It's OK...not great

I've owned my Solia for about a year and a half now. It really isn't all it's cracked up to be. It does feel very cheaply made, and the plates DO NOT line up correctly. There is a gap at the bottom of the plates when you close it completely. It also snags my hair form time to time. It heats up quickly, but as far as results....I am not impressed. This is why I am researching to buy another (brand) of flat iron. My Solia straightens my hair, but there are still waves and frizz left over. I use very expensive salon products, to no avail. I live near the GUld Coast so I deal with extreme humidity all the time. The Solia does nothing to help with that. I can spend an hour carefully ironing my hair, and as soon as I walk outside...POOF! I would not recommend this flat iron.
even after 4 years of daily use, better than my chi

I got my Solia for my 14th birthday. I am now 18 and am still using the very same flat iron. It works better than my Chi or any other flat iron I have ever used at any salon. I have very thick hair and this is the only straightener that really works. To this day, I prefer to use my old beat up Solia to any other flat iron even if the others are brand new and of excellent quality. My 4 year old Solia is amazing.
Definitely not the best

Pretty disappointed with this flat iron. It pulls my hair and takes quite a few strokes before it actually does anything. I wasted my money, and now I have to buy something else.
I'm returning it!!

I was very excited when my Solia arrived, but much to my dismay--I am extremely disappointed! I had a FHI that I loved but only had for 3 years before it died on me. I was reading reviews and decided to try the Solia. I wish I had stuck with the FHI because it did a much better job. I like to curl my hair with the flat iron (as the waves last MUCH longer than with a curling iron!), but it was almost impossible to do this under an hours time because the cord does NOT swivel like the FHI did! I had to continually stop curling and untwist the cord. Also when I tried straightening my hair, it had this weird kink in some places. Not sure why this happened as I am pretty accustomed to straightening hair. I am going to return this product, and go back to my FHI. Stick to what works for you...it's NOT the Solia.
Pleased

I read a lot before I selected the Solia. I'm totally pleased with my purchase. It's light and well made. I have fine straight hair but wanted it for the lift, shine and curve. I can curve my hair under in seconds. It's fun.
It was okay, nothing special!

I just ordered the Solia 1" and tried it out, and honestly...I dont know what all the hype is about! I dont see it being any better than any other flat iron you buy for like 30 bucks! I mean i already have straight thin hair, so basically all I wanted it to do is make it silky soft and very shiny, which it didnt do that great! I think I'll stick to my Paul Mitchell!
Awesome, for the first month or so.

I bought this flat iron for a friend in late December. It was shipped in a timely manner, and I received the product about a week after I placed the order. My friend ADORED this straightener while he had it. It was very well taken care of (as far as I know), and it didn't have any issues. About a week ago (today is February 8th), my friend told me that the light on the iron had gone off, and then it stopped heating up. WOW, we were really upset. This kid's hair has... some issues... and this straightener did amazing things for it, but it's worthless when it doesn't work! I'm disappointed...
Like the Chi, but better!

I am a serial on-line shopper and I've never written a review until now. I really like this iron. I have long curly/wavy mixed hair to the middle of my back and it gets really poofy when I blow dry it. I've had the original 1' Chi for over a year now and once I figured out how to use it properly (with bio-silk silk thearpy) I loved it. It would leave my hair shiny/straight, even with bad weather The only problem was I noticed my hair which is usually pretty healthy began to have a lot more split ends! Like a whole lot more. So I finally decided to get something with an actual temp control. I researched for about 2 months, and it came down to the Sedu vs the Solia. I finally decided to go with the Solia b/c it was cheaper. I've had it for about 2 weeks now. It works just as well as the chi for my hair, I can keep it on a lower temp and so far I don't see the same level as damage. The chi damaged my hair so much I would have to clip it every two weeks. The solia also works just as well with or without biosilk. If I used the chi without biosilk it would leave my hair really dry. I am only giving four stars b/c I haven't had it long enough to see if it will last, I am a huge klutz and I already dropped it. I dropped my chi all the time and it's still working, so hopefully the solia will hold up too.
FELL APART!

