I've had my Sedu for a year now ant it has worked wonders on me. It used to take me one hour to straigthen my hair, with the sedu it only takes me 15 minutes with great results. One thing i didn't like was that it's head gets pretty hot so you get burned easily.
Yes, everything was perfect until today that it broke. I was using it as always and all of the sudden it's temperature raised a lot and then it turned off. Couldn't turn it back on. You would expect for a flat iron this expensive to last at least twice as the cheap ones I have had but no.
Broken before a year

I ordered this staightener not even a year ago. It is true that is works wonderfully but it is too expensive to break when it wasn't even used all that much.
best straightner ever!!

I used to have one of those $20 straightners but it didnt really work for me. After alot of research i decided on the sedu and all i can say is wow. I'n african american and have very thick hair. I usually go to my salon to get my hair relaxed but after using the sedu im not going anymore. My hair looks as if i have relaxed and its so soft and shiny. If you have thick hair curly hair you must by this staightner!!!
Love it!

I have naturally curly and thick brown hair and I LOVE this product. With my other straightener, I believe it was a Revlon piece of crap, it took about 45 minutes to do my whole head. With the Sedu, it now takes 15 minutes or less. The best part is that it lasts too! I usually only have to straighten it one day and it's good for 2-3 days after. I've recommended this product to two different people who have both said that my hair looks great. Awesome product!
Yay!

I am biracial (black and white) and I have curly hair that, I will admit, some people call "good hair." It can get frizzy, but as long as I put in some leave-in conditioner after the shower the curls are actually fairly loose and under control. My hair, however, does NOT take well to new things-it doesn't hold color or straighten for very long at all. I have a CHI which is a good straightener, but I really needed something with heat settings and that would snag my hair less. The more I used the CHI the worse it seemed to get. My ends dried out (which is understandable of course there will be some heat damage), but it actually seemed to start getting harder to straighten my hair. I had to run over each piece (and there were many many pieces) three-five times just to go to the club and sweat it back to curly again. I gave up. It just wasn't worth the time and effort. Then I went online to begin a new search. I found the Sedu and did lots of homework on it (I read 1000 reviews on this site and elsewhere) all in all the Sedu seemed to get very very good reviews. Sure it didn't work for some people and for others it broke, but that happens and I understand that. Folica was awesome. I ordered on Tuesday and received the iron (and free cooling pouch thingie) by friday (with FREE shipping). I washed my hair and let it dry put on some Frizz-eze heat serum stuff and my hair straightened on the first time!!! MY RELUCTANT HAIR! It also did not snag at all, and it left my hair shiny instead of looking dry (though it still kinda had that pressed smell I won't deny that). I was so excited and confident in this straightener that I cut 6 inches off of my hair into a cute new style that I wanted so bad, but refused to get until I had a straightener that I could trust (just because it looks better on straight hair). Now my hair is still straight even when I wake up! The difference is so obvious that even my boyfriend commented on it-YES MY BOYFRIEND...A GUY. I don't even have to use the straightener everyday. I can just wake up brush my hair and go. This is definitely a good hair straightener and I would recommend it for anyone including someone of a mixed race.

I have thick, curly, unprocessed hair. I have tried almost every type of flat iron on the market to give me the straight look, they all have failed. I came across Sedu flat irons on the internet loved the before and afterv pics so decided to try it. I love this iron. It makes my hair bone straight and adds shine without pulling or burning the strands. I just have to mke sure my hair is clean and completely dry, with no added products except for some leave in conditioner and it looks as if I relaxed it.
look no further

I did extensive research, months, including speaking with my hairdresser first - start there. I can't imagine leaving the house without ironing with my Sedu. I love the dial so I can adjust the heat for my hair and my daughters. I invested in this 1 1/2 size because I included my daughter in the decision factor. I was immediatly impressed. As soon as I received it, I plugged it in and tried it out (after reading instructions). I could not believe the straight hair I always desired finally looked like I had imagined it all my 43 years. I use the moisturizing spray after I get out of the shower at night, and then straighten in the morning. I love what it does for my hair - it is amazing. Do your research and find the best price, guarentee (2 years) and purchase from Folica - or just save time and get it now! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT

My second Sedu

I purchased my first Sedu in September of 2007. In June of 2008 it stopped working. The red reset button on the plug would not stick. I called Folica and they gave me instructions on how to send it back. You have to pay a small fee, but it was worth it to me to have it replaced. Once they recieved it, they sent me an email and send me another one. It was a very smooth process and I am so glad the Sedu has a two year warranty. The new one has a different plug, so maybe it won't quit on me. Also, it has a funny smell when I plug it in, but I am hoping it will get better. I still love the iron. I bought a remington to use while I was without my Sedu and it was good, but it doesn't compare to the Sedu. Folica has great customer service!!

I researched this sedu straighter for months feeling that I was making the best choice bc of all the great reviews. I was so excited to finally use it. Well.. i got the iron in on wednesday plugged it in to make sure it worked it did.. then on thursday i used it to get ready work it didn't straightner my hair that good i didn't complain. Then, on friday I plugged it in.. well to my surprise IT DIDN'T WORK!! The green light didn't come on i thought don't panic maybe i could just reset it well.. the sedu doesn't have a reset button!! What was I to do? I had to be at work in thirty mins! So i ran downstairs tried it in all the plugs i saw'll.. IT STILL DIDN"T START UGH! I was mad;( When u paid over 100 dollars for a straightner u expect good quailty, right? Well I finally just used pulled out my old Chi which I have had for a year and half. The CHI STRAIGHTNER SAVED THE DAY!! I will never buy a sedu product ever again!!
Better off buying one from Walmart

It makes your hair stick up and doesnt straighten well unless you have fine hair. I sent it back. The one I have from walmart as a back up works better than this thing.
I loved this flat iron BUT...

