very difficult to use

I am not sure, but the product did not work according to the instructions. I used the product at 10 (after trying lower settings) and it did not work. I tried using a lighted magnifier and it made me feel dizzy. I wish that I had a better experience. I will be sending this product back. I spent a couple of hours trying to figure it out. I do not recommend.

Really Works

I have been using this product for a little over a month on level 1. The only regrowth I've noticed is a hair I didn't treat for the full 15 seconds. Some of the hair treated has been more than 2 weeks and some less and so far, no regrowth. If I plucked the hairs, they would usually grow back in 2 weeks.
I have had no problems getting the needle into the folicle. This could be because cross stitch and needle point are a hobby of mine. I have also let the hair grow out pretty long so the growth direction is easy to tell. I get the needle in under the hair no problems. If the hair is in an area that isn't visible, I would recommend letting it grow out longer so you can easily determine the growth direction.
If you get the needle in correctly, you do sometimes notice puss coming out. The skin around the area gets red and the area around the folicle does look like a small bite. After about an hour, it's just a small red dot. After about 3 weeks, I can barely see a small bump where I've treated. No one else would notice them, but I do since I know where they are. Pain while using isn't too bad most of the time. It is time comsuming and does take patience. I have course hair and have only been using setting 1 and it seems to work. Nothing else has. I've tried the kind with the tweezers and it doens't work. Hair always came back in 2 weeks with those. But with this product, so far, so good.

This product is a great alternative to the continuous profesional electrolysis experience (it never just takes one visit!). With this product, it is easy to zap one or two annoying hairs on the spot when they pop up rather than scheduling a appointment.
The product itself is cheeply made, but it gets the job done without a bunch of confusing buttons and gizmos.
The one criticism I have is that replacing the needle lead to bending the needle tip (for me) even though I followed the directions carefully. It also runs on D batteries which can be expensive.

It's good for the money, but it is so time consuming I have avoided it. It is also painful, but it works. You just need patience, and also you must be willing to endure more than just a little electricuting pain. So I rate it good for the price, bad for busy moms.

trouble with probes

If you can get the replacement probe in without bending it, this product works great. Unfortunately, the tip design is severely lacking, so much that it causes the metal tip to bend and making the probe useless.
Please redesign the tip.
Better than expected

I bought this product with heavy doubts in my mind, but it was cheap so i thought i might as well give it a go, over a year down the line i am hair free where i used it (pubic area) but i do have very faint pale marks which i had hoped would fade but seem to be around for good its not such a big deal as they're hardly noticeable. overall this product is great but as said by others requires a lot of patience and dedication.
I used to start the dial on 3 then after i inserted the needle i'd turn it all the way up as high as i could tolerate around 5 sometimes 6, leave it for around 10 seconds then move on, i could tell when it had worked on a hair because a white liquid comes out, kinda looks like puss from a spot. when that starts coming out u know that hairs gone for good.
Not a bad product at all.....

Tedious to use, but works very well with practice. Make sure you buy a good lighted magnfying mirror/lens. If you do not have patience, don't buy it. It worked very well for me. removed most hair, but be prepared to go back after a few weeks to get the ones you missed. Be careful of the fine hair like needle tip. It bends easily.
Happy with results

Works well if you follow directions. Discomfort is minimal and the hair-free results are worth it.
Working

I have always struggled with dark unwanted facial hair. While the product does cause pain and appears to require some skill in inserting the stylus, it does appear to be working. After a few applications, I feel that I have significantly decreased the amount of hair growth. I hope that after a few more applications the hair will be completely and permenantly removed.
Perfect!!

I practiced inserting the needle into the hair folical a lot while reading the directions carefully before actually going through with it. let me tell you. Read the advice section...it helps so much! i am very satisfied. none have grown back so far. and i haven't had any scars yet. so i'm set. even though it takes a lot of concentration and feels gross when you prick the inside of the folical(it kind of hurts and isn't comfortable). i would suggest some sort of numbing cream or something. but it works! and that's all that matters!
great

I was spending money on professional electrolysis and I STOPPED because this item is just as effective.Just leave the needle in for about 15secs and don't forget the salt water.

When I received the product the needles were bent and thats the gripe I have with the product.
if at first you don't succeed... try try again

I have had an experience on both sides of the fence, bad and good.
When I first received the product, i read the directions and went right into trying it. I tried it on the edge of my eyebrow between my eyes and left a "huge burn pit," by huge i mean: about the the size of a standard flat top straight pin. But I wasn't deterred, i have lived with this awful mustache for too long. I have blonde hair so it is especially hard to see my hair folical openings, so again if you want it bad enough you will put forth the efort. I tried the left and right of my lip line this time i got the probe into my hair folical but I spent such a bumbling time doing it that I still had a small external burn mark.
It's been two days and I think I finally have my technique down. My hairs lift after treating with no resistance and I don't make burn craters any more. What I ended up having to do is: not touch the metal pad with my salted fingers until the probe was in the folical.
I like others live over 200 miles from an electrolysist. I used to drive it and spend 80 dollars total for an 15 minute session including round trip gas. With blonde hair I am limited on my permanent hair removal techniques, laser does not work on unpigmented hair. I am extremely happy that i have found an alternative and I hope that the hair stays away.
The positive reviewers are right it takes a great deal of practice just to get started but your patience will lead to practical mastery. Good Luck to all.
Love it!

