I used this flat iron when I traveled to Europe. It did not get hot enough for me (I have thick, coarse hair)even when I used the hottest setting. Maybe it works only for thin, fine hair but not for me. The black box transformer was very heavy for the trip and not very convenient for travelling at all. I purchased this for a recent trip to Belgium & France. The flat iron worked fine & seemed to get plenty hot. Yes, it comes with bigger than expected converter box which makes it kind of heavy & bulky for travel. I was going to buy a flat iron in Belgium but knew I was short on time so this was my best option. I like that it came with the attachment to use in the car, a good idea for sure. its not the best as far as solia or sedu goes...it definitly doesnt get as hot, probably due to the voltage adaptions and all. but it works average...better than my wet 2 dry conair type straightner I bought at target a few years ago (yea its still working tho!). so this solia I got for traveling...which I dont do much....and my car. My hair is thin and waves out if it sprinkles or is humid. or any bad weather period. so I use this in my car for touch ups real quick....it has been great for that! The iron's performance seemed inconsistent, but overall, I'm glad I bought it. I took it to 3 cities in Australia. In Sydney, the iron did not got hot enough, but if you close the iron tightly, you can get decent results. I had to turn it all the way to 450 and even then, it wasn't as hot as my sedu which heats up to only 270. However, in the other 2 cities, it worked great, it heated up quickly and was HOT. Thanks to the Solia, my hair turned out pretty good in all my vacation photos! :-) I decided to go dual voltage because I'm studying abroad for semester in Spain (4 mo.) and didn't want to either go without one nor buy a cheap one there. It's not nearly as nice as my sisters' Chi, but gets the job done. I can definitely tell it doesn't get as hot as it could if it weren't dual voltage. The other thing I noticed that no one else seemed to comment on was the transformer has a fan in it that makes noise when it's plugged it. Not a big deal- it just surprised me. That black box is also really annoying making the straightener much less portable- but I don't know if you can escape that if you're going dual voltage. I have very wavy hair and it takes a while to get it straight and I wouldn't replace a Chi with it. It does perform much better than any of the cheap grocery store models I had when I was younger though. I can't say much about the dual voltage performance as I have not used it overseas yet.
