I'm 58 years old, just to get that out there. See my photo? Looks like I'm lying, right? Nope. I'm fifty eight. My hair would be completely grey right now. But I absolutely guarantee it works. BUT!!! There is something youthair doesn't tell you. Or supply. You MUST buy an empty plant spray bottle, the kinds you mist your indoor plants with, so you can SPRAY this stuff on your hair. I use the liquid. Otherwise, its too difficult to apply. I won't wax eloquent on how well it works, just look at my photo. These are pictures of me in my living room RIGHT NOW in England. But I'm an American. You can't GET THIS STUFF in England. I brought it with me. When you use this, your hair MUST BE COMPLETELY DRY! I put it on in the morning on a weekend. I don't mind the smell. Someone was wigging out over the smell, some 31 year old. THIRTY ONE??? He's just a PUP! Wait till he turns 50!

Product Rating: 5 Pretty good, relatively inexpensive + great colour!.

I learnt to mix the cream with a bit of water because it's very thick. It forms in a hard helmet on my head which looks a bit funny. Lol. The hair which resulted was was very natural!
Best see the photo.

Product Rating: 4 How it works and only for dark hair
Reviewer: Eugene Brull from Redondo Beach, California  Wed Jun 17 2009

I have used YoutHair Creme for several years and use it as my only vanity pleaser. As a retired chemist, I'd like to explain how this works. The product DOES contain Lead Acetate whis sure to lead to lead poisoning if ingested. Apparantly it doesn't enter the body if just used on the body. Lead when combined with Sulfur forms BLACK Lead Sulfide. The skin & hair are made up out of proteins which are made of long chains of various Amino Acids. Of the many Amino Acids, a few contain Sulfur. SO! The Lead Acetate in YoutHair reacts with the sulfur in the hair yeilding a black color to the hair. I have found that the reaction is relatively slow as I do not wash the product out of my hair until at least 8 hours[preferably 24 hours.] I find that my black hair requires 2 applications 24 hours apart I leave my hair short [ to inches] but leave it until - inches before haircuts. The prodect seems to cover the gray hair between haircuts. I suppose that you could use more between haircuts, but after a hair cut, the blackened hair is cut off showing all the gray and YoutHair needs to be reapplied as I talkled about abpove.
Scientifically, from a chemist's view, I would think it will blacken blonde and other light hair. I would guess that dark brown to black hair are the prefered usage of the product. Blonde hair to black hair are chemically except that darker hair has more of Nature's black color (Melatonin)and lack of it yields white hair.

I am 58, am African American with natural hair and my hair became darker within a week, faster than it says on the bottle. I am sorely disappointed to see 'discontinued' on the page! Is this product truly being discontinued?

Product Rating: 4 worked pretty well for me
Reviewer: Susan from California  Sun May 17 2009

I am in my 50's and have gray hair mainly around the temples and forehead, though it is starting to pop up elsewhere. My hair is a medium to dark warm reddish brown.

I haven't achieved full 100% gray hair reversal but what I have achieved is pretty darn good. I no longer have white "old lady" hair, instead I have some golden blondish streaks. Big difference. One of the ladies who does my hair says the color looks "very rich." It's kind of cool seeing the various highlights of golden blonde and red in my brown hair. No foil required!

I use both super Youthair cream and the regular liquid. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

Personally, I think the liquid penetrates better and it's easier overall to apply with a spray bottle, but application can get messy and it'll drip so you have to be really careful you don't lean over food or valuable papers later. Also, you have to make sure the liquid doesn't run down over your cheeks or forehead, because you do have little tiny hairs on your face and your pores can start looking dark if you don't diligently clean the drips off your skin.

Another advantage of the liquid is that I feel I can "wear" it and go out to do some things, like walking a dog. People will just think my hair is wet and slicked back.

When I use the cream I mix it with some of the liquid to thin it out and make it easier to apply. You have full control over the thickness and consistency. I apply it with a toothbrush around the temple area first, then dribble it on to the top of my scalp and use a comb or brush to apply it more deeply. Dripping is really not an issue.