I bought this flat iron in April and it quit in June (less than 2 months of use!) I was upset, to say the least. I couldn't understand why a $100+ product would quit so quickly! However, my husband replaced the plug on the end of the flat iron, and it's as good as new. I'm still ticked that the plug it came with was so cheap, but the fix was cheaper than buying another flat iron of any brand. I still love my Sedu!

It seemed to have worked well. My hair is thin and it burned. I guess it would be okay for thicker hair. I was scared that it would break so I returned it. Customer service was kind of weird. I was hung up on several times, but I did finally get my money back.
If it works on my hair than this will work for you!

I have extremly thick, wavy, and puffy hair(trust me nothing like you have seen before). After using my Chi product for almost a year I noticed that my hair was never fully straight and it always seems to become puffy by the end of the day. I purchased my Sedu iron a week ago and I have noticed a big difference, my hair is now sleek straight and it never gets puffy by the end of the day. I read many reviews and was extremely skeptical, and if Sedu can make my hair sleek straight than this will work for you.

I had my Sedu for not even a year before it began to short out. It still works fine, but all you hear is the crackling of the electric. Well, low and behold the other day I was using it and saw sparks coming from the cord (it was always put away after use, no rough usage). I stopped using it and just ordered myself a Chi, the flat iron you know you can't go wrong with!
SEDU vs SOLIA

I actually have both straighteners,
I've bought a Solia 3 times because it kept breaking, the plates fell off everytime! This is my 3rd time with the Solia and the plates broke off but Im still using it with a Heat Glue to glue back the plates in and it works. Anyways, i have wavy poofy hair medium because Im half black half and my hair is pass my shoulders length and when I used the solia, it straightened it but there was no silkiness or shine WHATSOEVER! And it didnt make my hair feel to good even if I used great products like the Chi silk infusion So i was considering buying the Sedu and it worked amazingly! Its like the Solia but much more shine and silkiness. And plus, It was really straight.
-BUT IF YOUR CONSIDERING ON GETTING THE BEST OF THE BEST STRAIGHTENERS THEN YOU SHOULD USE --> THE CHI WET 2 DRY FLAT IRON. My stylist uses that one and it works so amazing! SO STRAIGHT, SILKY AND SHINE! but sometimes it depends on what products you use like i use The Redken Heat Glide which works great you have to put it on while your blowdrying your hair and then I use the Mastercuts Flat Iron Spray! It works great and makes your hair smell so good! SO IN MY OPINION, SOLIA VS SEDU? SEDU WOULD TOTTALLY BEAT IT 100%

Please people do not waste your money. I was not happy with this product at all. It says it have smooth iron that do not pull your hair BUT IT DOES. And only after my second use the iron got messed up and the plates are not smooth at all anymore. THAT ONLY AFTER MY SECOND USE. And i always made sur i kept the plates clean. One i got for 40 dollars work the same and it took a year before the plates started chipping. PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

I am Puerto Rican and have very curly, frizzy hair. My hair stylist always uses the CHI on my hair but I decided to buy a sedu based on its reviews. At first it was weird and it took me forever. Now I have the hang of it and its very simple. I don't even need to blow dry my hair first like I used to. I wash my hair, apply some sort of protectant/conditioner and let it dry overnight. In the morning I take piece by piece with the comb and the iron and its amazing. I would have never imagined I could do this WITHOUT a blow drier. Aweson. Only bad thing is that it gets super hot and you cant hold it around the grips that it has.
really good at first

Sedu vs. Chi

Ok. So, before I bought this Sedu, I had been a CHI user for at LEAST 6 years. I thought the CHI was the BEST straightener there was. I am Asian, but I don't have that smooth, straight hair most Asian girls do. I have wavy (not the pretty ones either), kinky, coarse hair. It's also dry and prone to getting split ends. So, here's the low down. =P
I LOVE THE SEDU!!! 100000 times more than my CHI, and I didn't think I'd ever stop loving the CHI.
Pros and Cons of both are:
CHI 1"
Pros: heats up super fast and super hot, STAYS hot, swivel cord, good size, easy to use, shiny and straight hair
Cons: makes me and my hair EXTREMELY hot/almost sweaty, fries my hair, gives me BAD split ends.
SEDU 1"
Pros: heats up super fast and super hot, STAYS hot, good size, easy to use, no split ends, keeps my hair shiny and healthy
Cons: no swivel cord (I have to unwhirl it a bit if I'm using it to curl my hair like I did with my CHI), takes a little bit longer to do my hair now (15 min. tops)
So, there it is. Both are REALLY good at keeping your hair straight, but I have to say, I never thought my hair would be without split ends and feel so pretty!! It used to be all crunchy feeling like it was SUPER DRY. I'd use the best shampoo and conditioners and nothing. But with the Sedu, it just FEELS and LOOKS healthier.
It looks the same in pictures, so I won't put any up.
