Product Rating: 3 It has pros and cons...
Reviewer: Allison   Fri Oct 30 2009

Unfortunately, my second Solano platinum dryer broke while I was drying my hair this morning, and it was the second one that has broken in the same exact manner - despite my not having dropped it or anything like that, the black plastic ring that separates the two halves of the dryer cracks and splits apart. Because of this, of course, the two halves don't hold together and the whole dryer is rendered useless.

I will say that both of my Solano platinum dryers lasted about 2.5 years before this happened, so it still has a longer lifespan than the cheap drugstore dryers I used to buy. It has a powerful motor, and two heat settings - the lower setting was enough to dry my fine hair each morning. The cool shot button also works very well. It is quite a heavy dryer, though.

After two broken Solanos, plus the fact that the dryer is so heavy, I am going to try something else next.

Product Rating: 1 Stop working after 3 month, wast of $

I have used this dryer for 6 years and I would still use it if I would not drop it. Its really durable, great quality and overall goood dryer.

I have used this dryer for 6 years with no problems. It would still work but I recently dropped it and some parts were damaged. This dryer is really great

Product Rating: 2 It had to be duct taped after 3 months to still work
Reviewer: Leah   Tue Dec 09 2008

I bought this product here and I had to duct tape my Solano only after three months. I never thought to keep the box or receipt (I do now for hair products) so I had to use tape to hold the plastic part that extends from the handle up to keep the thing together. And its not damaged from improper use or handling either. I am not a professional stylist but I have 1/2 a pound of extensions 16" long weaved into my hair so I have been on a quest for a dryer that can cut my drying time down, because I wont part with the thickness of my extensions ever. I am caucasian and my hair is curly and while this does a moderate job drying it all it's nothing to rave about. The engine is loud too. I mean you can hear and feel it running and its a heavy dryer too on the wrist so I thought that it was going to stand the test of time but nope. I heard such good things about this brand but I have to say I am not at all thrilled. I think my chi is better and I now only use this one to travel because I obviously don't care if it gets damaged. I must say if I didn't have extensions this might not be so bad for some, but the weight of it and the noise is not desirable either. The ChI is better, thick hair or not.

Product Rating: 5 Wonderful hairdryer!
Reviewer: Margot Freund from Miami Fl  Sat Sep 20 2008

I simply can not undertand the negative comments on the Solano Platinum. I have had mine for more than 7 years with no problem until recently, and that might have been caused by improper packing on my part for a recent commercial flight. It dries hair fast, and I never considered it to be heavy until someone suggested that it was. If you have a lot of hair, don't want to buy a new hairdryer every year, and are not a 90 pound weakling, this hairdryer is for you!

Product Rating: 1 Inconsistent and dead after 4 months
Reviewer: Laura from New York, NY  Wed Jan 16 2008

Bought a Solano on recommendation from my hairdresser. The air temp was inconsistent, fluctuating from extremely hot to mildly warm. The hairdryer itself was very hot to the touch at some points during my blowdry. The buttons are in inconvenient places so sometimes I accidentally turned the dryer off. And it died after only 4 months of use. I will never buy a Solano again.

Product Rating: 1 Product can burn and died one day after warranty period
Reviewer: Joe from Worcester  Wed Jan 02 2008

The Solano Platinum is way too heavy for regular use...has a metal nozzle that gets scorching hot and will burn human flesh upon the briefest of contact...but, you have to admire the engineering that went into this product...particularly with respect to planned obsolescence...mine died precisely one day after the warranty period lapsed and Solano refused to do anything for me...insisted that I pay for shipping to and from their company in addition to the $50 repair charge.

Product Rating: 1 Broke into four peices within a month
Reviewer: anonymous from San Francisco, California  Fri Sep 21 2007

I thought this dryer was great until it broke into four pieces within the first month of purchasing it. The design is not good, for the black plastic cannot hold the silver covers, so the front cover first broke when the black ring that held it in place cracked and eventually broke off of the dryer. Then the back silver cover that protects the fan, came off of the dryer exposing the fan because the black plastic ring cracked. Now my dryer, which I have used under ten times, is out of service. Urgh!

Product Rating: 5 Solano Platinum

I have owned Solano in the past and was very satisfied

This platinum is correctly named. It is fantastic..

Stylish, priced right and fast.It is a little heavier than the previous model I owned, but that's o k, because it takes less time to use.

Excellent choice

Product Rating: 2 Waste of Money
Reviewer: Lisa from OKC, OK  Wed May 16 2007

This hairdryer did work well while it worked, but it burned out within a few months of owning it. I returned it to have it fixed and had it back only a few months when it burned up again! Terrible disappointment, so save your money!

Product Rating: 2 Not worth it!
Reviewer: Kate   Tue Apr 10 2007

Will burn your hand if you slightly touch it while drying your hair. Died within one year. I thought it was going to catch on fire. It would set my fire alarm off. The brand makes other good products, but this particular product is just not worth it when there are so many other options.

Product Rating: 4 It is WORTH the $$$
Reviewer: Amomymous from Philadelphia, Pa  Tue Mar 27 2007

I have super curly hair. This dryer is powerful and has cut down on the time I have spent straightening my hair. I have never had a problem with it. It does become hot after use for a while, but it performs well. It is reasonably priced.

Product Rating: 2 disappointed...
Reviewer: michele from bronx ny  Sun Mar 04 2007

I purchased this blower alil over a year ago and it already died on me. The back fell off and the platinum part burns your hand if you accidently touch it. The gold concentrater didn't even fit. Solano cusomer service didn't help either. I just figure that the blower should've lasted alittle bit longer and I don't have kids, never dropped it once. It just died on me. Not worth the money. The brand is good, just not this model.

Product Rating: 4 Great Hair Dryer
Reviewer: Maya from San Francisco, CA  Wed Dec 20 2006

I love this dryer: easy to hold, a cool air button and enough setting to satisfy. The only thing to watch out for is that the dryer itself gets very, very hot as this model is metal, not plastic

Product Rating: 3 Not worth the $$
Reviewer: gabbie from washington, dc  Wed Nov 22 2006

There was no difference between my cheap dryer and this dryer... my hair was frizzy afterwards. the dryer is really heavy too and the barrel gets really, really hot! It did however dry my hair really super fast. Ive used professional dryer that have transformed my hair and left it super silky, this one does not perform :(

Product Rating: 4 I love my Solano Hair Dryer!
Reviewer: Shaheen Bhatti from Sugar Land, TX  Wed Oct 18 2006

I had high expectations when I ordered the Solano hairdryer. When I received it, it exceeded my expectations. I used to hate washing my hair because it took me over an hour to blowdry. Now it takes me 15 minutes to blowdry. The Solano is a huge timesaver and I'm happy to have bought it!

Product Rating: 5 Great stuff!
Reviewer: Anon.   Fri Oct 13 2006

Excellent dryer. A little on the heavy side but well worth the muscle. It dries thick hair very fast.