The disadvantage of the cream is that it's obvious it's in there, so I wouldn't want to be seen in public wearing it.

Initially, you have to apply Youthair A LOT, like, almost every day. I remember when I first started applying the cream and liquid combo last November, the white "skunk stripe" at the top of my forehead started looking yellow-blonde after 3 days. If you are skeptical of it working, I suggest treating only a part of your hair at first, and then comparing the treated hair to the hair on the rest of your head. That is what I did. The white hair around the temples started blonding, while the white hair on top of my head and toward the back remained really white by comparison. So I started treating my entire head.

After you have gotten your color to where you want it you can taper off, to maybe 2 or 3 times a week.

I do get my hair straightened (formerly by hot process, now by a cold process), and we suspect that (unfortunately) the straightening process removes some of the color I work so hard to develop. It probably has to do with the cuticle opening up. For that reason I also stopped doing hot oil treatments on my hair, and now just use a cold conditioner.

The thing I like most about Youthair is that this is my natural color, not some obvious fake color applied by your usual permanent hair coloring techniques. I don't have to worry about Youthair causing my hair follicles to develop some weird color that looks fake and doesn't suit me.

I dislike the frequency with which I have to mess with my hair but it looks good so to me it's worth it. My coworkers tell me they think I am in my late 30's and I want to keep it that way for as long as I can! :)

Product Rating: 3 Did it work?
Reviewer: Greg from California  Fri May 23 2008

It takes forever to work. 3 weeks on the bottle is WAY off. I called the company and they said it takes about 3 months. That is a severe misprint on the bottle. Unlike others here, I like the smell, but the product I have is from 2 years ago so it may have changed. Lead in the product worries me, but all hair products have damaging chemicals in them. It is not yet turning my hair back to dark brown, but what it is doing is changing into a lighter color brown/red. It would work a lot better on lighter colored hair. I will see if it works after the 3 months recommended.

Product Rating: 4 Nice product, but hard to find...
Reviewer: Anonymous from Hollywood, CA  Wed Mar 19 2008

Used to be able to find Youthair in any CVS or Walgreen's, but haven't had much luck lately. I like this product a lot, since it's a couple of bucks cheaper than Grecian Formula, and also seems to work quicker. I noticed that the new creme formula is a lot thicker than before, so if you tend to use a lot (as I do), it'll temporarily turn your mop into a waxy, uncombable mass until the next shampoo. Not very attractive, however I found that the new formulation actually works quicker, so it takes less time to get the old color back (which means less time with that waxy "helmet hair"). As for the smell, some people don't like it, however I prefer the smell of Youthair over that of Grecian Formula, which has an off-putting medicinal smell reminiscent of a visit to Grandfather's barber. Also (and this was a surprise), my girlfriend actually seemed to like the scent of Youthair. She didn't know I was using a color restorer, but always commented on how good I smelled whenever I was using it. (Even the cat seems to like the scent...)

Product Rating: 3 Every season is different
Reviewer: Gerry from Montreal, Quebec, Canada  Tue Mar 18 2008

Hi - I've been using Youthair since my early thirties and I'm presently in my sixties. I have a full head of hair, don't lose any, never had any dandruff, washes my hair daily with shampoo and conditioner.

First, I'd like to say that I preferred the older creme as it was thiner and much easier to use. The new formula is way too thick and you need to beat it out of the bottle most of the time. Why would Youthair take a good product and make a worst product out of it? The smell...I can live with but there must be a way for Youthair to improve on that too.

Second, in its instructions, Youthair says that sunlight will make your hair darker. Well I believe that they should really stress that point. Based on my years of experience I can say that Youthair combined with sunlight is the most important factor to get rid of your grey hair. When the UV index is high you can see the difference in no time. I really think that the UV index has a lot more to do with changing the colour of your grey hair than any shampoo or conditioner that you might use. When I leave Montreal and go to Florida in March for vacations, I can see the grey hair disappearing on a daily basis.

During the winter months, although I always used the same amount of Youthair year round, I find it almost impossible to get rid of my grey hair. During our winters the UV index is usually low, we also spend more time inside than outside and because it's usually colder in the winter we tend to wear a hat more often. However, as soon as late March-April come around, I spend more time outside, don't wear a hat, the sun is stronger and it really makes a big difference. You need to try it!

