i received teh product and i used it without the antibacterial alcohol. it didnt go so well. i had major redness. i used the alcohol and the redness was much better but like the reviews it was still very red. kidna like mosquito bites. after the swellgin goes away you get a red dot that doesnt hurt ... it takes over a week for it to go away. so if your going to use this product DO NOT USE IT ON THE FACE. i garantee you will be mad! i suffer from hair growtth anywhere you can imagine ... so if u want hair to be gone on places such as ur armpit and knee.. then you found the right product
Fantastic!

I've tried professional electrolysis and laser hair removal, but wasn't happy with the results or the cost. Didn't have much confidence in this system, but thought what the heck. After a couple of tries I found this to be easy to use, very affordable, and I'm thrilled with the results. I've been tweezing and fighting chin hairs for years and I can hardly believe they're gone. I didn't really have the problems that other users complained about. Some people mentioned scaring but I didn't have that problem. Others mentioned the pain, but I used it on the 4th setting and found it to be bearable.I did have some redness and scabing, but that didn't last long. The instructions said not to use on upper lip, but I tried it anyway. It hurt way too bad to be tempted to do it again. I can live with waxing my upper lip.

.... but it is definitely working so far. Yes, you have to be patient, and sometimes do the same spot twice, but that could happen in a salon, too. I haven't experienced any scarring, only the red spots but they go away after a few days. And make sure you have a good pair of tweezers, nothing cheap.

I have spent thousands of dollars on laser, electrolysis, and waxing, not to mention the hours or tweezing. This product is a great way to save money on high priced treatments. I find it effective. If you haven't had electrolysis, you might find it "painful", but so far I can tolerate the tingling. I do get a lot of fluid with each pore application, but between post-application alcohol and cream antibiotics, I don't get infections. Overall, the cost, effectiveness, and ease of this product make it well worth the effort!
it works!

it lost one star because it is a bit painful and takes a while to learn how to use it, but it does work. to anyone that is serious about hair removal, no matter how big or small, try it, it works.
only thing that works

I have tried EVERYTHING for hairs on my chin and this is absolutely the only thing that has worked for me so far. It takes alot of practice and trial and error though, the first few months I had burn marks all over my chin and neck and then I just got better at it with time and the burn spots went away. If you struggle with unwanted hair and go crazy from it, this is a great solution and alot cheaper than laser, which doesnt work long term, and going to an electrologist which is very expensive. What I like about this product is that I can just use this instead of my daily tweezing and the problem gets better. I actually broke the last one I had and havent had to do hardly any plucking in the past two months!! This is coming from a girl who used to have to spend at least an hour a day with tweezers in front of a mirror. Just be patient, if the problem is bad enough, you'll put up with the burn spots that come with the trial and errot, cause in the end it is definately worth it.
Hard to use and time consuming

It does work, but one should ideally have at least three hands to use it, especially in the bikini area. Needle has to be held very still, which is hard to do while adjusting the current. It might work better if one has someone else assist in the process. Also, beware that the process leaves marks on skin. I'm still waiting to see if they will fade.
It works, be patient.

It can take a while to remove hair in large areas but it absolutely does work. my chest, abs, arms, armpits, hands, face, etc. are all completely bald. as a bodybuilder, daily shaving made my chest and neck break out badly. now they have been permanently hairless for several years. be patient. also, one laser treatmet for one bodypart will cost you 3 times as much as this machine.
well, i tried it...

I was not good enough handling the stylus thing to do it correctly, I gave myself a good hole in my eyebrow and a scab that looked worse than it actually hurt. It was worth a try but I am headed back to the electrologist.

It seems to work but the durability is questionable as the on/off knob is easily broken and very unlikely that you'll be able to glue it if it does.
I think it would work, but....

I used this product 3 times and I think it was working but...I have 6 children and my youngest is the hardest to take care of little 6 month old buster you ever saw! So I just dont have time to use it. It takes a lot of time and patience and all of my time and patience gets used up with the kiddos. Also my eyesight is bad and I needed a better magnifying mirror. I may try it again when the children are older.
It takes a long time

It takes a long time to remove the hair folicle. One important fact about the product is that you have to stick your fingers in water containing salt. This process is very tedious. After I finaly removed about 2 hairs I gave up. In about a week I saw 2 huge black marks formed on my skin. I would recommend this product to those whose have alot of time to spend perfecting the technique of hair removal.

