I have had many problems with friz and humidity. With every straightener I use, my hair curls and frizes once i hit humidity... Will this product do the same? Question posted by Tammy Thu Sep 29 2005 Submit your answer | Reply by chandler

I have mixed grade AA very curly hair. This is a good flat iron. I researched before I bought this one and I chose the Solia because it has the highest temperature - 450 Farenheit. Even with anti-frizz products, it did not get my hair bone straight and it did frizz again as soon as humidity hit it, but I wasn't expecting miracles from a flat iron. However, it was worth what I paid for it and I'm pleased with my purchase. I just have to wear it naturally curly when it's humid outside or cover my hair with a scarf. Yuck. | | Reply by Kadie

Its not the strightener, it may be the product. try using a strightening shampoo and conditioner then possibly a little strightening balm witha thermal protectant and that may cut down on some of the frizz | | Reply by Hip hip hooray!

Well a flat iron alone most likely won't do much to stop curling and frizzing against humidity. They aren't super human. However, there are plenty of products out there that are, they'll definetly help. Try KMS flatout. It is amazing, I swear. It protects against humidity, and frizz. It's also designed for use with flat irons, so it'll keep your hair straight longer. Plus, the spray bottle makes it easy to apply, and the product is so lightweight, that it leaves your hair feeling soft, shiny, and healthy. After all, nothing is worse than spending 40 mins on your hair to step outside and have it poof. | Best flat iron for fine hair
I have very fine hair that tends to frizz up the moment I walk outside. I was first going to by a chi but have since decided with either a sedu or solia. I want to be able to straighten my hair as well as flip it out and curl it. Which one is the better for me??? Question posted by Ashley Wed Sep 28 2005 Submit your answer | Reply by Gracie

I'd say the Solia Tourmaline Ceramic Ion Flat Iron as I also have fine hair and I find that thinner straightners work a lot better with us as it is easier to flick, curl and get to your roots. | | Reply by Dayna

If you want to be able to do all sorts of styles, then go with the $85 solia styling TOOL. it sraightens, curls, and twists ur hair. i havent tried it, but ive read really good reviews and it has four and a half stars. my friends have a CHI, and all theyre hair is FRYED. go with solia styling tool. | Will solia work for black hair?
Hi, I am a black female with chemically treated hair. Have tried cheaper flat irons but they always seem to leave my hair with lots of friz and it doesn't get straight. Does solia give your hair that silky salon look? Thanks! Question posted by Lacie Wed Sep 28 2005 Submit your answer | Reply by chandler

I'm a black female with mixed grade AA hair. My hair is very, very curly with no relaxer in it. This is the hottest flat iron sold on Folica - 450 F, which is why I purchased it. I need heat on this stuff. It got my hair pretty straight, though not like a marcel iron. It was shiny and soft and I was pleased with how it turned out doing it myself. | | Reply by lola

Hi there. Yes, it will give you that salon look. I used my SOLIA for the first time tonight. I chemically straighten my hair. I use Biosilk and sometimes IC, you can get that in the black hair section...it's cheaper than Biosilk, without the alcohol content. Smells like grape. Use it sparingly, let hair air dry, then flat iron it.
Enjoy hope that helps. | | Reply by neko

hi i got this flat iron and this flate iron works really well on my hair but i have to use a spray to protect my hair before i iron it so it doesnt get all crispy. i turn the setting to about 320 and blow dry it with silk effect blow drying cream and paul mitchell super skinny. then i spray on silk effect flat iron spray it takes about 15-20 mins to do everything. it also heats up really fast. | How do you apply straightening balm equally to all hair?
I'm having trouble getting the balm equally to all hair parts (I have shoulder length hair). I end up using too much and my hair feels thick and greasy afterwards, yet when I use just a little, it seems like it only gets on the surface of my hair. Any advice?? Start with a small amount of balm (quarter size), rub between your palms, pull the length of your hair to the side as if in a pony tail and apply the balm to the lengths first. Then, whatever is left should be applied to the crown and below. Take a fine tooth comb and comb it through; it should be evenly applied now with the concentration on where its needed most! | | Reply by Ava

