It does take time, however, it does work if you know how to use it. READ the instruction and make sure that you have it on a low setting for your face. Great money saver, anything cheap takes time.

Before Usage
I've done a few sessions of electrolysis with a professional so I knew what to expect as far as the process of removing the hair and the pain associated with the procedure would be. I suggest that anyone who purchases the machine goes to a professional just to get a feel for what they should be doing. The more prepared you are going into the usage of the product, the better the results will be. It's a give and take of purchasing at home spa products. You are giving up expertise and experience for a more economical service. The more aligned your expectations of the product are with the results the more satisfied you'll be. Electrolysis isn't a silver bullet for hair loss and requires substantial time and dedication. Familiarize yourself with hair growth patterns and stages, etc.
Common Concerns/Problems
After reading the reviews of the product here, I had an idea of what to expect in regards to possible concerns/doubts involved with the product which I will address. As far as the battery compartment is concerned, I didn't find it nearly as difficult to open as other posters claimed. It says open with a coin and if you have a penny on hand, the opening pops off quite simply. Another common complaint was the fragility of the stylet tip. Before purchasing the product I didn't even know what a "stylet tip" was. So for those that aren't hip to the technical jargon, the stylet tip is the small wire tip that is inserted directly into the hair follicle and carries the electrical current to hopefully kill the follicle. In appearance, it's akin to a mechanical pencil with the lead protruding and retracting into the pencil. The stylet tip is a bit delicate, but then again it needs to be. The finer the tip the easier the insertion into the follicle and the less damage to the surrounding epidermis. However, I found the tip to be pretty flexible when inserting and as long as you use common sense and care with the retraction of the tip when it's not in use, then I don't foresee any substantial problems. Another common concern is the the moisture level of your fingertips when using the machine. It is ESSENTIAL to the proper conduction of the electric charge that your fingers be moist. Once again, I think common sense can be employed here and it's not rocket science to figure out the correct level of moisture. I recommend keeping the salt water in a bowl and dipping your fingertips in the bowl, quickly dab on a towel and you're ready to go. With practice you'll also be able to FEEL the difference between the conductivity when your fingers are moist vs. when they are not.
Using the Product
Before using the product I suggest getting yourself prepped so that everything is ready and you can start without interruption.
Necessary Items
1. Shallow bowl of salt water
2. Hand towel
3. The best tweezers you have (The tweezers provided are decent, but I prefer my own and chances are you have a better pair at home).
4. Sufficient lighting. (The more light the better. If you've had it professionally done you know they use lights similar to a dentist or doctor as well as magnifying glasses. While I don't think that's necessary, the more light the easier it is to see the follicle)
5.* Optional * Magnification (If you have reader glasses, use them! Or a magnifying mirror can help for places that are more difficult to see)
Before beginning I would recommend that for anyone that is not VERY familiar with the product or procedure, that you "practice" on an area of your body that has pretty durable skin and that isn't too sensitive. When I received the product I started with the fine hairs on the top of my foot and a few of the hairs on my arm. The follicle openings are large and easy to see and you can gain a feel for what it feels, looks, sounds like. DO NOT START ON THE FACE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. Facial skin is incredibly sensitive and prone to damage. In fact I recommend that if you seek hair removal on the face that you leave it to professionals.
- When using the product you're going to moisten your fingertips, push the stylet tip out and gently place it parallel to the hair and gently insert into the hair follicle. The machine makes a very loud beeping sound when in contact with the follicle. You'll feel a slight burning/stinging pain while the current is passing through.
- Pain tolerance is very subjective from person to person, so it really depends on the individual. The manufacturer recommends 15 seconds and then 15 more if the hair doesn't remove easily. I found it to be easier to just leave it in for 20 secs more or less and the hair usually comes out. While the stylet is in the follicle and the electric current is killing the follicle a white substance will bubble up out of the follicle. No cause for concern here. Make sure that the stylet tip is inserted completely into the follicle. After the 20 seconds, the hair should release immediately or with very little resistance. If you pull and the surrounding skin is still attached, treat another 10-15 seconds and it should release. If the hair does not release, wait a few days and try it again. Overtreatment can damage the skin and follicle too much and result in what is known as "pitting."
- When you are successful in killing the follicle and the hair comes out easily, look at the base of the hair root. There should be a thicker base with either white or a black dot on the end, which is the root of the follicle that was damaged and released along with the hair. With practice you'll be able to recognize the difference between success and failure.
Drawbacks
No product is perfect and this product does have faults.
- The beeping while the product is in use is EXTREMELY loud. I put a towel over the product while in use to muffle the sound. Perhaps they could release a version that lights up when successful as opposed to the loud beeping.
- It is a very tedious process that requires time and dedication. For those that live in colder climates, it's the perfect for those winter days when you're stuck inside with nothing to do.
- Depending on what part of your body you're using it on, the skin has different reactions. The product can leave temporary red, raised bumps on the area that can last anywhere from a few hours to a few days.
The conclusion that I have drawn is that if you are motivated about the process and are realistic about what it entails and requires to be successful then you'll be satisfied with the product because of the cost benefit. Electrolysis treatments can be expensive and if you simply can't afford that and would like permanent hair removal then this product is a possible solution. Once again I recommend suficient "practice" on larger areas like legs or feet before moving to more to more delicate areas of the body. Burn type injuries leave the worst scarring and take the longest to heal so keep that in mind before your impulses to get your face hair free. Also plan for the worst in terms of your skins reactions. If you're going to do your legs, plan on wearing pants as opposed to shorts for the next few days. This product is not made out like an Ipod where you can just open the box and begin using it. It's a process with a learning curve and once you learn to use it correctly you'll be able to see the benefits.

