My Sedu Flat Iron performed as expected

I did a lot of research before purchasing a new flat iron. I had a CHI for 7 years and it finally broke after getting knocked off the counter onto the tile floor. I decided to go with a flat iron that may be better designed for my hair type. I have very thick "ugly" wavy hair that has partial highlights. The CHI did a nice job but after an hour in the humidity it felt as though I never used a flat iron. It was also only one inch thick. I have been using my new Sedu for 4 days now and it is performing well and what I would expect for a $120 flat iron. I bought the 1.5" flat iron for my longer hair. The Sedu striaghtens my hair in about 3/4 the time as the CHI. After a long day in outside, my hair still feels flat and healthy. My husband even noticed how nice my hair looked....which I thought was a big deal for a guy to take note. I highly recommend this flat iron to someone who needs to use it often and have longer hair. I don't know how worth the extra cost would be for someone with shorter, fine hair. It is definitely worth it for someone with my hair type. I am very pleased with the value.

This flat iron is the best ever. I have tried everything, CHI, and two other cheaper brands from Sally's Beauty Supply when my 1st Sedu kicked the bucket (I had it for 3 years and one day it stopped working?) But anyways, I have just gotten a new one and I love it just as much!!!
This flat iron works miracles!

I got this flat iron because of the great reviews and before/after pics and I was not disappointed!! I have 3 biracial children (black & white), each with different hair texture, and I struggle to do their hair every morning before school. But now that I have a Sedu my life is 100% easier!
I have included before and after pics of my middle child whose hair is the most difficult. Not only is it incredibly thick, it's also a variety of textures. Underneath it's a lot less curly and fine but the front and top is very coarse and kinky. (The before picture is how it looked after a wash and blowdry.)
This flat iron makes every strand of hair, no matter the texture, straight and silky with no fuss. I also love that it heats up so quick - 20 seconds and it's 410 degrees! I am in love! The Sedu has saved my life! I highly recommend it! :o)
awesome!

All women who have ever struggled to get and keep their hair straight... get this straightener!! It is, in my opinion, the best out there! I have had everything from Conairs to Herstyler and none of them (especially the Herstyler, horrible) have given me these kinds of results. I have thick, wavy and frizzy hair..I use Purology Anti-Fade Complex shampoo and conditioner with Redken's Smooth Down Heat glide serum, and even still my hair was helplessly frizzy and if it rained... forget it! Not only does the Sedu work amazing, I can now have pin-straight hair in less than 5 minutes! It makes my hair shiny and sooo soft! I know some people are skeptical about buying a straightener that's more than $100, but it's so worth every penny! Stop wasting your time and money on other flat irons, this is one of the best!

I have been wearing my hair natural for about 15yrs and did not want to put any chemicals in it. My options were to cut it (short fro)or grow locs. Over holidays last year a friend lend me her flat iron (not sure what brand) and I was iimpressed with the results. I decided to go and buy a CHI but as I did my research I stumbled on SEDU and OMG I LOVE IT. I never permed my hair and always wanted to try it but did not want the chemicals in my hair an besides I see some of my friends struggling with their hair. NOW I straighten my hair ONCE every 2weeks (People of african decent have try scalps and can't afford to wash our hair as often as other races). I wear a cap at night and in the morning all i need is a big comb to style my hair. And I live in Miami!!! NOTE: do condition your hair well and lightly oil or grease your hair before straightening. You won't regret it. Three people have bought sedu after seeing the results of my hair. ENJOY LIFE WITHOUT CHEMICALS!!!!!!

I just received my straightener and I love it! It works better than any other straightener I've had, and I have had a lot. My hair is thick and naturally wavy and frizzy, and the Sedu works wonders. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I wish they would make a 2" straightener of this same quality. I straighten my bangs too, and since the Sedu is thinner than my last flat iron, it's hard to not get a crease. But all in all, this works great! I only had to go over each section of hair twice compared to four or five times. My hair looks shiny and healthy! It does seem like a lot of money, but if you straighten your hair regularly, it's definitely worth it. :-)

i've had this flat iron since may 2007, and it's now feb. 2009 and it works just as it did when i first received it.
i have medium-thick hair that has natural big curls. my hair was already pretty malleable, and i could get it to do what i wanted very easily, the sedu just makes it glossy and straight and amazing.
i can't create ANY hairstyle without this.
I LOVE MY SEDU!!

