Product Rating: 5 So worth the money!
Reviewer: Allison   Wed Dec 02 2009

I bought this flat iron over 4 years ago and I just broke it the other day by letting the plug get wet. I am honestly so heartbroken because I love it! I did alot of research before purchasing it because many of my friends have Chi flat irons and had had issues with them (cord fraying, not heating up, plate broke, etc) and I didn't want to have those same issues. I have very thick wavy hair that frizzes in the slightest humidity, and I swore by this flat iron to calm it all down. I just bought a cheap-o one in the interim before I order a new Solia and it's AWFUL!!!!!!! It doesn't seem to clamp down on my hair tight enough and it totally doesn't get my hair as sleek and shiny as I want it. I really do love this product, and will buy a new one ASAP!

Product Rating: 2 Keep the warranty info!
Reviewer: Kristina from Denton, TX  Tue Dec 01 2009

I purchased the Solia flat iron in Feb of this year (2009) and it worked great. I didnt think it was absolutely AMAZING but it did the job and worked as well as my previous flat iron (CHI). I used it to straighten and curl my hair almost everyday. I usually had it set to a medium heat setting and never on the max.

Well, after about 8 months, it died on me. I was straightening my hair when I saw a flash of white and smoke and then could smell something burning. I turned it off immediately and disconnected it. After a day or two, I plugged it back in, and without switching it on, it began to heat up on its own to an extremely HOT temp, and smoke was coming off the plates. I unplugged it and it has not worked at all since then. I didn't keep my warranty info (and for that I'm kicking myself) so I can't return it.

My CHI lasted for 5 years, and I have pulled that out of the drawer and have been using that one for the past month or so. It's dying out on me, so I just ordered a Sedu and will see how that is.

All in all, the Solia is a good flat iron but keep the warranty info just in case it gives out like mine.

Product Rating: 1 Beware - this is JUNK!!!!
Reviewer: a.m. from San Francisco, CA USA  Fri Nov 27 2009

That's it, I'm fed up with this piece of garbage and I'm sending it back on Monday. My advice - spend an extra $20 and upgrade to a Chi. I can't believe this received a Best of Folica seal of approval. It makes me think that there is some secret deal between Folica and Solia, a virtually unheard of brand, because this flat iron is garbage.

The problem? First off it's so lightweight it feels like it's made out of cheap aluminum. You can literally feel the lack of quality. But here is the real problem - it snags your hair. 10-15 strands of hair will get caught up between the blue plates and the black part of it. I would expect that from Hot Tools, but an $80 iron should NEVER do that. I almost just had to cut my hair out right now.

I've tried Sedu's iron, and I can definitely say out of these 2 up-and-coming brands, Sedu is WAY better. I will never ever buy a Solia again.

P.S. I have a feeling this is getting such high reviews because people buying it have only ever used drug-store flat irons before. But if you've used a Chi or anything of quality - you do NOT want to buy this, trust me.

Product Rating: 3 Broke just after warranty was up!
Reviewer: Dawn from Miami  Fri Nov 27 2009

I am not one to complain, besides when straigtening my hair this flat iron did the trick, but after a little over a year of having it one of my plates fell out and now it is just hanging by the wires and the other one is slowly doing the same. This happened just when I had purchased the Solia blow dryer to compliment it. In order to use it now I have to wiggle the plug around and keep it in the right position or else it will turn off and it does have an extreme burning smell>>people always think I'm burning my hair out! All in all great for the first few months but thankfully they have a new extended warranty but I won't be buying another!!!

Reviewer: Felicia   Mon Nov 23 2009

This straightner is relatively average. When mine dies I know that I will be trying a different straightner. If I run it through my hair too fast, it makes it staticy. Also, if I use it too many times on my bangs, they get the flat and greasy look. This straightner really isn't that special.

Product Rating: 3 Amazing while it lasts.
Reviewer: Kathryn from OK  Mon Nov 23 2009

I bought this straightner a year ago and loved it. Until recently I was curling my friends hair with it and both of the plates fell out. I was very disappointed, expecially since I don't straighten my hair that often.

Product Rating: 4 Good product
Reviewer: Alma   Mon Nov 23 2009

This is my first flat iron purchase. I already have straight hair but it works great when I want to have that perfect just got of the salon layered look. My hair looks very silky and smooth.

I can't compare it to other irons but I love this one. Why look for anything else?

Product Rating: 2 do not buy
Reviewer: amanda from san antonio, texas  Sun Nov 22 2009

ok it was ok when i first bought it made my hair feel good but look like i walked threw rain.had it for only a month and the straightner smells like it burning.not worth the money...

