What's the difference between clipless and spring clamp curling irons?
Most of us are familiar with the spring clamp curling iron, such as Hot Tools Professional Spring Curling Iron in which you lift the lever and place your hair between the clamp and the curling iron barrel. Clipless curling irons (sometimes called clampless curling irons) work differently. You actually wrap the hair around the iron while keeping the iron stationary. It takes a bit of practice, but clipless curling irons do provide benefits over spring clamp irons. Clipless curling irons like the Cortex Professional Digital 4-in-1 Ceramic and Tourmaline Clipless Curling Iron Set and the Sedu Revolution Clipless Curling Iron are highly rated and very popular.
- No clamp! You curl your hair by wrapping it around the barrel, resulting in no creases or crimps in your curls.
- Get closer to the roots. Wrapping your hair around the barrel instead of twirling the curling iron creates more volume in the curl.
- Save the ends of your hair from heat damage. Wrapping your hair from root to tip with the ends hitting the barrel last rather than first like in a traditional curling iron results in less heat damage.

How To Use a Clipless Curling IronClipless
It takes a little bit of practice to get the hang of a clipless curling iron.
CAUTION: Whenever using a clipless curling iron, be sure to wear the heat-protective glove on the hand NOT holding the iron and enlist other safety measures, such as the kick-stand and auto shut-off features, as necessary. Happy styling!
Step 1: Rough dry clean, damp hair. For extra protection, apply Sedu Anti-Frizz Polishing Treatment with Moroccan Argan Oil before blow-drying. For those with fine hair in need of extra-volume, switch off the ionic generator on your Sedu Revolution Pro Tourmaline Ionic 4000i Hair Dryer.
Step 2: Take a section roughly the width of the barrel (3/4" or 1" sections), brush smooth and begin to wrap near the base of the curling iron. Be sure to hold the curling iron down and keep the wand away from the skin surface. Continue down the shaft of the barrel until you get to the tip. Hold for 5-10 secs.
Step 3: Step 3: Slide the curling iron slowly out of the hair, allowing the curl to set.
Step 4: Repeat this through the remaining sections of hair. Set with holding spray.
