this is what I ended up doing!). A wide-toothed plastic comb may help you be sure that you don’t “miss” any segments of hair and that the solution gets on all of your hair.

Tip # 17. Have some damp paper towels handy, in case any of the mixture gets on your face or near your eyes.

Tip # 18. I didn’t use any heat on my hair, while using the Colorfix. I was worried that warm air from my blow-dry dryer might just affect the outer layer of my very long hair, causing uneven processing.

Tip # 19. There may be a little difference between the amount of solutions that are printed on the bottles, and the amount of solutions actually in the bottles. So, in mixing solutions, measure them out into the measuring bottles first.

Tip # 20. After lightening your hair with Colorfix, be totally sure that you don’t drop any color over your lightened hair without doing a test swatch first! Don’t go to all this trouble to lighten your hair, and then undo it all by a mistake in re-coloring! “Look before you leap” again!

Best wishes to you all, all the way from Colorado! Hope you can achieve whatever hair you are wishing for!

(Note: Some weird neighbors of mine seem to have hacked into my email, so if any seemingly duplicate or spiteful posts from others appear on this site, please just disregard them. No need to put any energy into this kind of activity from others!)

God bless you all, and peace be with you!

I have been dying my hair pitch black for a couple of years. I wanted to go to my natural color, which is a light neutral brown. I knew that because my hair is black, it would not automatically lighten to the color I needed. I did two separate treatments, using almost all of the product.

The fault actually turned out pretty cool. The ends of my hair did not lighten as much as the rest, but having the darker ends with a layered and stacked haircut is pretty awesome. The color it turned out is beautiful anyway, so I am happy with the way it looks, even if I didn't match my roots. But, I have to figure something out eventually because my roots are a lighter brown, with hardly no red. I will probably just use the system again later.

I am pleased with the results, and it is exactly what I expected from reading the reviews. OH, and my hair is healthier feeling now than it was before I did it!!!

I had dyed my hair black and it was starting to grow out, i had two options, dye it again, or try to remove the black all together. Decided on the latter obviously. I figured if it didn't all come out or i didn't like it i could just go black again, so nothing to loose right?
Wasn't too optimistic when i bought it, i've dyed my hair so many colors over the past 4-5 years. I've used permanent and semipermanent hair dye but it removed everything. I've been growing my hair out for a year and a half after an awful hair cut and i was ready to go natural. This was amazing. I am so happy with the results, it is practically my natural color, a tiny bit orange but i like it, i kind of look like a natural red hed. I got my natural highlights back!
I didn't use the processing lotion, and i was applying heat the whole time just to be sure it would work.
This product is completely worth the money and is really easy to use, just make sure you buy gloves, something to mix it with, a container to mix it in, and a hair net because it does not come with these things.
I am VERY pleased and will use this again (i love changing my hair color, i have not learned my lesson :P)

I dyed my (naturally brown) hair jet black for the Winter; although I was pleased with the results, as the weather got warmer and with root touch ups needed every 3 weeks, it was just too dark to manage. I then discovered that black hair is very hard to re-dye (uh-oh!). Resolved to being stuck with the black until it grew out, I happened to discover Colorfix on the web. I live in the UK where it isn't available, but I was so impressed by the reviews I took a gamble and bought some. It arrived in just a few days (thanks Folica!) and I did a strand test straight away - after just 20 mins I couldn't believe it, there was my old natural brown hair and no sign of the black! The product does smell a bit, true, but it's really no worse than any other dye or perm out there, and the smell does wash off well. Plus it’s very easy to mix and apply and you don’t need very much. I took the plunge and applied the product as directed (the 'full strength' way). I have a small confession here: I started with the top layers and I forgot that this would be on longest (also I got a bit distracted so it was on around 30 mins in the end!). When I rinsed my hair, the underneath was perfect - back to brown. However, the top layers had turned very auburn/red (I do have this colour naturally in my hair so it wasn't too much of a surprise and this was my fault for leaving it on too long on the top). I thought about dyeing over this, but decided it was a happy accident and left it, and now I'm really pleased with my hair and it couldn't have turned out better. It's nearly 2 months since I did the Colorfix and the red has subsided considerably (unfortunately!) but I'm now almost back to my old brown hair colour. My hair is just as shiny and strong and there’s no visible root growth at all. I would definitely recommend this product if you have unwanted dyed black hair, and Folica’s service was first class.

I have been dying my hair myself for over ten years now. It has been every shade that exists. And for the past several years, I have not been able to make my mind up. I dye my hair red, then I strip it out and go blonde in the hopes of restoring my natural dark blonde hair color.

This last time I went red, I kept it for about six months before I got sick of dying it. I usually pull the red out with Loreal Colorzap followed by bleach and it ends up being at least a triple process because reds are really stubborn. However, I knew I didn't want to fry my hair again. I'm trying to grow it long and didn't want to have to lose inches after stripping and bleaching.

