Product Rating: 5 WOW! I'm impressed!
Reviewer: Richelle from Orange County, California  Tue Mar 24 2009

Let me start off by saying there really is no downside to this straightener. I owned a HairArt Ceramic straightener for 4 years, and when it died on me recently, I went in search of the highest quality iron. It took me a little bit to get used to how LIGHT the Sedu iron is...my old iron was pretty heavy, so at first it felt like the Sedu was not grabbing my hair very well...but I was wrong! I am a 23 year old, white female, with very THICK, semi-wavy and very much unruly brown hair. It used to take me about 30 minutes to straighten my hair, and I'd have to go over it again each day until I washed my hair. With the Sedu it takes me no more than 10-15 max, and I don't have to straighten again until I wash my hair 2 days later.

Not only that, but it glides through my hair so smoothly, and it NEVER pulls or rips my hair out.

I purchased it on sale from Folica.com for $108 and it came with free shipping, a flat iron mat and an extended warranty. You can't beat that price!

I can't comment on longevity, because I've only had it for just under 2 weeks, but I've loved it so far.

OH! And it curls beautifully. From gorgeous ringlets, to softer waves, it takes WAY less time to curl your hair using the Sedu than with a regular curling iron. In my opinion the curls look better too. :) If you DO plan on using the Sedu to curl your hair, make sure you purchase the 1" model, not the 1.5" model. Easier to curl with the smaller one.

Hope this helps any skeptical buyers! You won't regret buying this one!

Product Rating: 3 The Sedu Wasnt As Great As I Exptected To Be...
Reviewer: Vivian from Los Angeles, CA   Mon Mar 23 2009

My hair is wavy and frizzy. I was hoping the sedu would make it very smooth since it can make it straight for people who have really curly hair. The flat iron really dries out my hair.. I love that it heats up fast and that its light. but the straightness of my hair doesnt last very long throughout the whole day. i wouldnt recommend this flat iron..

Product Rating: 4 great little iron, but not the miracle everyone claims
Reviewer: Joy from Pennsylvania  Wed Mar 04 2009

My Chi died recently, so I decided to try the Sedu, based on so many great reviews. While I think that it is a really nice product, it is not the miracle flat iron that everyone claims.

Pros: It makes my hair really smooth, leaving very little frizz or fuzz, which was present with my Chi. I have thick, wavy hair that always had a wavy bump in the back, no matter how much I ran the Chi over it. The Sedu flattened this kink in my hair pretty well. I also like that I can curl my bangs under little. The Chi was too bulky for this to happen. The Sedu is slightly more compact than the Chi, and easy to hold and manage. While others prefer the swivel cord, I like the fact that the new model does not have one. That's how my Chi died; the swivel cord ending up popping out of the iron, which could be popped back in, but it never did work the same after that.

Cons: I don't find that it gets hot enough for my hair. I have to turn it up pretty high to get the super-flat salon look on my slightly-wavy tresses.

For a flat iron in the $100 range, the Sedu definitely wins over the Chi, but I would recommend looking for something more heavy-duty if you have unruly hair.

Product Rating: 3 I have used Solia, Chi, and Sedu. Not the best
Reviewer: Kat from Toronto ON  Tue Mar 03 2009

I had owned a Solia for years but it seems they always break when I go away for some reason. I decided this time to try something new. Previously I had ordered the Sedu revolution when it was new and hated it so much I returned it for the Solia. After using my roommates Chi, I was thinking I would bite the bullet and buy one despite so many negative reviews but I was too nervous so I ordered the Sedu which was supposed to be the best. Honestly, it is a good ergonomic design, gets super close to my roots but takes longer than the Chi and Solia by quite a bit. The plates are miniature and I had to double check that I had ordered the right one. Solia and Chi straighten quickly, with Chi being better at getting to the roots. I hate to say it but Chi is the absolute best. I know it has a terrible reputation but hands down it works. Sedu is probably less damaging and if you like to take a lot of time on your hair and tiny plates then fine, but I find the plates just too slippery to grip and straighten my hair. 100 bucks is not a hell of a lot of money compared to the frustration and stress it takes to strengthen without an iron but honestly, get the Chi. If it lasts a year, it's still better worth for your money. I'm going to keep it since its pricey to return, but will look for a cheap Chi online.