Basically, if you wear a hat all the time, sit in hotel rooms and stay out of the sun then don't expect miracles with this product.

My rating for Youthair: 5 stars for the summer, 1 for the winter, 2 for the smell, 1 for the thickness

Product Rating: 2 What did they change; and WHY????
Reviewer: Larry   Thu Feb 21 2008

I've used Youthhair for a few years and was quite satisfied until a few months ago. At that time; the product changed from a wonderful "Brylcream" consistency to that of Elmers glue. I just would like to know what they changed and why they felt the need to do that. I've bought a couple of new bottles of it to see if anything's changed...but it seems not.

Is their a mfg's rep that can answer my question?

Product Rating: 2 This stuff smells BAD
Reviewer: Michael from East Coast USA  Wed Feb 13 2008

Let me first tell you I am a 31-yr old male with slight greying on the sides. Reviews on this product looked decent and seemed less intimidating than Grecian Formula or hair coloring.

The first noticeable feature about this product is it smells... it smells a lot and it smells BAD. I read that people put it on before they went to sleep... I tried that but after one night my pillows stunk as bad as my head. I don't know how anyone can tolerate the smell.

Still, I hate grey hair and decided to apply some during mornings instead. Man, the smell distracts me all day. But I stuck with it eventually thinking it would work. After 6 months or so I can tell you that if my color improved it was very slight.

Maybe it tints the white hairs a little, but that's about it. The only time I think I got anything close to results is when I used A LOT... which I couldn't do consistently because the stuff smelled so bad.

Maybe I'm just more sensitive to the smell than most people; I'm not sure. But using this on a daily basis is TOUGH. With such minimal results and such strong odor I have to give this one a thumbs down.

The only reason I won't rate it lower is because I think it might have helped SLIGHTLY and I couldn't stick with it for longer than 6 months.

Product Rating: 2 Too gooey - like hair glue
Reviewer: Mike from Wisconsin  Mon Jan 21 2008

I have been using it for several days, so can't comment on the effectiveness of coloring hair. I have used Grecian Formula with good results, but decided to try something new. I didn't like the idea of Grecian Formula having lead acetate, but after opening the box, found that Youthair also has lead acetate.

I won't be using it much longer so I doubt I will ever know if it will actually restore the color of my hair.

This stuff is like Elmer's School Glue. I don't get it. How are you supposed to apply this stuff and step out into society? - and you are supposed to use this everyday for two to three weeks and then two times per week after that?

In my opinion, I don't see why anybody would use this gooey glue stuff when are liquid products that actually make your hair look and feel nice after you apply it PLUS restore natural hair color.

So, my comment is that Youthair is not practical for most people to use daily unless you stay home all day and don't see other people, in which case, there is no need to worry about hair color in the first place.

Product Rating: 1 Does not deliver
Reviewer: Don S. from austin, tx  Sun Aug 26 2007

I suspect that many of the good reviews are provided by the marketing dept. of the manufacturer. The fact is, the stuff does not deliver. It gave me a reddish copper color and did almost nothing to rid my gray hair. Save your money, if this stuff was any good it would be on the store shelves...think about it.

Product Rating: 2 Disappointed
Reviewer: Nolan Davis from North Carolina  Sun Aug 12 2007

I have used this product for several years and was very satisfied until I bought the last batch. The directions say to shake well before using, but the new bottles are so thick that it will not shake and requires a lot of effort to squeeze out of the bottle. I will not buy any more of it the way it is now.

Product Rating: 4 Smells Like Hell But Works Well
Reviewer: Dr. J from Tempe, Arizona  Thu Aug 02 2007

I've been using the product for about a year now. Used it for (7) days straight to begin with now only use it on weekends. The results have been very good. I had all kinds of problems with the quick color products. They worked but would cause my scalp to scab up and itch for weeks after applying. Eventhough this product requires more frequent applications it is definitely worth that effort. The smell kills my wife on the days I use it but it's the price you have to pay from keeping gray. One question I always have is what is the recommended length of time you need to leave the product on in order to achieve maximum benefits? Any information on that would be appreciated.

