I HAVE USED THIS INEXPENSIVE PRODUCT FOR YEARS NOW. I HAVE VERY SHORT, CURLEY, COURSE HAIR. -- I USE THIS AFTER I USE THE SMOOTH N'SHINE EXTRA HOLD (OR REGULAR) CONDITIONING GEL -LET MY HAIR DRY NATURAL AND USE THE POLISHING STRAIGHT OUT -- JUST A DAB WILL DO YA! -- GREAT!!!! AND IT IS GOOD FOR AFRO AMERICAN HAIR -- I AM NOT AFRO AMERICAN -- HOWEVER, THAT IS EVEN THE DEPT. SMOOTH AND SHINE IS IN. -- PLAY WITH IT AND U WILL LUV IT! --HOPE IT HELPS -- I KNOW HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO FIND THE RIGHT PRODUCT. THIS ONE WORKS AND IS SSSOOOO INEXPENSIVE. --- GOOD LUCK!
Its a pretty decent product

It works as far as straightening hair and maintaining shine and controlling frizz, however if one uses too much the hair will look flaky and very greasy.

I tried this product thinking that my virgin hair would get STRAIGHT! Instead, my hair was a hot mess. Not only did it not get straight, my hair was left sticky, dry, dull and hard! It was in worse condition than before. This product did not my relax hair, it only upset it! To show a picture would be degrading!

I have used this product for several years now. I love it. It straightens my hair very well. I used to relax my hair. Now with straight Out, I do not feel the need to. My hair is so much stronger than when I used relaxers. I have coily curls-kinky, if you may. This is the best non-chemical straightener I have ever used. You can use it for your new growth or between relaxers. This washes out on your next shampooing session.
works well with my daughters hair

i use this product when i used to use stiff gels before, i still get the results i want when flatironing and now my daughter only asks for this
Not for African American Hair

I have relaxed African American hair. I've tried using this product several different times. I tried it on my mother's hair (which is virgin african american hair that's extremely soft and wavy in some areas). It did nothing for our hair. I don't recommend this for any type of African American hair.
doesn't work well with straightening.

i've been straightening my hair for over two years now and was excited to try a new product. this gel had my hair feeling like straw! i was very disappointed and won't be buying this again. beware if you plan to use this as a heat protectant when ironing!

its a completely useless product..if you apply it on your hair, your hair will look like phooby and it doesnt straight the hairs at all..
I would recommend not to buy it.

I have tried every known product to take the mild frzz out of my hair. Everything from $40 L'oreal Oleo Nutritive, to Biosilk Silk therapy and Redken straight #6. I have even combined products. Nothing gave me exactly what I wanted......I would have a fine layer of frizz/puff. I decided to give this stuff a try. I have to tell you, Smooth 'N Shine Straight Out has to be one of the best things I have used. I have long thick hair, so I need to use a good sized amount, so I was thrilled to death that it did not make my hair look greasy!! My hair came out smooth, shiney, and only minimal need for my flat iron. Sor the price, this stuff rocks!!

Most people don't get that this is only a relaxer,, its not supposed to make you hair straight its only supoosed to turn your curly hair into more managable waves. or your waves into somewhat straight hair. for a relaxer it works like a god.

i guess it depends how thick your hair is. it made my hair soft but i dont know about the straight part. i use it with my solia flat iron and the results are just ok not great :-)

It does not stop frizz. Hair looks dull with no shine. It works like a regular gel.

This stuff works so well and is so cheap its unbeleivable. I've paid much more for products like phytowhatever, its not as concentrated and costs six times as much. Love it!

I was looking for a product that would leave my hair smooth and shiny when using a flat iron, this was not it. It was kind of sticky and it has a strong odor. It did not help with frizz and made my hair dull. I was dissapointed.

I've got thick, long, wavy, frizzy hair. I don't like that that balm is so sticky...but other than that it works pretty well. I use it with my straightening iron, and it keeps it straight for a few days. Just wish it wasn't so icky to put on. I've used other products that work better on my hair -- but my hair is pretty tough to tame. I'm sure it's great on average hair.

Your hair will still feel clean, not stiff, but soft after using STRAIGHT OUT. I love it!