Product Rating: 5 New to Sedu & In Love!
Reviewer: Rachel from Richmond, Virginia  Mon Mar 02 2009

Recenly purchased CHI Silk Infusion & the Keratin Spray. So I figured it was time for a better working flat iron that didn't break my hair off, and pull it out by catching my hair at the corners of the flat iron. My hair had to be cut about 2 months ago because of breakage, so it is right at my shoulders and in layers. This is only the second flat iron I have owned so I can not say it's the best out there. But it is amazing, and the best I've ever used. Your hair Will shine, Will feel soft, and it Will bounce. I don't like my hair stick straight, but with a little subtle curl to it. Sedu causes my curls to over 24 hours. If you use this with the Silk Infusion you can expect your hair to be very shiny, soft, manageable and full of body. I couldn't keep my hands out of my hair! Not to mention the great smell. I've even used Sedu without any hair sheen & a little Silk infusion and was able to iron my hair in about 10 minutes flat, and it was full of body, soft & bouncy. I am African American, with relaxed hair and highlights only, take it from me, Sedu is expensive, but a good investment. Not to mention it really heats in 20-30 seconds! Happy straightening!!

Product Rating: 5 Great product!
Reviewer: Private from Iowa City, Iowa  Sat Feb 28 2009

Ok, I've actually never thought of getting a flat iron before because I always thought they wouldn't work on my hair or at least I'm too hopeless at using one. So, I always relied on my hairdresser to straighten my hair. But now I'm in the US and the hairstyling is way too expensive. SO, I did a lot of research and read reviews about a lot of products and finally decided to buy the Sedu - a great choice!

My roommate kept telling me that these reviews don't reflect the truth and that those pictures are fake. I was actually thinking the same thing. But I wanted to give it a try anyway. I'm glad I did. It's a great product and I can straighten my hair even better than my hairdresser here - no kidding.

It's perfect for my coarse, thick, very curly (not like the ones shown here, I mean really curly not wavy). And as I get more experience I get even better results each time. I love this product. The only thing is it takes a long time to straighten my hair since I have a lot of hair but I don't care. I wouldn't change this product for any other!

Product Rating: 4 Honest review for curly girls!
Reviewer: Joanne from Originally from the UK, now Pennsylvania  Wed Feb 25 2009

I have now had my Sedu for almost two months and feel that I can now give an honest review after using it every week since it arrived! Yes, there are already many reviews stating how wonderful this flat iron is, and I have to agree. What you do need to realize, is that the results you achieve will be entirely dependent upon the texture of your hair in combination with product. I ooo'd and aaaa'd over many of the before and after pictures and held the slim hope that I might too get similar results. Don't get me wrong, I love this iron, but if your hair happens to be like mine (very thick, very wavy and most importantly, very coarse), then your results WILL differ from those pictures that you see. I use Chi Silk Infusion before blow drying and again on each section before ironing. My hair looks so much better on a daily basis, but I don't think there can be any flat iron out there that will eradicate the coarse appearance. Regardless of this, I will forever be using this iron. I love the fact that I can get up in the morning and run a comb through my hair and it actually looks tidy, yes, tidy. My previously curly hair had a mind of it's own and never looked the same from one day to the next! I am planning a trip to the UK this summer and will have to buy the European model so that I don't have to revert to my old frizzy ways! Enjoy!