I bought this 1 1/2" back in October 2008. I use is religiously. My hair is very thick and has a mind of its own! It's pointless to even use a curling iron, after 30 minutes it uncurls. After my 1st use I was telling everyone about Sedu. I get so many compliments when I use my flat iron. My hair looks so flawless, straight, shiny, and HEALTHY! I love it so much I told my hair stylist to get one. (She borrows a co-workers chi (which I don't recommend buying they break!). The Sedu Flat Iron heats up faster than I can bruch my teeth, it's amazing! It might seem like a lot of money, but it's the BEST investment you will ever make on your hair. Not to mention it will seriously boost your self esteem. When you feel pretty, it reflects! Just don't forget the protective spray!

I've had my Sedu for about 3 years now, and its working at about the same level as it did in the beginning. My hair is naturally straight to about the length of my chin, and from there on it flips out and curves in the oddest directions. I started out using it at the 330F setting on just the ends, and i noticed after about a month that i was getting some breakage, so i quickly switched to a lower setting. Since then I havent experienced any breakage, so this means you have to make sure you arent setting it too high, its just THAT powerful. Overall, its a dependable and cooperative flat iron, worth the money.
Save your time and money- go with the Sedu!!

I've already written a review, back when I very first got my 1st Sedu in Feb. of 2008, but I thought I would add another one about my experience...
My first Sedu was wonderful, and worked like magic on my thin but very curly hair, but to my horror my ex-boyfriend stepped on it (well.. I HAD left in on the floor under a towel, so it was my own fault) and his weight broke it in 2... and that kind of damage of course isn't covered by any warranty, so I ordered a replacement Sedu right away.
Again, my second Sedu was great. The plug was designed slightly differently, still worked like a charm though... but yet again, my neglect cost me another flat iron when this time I stepped on my Sedu after leaving it on the floor.. (think I would have learned my lesson the first time eh? Not so...)
Anyways, this time the damage wasn't as bad, as the iron still works, but the spring came out and I need to wrap an elastic around the base near the temp. setting to keep it together. Because both times the damage was my own fault, I wasn't dissapointed in the product. If I had taken the care to store it properly after use, I would be over $100 richer, but ya live and learn.
My 2nd Sedu is working ok despite the outside being broken, but it's a lot harder to get the same results as when it wasn't broken, so I decided I would get a new flat iron for now and get a new Sedu later. Because I'm from Canada, no Salons or beauty stores carry the Sedu, so I went for the CHI. What a mistake!!! I was expecting comparable results to the Sedu, but no. It pulled my hair out, caused a lof of damage even with a protection spray, burned my hair, and it smelled funny as it heated up. Overall was garbage.... totally NOT worth the nearly $150 CND. I spent on it. So I took it back and exchanged it with a "Ceramix" brand iron....
Not much better.... the plates didn't pull my hair, and I liked the digital temp. display, but it just wasn't good as my Sedu's AND was more expensive.
So long story short, I returned both and now have a $180 credit at the Beauty Supply outlet, but I ordered my 3rd Sedu online today, and this time am trying the 1" size plates since my hair is shorter now....the bonus mini-iron and extra 2 yr. warranty free bonus is great!!!
This 3rd Sedu will be taken care of properly, I SWEAR!!!!!
So, I hope this helps people who can't decide between the CHI and Sedu. Yes, the CHI is popular and well known, but it just doesn't compare and I can fully say that because I've tried both. :)
Good iron, but weird smell.

I have naturally loose, curly hair. I get a lot of frizz, expecially in humid weather. I plan to move to Florida (humidity central, yikes!) so I wanted a good flat iron for when I decidedd to straighten my hair. I really like the Sedu. It heats up almost instantly and doesn't snag or pull my hair at all and it leaves it very shiny. It glides over my hair smoothly and I only have to go over my hair once. The only spat I have with the Sedu is the smell it leaves on my hair. I've cleaned it, I've even not put any product in my hair just to see if something I was doing was causing that "burnt hair" smell. But nope, it was the iron itself giving off the smell. I would have to say that I like the Solia flat iron based on this reason. I never had a problem with the Solia (except for a friend breaking it on accident). Overall, the Sedu is a good iron, but I liked the Solia better. Oh an in my pictures, I liked leaving a natural wave to my hair when straightening with the Sedu. I wasn't going for the stick straight look.
Best Investment Ever!

