does citrishine shine serum protect against heat?
will that be enough to protect my hair from the solia... or the garnier fructis sleek and shine leave in conditioner?

NO! Garnier Fructis sleek & shine DOES NOT protect your hair from heat damage, many people beleive it does, but I'm sorry to say it DOES NOT PROTECT YOUR HAIR, IN FACT IT WEIGHS DOWN YOUR HAIR, which is bad! If you're looking for a good heat protectant, pick one of the following: Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum - This costs $15.95 (5.1 ounces) on Folica, you can also get it from CVS for 20 dollars. This one really makes your hair shiny and soft and smooth. FHI Heat Hot Sauce- This costs $14.00 for 2 ounces on Folica. A bit pricey, but OOH LA LA! Works beautifully and makes your hair really soft and shiny. Sedu Heat Protectants- These cost $12.99 for a 8 ounce spray bottle on Folica, they only protect your hair, but don't add much shine. Basically, if you're looking for the cheapest one, use any Sedu Heat Protectant on Folica. If you want one that will make your hair really shiny and soft and smooth, get Super Skinny Serum. Use FHI Hot Sauce if you don't care about prices. Good Luck!

CURL. yes or no?
Well Iam thinking about buying a solia straightner. I still don't know if i should buy it...or buy the corioliss black straightner. Well if i get the solia, can i still curl my hair with the 1 1/4 in plate???? because i think that the 1 inch might be too small for my hair because i have very thick hair about up to my shoulders. But i want the one inch solia because i read that it can curl ur hair too...so can any one tell me if u can also curl ur hair with the 1 1/4 plate wide solia????????

When I went to the Mall she said it the 1 1/4 can curl it, because of the heat.

I have both the corioliss black 1 inch and the solia 1 1/4 inch, and they both work pretty much the same, I would buy the solia 1 1/4 inch before the corioloss only because it dont snag your hair, it glides more smoothly. I have to go over my hair several times with both the flat irons to get straight sleek results, but the solia want snag and thats a plus, also you can still do curls with it.

You can definitely curl with the solia 1 1/4" Any size flat iron will curl (especially the ones with rounded edges like the solia) but you will just acheive a different look, just like using a different barrel size curling iron.

Here's the thing. I tried using this iron to curl my hair and it curled it fantastically. But when I tried to curl my sister's hair it just made dents. Someone told me that some people's hair can't be curled with flat irons.

1'' or 1 1/4'' for bangs
I'm a happy Solia user for almost 3 years now I currently own the 1 and 3/4 and it's still happily straighting along. However, I just recently chopped off my very long hair and added bangs and it seems my 1 and 3/4 is simply too big for bangs and getting up to the roots of my hair. Does anyhow have any experience or suggestions on the 1 inch vs the 1 and 1/4 inch for use on bangs. I have side swept bangs so I need something small enough to get close to the roots and pull to the side but I'm not sure if the 1 inch will be too small. I don't have unruly hair just a lot of it.

The 1 1/4 is the best for alot of hair, but side swept bangs. I had pixie bangs a couple months ago, but they grew out. I used the 1 1/4 and it worked great!!

which country does it work in?
I'm going to get my hair layered and my hairdresser recommended for me to buy a straightening iron so i have been researching on the internet. I haven't actually had the time to go shopping and have a look at some...I haven't found any here in Australia. So far, this product seems to be the best. And am thinking about ordering it. But i was just wondering what kind of power plug thing does it go into? I live in Australia and the power might be different to America or something. I'm just afriand that if i use one of those converters that it will blow up or something because i read someone's review and they said they took it to London and used a converter and theirs just melted! If anyone knows and is able to help, it will be very much appreciated.

Australia uses an I type plug. The United States uses an A & B type plug. You can see the difference on this website : http://kropla.com/electric2.htm You will need to buy a converter.

Unfortunately, the Solia is only made in 110/120 voltage for the USA and Canada. Flat irons are very sensitive which is why using a converter is not recommended.

Pink or Black?
Which iron is better (Pink Solia or Black), or do they work the same?

They are meant to be exactly the same. They have the same shape and features. Some people do choose to go with the black version because there are many different sizes where the pink only comes in the 1" size.

I prefer the black one. I had a pink straightener (not in this brand) and it turns brown throughout the year. I'm not sure if this brand does the same though, but I'm not going to risk it. So i'm going to buy a black one.

curls
I think i read a question similar to what i am about to ask but, i didnt really understand what the person was trying to say. so here i go; does this straightener make loose curls like you can make with the chi? i already a straightener i love but i want a striaghtener i can use to curl my hair and to use for touch ups, since curling irons do not get hot enough to een make an impact on my hair.