I had my solia straightener for just 2 days over a year when it started falling apart!! first the cord that attaches to the straightener fell out, i kept putting it back in and in again but i eventually semi-fixed it by wrapping in between the straightener and taping it. Then the day after that one if the plates fell loose. it was still attached but completely popped out and i would have to try and place it back in, but it would just fall back out again and my hair would get caught in it..ouch. Later on that day the other plate decided to pop out. soo now i have a straightener with two plates barely hanging on and a cord that wont stay in. DO NOT BUY!!!!!
Love it!

I've had this flat iron for 2 1/2 years and it still works great! I've dropped it countless times and it is still as good as ever. I use it to straigten my daughetrs hair(no more hot combs)and she loves it too. I would recommend to anyone, can't beat the price and it doesn't snag or pull your hair.

i got this iron about 1 year ago. for some reason it broke over the summer, but the company sent me another one. i have VERY curly hair, and this iron has been the best iron i have ever used. it usually took my an hour and a half to do my hair. but with this iron, it takes about 45 minutes. my hair is always silky and smooth after i use it. it is DEFFINATLY worth the money.
Amazing!!

I've had this straightener for almost four years before it finally stopped working. I really didn't expect it to last that long! I guess I just wore it out. I've used in on a regular basis; almost every day. It's a lot more gentle on hair that any other straightener out there in my opinion. Well worth the money, and I'm definitely going to buy another one!
Sedu is much better

I purchased the Solia 1" because of all the good reviews for the product. I should have stuck with what I knew. I own a Sedu 1.5" and it is a far superior flat iron compared to the Solia. At 300 degrees the Solia barely straightened my hair. Worse, my hair was getting caught at the edges of the plates and being pulled out or snagged. NOT FUN! I returned the Solia back to folica.com and ordered the 1" Sedu.

I had been using the chi for years, and after having too much trouble with the cord being loose all the time I decided it was time for change. After reading and doing ALOT of reviews and research I decided on the Solia.
I have been using the same iron for almost 2 years now with no problem. I don't have to have my hair trimed as often because it is less damaging.
The only complaint I have is that I purchased the 1 1/2 inch iron and I had cut my hair right before I bought it and I find it too big or heavy but I am managing:)
(Tip: do not wrap the iron's cord around the iron, I find this is what makes the cord loose on any iron).
Stopped working!!

I bought my Solia flat Iron from Folica.com a little over a year ago. I might have used it 10 times, max. One day, I plugged it in, turned it on and....the light didn't come on, it didn't heat up, nothing. Unfortunately Folica can do nothing about it because: a) They can't find my record of purchase on their system, and; b) Solia flat irons only have a 1 year warranty. So I'm out a lot of money and only got to use the darn thing a few times. When it was working it was great.
I dont suggest buying this Flat Iron...

I bought this 1' Solia Ceramic Ion Flat Iron 11/15/07 and 12/3/08 this 85 dollar Flat Iron has totally stopped working. My teenage child loves this Flat Iron and has been so upset that it has stopped working and believe it or not they want exchange it or try to fix it. I can only have 10% off a new one, that will have the same chances of not working after a year. Right? I would just buy to 30$ Flat Iron from Walmart before I'd spend $85 dollars on another Flat Iron from this company.
TERRIBLE!! Leaves hair split endy!

I chose this straightener because of the rave reviews it got here. compared to the cheaper general value brand sold at sally beauty supply stores, it was not any better. (not the REALLY cheap ones) it goes over the hair more smoothly with no pulling, but doesn't improve the condition of my hair over the other straightener and straightens a bit slower and doesn't stay straight any longer. go get the gvs one at sally for $60 instead.
Worked wonderful, until...

I really did enjoy this straightener. It worked amazingly, and I have very wild hair. A little over a year though, it just wouldn't turn on. I figure it has to do with the cord, but I don't care. It should have lasted longer.
Broke after owning for 90 days

worked alright for the 90 days I owned it. I have straight hair. I only used the iron to get my hair stick straight and smooth. Got it straight, but made my hair staticy. Went int eh bathroom to straighten my hair 90 days fater purchase. Nothing. No power. It has never been dropped, I don't wind the cord around the base. I took very good care of it, especially becuase it wasn't cheap. Now I have to pay shipping to return the product and send a money order for 9.95 to pay for return shipping for Folica. What a waste. Wish I would have bought a cheap one at the store. Would be way less of a hassle and it would probably still be working.
