like the salon submitted by: alexandra, Thu Sep 08 2005

as people have said before it helps if you put some type of product in your hair before/while you straighten it. for medium hair like mine you should you a light hairspray over each section before you straighten it. for coarser hair for might want to maybe put in some styling lotion when its wet for extra hold later. please never ever straighten wet or even damp hair! (im VERY skeptical about those wet to dry straightners) so its best to use probably an fine mist hairspray, that won't get your hair too wet (because your hair cuticle can burst if there is water in it and it starts to boil!). also use a COMB when straightening your hair, it really very easy even on my long hair. the hair straightner really gets too hot for you to just touch your hair after, plus it really does prevent hair damage and that's what they do in salons! i always turn the setting up to 200 degrees so if you having problems with your hair not staying straight add a holding product like hairspray and make the straighner hotter. you hair really should not get frizzy even during humidity and stay nice straight until you want to wash it.

I have noticed that the more taughtly you squeeze on the plates, the flatter and shinier your hair gets. It is hard to say in words, but take a section of hair, and starting at the root pull the iron through the hair, holding and squeezing FIRMLY on the plates. You'll love the results.
What width? submitted by: A, Thu Mar 24 2005

Ok, here is my advice for when choosing what size of straightener to get, just to save you some trouble, although it is pretty simple. If you have really curly hair and/or coarse hair, I would go ahead and get the wider plates because they save lots of time. However, otherwise I would get the smaller plate width. Personally, I haven't noticed that the length of your hair plays a big difference, but Im not sure.

For Best Results your should always use some sort of styling product in your hair. They are made so that they help protect against heat damage. After you wash your hair you should always blow dry it straight (if its not straight already then comb it out. when straightening take sections and run a comb through your hair as you are pulling the straightener through rite after the comb. dont pull the straightener through extremely fast .. use a steady pace and you should get great results.