I have tried doing loose curls on my hair before and unfortunately, they don't really work. It kind of leaves creases on your hair and it looks horrible. I still recommend the solia because it is such a great iron (had it for over a year now). Hope i helped :)

i was able to curl my hair with the solia and it looked the same as when i did it with my hot rollers. 1. take a small section of your hair and place the straightener at thetop near your scalp, or whereever you want the curl to start 2. just start turning the straightener and pulling it down the section of hair. 3. take your time when you get near the ends to make sure you don't leave it straight or else it looks really ugly. (i like to hold the straightener parallel to the ground when i'm doing all of this - that way your hair doesn't slip out, but practice with the iron turned off first so you get a feel for this)

Is BioSilk Silk Therapy protection against flat iron heat?
I just ordered my Solia a few days ago and now I am trying to find the right heat protetion and shine all in one. I keep reading great things about the BioSilk Silk Therapy but none of the comments say if it protects against Solia's 450 degree heat. I'm looking for a product that does both.Thank you

I am African American with extremely thick hair.Biosilk Silk Therapy has SD alcohol 40B and with continued use it can be drying to your hair if you do not clarify and deep condition often.Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum protects against the heat without the drying alcohol and gives a nice shine to the hair. Pureology Shine Max is also a great product to try. Each of these is more expensive than the drugstore brands but they'll last a long time because a little goes a long way(I haven't found any drugstore or generic shine products that perform well on my hair).Check makeupalley.com. It has great tips and product reviews in every price range for all ethnicities and hair textures. Hope this helps.

No, the BioSilk Silk Therapy does NOT protect against heat. BioSilk only gives your hair more shine and straigens it better. Might I suggest a product called sleek.look. by matrix which DOES protect against heat (up to 450 degrees) which is the maxiumum temp. on the solia. Good luck! And let me add u will love the solia, it is a great flat iron

BioSilk is a silcone shine porduct that DOES NOT protect against the heat. If you want shine and protection try Prive's Styling Brilliance or Kerastase Lait NutriSculpt. Both are fantastic and can be used on wet or dry hair.

I think you should try two seperate products : one to protect against heat and another to add shine. I use aveda damage control in a spray bottle, on my damp hair and it smells great! After I apply redken 'straight' and then blow dry. This product is one of the best I've tried (redken) and sometimes I don't even need to use my flat iron. But you have to use trial and error because everyone has something different that works for them. Good luck!

Biosilk doesn't protect against heat. I read on the "Tips and Advice" page 2, someone recommended "ID CARE Heat Silk Lotion from CREDE". I've never heard of this product and assume that it is available only at salons. Anyone else have rave reviews about this product? Also how much is it? I've been looking for a good product too. :)

No, it doesn't protect it from heat. If I were you I wouldn't use Biosilk because it has alcohol in it which will dry your hair. A lot of people like Biosilk but there are other choices like CHI Silk Infusion which workes the same except that there's no alcohol in it. And in most stores it is cheaper than Biosilk. Hope I helped!!

My hairdresser recommended for me sleek.look by matrix and I think it does a really great job protecting my hair. It protects up to 450 degrees and comes in a lite and heavy version. I use the lite version because it doesn't get your hair greasy. Sleek.look is also available in any chain pharmacy. It is a really great product and I suggest you give it a shot.

Sleek.Look from Matrix has the styling cream in lite and extreme formulas for different hair types. The lite for less curly to dry and unruly hair, and the extreme for very curly hair. And after using the styling creme there's a spray called Iron Smooth that protects your hair up to 450 degrees.

BioSilk not only has ingredients that dry out your hair (alcohol) but also crack your hair, which is permanent damage. i personally would recommend, MATRIX BIOLAGE sheen milk spray, which yes protects from that type of heat in return shines and makes your hair flawless.

which size to get...
I'm very interested in buying this flat iron, although there aren't a lot of people that discuss it's wet to dry capabilities. Would it damage the hair if it's used on wet hair? Also, I'm a little unsure about which size to get (the 1' or the 1-1.4' size). My hair is long (bra strap long) and mix thicknesses, thin and thick hair mixed. I'm caucasian, from european decent. Thanks for the help!

it doesnt not work well if you have it wet. what alot of people do when they use this is put your product in while wet, THEN.. blow dry it straight. simple as that. i have 1-1/4 inch. it works fine. i have really poofy hair, so maybe i should've gotten the bigger plate. i dont know, but its a pretty decent size.

Even though this flat iron does have a wet to dry feature, i suggest not to use any iron, even the solia, when ur hair is wet. If it is a little damp, it is ok but it really is not a good idea to use it on wet hair. For the size option, i have the 1-1.4' size and I have shoulder lengh hair. I find it works a lot better than the 1' because you can reach up to the roots but also it doens't take 30-40 minutes to straigthen all ur hair. hope this helps! and good luck!

Yeah, my hair is just like that. I got the 1-1.4 and its the perfect one. The 1 inch would be too thin, but with this one you can straighten your hair from root to tip and its very comfortable and it wont take you hours. 1-1.4 is the best option for people with medium length hair, or even long hair.

hi, i have very thin baby fine hair but it sometimes get wavy and i just love it straight! right now i am debating on getting either the chi or solia striaghtener. will solia damage my hair if i use it everyday with a thermal protector? i've bought several other ceramic straighteners in the past and they've damaged my hair a great deal even when i used a thermal protector. is there a certain product that can be used with solia to maintain soft healthy hair or is it even possible to have healthy hair while straightening it everyday? please help me with this question... thanks!!