So I researched and researched and researched. This weekend I decided to try Colorfix after reading every review I could find.

I'm thrilled. I mixed the color reducer bottle with the conditioning catalyst, saturated my hair (used all of both bottles but I have really really thick hair and it's shoulder-length and I'm paranoid about not having my hair saturated enough), and left the mixture on for the time the box suggested.

I threw out the processing lotion and didn't do the last step. I shampooed my hair several times with a neutralizing shampoo, then put a deep conditioner in it and went to sleep.

The first photograph is of my hair and my roots before I used Colorfix--the second is after. I'm not sure how obvious it is in the photo, but the Colorfix did not alter my roots at all, and I'm thrilled about that because I wanted to preserve my new growth.

I washed and conditioned it again this morning.

I re-dyed my hair tonight with Loreal Natural Match, a shade lighter than my natural dark blonde color, and it's really gorgeous. I'm glad I followed the advice of other reviewers and bought something lighter than what I was after, because my hair really soaked up the new dye and it would have been much too dark if I had chosen my true shade.

I ordered another box just in case I have another uncontrollable urge to go red and regret it.

Well my hair was extremely dark brown / black on the ends after a colour disaster using a med brown a few weeks ago.

I used colour opps last time but this time I thought I'd give Color fix a whirl (it was also on offer - bonus!). I spent hours on folica.com reading the reviews and I decided to go for it! Postage was shocking! Why dont the UK sell these products!!??

I did the full colour remove and left it on for 20 mins with a plastic shopping bag on my head! (didnt have a cap lol)

I am gob smacked at the results! Its gone from pratically black to strawberry blonde! Its a little a little brassy on top so need to run a toner thru it (what would you reccommend? I love auburny reds but not something too bright that the up keep is going to be costly!)

I imagine its what my mums hair was like (a natural strawberry blonde) when she was younger!

I used a fab shampoo and conditioner for thick coarse hair after and its soooo soft! (Joico Silk result)

The smell wasnt nearly as bad as Color Oops which lasted for days!!! - a bit like cabbage boiling but nothing too sinister!

All in all I'm very impressed and very easy to use!! Oh and I didnt do step 3 either!

anyways here's some pics....

i have been dying my hair since i was 13...im 22 now. i have been everywhere from blonde to black, red to brunette. i have curly hair and i straighten it. so my hair is not the healthiest. but, my hair was the darkest brown it could be before it was black. i did the full color removal, minus the processing lotion. i did it 3 times, but i really only needed it once. i just wanted to even out the color. you will want to wait a few washes before you try to dye it, and when you do use a protein filler because your hair will grab the color and it will grab it fast. anyways, i highly recommend this product. it smells awful, but it gets the job done and i think my hair is healthier than before i started.

Product Rating: 5 A Godsend! It works! IT WORKS! YES!

(in the pictures... the red hair is my mistake and the blonde is a day after using color fix)

I'm a very modest person. I have zero desire to draw attention to myself. I really don't know what I was thinking when I bought a permanent hair color called Hot Tamali Red. My natural hair color is dishwater blonde and I'm very pale complected (with freckles). The color on the box was beautiful... I figured why not. I never expected the results I got. Oh My Gosh.. It turned my hair literally HOT TAMALI RED!! I bought a box of the candies and compared... it truly was the exact same color. Now.. you'd think that I would be happy... OH MY GOSH!! It was the worse thing imaginable. I figured I was doomed... I went to a few different salons and called several more with the same results... with bi-weekly treatments and about $600 when it's all said and done.... YIKES!! I cried for 2 days... literally. I was devastated that I'd do something so STUPID!! I decided to do some research on the net and ran across this exact review list for the product "one 'n only Colorfix".. I read EVERY single review and decided to give it a try. Fortunately for me our town recentally got a Sally's beauty supply store. I convinced my Mom to help me and we went and bought the product ($13.99)... along with a mixing bowl, application brush and shower cap. I even bought a demi-permanent color to put on my hair in the off chance my hair was taken to a "blank" state. OH MY GOSH... this worked! It really really worked!! I was thrilled. Within minutes of applying the red was disappearing right before our very eye's. The results are amazing... It stripped all the red out and left me with a blonde that I LOVE!! We did NOT use the procession lotion as so many people suggested not to. I did buy a deep conditioner and applied it when it was all said and done. I am THRILLED with this product! Oh.. and the smell... it's actually not bad at all. It does smell because it is a chemical...but it did not leave a lingering smell in the bathroom. I smelled it on my hair...but not nearly as strong as a perm smell... and it actually smelled less than the RED I originally put on my poor hair!! I recommend this product to EVERY ONE that wants to get the permanent hair color out!! I did not use the dye I bought... I love my hair color just the way it is now!

PHEW!!

Thank you COLOR FIX!! TRULY A GODSEND!!

Total fix cost was $19.99 after purchasing a few extras that were needed! So much cheaper than the salon!
