Product Rating: 5 i love it!
Reviewer: Chloe from New York  Fri May 13 2005

i have wavy-curly hair, but before using this iron i blew it out a little first to make sure it wouldnt get curly, and to make it dry. it heated up quickly and the protective sleeves really help. in 10 minutes, my hair was silky, smooth, and pin-straight! i LOVE this iron, and i can't imagine doing my hair without it!

Product Rating: 4 Not Bad
Reviewer: joann from Texas  Fri May 13 2005

I purchased this flat iron because I travel overseas quite a bit. I use a Farouk Chi here at home and LOVE it, but couldn't find one to use there. The Saphire Mini is good, and I think it will be fine. I like the high heat settings and don't use the guards that came with it at all. I haven't noticed it snagging or pulling like some reviewers mentioned yet. Over all I think it will work fine. At least until I find a European version of the chi.

Product Rating: 1 Burns Hair

I would not recommend this iron to anybody. Even if you use this thing swiftly over your hair, you can SMELL burnt hair. It was terrible. The plates are way too hot. I am returning mine

Product Rating: 5 Amazing results with Solano Sapphire Mini!
Reviewer: Amiee from San Diego  Wed Apr 20 2005

Customer Image 1:

I achieved these results with my Solano Sapphire Mini in less than 10 minutes! This iron has been working great for me. It does pull the hair occasionally when it gets pinched between the tips, but if there is enough hair between the plates, the tips can't touch and pull the hair. So this iron might not be good for someone who likes to do very small sections at a time. I still rated it excellent because for me it works so quickly and so well.

Product Rating: 1 Solano Sapphire Mini
Reviewer: Samantha K. from Detroit  Fri Apr 15 2005

I purchased the Solano Sapphire Mini last year prior to my European trip. It is very difficult to find a good dual-voltage ceramic iron to use abroad. This irons plates did not make full contact when closed and it was super-hot (no temperature control), actually causing me to burn my hand on my hair (not on the iron!). I ended up returning this iron and had nothing for my trip. I am still searching for a good ceramic dual voltage iron (at any price)

Product Rating: 4 Solano Sapphire Mini works great!
Reviewer: Jan from Oakland, California  Wed Apr 13 2005

After reading the reviews on this product on this website, I was skeptical about buying one (some people had registered complaints). However, my Sapphire Mini worked extremely well. I purchased it for travel in France and Morocco and it did exactly what I needed. It was relatively light, functioned perfectly in both countries and left my hair smooth and silky. In fact, after using it one evening I came down to dinner and my traveling companions asked me if I'd had my hair done! The protective sleeves didn't come off as one other reviewer had mentioned happened to her, and the fact that there wasn't a temperature control didn't seem to matter. The iron never got so hot that it had a damaging effect on my hair. The only complaint I have is a minor one: the iron tends to snag just a little now an then, but this hardly fazed me. So overall, I'm very satisfied with the product and would recommend it highly.

Product Rating: 5 The Greatest Flat Iron Ever!!!
Reviewer: Alexis   Wed Feb 23 2005

I have extremely curly, yet baby fine hair, so it was difficult for me to find a flat iron that was small enough to catch the little fly-aways around my face and the nape of my neck. I orginally purchased the full-sized Solano, which wasn't managable enough to achieve the results I was looking for. The mini iron works perfectly! I can even flip the ends out to give it body without using a separate large-barreled curling iron. This is the best appliance I've ever purchased for my hair!!!!

Product Rating: 3 It's ok...
Reviewer: R. Patel from New Jersey, USA  Fri Feb 18 2005

The good: This is a good straightener, high-powered, small, and obviously good for traveling (to places like South America that use 110/220).

The bad: The protective sleeves keep falling off and the straightener gets so hot that i don't know why they didn't just put them on permanently. Also, there no adjuster for how much heat. In my personal opinion, it gets too hot for daily use and I'd like to be able to turn the heat down when i want to.

Product Rating: 4 Great for International Travel
Reviewer: Amy   Wed Feb 16 2005

Normally I use the HAI Stick iron which I love, and still consider the best after trying various other brands.
However, I travel a lot to Europe and Asia and needed a dual-voltage iron which HAI does not seem to make.

I first tried the dual-voltage BaByliss iron (BaByliss Ceramic Hair Straightening Iron - 1¼"), but was very disappointed. It did not straighten like a ceramic iron normally does and it was much too bulky.