So I used to use a cheap Wal-Mart straightener that snagged my hair all the time and didn't even get it as straight as I like. Then an hour later it would get little waves in it. It also damaged my hair like crazy. My hair is of average thickness, long, and wavy (the kinky kind of waves, not the super flowy kind). It shouldn't be too hard to straighten, yet it was. I finally decided to invest in a good straightener and I saw all the fantastic reviews for the Sedu.
Well, it really does work as well as it says! It makes my hair sooo shiny and doesn't snag it, and it also eliminates frizz. It cut my straightening time in half as well. I love it so much and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a top-of-the-line straightener. :D I live in humid Houston and it lasts all day and make my hair really soft. ^_^
P.S. The top picture is without a straightener (except for the bangs, those are straightened) and the bottom picture is after using the Sedu.
love it

I needed a new straightener cuz my other one was about 6 yrs old and wasn't cutting it anymore. I found this one and got it. I read the reviews and I was hoping it would work like everyone said and it works better! i have coarse curly with a wave thick hair and i live in michigan where the humidity sucks! This straightener kept my hair straight and cut my straightening time in half! I'm now looking at the sedu blow dryers :) and my hair even feels healthier!
Amazing!! Gets my crazy curls under control in record time!!!

So as you can see, it straightens very well. Can't see the length in the after, but using the Sedu trust me it more than doubles when it's straight versus when it's curly. I've tried CHI (hello?! I need a heat dial), Wigo, and some expensive ion flat iron. Returned them all after just the first use. If you are going to pay the money, you need the results and they should be instant. I have super spiral curls and I get my hair done with this Sedu in 20-30 minutes. The only thing I don't like about this is that it has 1 and 1/2 inch plates. I like a bit smaller so I can really flatten at the roots. No problem though! Gave this baby to my sister for her b-day (she was ECSTATIC) and ordered myself a 1 inch. I had it for 1.5 years before giving it to her and it still looks and works like new! Heats up in literally no time at all. Love love LOVE the Sedu.

I bought this a week ago, and for the first time ever, now i can make my super curly shoulder- long hair straight in about 10 minutes at home! The photo shows results afer 10 mins - if i took a little more time, I am sure the difference would be more dramatic. The tourmaline plates do make a big difference - my old flat iron by Solia was purchased almost 8 years ago and did a nice job. But it did dry out my hair, so i used it rarely. This one works faster, is more effective, and leaves my hair feeling far shinier and softer than the old one ever did. So the upgrade was well worth it.
great!

I decided to purchase the sedu after my solia began acting stupid...after a year and a half, the plates began to wear and it wasn't performing as well as it used to. And according to the reviews on folica, the sedu was rated the #1 flat iron by customers so i decided to give it a try. My hair is half-chemically processed, half-natural growth. I've decided not to get my hair relaxed anymore so I needed a strong, reliable and durable flat iron.
Anyway, it's a LITTLE better than the solia. With the sedu, my hair is smoother and not as "poofy" (and that has been an issue in the past - my hair being straight but poofy). My ends look healthier with the sedu AND my hair is softer.
I washed, conditioned and then applied both a heat protectant spray & paul mitchell's super skinny serum to my wet hair. I blow dried it and then began to iron it. My hair was straight within 45 minutes and super soft! =) I am satisfied.

This is my 1st straightening iron ever and I am very happy and pleased with it.
I first wash my hair and let it dry completely. I dont put anything on my hair to protect it from the heat. I leave it clean. I do each section of hair. Since my hair is thick and frizzy I go slow and use a comb as im straightening it. I adjust the tempature to accomodate my hair style, so i try different settings at 1st then i keep this setting always. 410 was to hot for my hair and 350 was ok, but 360 was just right. Hot enough to straightnen it but not to hot to burn my hair. For me it takes me about 45min (which i dont mind) b/c my hair is thick and fizzy and did i mention LONG. Obviously it will take time. I could use a HIGH setting but again, i dont want to fry my hair to a crisp.
Now, ive read some reviews that said that it pulled their hair at the ends. I believe it does that because people hold it to tight at the ends. I release the pressure as im heading down the ends but enough to do its job. Another reason would be because of the ends themselves. If the ends are damaged it will sound like a cracking sound (or if the hair is tangled as you pass the iron). My ends are the 1st to tangle so i use a fine brush at the ends as im straightning it and not let it tangle. No matter how much i passed the iron over it, my ends were still not as straight. So, i cut an inch of because i felt they were damaged. It worked.
To finish of i use "Smooth 'N Shine Polishing: Instant repair Hair Polisher" after my hair is all straight. There are many types of polishers and oils. There are some with aloe vera in them which i think will benifit the hair. My friend used one on me and it left my hair silky and smooth and not as oily (I'll keep u posted).
So really, theres not much to straightnening your hair. Not only does it do a good job but it doesnt burn my hair and hasent damaged it in any way. It also keeps my hair straight for a long time. The longest has been 4 days ( could go longer) without re-touch. I would sleep on it, tie it back with a pony tail, try hair styles, add hair spray, then at night.. comb it and leave it. I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants straight, smooth, manegable hair.
