Meh - I'm over this flat iron

I've used this flat iron for 7-years, mostly because I didn't know any better that there were other better types of flat iron.
My issues with this flat iron are:
1. Split end city. This iron will rip your hair up because of the hair eating hinge and the actual plates that tend to grab tight and offer little slickness for your hair to glide through.
2. It's heavy and frumpy to deal with.
3. These things break, although I have seen reviews for other brands having way shorter life spans and since all I've ever used is this brand, maybe I just don't know. But the last two have broken in the exact same fashion - they are made entirely of plastic and the plastic around the hinge becomes dry and brittle and completely snaps leaving the top plate just hanging by the inner wires. This seems to happen every 3-years.
4. There's no heat control.
Pros:
1. This thing travels in my suitcase across continents. It hangs out in padding in airplane cargo ... with all the travel I guess 3-years before the plastic crumbles is better than I give it credit for. Although maybe I am packing it safely and maybe other brands would travel well too?
2. I like the comb on the end of it. Makes it easy to straighten hair.
3. The tip is made so you can grip it tight without burning your finger tips.

I have used many flat irons from Hot Tools, to Chi, to Sedu and this has been my favorite so far. I have baby fine frizzy, fly-away hair and this met my every need. I give it an A.

I got this as gift 7 years ago...and after all the abuse and travel...it finally broke down on me. After reading some reiews, I see that it's still the one to get. I'm getting another one!

This is my third purchased from folica. First off, this is a wonderful company to order from. They deliver as promised But I did not care for this item at all. I thought the combs would be an advantage. I find that they are not. They get stuck in my hair plus because of the combs, I have difficulty placing my hair in the flat iron. I think because of the combs the iron is unable to open up enough. Also I don't think it grabs the hair good. Folica has a money back guarentee that I should have taken advantage of, but I didn't. If you want a great inexpensive flat iron go for the solia!
Wonderfully wowed!

I just bought my first Solano flat iron because my hair stylist uses it on my hair and it always feels so wonderful and healthy, not dried out and straw-like like other irons do. I absolutely love this iron!!!! Highly recommended!

I love my solano flat irom it's the best in the whole world i sleep with it every night and if there was a fire in my house thats the first thing i would grab not kids but the iron. One time I beat my husband with it when he tried to throw it away because he felt that i loved my flat iron more than him so i recommend that every women or man gets one.

This hairdryer was totally worth buying--it always gets the job done. My only complaint is that it's a little small...it's hard to feel like it's working. But otherwise, excellent!
Will Not Stray from the Solano Again!

I had a Solano flat iron that lasted several years-- I stopped using it because the wiring became exposed and electrical tape wasn't covering it (this probably wouldn't have happened if I took better care of it) I tried a few other straighteners but they all seemed to fry my hair, so I recently went back to the Solano.. and I will not buy another brand again! I love how the comb guides my hair through the straightener and I only have to go over my hair once. The heatproof mat/sleeve from Folica is also great because I don't have to wait for the iron to cool down before throwing it in my bag etc.
Did they change something..

These irons last forever, so the last time I bought this iron was three years ago. Did they change something? We're still paying the same amount but the iron is made cheaper. I'm going to return the one I got and see if it comes back in better shape.

I have long hair and have been partially highlighting it for 20 years. In the last ten, I've been using a flat iron. I love this iron because it has a comb attached and it makes flat ironing easy. This is the second Solano Sapphire Flat Iron I have purchased in the last 10 years. They really last a long time. I have purchased other flat irons and I keep going back to this one.

This is a great flat iron for both home use and travel. It works well and makes my hair smooth and shiny. I don't have a problem with my hair getting caught like a few other people mentioned in their reviews.
Great!

This was my first flat iron. I got it in 7th grade and it lasted until my junior year in HS when black stuff started to crack and it shorted. I loved it so much. I found the comb an annoyance at the time but now that I have a chi i miss the attached comb. I didnt know i oculd get another saphire iron so i went with a Chi and I am not pleased with it at all.
Awesome

I've had this iron for about 4 years... it won't break unless you treat you like crap (and at times, I've done that and it still works great.) I have really curly, frizzy hair, and this iron was amazing. I have the small one as well as the big one. I get my hair chemically straightened now (the Japanese straightening) so I don't use my iron as much anymore, but I would totally recommend buying this iron. It's definitely not as pricey as it was when I first purchased it, and it's totally worth it. Like I said, people keep saying that they broke theirs... but I'm a college student and my iron has been beaten up for a while now and still works great... soooo for all those people who say it broke, you guys did something to do it.

Just received my Solano 1-3/8" today. I used it as soon as I took it out of the box! About 8 years ago I bought my 1st one from a salon for $110 and would still have it except for a break in the handle. I kept the original box (a miracle since I had it for 8 years)which helped me find the same make and model. This new one which is the narrow version, is just as wonderful as the old one. My 16 year old daughter and I will use it every day!
Love it!

I had a Solano Sapphire years ago, and after 4 years, somebody stole it. I purchase a Chi and promptly after the warranty expired, so did the Chi. I purchased another Solano and both my 15-year old daughter and I agree it's far superior to any other brand. Highly recommended!
Works Great!

I have long hair and very frizzy hair and it worked quickly, I recommend that you give it time to heat up for best results, be sure not to leave it on one spot for to long or you'll burn your hair.
Best Flat Iron Ever!

My hairstylist recommended this flat iron after hearing me complain about all the other ones I've tried. I'm so glad she did-this is the greatest. It makes my hair so soft and smooth. It's light weight and easy to handle. Thanks for a great product!
Solano is for VERY curly hair!

I at first had ordered the solia thinking that because it was more expensive and had better reviews, would naturally, be the better flat iron. However, I have very culry, coarse hair and have had no luck with "excellent" results. The solia was just another dissappointment. So, I exchanged it for the solano. Wow! This flat iron actually does what it is suppossed to do. I have cut straitening time by at least 10 minutes and have alot more shine. I do think hair products help, but this is the best iron I have ever tried. Don't be fooled by the more expensive irons!
Not what I expected!

My sister was the one who introduced me to the sapphire, however she had the 2nd to the biggest one. It was too heavy for me, otherwise worked great. I purchased this one thinking that everything was going to be the same except for the weight. WRONG..the plates seemed different. It pulled my hair and did not straightened my hair quite like the bigger one.I immediately spoke w/ a representative from folica. They informed me of another product & I am very happy w/ the new one.
Really good iron