I've had this product for a little while but I don't use it on a lot of hairs at once as it does leave red marks that dry out- much like overwaxing. If you have a lot of hair to remove I'd suggest using this product in addition to other hair removal methods- waxing/plucking. Doing too large of an area- especially on the face would leave a very large mark for a few days.
So at the moment, I'd say it's working but it's a long slow process.

I desperately wanted this to work. It doesn't. I think it's a travesty that folica has it listed with 3 and a half stars. I don't trust any reviews because I know this product is absolutely useless.

I bought this machine bc it was a great price and had many positive reviews. It does take patience but it works and is so worth it. It doesn't hurt. It's more annoying than painful. Also the first machine I bought just stopped working shortly after I got it and folica sent me a new one. The only thing is that the needles do bend very easy so be careful. If you have unwanted hair that really bothers you, then you should try this for sure.

Hi,
I have been using this for a while now. Spent ALOT on facial hair removal. Even laser which reuqired me to shave, once I couldnt afford laser anymore I was in a habit of shaving my face- not feminine and not effective! I used to do electrolysis beforehand but got fed up as I had to keep going back.
Now, I am very happy with this product. The first stylet bent with me but I got a hang of it with the second one. Replacement ones cost 6 for 2, so its not too expensive. And the fact it runs on batteries is even better. I use it on dial 10 as I have thick facial hair due to the shaving. It has left a few marks, like electrolysis did anyway. But I am happy with it and do recommend for you to buy a magnifying mirror and use two hands. One to stretch the skin and the other to use the machine.
VERY GREAT PRODUCT!!! LOVE IT!!! XX
working...

I have been using this product for about six months. The hair has grown back, but a lot finer. It's very tedious at first and takes a lot of getting used to.

I have used the machine once a week for a total of two years. Not a single hair in sight now. My legs are silky and smooth and no hairs have grown back for 3 years.
These results are not immediate. I used to shave and wax which only stregthened the hair folicle. So when I began using this machine,I used the highest amount of power which in turn left red dots (which looked like scars) on my legs. Once those disappeared, the hair grew back. I was persistant and kept on using the machine once a week cleaning off any hairs that did grow back and I would wait for 8 beeps to sound before removing any hairs. If the hairs would still be too tough to remove, I would not force them out but instead repeated the process until the root would weaken and the hair was ready to be removed.
Yes the machine does work, however I would suggest to use a low number in case you don't want to see red dots but understand that it will not kill the hairs as quickly. My suggestion is use this machine in the winter. Kill the hairs and be consistant. Clean up anything that grows back immediately and you will see results. Understand that years of shaving and waxing has only stregthened the roots of the hair and treatment is not going to take place over night.
The effort was all worth it now and I saved thousands of dollars. Silky, smooth legs are a woman's best friend.
Thank you "Clean and Easy Electrolysis"

I don't know what's the big issue..it works fine for me. It's tedious if you are a wookie. But it works. I do have tiny white dots where the treated hairs were... But I'd rather have that than tarantulitis. Some hairs dont treat the first time.. But most of the hairs I've done have not grown back after the first go... And I've had my unit over a year. Just use the needle and you should be fine. Tweezer units are useless. the only other time in my life I've done it was when I was 15. I'm 31 now... And those treated areas are bald still. it's hard work! Time consuming! But totally worth the effort in my opinion.
What a money saver!!!

