Sooo glad I did my homework and went with this instead of a Chi. It works just as well (maybe better?) and I expect it to last a lot longer. My VERY curly hair is straight and sleek with only one pass. It stays that way too even through humidity!!! I'm officially in love. Recently my Solia 1 1/4 inch hit the floor for its last time, so I decided to try this Sedu. I was a bit dissapointed in the initial quality if this, especially considering that it cost about $20.00 more than the Solia and it doesn't get as hot as the Solia. It just didn't feel as durble in my hand as I thought it should for the price. And if you are looking to curl or wave your hair this is not the flat iron you want. It straightens quite well and I have very thick wavy/curly slightly coarse hair and it does make it silky straight. It hasn't shorted out like the 3 other Chi's i've owned, and it still heats up nicely after tumbles. I like to "farrah faucet" (please excuse the spelling) the front sections of my hair after I straighten it, and always have to pull out the big curling iron, because the plated section of this iron is too flat and so you get creased flat wings when you use this to try and curl your hair with this iron. It could be my technique, but after 10 or so years of doing this successfully with other flat irons, I doubt it. I think this iron is good, but not great, and even thought its not broken i'm shopping for another Solia. I have been straightening my hair for years using many different types of flat irons and none had been easier to use and has made my hair feel so soft and smooth than the Sedu Flat Iron. I have very thick and curly hair and it does wonders. It heats up very quickly and I never have to use the highest setting to get my hair straight, which I always have had to do on previous flat irons. I HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone who is interested in a quality flat iron! I purchased this flat iron after many reviews on this site. i have very thick african-american hair. I have permed my hair for many years, but almost a year ago, I began to get my hair braided. I decided that I needed a really good flat iron to cope with my hair....and MAN this is the best $100 I have ever spent. My hair has bounce! It has shine. It feels healthy...without a chemical. If you are on the fence about this product, jump over the fence ladies! If I could get my hair straighened with this thing...ANYONE CAN! Forget about the 1 1/2" iron. This 1" does just fine unless you have REALLY unruly hair. I love this. It works so well, even when my hair is still a little wet. It's very travel friendly. I only wish it curled better.
