Product Rating: 3 A Warning to Women of Color...
Reviewer: Rochelle from Norfolk, VA  Wed Jul 13 2005

I had very high hopes for this product after reading all of the glowing reviews, and the first day that I used it I had great success with it. It straightened my hair with ease and more quickly than anything else I had ever tried. The problem came the next day when my hair felt dry, dull, and lifeless. I thought that this might have been just a one-time thing, so I washed my hair, deep conditioned and moisturized it, and tried the iron again. The same thing happened. I finally figured that I was straightening my hair on too high of a setting (I was using 450 degrees). The instruction book tells you to start out with the highest settings if you have very hard-to-straighten hair, but trust me, it works best if you use the very lowest setting that will actually straighten your hair. My hair is coarse, wiry, ethnic hair, but it is also chemically relaxed. I now use the 330 degree setting, and my hair is feeling much healthier. So, if you buy the product, I recommend that you try the lower settings, and ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT YOUR HAIR IS PROPERLY MOISTUIZED. Also, don't be afraid to play around with the product to find what's best for you. It's a great product for women with 'ethnic' hair, so long as you are taking proper care of your hair and moisturizing it adequately.

What a great response and turnaround from your company. I was anticipating all these questions about why the hair straightener went out etc..... I didn't receive any of those questions. You honored your warranty in a timely and professional manner. Thank you for doing what many companies don't - Customer service is everything! Diane from Tucson, Arizona

I was so surprised to see so many good reviews but after having read them-I knew I had to try the solia and I was NOT dissapointed!! It makes me hair instantly shine, doesn't break it, and so straight in such a short time! I can already see a difference in my hair and works great with any hair products. I recommended this to many of my friends who have already bought it!! Thanks, Solia! You're the best! I never leave home to travel without it! It's an essential tool to have and the fact that you can use it on wet hair is amazing!!

Product Rating: 5 By far the best flat iron I have used, ever!!!
Reviewer: Anonymous   Sat Jul 09 2005

This is the best flat iron I have ever used. I have gone through brands such as Gold n' Hot and Conair, but they didn't get very hot, didn't work very well and ended up breaking. My Solia 1 1/4" does everything those didn't. It gives me super straight (or more casual straight, depending on what I feel like doing or where I'm going) hair and adds shine in the process. It doesn't damage how my hair feels and looks. It improves it by 200%! I would definitely recommend buying this product. It is a very good investment!

Great Product! Annoying long extension cord for personal use but works great. Service was also a plus.

I am thrilled with this product. I have long medium coarse, curly Afro American hair and needed my professional hair styless to get it smooth for me. Not any more! The 1 3/4" is perfect. My daughter used it on her two girls and it made great flips. Directions are in the package.

Product Rating: 4 Solia Professional Ceramic Ion Flat Iron (1-3/4
Reviewer: TH from Florida  Wed Jun 29 2005

My first flat iron was a Sedu and broke after a year when it fell off the counter and hit the floor, breaking the plastic piece that holds it together. I decided to try a different brand, the Solia Professional Ceramic Ion Flat Iron (1-3/4"). It is a high quality flat iron and does a great job. The temperature settings have a wide range, making it nice to choose from. The only feature I don't like is the location of the on/off switch. It is located inside between the two plates. When it's hot, it's tricky to turn it off without burning fingers. When and if I have to buy another flatiron as a replacement, I'll go back to the Sedu Brand. I liked the plates much better for smoothness and manueverability. The Solia isn't a bad choice, I just prefer the Sedu.

Using it several times a week and LOVE it. My hair gets very soft and shiny when it's coarse and wavy naturally. I'd recommend this product to all my friends.

To my dismay, this iron produced the same results as my old worn out hot tool ceramic iron. At more than twice the price I don't think its worth it. The only thing that would make me like it better is if it would last longer. I won't know cause I'm sending it back in the hopes of finding my perfect straightener. I would recommend this straightener for those not looking for perfection. I took me twice as long to do my hair. Over all its a good straightener and says all it claims, but unfortunately it wasn't good enough for me. In my after picture, one side is done with the solia and one side is done with my hot tools.

I have wavy, extremely thick course hair. It's hard to believe that a flat iron can get my hair as smooth and silky as this one does. No damage and so fast. I highly recommed this iron..especially if you have thick hair and want to save precious time. It is also very easy to use.

Reviewer: Daph from San Juan, Puerto Rico  Wed Jun 22 2005

I got this product because my cousin had a flat iron and when she used it with me I loved it. I decided on Solia because it was second's best in Folica's Best Flat Irons list. I am glad with my purchase, however, my best friend brought a flat iron at a store nearby, with the same features (and performance cause she used it on my hair) that worked just about the same for only $65. So, for those of you who have never used a flat iron, I recommend to visit a salon or something first and see if you like. Compare prices and features, because EXPENSIVE doesn't neccesarily means BETTER. One thing I loved was the site's service. I live in Puerto Rico and the iron arrived in just 3 days, which was very nice, and de s & h charges were not over the top.

I have never owned a straightening iron before, but I had used my friends Conair and thought it gave me good results so I decided to get my own. I read a great review about the Solia in Latina magazine including it's wet/dry abilities and decided it would be an investment in beauty. What a great tool! The Conair straightening iron cannot even compete with this product. All it takes is one or two strokes through and it leaves my hair really shiny, doesn't make it crispy at all, and withstands New York City humidity much better than a blow dry. I color my hair so and am worried about heat/styling damage so I bought Alberto V05's new leave in conditioner for heat styling and it works really well.

Product Rating: 5 Just a GREAT Iron
Reviewer: Dorothy   Tue Jun 21 2005

I've used several brands and types of flat irons and decided to go with this one over the CHI and have NO REGRETS. I have two daughters and we all have extremely thick hair with lots of body and/or curls. We are thrilled with the results.

It used to take 2 hours for me to dry and flat iron my youngest daughter's hair. Now it takes under an hour--and we are talking extremely thick curly hair! The ability to use it on slightly damp hair means we save time in the blow drying process. The width of the iron, the incredible heat (we've never used it on full heat either), and the "Dynamic Alignment" of the tourmaline/ceramic plates speed the flattening process right along.

Not only does it cut down on the styling time, but our hair STAYS STRAIGHT and SILKY until the next time it gets wet! That is an incredible benefit to us, as we live in the Coastal South where the humidity always seems to be overpowering. I bought my Solia a couple of months ago but decided to wait for the summer heat and extreme humidity before submitting this review.

The plate design lets me get really close to the scalp and forehead hairline. Oh, it's got a really long cord, too, which has come in handy on several occasions.

To me, it's just a GREAT iron.

My sister introduced me to the Solia Straightening Iron. I love it. My hair has always been very thick and hard to maintain. The straightening iron is very quick and my style lasts through heat, rain, and humidity. I feel that it was a very sound investment. I got my hair done this weekend at the beauty salon but was not as pleased by what they did as I was by doing it myself using the Solia.

For those with "heavy" looking or thick and frizzy hair, it calms the frizz right away and can make your hair feel so much lighter...

I have used the solia 1 3/4" iron for 2 weeks and I can't believe the effect it has on my hair --
