I've had the SEDU since Christmas of 2006 and I absolutely loved it! It heats up very well and it left my hair very silky. My friends always loved using it because of the quality. It was working fine up until a few weeks ago. I'd plug it in and the green light would turn on and it would heat up but as soon as I picked it up to use it, the green light would turn off (which meant it would lose heat) and then turn back on and it would continue doing this until I was finished doing my hair. Because of this, it didn't leave my hair as straight and silky as I wanted. I know it's been almost 2 years but for the price I paid, I expected it to last me a little longer. I was devastated and I was even thinking about investing in a GHD but I realized that I'm still covered under the warranty so I'm in the process of returning it.. we'll see how it goes.
If you're thinking about getting one.. go for it because it was good while it lasted, but don't be surprised if it goes berserk after a while... and I took care of mine too and made sure not to wrap the cord around it..
THE BEST ONE YET!!!

I have a a bob haircut for the first time in 25 years. I've always had super short hair and now I have hair to play with! I've been using the Conair flat iron. It pulls my hair so I read up on other flat irons. From the reviews it looked like this was the one to buy. I'm so glad I did! It heats up fast, it never pulls and it straightens perfectly. My only complaint is it doesn't shut off automatically when you aren't using it.
just got it today =]

Worked Great, But Lasted Only 2 Years

I purchased this product from Folica about 2 years ago (25 months to be exact). The first Sedu I purchased shorted out the first time I plugged it in, but it was replaced by Folica quickly. Upon receiving the new one, I was extremely with its performance. I have quite long, fine, semi-wavy hair and very prone to frizz and flyways. Using the Sedu straightener solved these problems: no more weird flips and curls at my ends, less frizzy, more shiny - not to mention extremely straight. In short, I loved the straightener for the 2 years it lasted. I used the straigtener sparingly, about 2-3 times a week. However about a month ago, it started malfunctioning: it wouldn't power up.
I didn't expect such poor return on my investments. $125 for a tool I used for only 2 years! I am considering buying an inexpensive ceramic flat iron now since I don't have super curly hair - and plus the fact that I don't want to shell out $100+ for a piece of technology which should be decidedly cheaper (it's an iron, for gods sake - with a few tweaks!).
Amazing,Fantastic!!!!!!!

WORKED GREAT THEN BROKE

My mom purchased this straightener for me about 2 years ago and it worked great! I have really thick, wavy/curly hair but the iron straightened it really well. I used serums and things like that to help also. I was very satisfied with the iron until about 5 months ago when the green light started to flicker on and off. I have to jiggle and wiggle the cord now to get it to work. Now my hair doesn't straighten as well because the iron is off half the time until i jiggle it to turn on. Im very dissapointed because we paid a good $120 and it just broke. Now im looking for a Chi because my cousins had hers working for 5 years and 4 girls use it OFTEN. Sedu was great at first but a tragedy at the end.

I've had mine for almost two years and have dropped it on tile a dozen times and it still works like new.
I wouldn't go with anything else.
Good but doesn't last as long as it should.

I have used this flat iron for years and yes it is good. The only thing is that it doesn't last that long for how much it costs. I went through 3 Sedu's..usually 1 per year before it starts messing up. What it does is it only turns on if you hold it a certain position which makes the temperature unreliable. I think the wiring should be made more durable and travel friendly because I used to take this everywhere with me. After having gone through 3 Sedu's I decided to go with another flat iron because my hairstylist has had hers for as long as she has been cutting my hair (4 years or so...and this is the Global Beauty flat iron...not the original Chi but it just says Global Beauty). My hair looks great after every haircut and flat ironing. Anyway, I rated it "Good" because it does straighten my thick thick thick (seriously) asian, coarse, 3b/a curly hair...but I just want a flat iron that will last longer because it's not cheap. I'm still waiting for my Global Beauty flat iron to arrive this week and hope it performs just like my hair stylists flat iron.
ok, but not the miracle everyone says it is

ok, so first of all, i just straightened my hair, and it looks ok (i am a mix of african and indian), but it is not as great as everyone is saying it is, i honestly should have bought the CHI, but i bought the sedu and my hair looks worse than when i straightened it with my conair piece of crap flat iron that was $20, that is honestly really sad, and i will probably take back the sedu and get a CHI, but seriously, I AM STARTING TO LOSE ALL HOPE!! i will try the CHI and see what results i get, but honestly, i am super p.o.-ed that everyone says it is good, when really it is just an expensive waste of time!
OMG!!!!

OMG!This iron is absolutely the best ever. I was using a CHI w/2" ceramic plates that I thought I liked...until I tried the Sedu. The CHI fried my hair, it always pulled & tugged at my hair and it made it smell burnt, not to mention it was heavy and bulky and the temp. control was located in a weird place. The Sedu is lightweight, great temp. control, no burning or frying of my hair and usually one pass does my hair. It just glides right thru my hair. I have medium length, coarse, wavy/frizzy color-treated hair that the Sedu gets under control quickly and easily. I will never be without it! Folica gives you 30 days to try it out first and they ship quick. You can't lose.
Would have rated it the best unitl...