Product Rating: 4 Great straightening power - possible design issue
Reviewer: Andrea   Mon Feb 23 2009

I loved my Sedu. I've always had thick, course, unruly hair. For years I kept my hair pulled up all the time because it was out of control. I finally decided that it was worth the cost and, after much research, bought myself one of these straighteners. All I can say is WOW! For the first time in, well forever, I was able to really style my hair. I was amazed to discover that I have beautiful hair, apparently it just needed the right tools (and a decent hair cut of course). Unfortunately after a little under 2 years my Sedu is on the fritz. I doesn't heat right, or at all sometimes. The problem seems to be in the connection between the cord and body of the straightener, I have to hold the cord it a really specific, awkward position for it to work. It has never been dropped and I do not pull or wrap the cord, it just started acting up suddenly. Of course Sedu's warrently doesn't cover cord issues. Perhaps (hopefully) this is just an issue with this one as I'm planning to purchase a second when this one gives out completely. So, great product, but for the price I would have liked for it to last a little longer.

Product Rating: 5 great!
Reviewer: Amanda   Sun Feb 15 2009

I have very long (approx. 16 inches), normal, wavy hair that I style my hair every day. I used 3 different kinds of retail-brand straighteners that fried my hair. I had to use a load of hairspray almost every time I straightened it to prevent waves and it still didn't last very long. I got fed up and did some research and bought a Sedu, my first salon-quality straightener. It was the best investment I have ever made. It leaves my hair SUPER soft, even with my ancient retail-brand hair-dryer. My hair stays straight even if I have to walk through rain or snow!

Product Rating: 1 Not what i expected

So after i read all the good reviews on this iron i decided to give it a go. I am so dissapointed in this iron. It does not get hot enough for me. my hair is still poofy. my cheapo one almost works better. The only think i will say is it doesnt snag ur hair. but i am definitely returning this cold iron!

Product Rating: 2 Cheaply made
Reviewer: Jordan   Fri Feb 13 2009

My Sedu broke within 2 months of using it, and I took EXCELLENT care of it. One day, when straightening my hair, the spring broke, and it wouldn't clamp down all the way. Very cheaply made.

Not only that, the Sedu isn't the miracle worker everyone makes it out to be. I was expecting pin straight hair out of the straightener, but I still ended up with little flips at the end, which is the problem I have with most straighteners. It could never quite flatten the ends. My hair is only wavy, not curly. It's very thick, but not exactly out of control.

My hair was shiny after using the straightener, but there were sections that looked a little fried, especially on the ends.

The other thing I liked about this straightener was how fast it heated up. It reached it's heating point within 15 seconds every time. It was wonderful! Too bad it didn't work that well.

This straightener is not worth the price. It does what most other straighteners do at the $50 range, except they won't break on you like this one.

Product Rating: 2 Great Straightener, Bad Power Switch
Reviewer: KB from Arkansas  Mon Feb 02 2009

The Sedu 1" that I bought in November 2007 straightened my hair very well. I feel the Sedu straightens without as much damage to my hair as some straighteners. However, it lasted less than a year before the power switch quit working. Folica.com was great and sent me a new one for $9.95 in October 2008. This morning 02/02/09, the power switch on the replacement quit working. I paid $118.00 for the first one. $10 for the replacement. If I pay $10 for another replacement, that is the price of two Chi's. Besides, the Chi I bought for my child straightens my hair a lot faster than the Sedu. I'm not impressed with the Sedu.

Product Rating: 2 Returned it!
Reviewer: Danielle   Sun Feb 01 2009

I got this item for Christmas because I read positive reviews about it. I have coarse and thick wavy hair. There was something wrong with the heat settings because I had to turn the item on and off a couple of times to reach maximum heat. And when it was, it really didn't straighten my hair. I was not happy with this product, returned it and would not buy another.

Product Rating: 5 Great purchase

This is my first flat iron ever because I have naturally straight and fine hair. I wanted to buy a product that is at its best quality so my hair does not get damaged. I am thirlled with Sedu and would recommend to everyone. The package I got with this purchase was a free warranty and little flat iron as a bonus. The shipping was free and I got the package two days after I placed an order. And I am in So Cali!!! It was super fast and I am loving my new purchase.