I then ordered the Solano Sapphire Mini despite the mixed reviews posted on this site. I'm happy to say that I am very satisfied with the Sapphire Mini.

When I was researching the Sapphire Mini, I saw various comments about the plates not touching which concerned me. Fortunately, I did not find this to be true at all (perhaps there is a problem with some of the stock and not others, I'm not sure). It is true however that the iron seems to snag or catch a bit more than my HAI, but not enough to bother me or cause any noticable damage to my hair (I would not decide against buying this iron for that reason).

So, if you need a dual-voltage ceramic flat iron, I highly recommend the Sapphire Mini, it has worked very well for me so far!

Product Rating: 1 Disappointed
Reviewer: Irene from Florida  Tue Feb 08 2005

I had asked Folica if this particular item would work in the UK and if it has temperature control to which they answered YES!
I received the item today to find that there is NO temperature control.
How does a person use a flat iron with no temperature control? Doesn't it ruin your hair?
I will be sending mine back by return for false information.

Product Rating: 1 Don't buy this...
Reviewer: Liz P. from PA  Fri Jan 28 2005

I know that a few people have given this flat iron good reviews, and my salon at home sells this exact flat iron. So I chose to buy it, despite the few bad reviews because I trust my salon's opinion. However, I was extremely dissappointed when I recieved the iron. The plates really DON'T touch and the iron snags your hair all the time. I returned this and purchased the Sedu 1 1/2 inch flat iron and I LOVE IT!! It is a little more expensive, but it was a much better choice for a flat iron. However, throughout this process Folica has been a wonderful company to buy from so I recommend making your purchases from them! Just don't purchase the Solano Mini Flat Iron!

Product Rating: 1 Do not buy this flat iron
Reviewer: Jackie   Mon Jan 24 2005

I recently bought this iron for my travels abroad. I don't know who designed this iron but it does not work!!! The plates don't hit each other when you close the blades down on your hair. I ended up having to send the iron back and had to leave for my trip w/out it. Do not buy this product it does not work!!!

Product Rating: 5 Amazing
Reviewer: Juli from California  Wed Jan 19 2005

I was very satisfied with this product. I have another ceramic flat iron and I had to buy this one because I was traveling abroad. When I used the Solano flat iron I got rid of my old one. This flat iron straightened my hair in half the time and I didn't have to do any touch up the next day! I have long and really thick hair and I've never had results like I have had with this flat iron! My hair has never been shinier and people also noticed how nice my hair looked! This is defiantly a superior product!!!

Product Rating: 5 Amazing!!
Reviewer: kelly from pa  Tue Dec 28 2004

i was amazed in this. I have long curly hair, and w/ a hot tools, it can take me up to 1 hour to do my full head but w/ this, it does a better job and only takes me 10 minuets. It's long lasting and worth the cost!!!

Product Rating: 5 i love it!!!!!
Reviewer: Samantha   Sun Nov 14 2004

i bought this straightener and it only took me 15 minutes to straighten my wavy hair! it's great! it didn't tug at my hair like most straighteners do and i couldn't feel the heat when i put the protective sleeves on it. i love this straightener and i recommend it to everybody!!!

Product Rating: 3 Not so good becaused it doesn't have a comb!
Reviewer: M.   Mon Nov 08 2004

As much as I love Solanos...this one is average because it doesn't have a comb. The comb is their secret weapon as it makes the hair so smooth and gets rid of kinks. I gave this one away. It's really bad for long hair.

Product Rating: 1 Not Satisfied
Reviewer: Becky from Texas  Sun Nov 07 2004

I just bought this flat iron thinking that it's high price would reflect the quality. Unfortunatly I was mistaken. Before I even plugged it in, I realized that the plates didn't align and they also didn't touch. I thought maybe it was some unique characteristic of some kind so I proceeded to plug it in. It heated up quickly, which was nice, but the outside became very hot. It came with protective sleeves so I put them on. They didn't help. I continued and started flat ironing my hair. On the first swipe, it felt like my hair was getting snagged in the iron but when I looked at it, it didn't pull out any of my hairs. I didn't understand so I kept on. On the box it instuct to take 1in. sections but it seemed like the smaller sections I took, the worse it snagged. I was fed up with the iron. I immedeatly decided to return it the next day. It did iron my hair pretty good, but for the price I paid for it, I shouldn't have had one complaint. (I did not order it from this site)