All I can say is, Don't get the Chi!! If your hair is fine like mine, the Chi is just too hot. There's no way to control the temperature on it and it will fry your hair. I haven't tried the Solia yet, but I'm debating on which to switch to - the Solia or the Sedu. As for heat damage, every sinlge day straightening will probably damage your hair no matter what you use. Try to give your hair "days off" whenever you can. Biosilk Silk Therapy is really good for protecting against damage, keeping it healthy - and it doesn't weigh my fine hair down at all!

I would pass up the CHI, I purchased the SOLIA. And it rocks!!! I have been chemically-straightening my hair for 5 years, highlighting it the past two years. It's fried, but with the SOLIA, it gives enough heat to give you a straight sleek look. Take this from a pin-straight perfectionist!! I know that the Japanese salons used CHI, but that's probably because they were able to get it in bulk at reasonable costs. But, I would get the SOLIA, and treat yourself to a bottle of Biosilk. All you need is a dime size on your hair. Let it air dry then hit it with the flat iron. Just remember that right out of the box, you want to make sure the plates are touching perfectly without any gaps. You should not be able to see through it. Hope you get the SOLIA. You will not regret it. The cost is great and even if it lasts for a year or a little more, it's worth it.

When using the Solia, I had very minimal damage to my VERY fine hair. To reduce the damage even futher, I use Biolage by MATRIX Thermal-Active Setting Spray. You can either spray it onto damp hair to dry or flatten, or spray onto dry hair to flatten, curl, etc. It also contains sunscreen to protect against UV rays. I straighten my hair nearly every day, and dye it every 6 weeks. Treating my hair with ARTec shampoo and conditioner and using the Thermal-Active Setting Spray greatly reduces the damage done to my hair. Make sure if your hair is very fine to never use the iron above 300º.

I spoke with my stylist about this and he suggested using very warm water or a towel on your wet hair when applying the conditioner and then closing your hair shaft with cold water. I bought several different products: Loreal Vive shampoo and conditioners, Frizz Ease, Bed Head and some others. None of these stopped my hair from reverting or frizzing as soon as the humidity hit it. The Vive, however, is excellent for detangling my very, very curly hair when wet. My advice, don't spend too much money on expensive products, use a good flat iron and cover your head with a scarf or wear it natural in humid conditions.

Depending on the condition on the condition of your hair, I would buy Biosilk regardless. Let your hair air dry with a little of Biosilk. That should prime your hair for the flat iron. Your hair will surely be shiny after using the flat iron, but if you want to smooth it with a little more Biosilk, you can, just heat it up in the palms of your hand and lightly run down the length of your hair. I would also buy a protein spray, only be careful of overuse. Once a week should help your hair. Heat protecting sprays really work well when you blow dry, but with a flat iron, you want something like Biosilk, a serum that you can coat the shaft with...it will also be shiny and smooth after. Biosilk does have a little alcohol in it. So if you want an alternative to that, get iC which you can find in the African American texture hair section of a drugstore. It's also cheaper. Smells wonderful.

I just use Aussie brand protectant for my hair, but to get it super straight, and cut down on frizz, i use spray starch.i know that sounds wierd, but i have super crazy thick hair, wavy, frizzy curly hair, and i think that the starch has helped out a lot. ( i just spray it in my hands then rub into my hair)

Paul Mitchell Skinny is the best. I have thick hispanic hair and use it everyday. I bought it when it first came out and it was $11.00 now some salons sell it for $15.95. I swear buy it and I hope this flat iron works for me. I have the most unmanageable hair ever. Thick, dry, over processed and chemically treated (wow like lion king after blow drying =)!

I was wondering the same question and tried Biosilk Silk Therapy for almost two years but found out that it has alcohol, which will dry/damage hair. I also tried Sleek Look by Matrix and it made my hair frizzy with build ups; opposite of "sleek" look. I also tried Biolage Fortifying heat styler, which has medium hold with almost no build up. I wanted no hold; just heat protector. Finally, I found out Redken Smooth Down Heat Glide and it made my normal weavy hair no sticky, no hold, but shine and silky without build ups. It has no alcohol (according to bottle). If you want lower than $10, try Citre Shine -Shine Miracle serum. It doesn't mention alcohol in contents list. I tried these two with both T3 dryer and SCP Iron (don't buy this iron). So far, I am happy. I am going to switch to Solia Iron and saw these reviews and QA sections are helpful. PS. Biolage Fortifying shampoo is very good for heat damaged hair. Conditioner is pretty thick so I use Bodyfying conditioner. If you are not sure of products, try small sizes or buy from clearance (such as from Regis or Trade Secrets, etc.). You won't regret too much. I got my Redken Heat Glide two for $20 at Regis (Feb. special).