I have been doing electrolysis for 8 years all over my body so I know exactly what it feels like. This system gives me the control of doing whatever hairs I want and not having to go to any appointments and most importantly spend any money. Before, I had to wait toll my next appt to get rid of unwanted hairs, but now I can just sit down in front of a mirror and zap whatever is bothering me. It takes a little getting used to (I started on my legs to get practice) but it is well worth it!!!! SO much cheaper than any electrolysis visit.
It does work, but it takes time and hurts

I used to have some thick, black hairs on my face, which being in my 20s is very embarassing. In 2006, I remember it well, I bought this product. Well, it was a smaller version of it. I had 16 thick hairs on the right side of my chin. I wanted to try on one side, just in case something bad happened. At least it wouldn't be on both sides of my face. I probably should've tried somewhere other than my face at first, but I didn't. It is a little awkward to get used to. Make sure that there is enough salt in the water. You have to have conductivity. I started with the energy low, would carefully insert the needle into the folicle with my left hand as it was being steadied by my right hand. Once I felt that it was in right, I would touch my wet right fingers to the contact. If you have the conductivity, you feel it right away! It hurts. The pain is the same amount of pain as plucking, but is much longer (for as long as you hold it in ther follicle). It is litterally burning the follicle. If you can just hold in there for the 12 secs, it does a good job of destroying it. To me the embarassment was worth the pain and I no longer have the embarassing black hair. They are now soft white hairs that match the rest. Sometimes the hairs don't go away on the first shot. Read about hair growth. Make sure that you get it in the growth timeframe. It has been over 2 years now, and the hair is still gone. I do have a bit of very minor scarring from some of my first attempts. It looks like oversized pores, nothing that anyone else would notice. If you have it inserted too far you won't get the follicle. If it is too shallow you will just burn your face. This is gross, but you can hear is when it is in the right spot and some white stuff may come out. Too much info, I know, but it's important to know. I wish that I had. You can expect little red marks or little red scabs that appear the following day and are there for a the next couple of days. Everyone will probably just think that you're breaking out. Don't do too much too close together. I am buying another one today. My last one is old and I lost the needles for it. On to the other problem areas! I just wanted to share a very candid and honest assessment of the product and let all of you decide for yourselves. I hope this helps

I have been using this product about once every 10 days for almost 2 months. Since hair grows in cycles, it's still hard to say how successful these treatments have been but I am determined to stick with it for at least another few months. My biggest complaint is that the stylet tip head bends easily. But replacement is still a lot cheaper than professional electrolysis. A good magnifying mirror and a steady hand are essential. The pain and redness are the least of it. I've healed just fine. It takes time but so does getting to an electrologist. Definitely worth the money and time so far.
DON'T BUY.

I was very patiently when I bought the product. I spend a lot of time at home, so I figure I will have a lot of time to try the product as many ways as it possible.
IT JUST DOESN'T WORK.
I fallowed the instructions on the manual, very carefully.
Believe me, I hate my hair and I was very confident I will try my best to stop out my hair of growing.
They said after you give the hair the "shock", it will be pulled off very easy. I did this. Was perfect, very patient.
Buy - GUESS WHAT - em 1 week, my hair had grown back!!!
Don't waste you time and your money.
ALL MY HAIR HAD GROWN BACK.

I was really hoping for something that worked at a great price. But no!! Couldn't manuever the needle in with one hand and if you finally got it where you wanted it to be if you tried to turn it on then the needle would slip out of the folicle. So I never got one hair removed.
Waste of money and time

This machine is over-priced and doesn't work. All that happend to me is, I developed little red itchy bumps, and the hair grew back over and over, It takes an extremely long time to use, and it's just a scam... Spend the money on real electrolysis or laser hair removal.. Don't even bother with this rediculous item. I should have known better.

I purchased this product a few weeks ago, and I have been using it a little bit each evening. I have not experienced any of the problems that others have mentioned. The pain is actually very minimal. I have noticed that it does leave red bumps, but they do fade. I have absolutely no complaints and I am very happy with my purchase.

i modified mine [i'm an electrician]several ways but the primary modification was to allow it to accommodate 115 VAC wall power [reduced to its input voltage of 9 VDC].
With practice, it is possible to become efficient with it.
I bought a spare unit, but have not needed to employ its use.
