It took far to long to heat up -- both on U.S. and Europe electrical systems -- and was not nearly as good as the two other U.S. flat irons my daughter and I own. Performance was comparable to an inexpensive flat iron I bought for $25 (and returned) at discount store. I wish I had returned it. The cord has a large, heavy, and bulky box that holds the transformer.
Pretty good although inconsistent

The iron's performance seemed inconsistent, but overall, I'm glad I bought it. I took it to 3 cities in Australia. In Sydney, the iron did not got hot enough, but if you close the iron tightly, you can get decent results. I had to turn it all the way to 450 and even then, it wasn't as hot as my sedu which heats up to only 270. However, in the other 2 cities, it worked great, it heated up quickly and was HOT. Thanks to the Solia, my hair turned out pretty good in all my vacation photos! :-)
Good Enough...

I decided to go dual voltage because I'm studying abroad for semester in Spain (4 mo.) and didn't want to either go without one nor buy a cheap one there. It's not nearly as nice as my sisters' Chi, but gets the job done. I can definitely tell it doesn't get as hot as it could if it weren't dual voltage. The other thing I noticed that no one else seemed to comment on was the transformer has a fan in it that makes noise when it's plugged it. Not a big deal- it just surprised me. That black box is also really annoying making the straightener much less portable- but I don't know if you can escape that if you're going dual voltage.
I have very wavy hair and it takes a while to get it straight and I wouldn't replace a Chi with it. It does perform much better than any of the cheap grocery store models I had when I was younger though. I can't say much about the dual voltage performance as I have not used it overseas yet.
Do not purchase-multiple problems!

The first iron I received didn't heat up so Folica sent me a new one. However this one did not heat up at all. I received a third iron that worked (for a time), however 2 weeks into my trip to Europe it broke and only one plate worked! I had to borrow my room mate's cheap iron for the rest of my 6 week trip. In addition to the problems with the iron, the plug adaptor didn't fit in French outlets, I had to purchase a new adaptor when I arrived. My advice about this iron is do not purchase it, there's a reason why there is a 1 year warranty and it's because it is not good quality or reliable. Now I can't even exchange it for another one and I wasted my money.
Great flat iron for international travelers!!

I purchased this flat iron to take on a trip to China and it worked just fine. I have very thick natural curly hair and have straightened my hair for some time now. My original flat iron would not work in China (wrong voltage) so I purchased the Solia Universal Dual Voltage one to take on the trip. Works very well, but wish the iron itself was a little wider and larger in general...takes longer to do my hair than my other flat iron. Also it could use to close a bit tighter when you squeeze it on your hair, but it works well enough. I was very satisfied with the end result and had no problems with the voltage converter....it even comes with a plug to convert the prongs too. I would definitely recommend this item especially if you travel internationationally like I do.