Product Rating: 5 I love this straightener!!!!
Reviewer: Olivia from Houston, TX. US  Fri Nov 20 2009

I received my straightener 2 days ago and I'm in love! I have wavy thick hair and once I was done I noticed the difference in my hair it was so soft unlike my old straightener it would make it poofy so I decided to invest in a good one not the 20$ ones from wal mart ...it heats up super fast and doesn't make my hair smell burnt at all!!! It makes it so silky I'm glad I bought it! Another thing it didn't snag my hair thank you folica !!!

Product Rating: 5 Love Better Than Sedu
Reviewer: Destinee from Victorville, California, U.S.A.  Tue Nov 17 2009

Hey you guys, I don't know if many of you are like I am, but I always read the reviews before I make a purchase, and I did so with the sedu. It was sad that it said it was the best, and going the price, I did think that it was. TOTALLY WRONG! I'm not saying the Sedu is all that bad, but it just never got hot enough for me. But I exchanged for the hot pink Solia, and when I say this is the one, it is the ONE! plus you can't beat the price tag... So if you are reading this review, buy the Solia and trust me u will be happy that you did!!! =)

Product Rating: 3 Solia is okay.
Reviewer: Brittany from Glen Saint Mary FL North America  Tue Nov 17 2009

My solia flat iron works pretty good on my natural curly hair. but there are some complaints i have, its too heavy and has ridges on the handle that gives my skin callouses! ewww. and with it being so heavy its hard to get close to my roots. i have had it for a year now but i am thinking about buying a new type of flat iron.

Product Rating: 2 Chi is better by far!
Reviewer: Alyssa from Texas  Mon Nov 16 2009

I bought this straightener less than a yr ago. Truthfully my hair is NOT as silky as when I use the Chi. I was always thinking it was a bad haircut or something mkaing my hair like poofy but then I use my sister's CHI and turns out it isnt my haircut! So im going to get rid of the Solia and order just the original CHI.

Product Rating: 1 BROKE AFTER 3 MONTHS
Reviewer: Dana from new york, new york, USA  Mon Nov 16 2009

This straightener was great until it completely broke for no reason after just 3 months of use! I turned it on one morning, took a shower, came back to use it and one of the ceramic plates had fallen out. I wasn't able to pop it back in and it wouldn't even turn on or off after that. I had never traveled with it or even moved it around since I got it - so I have no idea how or why it broke other than it is a poorly made product.

Product Rating: 4 Just Ok!
Reviewer: Asia from Cleveland, Ohio  Sun Nov 15 2009

After reading all the reviews, I finally decided to purchase the irons. Because my hair is very wavy I turned the temperature all the way up. To my surprise the outside of the flat irons got sooo hot that I could not finish curling my hair. How are you suppose to use these all day if you are a hairstylist? I will be returning these irons. My hair was straight, but it has been straighter from other irons.

Product Rating: 4 I'd recommend it to you!
Reviewer: Jess from ME  Sun Nov 15 2009

I got this straightener about a year ago (it still works!) I straighten my hair at least twice a week. I don't have thick OR thin hair, it's pretty 'normal'. This solia flat iron is really nice, because it untangles your hair, it prevents it from frizzing in humid weather, and it makes your hair look silky! And I also got the heat pouch with this flat iron, and it's awesome! It's easy for you to throw in after you're done with it, or just rest the flat iron as you're straightening your hair.
HOWEVER, when I use a high heat setting, it really does damage my hair. I don't know if you're supposed to use heat protection cream, but I don't use those. I heard those help though. And you need to go through your hair fast, not leaving the plates rest in one part of your hair.
I hope this helps!

Product Rating: 3 I'd rather keep my old flat iron
Reviewer: Jane. from Baltimore, MD USA  Thu Nov 12 2009

:-( I just recieved mines in the mail and immediately wanted to use it. I'm african-american and have relaxed hair slightly past my shoulders. After reading so many awesome reviews on the Solia flat iron, I decided to purchase on for myself. I washed, conditioned, and blow dryed my hair. When it was time to flat iron it, as i began i noticed that this flat iron was super heavy and made it difficult for me to get close to my roots(i haven't gotten a relaxer in 4 months so the new growth is SERIOUS). All in all, it straightened okay, but not what I expected. I own the Generic Value Product (GVP) of the CHI mainly because the CHI didn't have temp. control, and I love it. It's way better than the Solia for me. I will be returning this iron immediately :(

Product Rating: 3 This Flat Iron will die
Reviewer: Lola from Oakland, CA  Tue Nov 10 2009

I bought my Solia in 2006 and it worked well until January of this year. It just shorted out and quite working. Of course, it conveniently happened after the two year warranty.

As for the results, they were amazing and I haven't had another flat iron like it since (and I've tried 3)! I have thick and very curly hair and the Solia always got the job done. It's a shame how they just stop working though.

Product Rating: 5 I love it!!