I love the thing and have recommended it to my sister and mother. You have to take your time with it and get a lighted maginfying mirror to help you. It doesn't hurt any worse than using tweezers. I have VERY sensitive skin and it has not left any permenant marks on my face unlike tweezing. I almost didn't buy it b/c of some of the other reviews but boy am I glad I did. It runs on a battery so you can take it anywhere. Start on a low setting and work your way up if you need to. You will love it don't be discouraged!! Go for it I did and have never been happier!!
It works, use anasthetic for the pain!

It takes awhile to figure out exactly how to slide the stylete into the folicle, all I can say is lots of practice. Once you have it down it does work. I've had hair not grow back for years! A professional electologist will tell you each hair takes at least 2-3 times so bear that in mind. As for the pain, I am super sensitive to it so I use a topical anasthetic, expensive but you can do a large patch with virtually no pain. Much cheaper (but time consuming) than going to a professional.
Excellent for price

I agree totally with the reviewer who said bad reviews come from:
1-people who aren't truly committed to removing their unwanted hair. 2-people who aren't using the machine properly (i.e., they don't take the plastic off the batteries, they don't use the salt water solution) 3-people who don't have a bad enough problem to make it worth the time and effort. 4-people with a very low tolerance for pain/discomfort
The truth is, it is difficult, time-consuming, and can be uncomfortable, or even painful to permanently remove hair that your body wants to keep---no matter what method you use! The difference between this machine & other methods is simple---$$$$! I tried professional electolysis with a very reputable company. I mostly liked the results, but did feel there was some regrowth. The problem is, after 3 sessions at $90/hr, I couldn't afford to pay my mortgage!
I tried an older version of this product once a long time ago on my bikini line, but I didn't feel it worked well enough to be worth the time and effort. However, since I started sprouting chin hair and cannot afford professional treatments, I figured it was worth another try---this time really giving it a good effort! Well, I have...and it is working BETTER than the professional treatments!
The downside: I have very stubborn hair, and have to treat each hair considerably longer than it says---45 seconds, usually twice. I know this is not the recommended usage, and I do get some pretty nasty-looking marks that last for a while as a result. However, my hair growth was always ingrown, and left me with scars anyway. At least these marks are healing, whereas the ingrowns were a CONSTANT problem. (just when one would start to heal, the new hair would start coming through again---I was getting "boils" all over my chin & neck from this---NOT PRETTY!)
As for "scarring"---If you are dark-skinned and/or tend to be prone to hyper-pigmentation, you could definitely be left with scars by using my method of longer treatment times. On the other hand, if you are a healthy light-skinned person who usually heals well, the marks should be temporary, esp. if you use Vitamin C (internally AND topically), and drink lots of water to promote healing.
As for pain---For me, some hairs are pinful, some are nothing at all, but most fall somewhere in between. I have been able to treat those stray female chest hairs with no pain at all, as well as some rogue belly hairs. Basically, the only ones that have been seriously painful were the ones that were ingrown, but they were painful already....and at least now they aren't coming back!
The bottom line is---yes, it's time-consuming...no, it's not easy...and yes, it CAN be painful. You just have to figure out if its WORTH IT for you! Now, if I can just find somebody to help me do the hairs UNDER my chin!!! I'm just not that talented! ;-)
Just not for my type of skin

I had really big wish to get rid of my unwanted hair at any price. After using the tool on my leg as directed, for 15 seconds on each hair, I had a really bad rash for two or three weeks. Now there are permanent light dots left which look noticeable (over half a year passed), and most of the hair eventually grew back, or it seems so. Even the rash didn't stop me, I tried it a lot, but the hair still grows back. Maybe I did not use it right, but I don't know better. My advise: please, do not use it if you have a sensitive skin, and don't EVER use it on your face to avoid scars!

okay so I'm thinking...this thing is probably working...it's just that I'm not too good with it yet. Some of the hairs are growing back but I think most of them are gone. I dunno yet...I really want this to work and I'll probably give it a good couple of efforts. But this thing hurts! There's a little tiny needle you have to stick into your (well in my case) face! I'm a guy trying to get rid of excess hair on my upper cheek area. MAN! you jab it in there...and if you hear a slight popping sound...then you know it's on it's way. Also...you have to "gently" pull out the hair...if it "tugs" you have to try it again.