Be sure to pull skin gently while treating, if the hair doesn't come out really easily it's not "done" enough. Make sure your salt/water is the right mix and to keep fingers moist. Be Patient, it takes a while but it's worth it.
I'm not going to lie, it hurts. But not THAT bad, no more than tweezing those stubborn hairs out.
Very good buy for the money

I just want to say one thing. You better have good eyesight! Before you decide to purchase any needle-based electrolysis unit, assess your vision and dexterity. Take a pin and practice placing the tip of the pin at the base of a hair in the area you want to clear. If you can't see well enough for that, you won't see well enough to insert the thin stylet into the folicle either.
My example is that I wanted to do my underarms. I've had laser removal done, and I wanted to do the pick-ups myself. However, by the time I stand in front of a mirror, A) I cast a shadow and dim my view, B) I have to leave room to manouver the stylet, and I'm not close enough to see!
Oh, and the other difference between this and a professional system is that this uses a current, where as high-end systems use heat. The professional system is able to kill a hair much quicker, because it is able to instantly heat the tip of the needle right down at the root of the hair. With a current-based system, it is electricity that generates the heat to kill the hair, but it just takes a longer time. This is why you need to get the needle down there, activate it, and then *wait* in order to really kill the hair. Trust me, you don't need to be doing the work twice.
Enjoy!
I love this product

I've had unwanted hair problems on my chin and my neck for years.....it seems to run in my family. And I just can't afford professional electrolysis. This product is amazing. It does sting a little, especially in sensitive areas, but it's well worth it to get rid of embarassing hair. I haven't been able to use it much since I purchased it just because I need to get a better mirror just for this, but I did get rid of a small patch of hairs on my chin that use to drive me nuts. It's been 3 weeks now and only a few of them have grown back and will need a second treatment. Words of advice though ladies (or men as the case may be) if you have tweezed or shaved in the past and the hairs you want to remove are thick, don't pay any attention to the directions that say the hair will come out easily. Even if you use this product correctly and it does what it's supposed to do...it's still going to feel like regular tweezing when you pull that hair out.
Patience a requirement

I have had my unit for about ten years and I would try to use it off and on when I could not get to an electrolysis. I was surprised to hear so many people said it had broken unless the newer units are not made as well. I am still waiting to give a verdict as I have just begun to intensly use the product since the cost of professional hair removal is so expensive. You do need to read the instructions, and you do need to have patience.Because the growth is fairly extensive I know it will take time. I do feel as if I can see a difference in the amount of hair coming in and also of the feel of the hair coming in. It is not as coarse.

I used laser hair removal and it works fine, except, some hair still goes back. With this product, you hit the the follicle, and it DOESN'T grow BACK!! It's great! The only problem I had was that the battery wasn't easy to pull out. I pull the battery out because I dont trust the dial on the product. Their's no click to asure that the product is off and it stopped working. Other than that, The product really works!!! Try it, and read the directions clearly, it really works, Janna.

I couldn't handle it

I decided to try this, since needle electrolysis is the only widely-proven method of permanent hair removal. To be honest, I couldn't get any hairs removed with this device. I'm sure it works, yes, but it is quite difficult to get right. You will need a very steady hand, and much practice to be able to insert that tiny needle just right into the hair follicle, and even then, you can't always tell if it's on target. I found the needle to be very invasive feeling, and it stung even when the power was off!
Like I said, I'm sure it works and I've heard of others successfully being able to use this... but I don't think I can put up with it anymore.

I used my home electrolysis unit as soon as it arrived. It does work well and I am thrilled to have it for intermittent use between visits to my electrolysist. It does takes skill and time to learn to use it correctly. Be patient as you learn how to keep your hand moist, keep the probe steady as it goes in and then pick the hair out after its been treated. I would also suggest a magnified mirror with a light. Overall the unit works well, the current is strong and Its less expensive than paying someone to do it for you.