Yeah, I have that problem too. I figured out that if you apply it to wet hair and then blowdry it, then straighten it won't look greasy or anything ugly like that! | Shipping costs to Canada
I have been scoping out this flat iron for months and would really like to purchase it however I'm concerned about hidden costs that may occur because I live in Ontario Canada. | How do you iron ALL your hair evenly, especially the back?
I have a serious problem getting the back of my hair straight. I always seem to miss sections and so inevitably the front of my hair will be straight and the back will still be poofy and fuzzy. Anyone have any tips on sectioning off hair and reaching these hard sections, etc? Thanks! Question posted by Help with Crazy Hair! Tue Sep 20 2005 Submit your answer | Reply by Jessica

I have had the same problem. I have chemically straightened hair but since its been growing out it is wavy at the top near the back. What I do is bring the front hair in front of my shoulders so I can see all the back hair. seperate the top and bottom from each other and do the hair underneath first. then let the rest of the hair down and finish straightening the top section. Make sure you have a second mirror in your bathroom so you can see what you're doing and to make sure you didnt miss any spots. I don't really have to section hair and straighten all since it is chemically straightened and i usually only do the top, but this method seems to work well. | | Reply by Kadie

Try strightening in layers. I know it may take a few more minutes but that way you can more evenly strighten all peices of the hair | Does it pull on your hair?

I know the feeling! My last iron yanked my hair out every time, I got to where I was actually cringing each time I used it, without even realizing it. And then there would a bunch of ripped-out hairs in the iron afterwards! NOT FUN!
The Solia is awesome, it has not pulled or gotten tangled in my hair once, and no more ripped strands hanging from it afterwards! | Will the solia fry my hair to straw??
I have wavy, frizzy, oily, tangly hair. it isnt much fun. I can style is wavy, but I can also blow dry straight. AS soon as I finish blow drying my hair, it goes into a frizz ball. I dont want to put frizz control into my hair because that makes it oily and gross. I decided that i want to use a flat iron, but I have seen girls at school who turned their hair into straw( i dont want to have straw hair)Will this make my hair straw and will it straighten the ends??? No, you won't fry your hair IF you straigthen your hair correctly. I use a product called sleek.look by matrix. I put it in my hair when it is damp and then straighten it. This product works extremely well because it protects your hair up to 450 degrees. I use the highest temperature on the Solia (450) and my hair is not one bit fryed or feeling dry. about it straigtening the ends, you may have to hold the iron for a couple of seconds in one spot so it doesn't flip out. But don't worry, if u use any product that protects against high temps, u won't turn ur hair to straw | | Reply by Julia

I used a flat iron before, that got up to 400 degrees F. It didn't turn my hair to straw, my hair was actually pretty soft. If you're really worried, though, you can always put hair spray in your hair afterwards, but hold it a foot away, and it will make your hair a little bit softer. | | Reply by amber

i have think healthy, wavy hair...i just ordered this solia iron (waiting in mail), but i use the H2Pro iron which straightens and curls on 450 desgrees which is the highest temperature. my hair is still gorgeous. i never even thought about using a lower temp. maybe i should but it has not damaged my hair at all. i guess as long as you dont hold it on your hair for very long (as you would a curling iron) you should be fine. | What temperature should I use it on?
I have naturally long, curly hair which isn't too thick. I've read the Solia can heat up to 450 degrees. How hot would you recommend to put it at in order not to fry out my hair. Does it depend on how curly your hair is? Question posted by Gina Sun Aug 28 2005 Submit your answer | Reply by ndiva

I would start at 300 degrees and see how that does. Then you can see straight results without frying your hair. If you want to go straighter, then try 370 degrees. It won't fry your hair. Also, be sure to use your straightening balm for your hair type which will give you a sleeker look and prevent damage. I hear L'oreal Anti-frizz is great. | | Reply by Dayna