Product Rating: 5 Great Product
Reviewer: Bill from Florida  Tue Jul 31 2007

I have been using Youthair for 15 days. It is excellent. At first, I didn't put enough on. I started by putting a good amount on my hands and wetting my hair while it is dry. Not soaking wet but you must have some liquid on your hair. I am 55 and my hair has been grey since my 40's. Lately, it has been turning white in spots and I was looking for a cure. Youthair has turned my hair darker. I intentionally am keeping some grey. Now I'm using it much less. I use a mirror and touch up here and there. It really works. Took me about 5 days to be a believer. Youthair is the best solution for ongoing use. Take it slow and trust me, it really does work.

Product Rating: 5 The Very Best
Reviewer: Ron from Port Charlotte, Florida

My mother used this product for about 20 years and never had to have any coloring. She had a natural youthful look. As a man, my hair started turning gray and before it got to far along I started using this product. Having dark blonde hair that bleaches lighter in the sunlight - I used the product heavier on the sides and less often on the top. Just barely do anything on the sideburns. It appears like the starting of gray in the sideburns, but natural hair otherwise with the highlights on top. No one has even ever asked or guessed that I use anything - I've had some say that its amazing that I don't have more gray hair - now at age 62. I only need to maintain 1 to 2 times per week. Youthair is the most natural product you can want - doesn't even look like a color.

Product Rating: 5 Excellent results - geeky greasy hair
Reviewer: Anonymous   Fri Mar 23 2007

I followed the customer tips and washed my hair with a shampoo for color-treated hair. I only conditioned the (non-gray) ends. I got results before the first week was up!

After two or three weeks of using it, I still have some gray, but not as much. My hair looks better this way. I had a lot of gray at my temples, and now that area is salt-and-pepper instead of all gray. Plus the gray area is smaller. The fact that my hair is darker means that a small area of hair loss is more noticable, but oh well.

A drawback of the product is that it makes my hair greasy. It's not so bad when I've just washed my hair, but if I use it two days in a row without washing my hair, it starts to look pretty geeky. I don't usually wash my hair very often, so this is an annoyance. After the first week of using it, my hair looked a little better, so I started using it less. I just put a little in, then don't add anymore until the day before I'm going to wash my hair. I also get some sunlight after using it, like the customer tips recommend. Fifteen or twenty minutes seems like enough.

I'm planning to use more when I have the chance to hang around in the sunlight with greasy hair without having people notice me. I'm hoping to get rid of the rest of my gray by doing this for a few days, since it works fast for me. It's also better if I put my hair back in a ponytail so the greasiness isn't so obvious - plus it keeps the gray exposed to the sun. I have long, thick hair, and I don't use a lot, but I'd rather use enough to get rapid results.

One thing I like about this product is that it actually worked better for me than hair color did. Since I started getting a little bit more gray - more than the dozen hairs I used to have - I wanted to cover it. I was surprised to find out that shampoo-in hair color didn't seem to work very well to cover the gray. I used a brand that was widely recommended, and it didn't seem to do much of anything! I had already been using a tint designed to brighten color between shampoos, so maybe that made it so the color wouldn't adher. Whatever the reason, my gray was just about as obvious as it had been before I started trying to cover it. The Youth Hair worked a lot better. It actually covered the gray better than dye, and I don't have to worry about matching the color. Although I kind of liked going with a softer color. The effect is pretty natural. I think it will look even better after I use it some more. I can probably soften the color by using the lighter tint over it. That's a nice effect since as one ages, the skin loses its brightness and one looks better with softer colors. But I'll wait to do that until I've achieved the gray coverage I want, since I don't want to interfere with the Youthair cream.

I am concerned about the lead in this. I thought it might be making me feel a little funny. I want to get rid of the gray so much I went ahead and kept using it. It hasn't been bothering me. I'll use it just enough to keep the color, and that's not a lot. A bottle will last a long time!

I'd recommend this. It works really well for getting rid of gray. Some day, I'll be ready to go gray, but not yet!
