when using overseas

I brought my solia to the UK with me as I really can't live without it, so I bought a converter to use in the UK..and the only thing I can say is DON'T DO IT!! Because of the voltage difference, the iron went twice as hot (i usually use it on the highest setting) so not only did I run it over my hair and it sizzled, but the entire iron melted right in front of me and almost burned down the room! SO my tip is to leave your beloved iron at home! I am now going to purchase the pink solia to replace that little mishap!

frizz free!

I used to straighten my hair, then put a lot of products on it to keep it straight. My hair would almost always be frizzy within an hour, and I couldn't figure out why! I asked the lady that did my hair, and she said that some products actually draw moisture to the hair!!! My tip would be to put any frizz cream or shine serum in your hair right after you wash it. Then straighten it, and your hair should stay pretty smooth.

Cooler Setting, No Product
submitted by: anonymous, Fri Apr 28 2006

I was concerned about using a hot iron on my hair, so I looked for a product to protect it. There are, in theory, products specifically for hot irons that protect hair to 450F (if you believe the claims of the products): Paul Mitchell and Matrix are the only 2 brands I found who make such a product. I ended up buying the Matrix product called "sleek.look".

The problem is, though, my hair got greasy and gross at the end of the day when using the product. Basically, if I use the sleek.look, my hair needs to be washed the next day. But if I have to iron my hair after each time I wash it, that means washing and ironing it each day, which can't be good for the hair.

So instead, I use the iron at a lower setting, between 300F and 350F, with NO PRODUCT. The iron does a GREAT job, and my hair stays nice and straight until I wash it again 2 or 3 days later. I occasionally have to touch up my cowlick, but that's all.

Hot Hair

I've been using this routine before I got the Solia straightner.

-At first you use shampoo and conditioner (I prefer Garnier Fructise Dry and damaged hair). Make sure you wash out the shampoo before you apply the conditioner. I apply the conditioner and then wash my body, etc. Then I rinse it out and divide my hair into two sections.

- When my hair is still wet and divided into two sections, I apply (Pantene PROV hair mask against dry and damaged hair). I keep it in my hair for 25-30 minutes. I then rinse it out with cool/cold water.

- After rinsing my hair, I use the towel to get all the water out of my hair very gently using downward motions. Then I apply (Brilliant Brunnette Shine Serum) on my hair and consentrate on the ends. I love that product because it doesn't only make your hair shiny and smooth but if you apply it when its wet it fixes the split ends.

- Then you may either blow dry your hair or let your hair air dry. I prefer air drying because you dont damage your hair. But if you do blow dry...dont forget to use hair protectant spray.

- When my hair is dry... I separate it into sections.
I first divide my hair into two halves (left and right).
Then I pick up the top part, and divide that into 2 or 3 sections.
First I spray HEAT PROTECTANT spray (Got 2 be smooth and healthy. Its in an orange container) And soak each section with it.
Then I straighten the bottom section first
I move up to the top and straighten each small section
Then I do the same thing with the other side.

- After your hair has been straightened, I apply (Brilliant Brunnette Shine Serum) once again on my DRY hair. This makes them ultra shiny and gorgeous.

Woila! And its done. My hair looks gorgeous and silky and straight.

Oh and by the way I deep condition my hair ALMOST every time I wash them.

keep your hair healthy!

Im a hairstylist and i fry my hair like crazy. to reduce damage in your hair when taking such extreme heat to your hair, its best to use a protein filled shampoo and conditioner, and deep conditioner. paul mitchell super strong works great for that. Using a good protectant like biosilk works well also because the silicone base coats your hair enough that the heat is not thrashing you, and it makes your hair smoother and shinier. and i see it often that my clients are holding the flatiron on their hair more than 2 seconds, always keep the flat iron moving dont let it sit on a spot, which will cause the blisters on your hairshaft. hope these little tips help!

For having my solia for 9 months and experimenting with diffrent tecqniques I have found that the following is the bestafter doing the following my hair is bouncy, shiny and not greasy. It is beautiful.... so anyways my hair is relaxed and this is what I do:
first after washing and drying my hair with motions shampoo& conditioner (very good) I then put Motions oil mostirizer in my hair (quarter size)I put Tresseme instant heat tamer in my hair (spray) after spraying it all over i brush it though while my hair is still damp . Then I get a blowdryer and a comb and completely dry my hair (do not skip that step!) it will look worse if you dont blow dry.) I use a very low setting though. Then I get my Solia and seperate my hair into sections and starighten my hair from root to edges. After I am finished I get motions oil sheen and conditioning spray. and comb my hair and voila my hair is beautiful..... I just love toching my hair

The ULTIMATE stright shiny hair
submitted by: Kadie, Mon Feb 06 2006

Ok, the first problem many peopel are having is THEIR IRON IS TOO HOT! Unless your hair is incredibally thick and curly you dont need 450 degrees of frying power (even then i would suggest a lower heat setting if possible) also, you dont need to pass over the hair 20 time for it to be stright, when its stright, its stright. Second, you need product, something that will protect the hair while giving it shine at the same time. I would recommend you use Bain De Terre recovery complex anti frizz shine serum. Put it in each section before strightening. It will give you max shine plus small nanospheres in the product are heat activated repairing damage and giving off maxium shine. It also works thought the day for long lasting frizz-free shright hair

If you have long curly hair or short thick hair it is best to do your hair in layers. If you have frizzy hair you could
you could do either. If you have long almost straight hair it is best to do your hair without layers.

Thick African American Hair in Philly

My hair is very thick and it's cut short.I have a color rinse in my hair and a relaxer.I shampoo my hair with Pureology Hydrate shampoo and then I use Pureology Hydrate conditioner(I recommend using these products even if your hair is not color treated. They are sulfate and salt free).
I use Pureology Colourmax detangling spray and the original Infusium 23 leave in treatment.Next I mold my hair(the oldschool but faithful wrap set) while it is wet in the direction that I want to curl it.I use Sanek neck strips and a hair net to keep my hair smooth while it's drying(sit under a hooded dryer until your hair is completely dry).
After my hair is dry I use Biosilk Silk therapy to loosen the set.The next step is to smooth out my hair in small sections using my Solia iron. Then I spray Lusters Glosser on it(Made by the company that makes Lusters Pink oil moisturizer.) After this I use my Solia iron to curl it. Mizani Shyne Bodifying Sheen spray gives my hair that fresh from the salon smell and I'm good to go. My hair is soft, silky, shiny(not greasy)and fabulous!!!!

The Best Hair You Will Ever Have!
submitted by: Samantha, Fri Oct 14 2005
33 of 47 people found this tip helpful.

It took a long time before i developed this routine but now that I have I must say how fabulous it is. I first watch my hair with Garnier Frutis Shampoo and Conditioner for dry, frizzy or rebellious hair (occasionally I use Loreal Vive Shampoo and conditioner for dry, frizzy or rebelious hair). Next, I towel dry my hair and when my hair is no long soaking wet, I apply a dime size amount of sleek.look by matrix (the light version). This product is the very because it not only protects against frizz, but it also protects your hair for temps. up to 450 degrees! I then blow dry my hair staight using a round brush, doing it in layers. After my hair is dry, I put in a dime size of biosilk and iron my hair with the Solia at 370 degrees. Keep in mind, that if you different shampoo or conditioner, you will still have the same results. Pick a shampoo+ cond. that best suits your hair and the one u get best results from. Hopefully your hair will turn out just as healthy and smooth as mine have! Good luck :)