I've had my Sedu for a year now ant it has worked wonders on me. It used to take me one hour to straigthen my hair, with the sedu it only takes me 15 minutes with great results. One thing i didn't like was that it's head gets pretty hot so you get burned easily.
Yes, everything was perfect until today that it broke. I was using it as always and all of the sudden it's temperature raised a lot and then it turned off. Couldn't turn it back on. You would expect for a flat iron this expensive to last at least twice as the cheap ones I have had but no.

I ordered this staightener not even a year ago. It is true that is works wonderfully but it is too expensive to break when it wasn't even used all that much.

I used to have one of those $20 straightners but it didnt really work for me. After alot of research i decided on the sedu and all i can say is wow. I'n african american and have very thick hair. I usually go to my salon to get my hair relaxed but after using the sedu im not going anymore. My hair looks as if i have relaxed and its so soft and shiny. If you have thick hair curly hair you must by this staightner!!!
Love it!

I have naturally curly and thick brown hair and I LOVE this product. With my other straightener, I believe it was a Revlon piece of crap, it took about 45 minutes to do my whole head. With the Sedu, it now takes 15 minutes or less. The best part is that it lasts too! I usually only have to straighten it one day and it's good for 2-3 days after. I've recommended this product to two different people who have both said that my hair looks great. Awesome product!
Yay!

I am biracial (black and white) and I have curly hair that, I will admit, some people call "good hair." It can get frizzy, but as long as I put in some leave-in conditioner after the shower the curls are actually fairly loose and under control. My hair, however, does NOT take well to new things-it doesn't hold color or straighten for very long at all. I have a CHI which is a good straightener, but I really needed something with heat settings and that would snag my hair less. The more I used the CHI the worse it seemed to get. My ends dried out (which is understandable of course there will be some heat damage), but it actually seemed to start getting harder to straighten my hair. I had to run over each piece (and there were many many pieces) three-five times just to go to the club and sweat it back to curly again. I gave up. It just wasn't worth the time and effort. Then I went online to begin a new search. I found the Sedu and did lots of homework on it (I read 1000 reviews on this site and elsewhere) all in all the Sedu seemed to get very very good reviews. Sure it didn't work for some people and for others it broke, but that happens and I understand that. Folica was awesome. I ordered on Tuesday and received the iron (and free cooling pouch thingie) by friday (with FREE shipping). I washed my hair and let it dry put on some Frizz-eze heat serum stuff and my hair straightened on the first time!!! MY RELUCTANT HAIR! It also did not snag at all, and it left my hair shiny instead of looking dry (though it still kinda had that pressed smell I won't deny that). I was so excited and confident in this straightener that I cut 6 inches off of my hair into a cute new style that I wanted so bad, but refused to get until I had a straightener that I could trust (just because it looks better on straight hair). Now my hair is still straight even when I wake up! The difference is so obvious that even my boyfriend commented on it-YES MY BOYFRIEND...A GUY. I don't even have to use the straightener everyday. I can just wake up brush my hair and go. This is definitely a good hair straightener and I would recommend it for anyone including someone of a mixed race.

I have thick, curly, unprocessed hair. I have tried almost every type of flat iron on the market to give me the straight look, they all have failed. I came across Sedu flat irons on the internet loved the before and afterv pics so decided to try it. I love this iron. It makes my hair bone straight and adds shine without pulling or burning the strands. I just have to mke sure my hair is clean and completely dry, with no added products except for some leave in conditioner and it looks as if I relaxed it.
look no further

I did extensive research, months, including speaking with my hairdresser first - start there. I can't imagine leaving the house without ironing with my Sedu. I love the dial so I can adjust the heat for my hair and my daughters. I invested in this 1 1/2 size because I included my daughter in the decision factor. I was immediatly impressed. As soon as I received it, I plugged it in and tried it out (after reading instructions). I could not believe the straight hair I always desired finally looked like I had imagined it all my 43 years. I use the moisturizing spray after I get out of the shower at night, and then straighten in the morning. I love what it does for my hair - it is amazing. Do your research and find the best price, guarentee (2 years) and purchase from Folica - or just save time and get it now! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT

My second Sedu

I purchased my first Sedu in September of 2007. In June of 2008 it stopped working. The red reset button on the plug would not stick. I called Folica and they gave me instructions on how to send it back. You have to pay a small fee, but it was worth it to me to have it replaced. Once they recieved it, they sent me an email and send me another one. It was a very smooth process and I am so glad the Sedu has a two year warranty. The new one has a different plug, so maybe it won't quit on me. Also, it has a funny smell when I plug it in, but I am hoping it will get better. I still love the iron. I bought a remington to use while I was without my Sedu and it was good, but it doesn't compare to the Sedu. Folica has great customer service!!