Product Rating: 1 Sedu Beauty- Very Misleading!!
Reviewer: Alaine Lozano from Cincinnati,Oh  Fri Jan 30 2009

I am a professional stylist and I have owned the large Sedu flat iron for years. It is the most amazing flat iron I have ever used. The smoothness of the plates is unmatched. I purchased the Revolution and while the Sedu-Beauty website boasted a 9 foot professional swivel cord with surge protection the one I received had a 5 ft cord no swivel which is essential when curling the hair or the cord tangles to the point that it will no longer move. So I purchased the classic Sedu 1 inch flat iron which was also noted on the website as having a ( foot swivel cord with surge protection. When I recieved it the cord was 9 feet with no swivel or surge protection. When I contacted this company about my purchases I was told that Sedu needs to update their website because they no longer make a swivel cord. They did not go out of their way to retain me as a customer. This company and any company that sells Sedu brands will never have my faith or business again. I view them as misleading by their false advertising. I have been very inconvenienced and disappointed.

Product Rating: 5 Its the best
Reviewer: Megan from NJ  Fri Jan 30 2009

I have been using my Sedu for almost two years now. It is by far the best flat iron I have ever used. Before the Sedu, I was using drug store brands and the Sedu has made all the difference. I don't even need to use any heat protectant as my hair has never seemed fried or damage from using it. Actually, my hair seems to be less damaged when I use it. If you're looking for a flat iron and not sure what to get, get the Sedu. You won't regret it.

Product Rating: 3 Not as good as I thought.
Reviewer: Hayley from Canada  Thu Jan 29 2009

I was expecting FANTASTIC, amazing, smooth hair. I would recommend it but it didn't get nearly as smooth and flat as when I go to the salon. It doesn't pinch at all compared to the Conairs I owned before. It didn't cut my straightening in half. I actually think it takes longer. It keeps my hair straighter longer though. I used it for a week straight and my hair got super fried already so I wouldn't say get it for daily use. Overall it's pretty good but beware if you live in Canada. At the time I bought it, it was $20 off a 100 purchase. It was $80 then you pay $15 shipping, then a $22 fee then it turned out for the hair straightner it was $130 with the exchange. I don't think it was worth the price but I do like it. I was expecting to much from it.

Product Rating: 2 Straightens, but doesn't last long
Reviewer: Anonymous   Tue Jan 27 2009

I have curly/wavy hair below my shoulders and have been straightening it for years with cheapos that actually straightened it really well, but I decided to get an expensive flat iron thinking it would do even better. So, when I got my sedu in the mail the other day I was absolutely thrilled to use it after reading all of the great reviews, and I'll admit that it did straighten my hair really well, but it took me much longer to do all of my hair than with my old cheap straightener and after only a few hours my hair started to wave up again. The main reason I got it was thinking that it would keep my hair straight throughout the day and it was really disappointing to come home and see my hair looking like..well..crap again. Despite the good results right after using the Sedu, the iron is overall average at best, and if you want long lasting results you won't get it from this one. I'm definitely returning this product and buying something different and hopefully MUCH better.

Product Rating: 5 AWESOME!!!
Reviewer: Anne from Boston, MA  Tue Jan 27 2009

I obsessively researched flat irons and decided to get the Sedu 1". I LOVE this flat iron. I have thin mostly straight hair, so I use flat irons to smooth it and make it shiny. I used to have a Wigo, but that always seemed to snag my hair. The Sedu is so smooth, never snags and my hair always looks healthy. It also works with my layers to add just enough body and shape if I want to flip/curl the ends. I recommend this flat iron to everyone!

Product Rating: 1 not happy with the equipment
Reviewer: Erika from Nashville, TN  Mon Jan 26 2009

The straightner works great...for as long as it works! I have gone through 2 of these. My first one shorted out at the swivel end where the cord meets the base. Folica replaced the first one, however, the second one has done the same thing and the warranty only lasts the time span since the original was purchased. Now I am stuck with a $130 straightner that does not work :/....
